World of Equestria: Age of heroes.

Even before the founding and golden age of Equestria… there have been creatures with curious abilities beyond the norm. Some creatures able to jump tall building in a single bound, others could fire powerful bursts of energy from their eyes… and that’s not counting the even stranger things other have been shown to be able to do. One hero has stood above many others of her age, that of the Sun Sentinel. A mysterious mare who has protected the world from evils from the past many times over… but legends say that when she first appeared and began her rise as the symbol of hope for Equestria and some lands beyond, that she had a partner. A mystifying mare who manipulated and was empowered by the moonlight as she was the same with the sunlight. The stories say that after years [of jealousy had built up], She turned on her sister and partner and attempted to take over the world. A long battle raged until Sunlight Sentinel emerged victorious… They’re fight on the namesake of the former Moonlit Knight (and then, Nightmare Moon) covered it in the equine profile pattern of craters until using some legendary spell, The Sentinel sealed her partner and bound her to the moon.

The scholars of myth say that this event is what caused the Sentinel to form her group of heroes and began a campaign to work with the government of Equestria to form the Sunlight academy: a school to teach the empowered individuals who desired it to learn how to use their powers well or for some, how to control them and to use them constructively. Over time, the school grew and grew until it became almost the size of a large town… in the current day it is a gigantic facility with the Lair of the Sunlight sentinel hovering high above it.

Myths became a reality however after the night of Nightmare Moon’s return. A group of six heroes in the area of Ponyville: where the mare in the moon made her return. Together six solo heroes who had been fighting over the territory of Ponyville worked together to locate the magic used to seal her and instead used it to cleanse her of whatever evil had corrupted her. Although after using these elements, they dissipated and disappeared…

That night left a mark on Equestria as all across the continent many heroes began springing up, some with no powers beyond their talents, others more so. But one thing has become clear: The age of heroes has only been emboldened by the return of the Moonlit Knight.

While the government of Equestria has put her on trial… she has been sentenced to a type of community service in which she must now teach the new age of heroes. A roll she has taken to with Gusto along with her sister, her first act being to announce an initiative to allow villains who wish to turn over a new leaf to apply to the academy.

(For those wondering what the content of this AU is supposed to be rated; think somewhere along the lines of the marvel cinematic universe, The justice league animated series, sky high ... and maybe my hero academia:P)

Notable Figures

The Sister Heroes

Because of the important nature and weight these characters have on world I'm going to have to ask those who app them to work with me on what the backstory for them will be and about some aspects of this universe's lore is most likely to affect them.

Sunlight Sentinel (Celestia):

The sun themed exemplar and top heroine of the modern age and for the last thousand years. Her place in the world is now more a symbol of hope and peace for all creatures to strive for. In the past she had worked alongside her sister as the two most influential heroes of the age. Moonlit Knight turned on her out of jealousy (and possibly more). She has not chosen anyone as her personal protege but is looking for someone she believes could fit her type of mold once she has passed, not even the sun can last forever.

The issues she faces is a mix of just how much she should use her powers to influence the world and also where to use them. In a world full of super villains it is not possible for even her to stop all of them, this is why she formed her school:To teach another generation of heroes how to use their powers wisely and for the greater good. Usually the only things that warrant her intervention are the appearances of immensely powerful villains of a world ending nature but often is able to stop crimes wherever she is while in canterlot so long as there’s no one else who can help.

Due to her not taking up the role of rule in this universe, the old method of sunraising is still done by several skilled unicorn mages in Equestria.

Her role as a mentor is stretched to the entire student body and she is often immensely protective of all of them.

Known Powers.

Solar energy manipulation and empowerment: Due to her nature and sun theme, Celestia does not control the sun itself but serves as a generator of powerful solar energy which manifests strongest during the day. Her powers allow her to use the sun’s energy to strengthen her abilities so that not only her magic but her physical capabilities allow her to hold her own in fights with the hardest hitting non magical bruises, her speed and reflexes have allowed her to keep up with (or be a bit slower) than even the fastest speedsters in Equestria and beyond. While her powers are impressive and potentially the strongest out of all heroes of the modern age, she is significantly weaker when cut from contact from the direct sunlight.

Secret identity:

N/A

Thanks to her powers and alicorn status… and incredible height, Celestia has become fully invested in her persona is rarely seen out of costume.

Moonlit Knight (Luna):

Status: Appable

The heroine turned villain turned heroine again. A contentious figure for this age, having grown in a tougher world than the one the modern ponies and creatures know, she has been hardened. While less… warm than her sister she is once more on the side of justice and eager to prove it to all who may doubt her. Unlike her sister who has had a thousand years worth of experience in crime fighting Luna has had considerably less but still enough to be a respected authority.

Known powers:

In fitting with her lunar theme, The Moonlit Knight’s abilities are based around the night and moonlight. Due to not having trained and honed them to the same lever her sister has (as well as being out of practice for a thousand years) Her ability to empower herself with the moon’s light is comparatively immensely weaker, despite this she has proven to be able to manipulate it to the point she is able to create constructs made of it to fight on her behalf, her conjuring abilities being second to none in this particular category. Unlike her sister who is always at her strongest during the day, Luna’s powers draw upon the moon’s phases and are strongest when it is full in the sky, and weakest when it has reached the new phase.

