Name: Clovis

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Age: Varies from 20 to 30.

Personality: Cocky, smart-alec, blunt, rude, sometimes goofy and a bit deviant.

Merits/flaws: A skilled thief, enjoys stealing from those who he believes deserves it. However, deep down he knows that it is wrong, but since it is the only thing he seems to be good at, he believes there is no other occupation he would fit in. He is quite skilled with dual-wield steel daggers, and a fair marksman. When he walks, he usually makes virtually no sound at all, making stealth his profession.

History: Clovis grew up in a poor, tiny foster home with five other foster brothers and sisters (Three boys, two girls). The father was an alcoholic and a bit aggressive at times, and the foster mother was the only one who had a job, working quite a bit of overtime in order to earn extra money, so she was usually not home. Whenever she was, she was usually too exhausted to do anything other than sleep. Since the father was mostly to lazy to cook, the six foster children were left to provide for themselves. However, food was horribly scarce, and it lead to many days of being unable to eat anything. One day, Clovis decided to do something about that. With a pounding heart full of determination, he strolled into a nearby store and grabbed a few candy bars, before stuffing them beneath his shirt and quickly walking out, being careful to avoid detection. Luckily, the store was fairly busy that day, and the thirteen-year-old managed to slip away undetected in the midst of a bustling crowd with his prize. He brought the few candy bars back to his siblings, who indeed questioned where he got them. The only story Clovis could come up with was that he received them from a generous friend at school. Believing the story, they gladly accepted. For months after that, the teen would come home with a small assortment of candy, canned foods, or snacks, sharing them all with the five brothers and sisters. It wasn’t until a bit later that Clovis began