Secret identity: Optional

Luna while tall and still rather recognizable, thanks to her isolated area when she was cleansed the look of the Knight under her armor is still safe. It is entirely possible for her to go out and meet others if she so wishes.

The Mane six (group title still unchosen)

The mane six are all available to be apped and you are free to have them have whatever backstory and powers you wish so long as you don’t step on your fellow teammates toes. There are some conditions you’ll have to abide by if you wish to play them however:

If you wish to play a member of the mane six their relationship with other characters in canon continuity will likely be different, one of the biggest differences will likely be that whoever apps Twilight Sparkle will not be The Sunlight Sentinel’s ward, protege, or whatever variation on that idea is as the sentinel has lived long enough and is aware she cannot show favoritism amongst a large body of students in such a way as she is working to be a role model for all creatures.

Another condition is that seeing as the backstory and opening concept for this AU requires the mane six having actually been heroes who were originally against each other working in their territories but joined up to work together for the better of their town. It’s not likely they would have have a had a particularly close friendship (at least not in their costumed identities) However after the events of nightmare moons return and reformation, you’re free to take them in any direction you wish within reason.

Government figures

Since the two sisters didn’t take the role of raisers of the sun and moon and bringing of the day and night respectively, the current Equestrian government has several highly trained and powerful mages working to move the sun and moon  each day through the sky. The land is in a state of mixing but still divided. While Earth ponies, unicorns, and pegasi do often live amongst each other there are still worries and the occasional bout of xenophobia from old, darker thoughts , feelings, and traditions that haven’t died out as quickly yet. In this world it’s most likely a trio of elected representatives from each species of pony work to try and come to agreements over what should be done about issues their world faces… but all things are susceptible to corruption.

Technically the academy is run with the assistance of the council so many heroes have been worried about the effect it may have on the process of molding the heroes of the coming generation.

Thanks to the combined efforts of the three species of pony and the long time spent between them Magitech has mademany advances, prosthetics are advanced and some are more like superpwered in their own right if you can afford/make them. gadgeteer and inventor heroes have been very popular for a while now.

Major Locations:

Sunlight Academy (in Canterlot) : The school of heroes and the empowered. Founded a thousand years ago by the Sunlight Sentinel herself, the academy has been (along with it’s founder) a beacon of hope to many an aspiring hero or empowered citizen: With the funding from the Equestrian government and the help of many scholars from across the land, it has experts in the fields of many of the powers that have appeared in the past.

The major program for the academy is it’s hero training program for empowered who have either proven to be capable heroes or those who wish to go there and learn of their powers with the assistance of professionals first after having taken a difficult series of tests if they are just starting out. Once a hero has been approved for application of the academy they are subject to many classes that the school offers for different power categories after the empowered individuals capabilities are analyzed. Training drills are done regularly and eventually heroes will be trusted for more dangerous work if they haven’t been in dangerous situations before

The other big program there  is the empowered acclimation program. This course is for Empowered individuals who are not interested in being heroes, so much as learning to come to grips with the powers they have and finding ways to fit back into regular society. Some of this is for practice to learn control for more dangerous and powerful individual’s capabilities, but most of it is meant for those whose powers can inconvenience or hinder them in their everyday life.

(at the time of writing this , these are the only areas that have a vaguely defined lore and even Ponyville is meant to be a flexible setting. Any locations, cities or towns in Equestria are fair game for any who wish to add their own superhero spin to each site… just don’t make everyplace all dark and gloomy, everyone! ;) )

Ponyville:

A still growing, large, and well established settlement a good trip away , but still adjacent to the academy. Ponyville is a flexible setting with a few heroes still operating in , the most prominent of those there being a sextet of mares with differing powers, abilities, and personalities. All of them show potential to be great heroes… but since the events of Nightmare moon’s return, they’re competition for recognition from Equestria and beyond as great heroes is growing more and more difficult.

The biggest threats to Ponyville are regular attacks by creatures and oddities from the Everfree forest. What emerges from that place is rarely the same and always seems to have some strange abilities or method to give the local heroes a run for their bits.

Application Rules and form:

Superhero/Supervillain Name:

What does your character go by? Does she even have a secret identity if so, how secretive. Has she told her friends or family or is she constantly hiding it?

Powers: What power(s) does your character have? Remember that ponies aren’t the only species with abnormal abilities, griffins, deer, even regular horses occasionally show incredible powers. How potent are you characters power, remember to ask yourself: “is this too much?” Remember not every hero needs to be able to do everything. While there are those who have incredibly potent abilities, they often have secondary abilities to allow their bodies to handle them. Some heroes (especially the young ones) have been shown to have incredible potential based on the category their powers fall into and even some truly niche abilities can become very useful if the wielder of them knows how to use them and has some creativity. If your character has the kind of power that lets them make it on their own… that is fine but if possible make sure to rein yourself in a bit as regardless of how good a heroes draw was in the superpower lottery it can only do so much against those with experience in fighting and the knowledge of how to best use their gifts.

Alias:(If applicable) who are they? How does your character act when out of the tights (or whatever their costume of choice is). Does she really even want to hide her status as a hero, or is she open about her heroism.

Backstory: What brought your hero to where they are? What is their origin? Who were they before they chose this life? The limits to how strange you can get with the backstory is mostly your imagination tempered with the idea of balance and reason so your character isn't overpowered. If you want to make a robotic mare who was built in the labs of a secret magitech facility... than go right ahead!

Notable Allies: (Unless someone has already applied for a character, leave blank until others app, and then see about adding people)

Notable Personal Villains:

If your hero is just starting out then feel free to leave this area blank, but if they have some measure of experience it’s possible they’ve gotten to meet a costumed villain or rival who has been a thorn in their side or a repeating villain for them for a time. Usually these are types with powers opposing your oc but feel free to get creative!

General Notability:

How do other types of heroes often look upon yours. How do they affect those that see their antics? Do they have a small fanclub? Or do they have a legion of admirers who cheer them on wherever they are? Basically, your heroes reputation and who has heard and how far their exploits have traveled. Would a hero based in Cloudsdale be heard about in Trottingham… maybe! Take into account how long your character has been working and the level of villain they fight generally and how they handle themselves when civilians are watching.

Superhero/Supervillain Name: The Shifter.

Powers: Lilly can change her form and become anything she has either studied extensively or touched. She becomes whatever she wants and can remain so for that time. Can instantly change back, and can turn into otherwise inanimate objects as well. In the forms she turns into, Shifter has imperfect memory recall and personality masking; sometimes she can perfectly mimic someone's personality and has all their memories, other times, not so much. Can mimic to a minor degree the powers of those she shifts into, though never at a high level.

Alias: None.

Backstory: Valen Orange was a city colt given to helping ponies in need through acts of kindness and time spent working for the benefit of the poor, much to the chagrin of nopony. This charitable nature would catch the eye of a group of low-lives, who decided to kidnap the young colt. Before he could be found or his parents could pay the ransom, a third party involved itself and purchased the young colt. Valen was taken by a group of rogue scientists seeking to create Empowered through the magic of science. For weeks he was experimented on until they found a breakthrough on others using a highly unstable aetheral-deconstruction mechanism. Using it on Valen however, they accidentally tore the young colt down on a molecular and magical level, removing him physically from existence. What they didn't know is that he existed in the aether, and over several weeks regained his senses and found that by studying one of the scientists, he was able to finally take his form. Utilizing his knowledge and form he led a breakout. It was successful, but the scientists managed to harm a few others with the deconstruction mechanism. He was saved by a street filly named Gilded, and as he made his escape he took her form as a form of remembrance as the real Gilded Lilly was destroyed by the mechanism. He was unable to turn back into his normal self, and quickly sought the aid of the Academy.

Notable Allies: (Unless someone has already applied for a character, leave blank until others app, and then see about adding people)

Notable Personal Villains: The Institute, a group of mad scientists dedicated to the Greater Good through Science and Empowerment...no matter the cost.

General Notability: Shifter currently has no notability.

Superhero/Supervillain Name: Applejack, The Equestrian

Powers: Applejack has super-Equestrian strength, speed, and endurance. Her brain processes information with phenomenal speed and she has reflexes to match. She was trained by her father and mother in hoof to hoof combat as well as in the use of her enchanted weapons. Her costume is made up of specially constructed and enchanted particles formed together from the aether as well as the rare elements her father discovered that gave it enormous protective qualities while remaining lightweight and breezy. She uses an enchanted lasso that can use any of the basic elemental powers to inflict damage, but compel the one lasso'd to speak the truth, and is unbreakable. She can also use a small buckler her father made that can absorb massive energy blasts, and her hat is made up of the same material as her costume, enabling it to be used as a deadly thrown weapon. Everything was going well until Applejack learned her parents had been killed. They were following the trail of kidnapped Ponyville ponies when they ran into a trap sprung by the Mad Mercenary herself, Sachadara. They managed to save the kidnappes ponies, but at the cost of their own lives. Applejack returned home and ws overcom with grief and anger, blaming the Academy for her absence, convinced she could have saved her parents had she not been sent away. In moruning she traveled the farm, discovering her father's hidden workshop and investigating it. There she found a message from him to be heard only if passed away. Listening to it, she came to terms with their passing and resolved herself to take the place of her parents as the defender of Ponyville, and all of Equestria if needs be.

Notable Allies: Flash Mob, Apples (once app'd)

Notable Enemies: Sachadara, the Mad Mercenary responsible for the deaths of more than a few heroes and the corruption of a multitude more. Quite an interesting take on Applejack. I'll be looking forward to seeing her in action along side the hopefully soon be app'd other members of this universe's mane six.

Superhero Name: Lightbringer

Powers: She uses light-based powers that could be mistaken for holy magic. She mostly uses it to boost her attack or defense, but she has also discovered limited healing and ranged abilities as well. On top of it she wields a large hammer and wears plate armor.

Alias: Dolor. She is very casual about the secret, the hero name more of a title to her than anything.

Backstory: Dolor's life was a simple one while she was growing up, the warriors of her tribe keeping things relatively safe. She became a warrior herself, and discovered her powers during the training. Using these powers, she helped to bring even more peace to her tribe, earning her various honors including the title she carries with her. Unfortunately, it wouldn't last, as a rival tribe sent their own powered warrior in under cover of darkness who managed to injure many of her tribe including her parents before being driven off. Swearing vengeance, the Minotaur set out in search of the shadowy bull that had harmed her family.

Notable Allies:

Notable Enemies: Deathdealer, the bull she had sworn to bring to justice.

General Notability: Largely unknown due to her past and the fact she moves around so much in search of her foe.

So everyone knows, it's for Pinkie Pie. I am more than happy to compete for the honor of the fair mare, but hey, if you cook up something sweeter than me, she's all yours.

I'll be looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Here's a question. Did the Rainboom as we know it happen?

A good question, I've given it some thought. whoever apps dash can say whether or not they wanted that event to occur in a way similar to her powers awakening or if it can be a special move she does. However if you want it to have affected the other mane six or any other ponies in a way like the mainstream continuity should be run by those you wish it to have affected first, be it mane six or not.

I'm open to feedback on this notion so if those who are interested would like it to be similar to the continuity have a good way to implement it, I'm amenable to that.

I would say the Rainboom could have been when RD realized her powers/potential. Whether anypony else wants to use that as how they got their cutie mark, however, is up to individuals.

Superhero/Supervillain Name: White Windigo (Snowfall). Her identity is a firmly kept secret, known only to a few close confidants. Not even her own mother knows.

Powers: She has no actual powers on her own but rather makes extensive use of an assortment of advanced technologies developed by her company, Northern Storm Industries. Chief among these is a magically powered machine inbuilt into her suit which exudes a thick white mist and absorbs all the heat in her surrounding area, quickly creating subzero temperatures. Her distinctive all white suit which covers her from head to tow is resistant to both heat and cold and even protects her from standard attacks. The boots on her forehooves have a temperature reducing device in them as well which can instantly freeze things she touches in solid ice. She also has knowledge of combat and survival acquired from her time spent in the Whitescar wilds.

Alias: When not acting at the White Windigo, Snowfall acts instead as the approachable yet dedicated CEO of Northern Storm Industries, a technology firm started by her father, Northern Storm. She is a celebrity within Stalliongrad, and known in several cities across Equestria.

Backstory: Snowfall is the only daughter born to celebrated self-made Stalliongrad businesspony Northern Storm and his wife Crystal Snowflake. From an early age she was pruned to succeed her father as head of the company, a fate she was not entirely accepting of due to her free spirit. When her father suddenly disappeared in her youth, the pressure increased for her still. Rather than face the expectations that she was suddenly being prematurely saddled with, she made the decision to fly off in pursuit of her father, following the trail deep into the northern snowlands. In time she lost said trail and the snow closed in on her and she was sure she was to meet her end buried there in the snow. That was when a spectral image, like that of the windigos who populated the Hearth's Warming stories appeared before her accompanied by a long sound. Captivated by what she saw, she found new strength and rushed ahead in the direction of the spectral shape, only for it to dissipate in an instant. Moments later, she was unconscious. When she awoke, it was in the fortress dungeon of a vile wizard in the Southern Wilds of Whitescar. Twisted and evil, the wizard and his followers had been kidnapping whole wandering parties across the north for some time. There in the dungeons, Snowfall was reunited with her father, though he was weak from years spent as a prisoner. As the days passed, he grew weaker still until, on his deathbed, he told Snowfall of the deep pride he had for what he had built in Stalliongrad and how much the city meant to him and made her promise she would do everything to protect it. Her father had always been cold to her in her youth, saddling her with so much expectation that she had always resented him to some extent, but as he went on, telling her not just of his beloved city, but of how proud he was of her, she was overcome with emotion and inspiration. Shortly after he passed, she steeled herself to escape from her situation and return to Stalliongrad so she could make good by her father's wishes. She found her opportunity in manipulating some of the more hapless henchponies of the wizard and made her escape from the fortress. Escaping the wilds would be more difficult still, however. Attempts to fly through the constant blizzard conditions were impossible and there were dangerously beasts intent to eat her beyond every drift. Frustration set in at how despite her ordeal and her escape, nothing had changed. That was until a party of caribou warriors came to her rescue against a ferocious wyrm. As she watched them fight and slay the creature, she was awed by their strength in combat. She asked that they take her under their wing and teach her to fight and become someone stronger. Amused by the idea, the caribou agreed. At first she was a game to them, but in time, she learned how to fight with a warrior's spirit. After three years spent with the caribou, however, Snowfall knew it was time to return home and do what she had to for the city she had sworn to protect. Once there, she was at first unsure what to do aside from reclaiming her title as head of her company. Then it occurred to her that, despite not having any special powers naturally she could still act as a hero like those who did if she made use of her company's technology. So was born the White Windigo, using the motif of the feared creature of legend, Snowfall began to improve her city on two levels as a beacon of progress for her company and as a hero rooting out criminal sorts in the street. Years later, few are more feared by the unlawful in her city than she.

Notable Allies:

Notable Enemies: The Dark Wizard Cyprianus, a number of criminals, costumed and otherwise in Stalliongrad, including criminal mastermind Slick Noir.

General Notability: In Stalliongrad, she is quite esteemed and feared, having been established as a hero for quite some time. Elsewhere in Equestria, she would be more obscure. In general, Snowfall is more well known in her civilian identity than her superhero one.

I would say the Rainboom could have been when RD realized her powers/potential. Whether anypony else wants to use that as how they got their cutie mark, however, is up to individuals.

I'd say this is the best route to go.

I wrote too much again.

Superhero name: Flash Mob

Powers and abilities:

Spoiler

A very mild form of precognition, acting mostly as a warning signal, as well as omnipresent detection of her surroundings. And unlike her other senses, it is not effected by gases or toxins or other forms of obscurity, unless specificity crafted to attack this Sense itself. However, it's up to Flash Mob to recognize and react to its warnings, and it can be tricked if she doesn't believe herself to be in danger or if an enemy is just plain faster than her.

Flash Mob's claim to fame is her ability to instantaneously create identical physical living copies of herself; identical to the point where the duplicates themselves can also make copies. The duplicates are alive, each thinking and feeling and acting of their own free will. But they are all, more or less, guided by and connected to the original via magical link; for better or worse. If one is damaged, the prime can suffer from a terrible psychic backlash, especially if the injury is critical. Damage one too severely and it will simply vanish in a puff of pink smoke which smells strangely like vanilla. And should the original Flash Mob fall unconscious, every clone will poof, period. It is also impossible to distinguish one duplicate from another. While the threat of a hundred-pony army is a real one, this power is taxing on her metabolism and she can (and has) passed out from a sudden and drastic drop in blood sugar. She is almost always ravenously hungry due to this and is rarely seen without a dessert stuffed in her cheeks.

She can also recall her clones as easily as as she creates them. She absorbs any memories or experiences the duplicate may have had while active. Due to this, Flash Mob is in possession of an absurd range of knowledge from potentially every field imaginable. More or less. Practical aptitude is fuzzy and often wires get crossed. She can sometimes be found trying to knit herself a screenplay or personalizing a cake in a foreign language. Physically traits are passed on in a similar fashion. For instance, a single duplicate performing intense weight training for a week will pass on these gains to the prime once she's absorbed.

She dabbles in multiple forms of martial arts, obviously, but eventually settled upon a self made style which utilizes her bizarre range of powers and peak physical condition to their fullest. She is able to bend and flip and bob and weave her way around danger thanks to her unique sense, and can set herself up for devastating combo attacks with only a quartet of duplicates and an astounding level of teamwork.

Notable Aliases and general notability:

Spoiler

Pinkamena Diane Pie, Pinkie Pie. While she insists that her disguise is a perfect one and that her identity is the 'tippy-toppiest of secrets', there is only one pony in Equestria who is just so... well... so Pinkie Pie. Her bubbly enthusiasm cannot be hidden, nor her desire to help others, mask or no mask. And she is, very literally, everywhere. That being said, most civilians love their heroine and play along with the masquerade for her sake.

Background:

Spoiler

Pinkamena's story begins humbly, born the youngest daughter of a pair of rock farmers, out in the middle of nowhere in the San Palomino desert. While her family was certainly a loving one, they were a stiff and conservative one, yielding very little to their baby girl's exuberance and curiosity, demanding she spend her days working the fields. There was no talking. There was no smiling. There were only rocks. That is, except for Granny Pie. These two were inseparable, little Pinkie gobbling down every last story and song (and secretly made sweet treat) the bubbly old mare would offer. It was from Granny that she even earned her Cutie Mark, discovering deep in herself the want to make others feel the same joys that she felt.

The high did not last long. While a single party may have brought smiles to her Dam and Sire and three older sisters, it's very hard to break long standing traditions. And by next morning, it was back to working the south field, preparing to move the rocks to the east field. With absolutely zero talk of the previous day's festivities. It was like the party never happened. Heartbroken, the teary eyed filly ran from the farm, to be anywhere but there. Unfortunately, where she ran was straight into the Everfree forest.

Pinkie was a brave little pony, though. As the first thing she learned from Granny was to face your fears. Just laugh and they just disappear. Even still, the Everfree is a dangerous place, where even the mightiest of heroes can meet an untimely fate. She was on the run, lost and terrified, laughing and crying at the same time. In a desperate attempt to find safety, she ducked into a dense thicket of bramble. But in her haste, she lost her balance on one of the countless vines and fell down a pit the greens concealed. It felt like she was falling forever, being battered against jagged and crusty earth before coming to the final stop.

There was a splash. The tired, weak and broken filly sank like a stone in the middle of the pond she had unwittingly discovered. And this would have been the end of her story, had Granny not been right behind her. The Sense, in some way or another, runs in the family, and she knew where her granddaughter would be, trying to make it there as fast as her old hooves could move her. But she was too late to catch her before she hit the water. And too weak to dive in after her. If only she had help.

And into her own reflection she stared

Yearning for one whose reflection she shared

And solemnly sweared not to be scared

At the prospect of being doubley mared

She stood at the end of the legendary mirror pool, reciting the incantation over and over again, waiting and praying she wasn't too late.

Success! She felt another hoof grab hers! With the last bits of her strength, Granny pulled! And out came the chain of ponies with a itty bitty Pinkie at the end. She was alive! Nearly drowned but alive! And in tearful gratitude for seeing a friendly face. And not at all shocked to see the seven other fillies who looked exactly like her.

She had, Granny guessed, drank down a little too much of the Mirror Pool's magic while she was down there, with the many recitations of its spell not helping much either. Oh well, she thought. More of her precious granddaughter to love. Pinkie's Dam and Sire and sisters agreed, especially during the welcome home party they threw in her honor. A going away party came not long after, with Pinkie being shipped off to Canterlot. You see, Sunlight Sentinel had come to hear of her special gift, and thought the Sunlight Academy to be just the place for the young mind to learn and wrangle it in. The family agreed, so proud of their girl to receive such an honor.

But it was Granny that cried the most that night. And it took the two of them heading back into the Everfree Forest, to the cave of the Mirror Pool, for Pinkie to find out why.

Granny was oddly silent on the matter for a while, busying herself with inspecting one extra rocky piece of wall after another. She would take a few steps and tap her hoof against it in a very familiar rhythm; shave and a haircut. She waited. Nothing would happen. Then she would walk a few paces and try again. Meanwhile, six Pinkies were sitting in a huddle together, watching her, scared and confused.

On attempt number seven, something knocked back. Well, not so much knock as boom. Two super loud thuds that shook the identical fillies to their core, causing the very walls of the cave to move. The girls were all clinging to each other in fear, faces buried in fluffy manes; the lot of them beginning to resemble a giant magenta ball of yarn.

Granny promised that the coast was clear, gently shaking her little darlings apart. Because here was the surprise!

And what a surprise it was! Behind a secret door was a glimpse back through time! Plaques, newspaper clippings, medals, trophies! And at the center of it all was a huge pin-up poster of a young and curvy mare in a tuxedo and top hat...

“Oh my gosh”, one of the Pinkies finally said. “My Granny Pie is Abrakadazzle! My Granny Pie was a superhero!”

Notable Allies:

Spoiler

"Oh oh oh! I had this team-up not too long ago with a buncha famous heroes! I mean heroines!  Can you believe it? I got to meet the Equestrian! THE Equestrian! She was super nice and even let me have her autograph, see! There was a crazy fast Pegasus too, with some wicked cool rainbow laser powers! She was all 'PEW PEW PEW PEW WOOOSH!' And... Uhm... there were three other girls with us too! Also super nice! Now what were their names again? Let's see...  Hrm.... A real noodle scratcher, this one... Oh! Noodle Scratcher sounds like a great superhero name! Do you think I should change my name to Noodle Scratcher? Or do I need to have pasta powers and swing from ropes made of spaghetti first?"

Notable Enemies:

Spoiler

Eh. I'll get back to you on that one. I'm very tired.

Rebalancing her powers a bit, so she functions a little more like Naruto Uzumaki and a little less like Jamie Madrox. Also, some slight modifications to story, as per request.

Superhero Name: Lady Adventure

Powers: None. None at all, though her absurd luck borders on the supernatural. Adventure uses a revolving door of gadgets both magical and technological in origin which she has found on her journeys, seemingly having the right tool for the right job most of the time. Of course she can't be prepared for everything, but has marvelous- exceptional- levels of improvisation and an uncanny ability to think on the fly. Her fragile grip on the dangerous nature of actions comes across as outrageous bravery and affords her a degree of mental protection. Hard to control a mind already so heavily deluded. Her knowledge of traps and ancient civilizations is rarely equaled, and her constant physical activity puts her at near peak athleticism for a pegasus.

Background: Pathfinder was the only daughter of a traveling pair of trick flying pegasi who went missing in the Badlands, sending her to the orphanage in Cloudsdale. There she felt lost and confused, having lost the one dependable thing in her life, until she found out the greatness and glory of Daring Do. These series of novels filled the gap where there were holes and acted as an adhesive that kept her together whee other fillies broke down. Of course what seemed like a wonderful salve would prove to be a life-defining passion, and perhaps madness, as she became obsessed with the adventurer heroine. After saving a colt and earning her cutie mark, she traveled the globe looking for adventure. These adventures put her up against some fierce and dangerous villains looking for powerful relics, and her ability to defeat them through sheer guts soon earned her the name "Lady Adventure".

Alias: Pathfinder, Daring Do Fanclub President!

Notable Allies: The White Windigo, with whom she is in a steamy relationship!

Notable Villains: The Many Aged One, Mares of Maredrid, the Dread Spirit, and the Soul Slug of Okeanos.

General Notability: She is not well known in the general populace, though her exploits are quickly earning her a name in communities concerns with ruins, relics, and adventuring.

I'm working on an Application for the Sunlight Sentinel as we type, everyone! While I'm working on it I'd like to request some of you think of heroes or characters who'd join or be involved in the academy! I know the appeal of wanting to app a character who can do so much and has an established history, but don't forget that part of the fun of an AU (at least in my eyes) is seeing how differently things can go for a character in it! Anyway, remember that the sunlight academy is supposed to have a student body and help train heroes how to be better in many scenarios!

If you like, I can edit out that little bit about Pinkie's graduation. She could very easily still be enrolled.

Honestly I think that would be pretty neat. If you'd rather not I don't want you to feel as if I'm trying to pressure you into retconning your Character. :)

Nah, the main six are supposed to be the teachers at the academy.

I'd kinda prefer it were otherwise but I'm open to changes if you think it could be made better and more fun for the sake of the rp. If the one who is apping an individual Mane six member feels they should be an instructor at the academy they may but there's no need to assume all will beinstructors unless you coordinate with your fellow six players. :)

Oh.  Sorry, I thought that the main six were the six heroes that stopped Nightmare Moon, and thus more experienced!  And on that note - I am putting together an app for Dash.

THey were indeed those heroes! but I didn't specify exactly HOW they did it besides saying they uses the elements (of heroism) to do it. Even though they can be experienced heroes I'ld like it they still had some growing and learning to do :)

Oh this looks like fun. Lemme!

Superhero Name: Silverbolt

Powers: Silver is a flying brick with few additions, and one of few heroes that can keep up with Sunlight Sentinel. Strong enough to (with little effort) use skyscrapers as baseball bats, and taking hits from adult dragons like it was nothing. In flight he's fast enough to achieve escape velocity without any trouble, and Silvers reflexes are a match for his speed. His name codename comes from ability to generate lightning, usually from his hooves. It also tends to course along his body when he is in physical combat, although that is most of the time involuntary. The most effective display of this power however. is his trademark 'Lightning Gaze', and ability to emit electricity from his eyes of such intensity, that it appears to be a laser beam (and it generates a heat like one), but using it tires him considerably. Silver can also change color of his mane and coat at will (but not that of his eyes or Cutie Mark). Additionally his senses are about twenty times sharper then a normal pony, but thankfully only when he specifically focuses on them.

Weaknesses: A special crystal from outer space know as Snyd Crystal. When in close proximity of Silverbolt they cause him extreme pain and can eventually kill him. Few characters learned how to synthesize it, but the process is very costly. Dreasion Mist, a gas driven from the Crystal (along may other substances) is also painful but not lethal. It however greatly reduces his powers when Silver's exposed to it. A common rubber provides good protection again Bolt lightning powers....at least until he generates enough to start melting it with pure heat. Silverbolt is also very valuable to Dark Sorcery, more-so then any other type of magic.

Despite his incredible physical resistance Silverbolt CAN be harmed with repeated use of extreme force. For example during first first fight with Judgment Day, after twelve hours slugfest Silverbolt managed to wound the villain, but would have died if not for Sunlight Sentinel tagging in and taking the monstrosity off his shoulders.

Alias: Cocoa Bean, a writer from Fillydelphia. Although that was a while ago.

Backstory: Found as a foal in cradle stranded on the reed bed, Coca was adopted by a couple of childless ponies from Mustangia. His adoptive parents - longing for a child of their own despite being unable to conceive one - poured all their love on little Silver and installed within him the virtues of justice, selflessness and kindness. His powers displayed themselves the moment he started to walk, but unlike most heroes he never did attended Sunlight Academy nor he was part empowered acclimation program. His parents didn't wanted Cocoa to be involved with such dangerous thing like super-heroics. As a result he learned to control his power on his own, hidden by the remoteness of his farm in the Strand.

However the same values that made him such a good colt also made him restless. Cocoa knew that he was different then other ponies and that he can make a difference. When he announced his plan to attend collage in Fillydelphia his parents knew immediately that he will put on the costume eventually.

That was exactly what happened. Bean begun studying at Faculty of Literature at University of Fillydelphia and at the same time - inspired by Sunlight Sentinel - create an identity of Silverbolt. As time passed he became one of most famous and successful superheroes of his age, partaking in many adventures and saving the world more then once. Even through he was asked many times, he never became teacher at Sunlight academy.

However one time a crisis stumbled upon the Equestria. A giant asteroid, named 'The Tear' for it's shape headed upon the planet, and it's impact would without the doubt mean end of the world. All known superheroes teamed up to deal with a problem and it soon discovered that upcoming impact was not a natural phenomenon. One of the world most dangerous supervillains - Contra Fall - initiated it, to wipe out all his enemies, and then reshape the planet to his imagine. While much of the team deal with the psychopath, others were sent to stop giant space rock - Coca Bean among them. His powers reacted with those of superhero Temporal, opening the rift between dimensions. Silverbolt and his colleagues managed to drag the astroid into it....but they themselves pulled inside too. Considered KIA, his colleagues and friends mourned Silverbolt and others sacrifice. In Filldelphia a memorial was erected in honor of it's protector, one that stands in the city to this day. One hundred and twelve years has passed, and those few supers who are still alive that remember this day and phenomenon that occurred during it, the 'Tear Shock'.

Personality: Bean always had an ability to empathize with others, but what makes it special, is his honest to earth conviction that he isn't above or below anyone. Unless one does something undoubtedly evil one can always count for his helping hoofs or ear. Even in face of supervillany Silver always sees the best in others, and firmly believes all has capacity to do good. Some attributed this to naivety and they may have a good point. Silverbolt however stays rigid in his beliefs, stating that even if he could only turn one life around, it would be still worth it.

He has tendency to dislike those who withdraw themselves from taking action. This led to to many frictions with Sunlight Sentinel, with Silverbolt thinking that she tends to think too much abut past (her sister) and future (academy), but not the present. He also criticized her for being too invested with one aspect of heroics, and being detached from those she supposed to protect. Despite his advice she never created civilian identity for herself.

Silverbolt generally prefers to talk the way out of the problem, but when it's not an option he does not hesitate to take action. Even then however he has tendency of holding back tremendously. This left him with a record of many fights dragging out way longer then they should, all because he feared to hurt somepony.

When not in costume (and often with it) Cocoa tends to be a huge dork. As a farmer turned writer (with a degree!), Bean is amazed with science that gives him inspiration for his works, and even small things can get him to squee in excitement. Overall he's quite a sweet guy. Silver also used to collect fantasy books of other authors, but it's doubtful that he's collection survived to present day.

Notable Allies:  Every superhero that is still active since last century worked with him at one time or other. The same can't be said however about the current generation of Capes.

Notable Enemies:  Most of them died or retired  due to old age by now. The three are however still around, causing trouble.

Ms. Epoch - the ageless mare from Maretonia with astounding telekinesis and telepathic powers. Has tendency to collect powerful artifacts. Seeks to establish her own nation, no matter the costs.

Lash-tam - quilin dark sorcerer and necromancer who eventually ascended to lichdom. He seeks others of his craft to suck out their souls and increase his own magic. He often teams up with others super-villains,who relay on different sources of power, to that end.

Judgment Day - pony shaped monstrosity from space. Almost unstoppable, it always takes effort of few superhero teams to stop him whenever he shows up. Despite brutish appearance he's extremely intelligent and a master schemer. He however is also a nihilist, aiming to 'reduce everything to zero'. Has' grudge against Equestrian superheroes after being foiled so many times.

General Notability: Hundred years ago you had to live under a rock to not know who he was. Nowadays while still remembered, he's know as inspirational historical figure and an symbol. There are only few remaining heroes and villains who knew him as a pony still kicking around.

Public Identity: Detective Stalwart, Manehattan PD

Powers: Technically, Stalwart has no special powers.  Though uncommonly skilled in hoof-to-hoof combat, that doesn't necessarily stand out in an earth pony police officer.  What would stand out is an expertise with explosives of all kinds, both creating and using, whether planted or thrown, and almost regardless of the payload.  Neither would one expect the ability to change race and appearance, inherent in someone who's actually a changeling using an earth pony disguise.  Naturally, Stalwart goes to great lengths to keep the latter two traits hidden.  Since the incident a few years ago, he has started using some light illusion magic to conceal a little extra gear he carries around with him on a daily basis, but also to provide a reasonable cover story should someone catch a whiff that he is actually a disguise for another.

As a rule, Stalwart comes across as knowing his limits and is content to gather and pass along information for proper heroes to act on, though as often as not this is him holding back to avoid revealing his secrets.

Alternate Identities:  Deep Strike, personal name Naj, minor villain and an agent of a distant enemy dedicated to the destabilization of Equestria.

Backstory: Deep Strike was bred for and trained in disguise, combat and explosives by a distant villain.  She was then sent to Equestria to wreak havoc and sow chaos, weakening the nation in preparation for a later attack.  Deep Strike followed orders for a time, but eventually stopped obeying them in favour of her own approach.  Distancing herself from the chain of command, she operated for a time as an independent troublemaker and a vandal for hire.  Her bombings proved enough to attract the attention of a number of heroes at different times throughout her career, however she never grew to become a prominent antagonist for any of them.

Deep Strike's campaign of chaos lasted some time, and caused a fair amount of destruction.  However there were a few rules she followed, in the interest of preparing Equestria for conquest.  She always issued a threat prior to bombing a building, preferring the chaos of the escape to any actual loss of life, and always returning any whose identity she took to their place once the operation was done.  It was simple enough to engineer an accident to explain the loss of memory, and the practice could help mask Deep Strike's methods, among other things.

Then, as a part of a particular plot in which she needed to maneuver around a few heroes, Deep Strike incapacitated, stored and replaced the real Detective Stalwart.  The plot went as many do, proceeding well until a critical point at which point it was uncovered.  Deep Strike had expected this, and even prepared a trap to cover her escape, but what she hadn't accounted for was one of the heroes being able to tail her despite the preparation.  Thinking herself safe, she returned to her safehouse, in which she'd stashed the real Detective Stalwart as well as various supplies.  When the ensuing battle destroyed the building, Deep Strike managed to get clear but the detective was still inside.

For the first time in her life, Naj was overcome with guilt.  Experiencing life through Detective Stalwart's eyes was already straining her resolve, and now she'd not only broken one of her own rules, but she knew that if she tried to continue as she normally did, Stalwart's family would never see him again, forever wondering where he went or what happened to him.  Naj couldn't bear that thought, so she changed.  She resolved to take on Stalwart's identity more completely, taking up his duties as a detective and as a father.

Notable Allies: [Data Unavailable]

Notable Adversaries: [Hero's name redacted], who was the tailed Deep Strike back to her hideout the night of her change of heart: the Chairpony, leader of Manehattan's most prolific criminal organization, who sent goons to Stalwart's house when the detective.  The attack was repelled and the family kept safe, but Deep Strike was forced to reveal herself temporarily to accomplish this, and the family dynamic since then has been strained, if surprisingly stable.

General Notability: Detective Stalwart was always respected for his dedication and resolve within his precinct, however since the incident a few years ago there's been a slight change to his station and approach, though not his morality.  While perhaps not quite a match for any hero, Stalwart has proven himself able to keep pace with them better than any other, and even to stand up to them on those few occasions when it is reasonable to do so.  As such, he's often found himself called upon as a liason between heroes and more the more mundane defenders of Equestria, a role which occasionally even takes him far away from his home precinct.

Deep Strike is presumed to have died when the building collapsed a few years ago, and is presumably now forgotten by Equestria and its heroes overall.

A couple notes about this one:

I wanted to create a more supporting, 'Commissioner Gordon' type character, while keeping the options open for some heroics somewhere down the line.

Also, the 'Data Unavailable' and 'Hero's Name Redacted' are placeholders.  I'm up for listing anyone who has or likely will work with Detective Stalwart regularly to being listed as an ally, and I'm leaving it open for someone to lay claim to being Deep Strike's old nemesis who eventually defeated the changeling (as long as they run it by me first).
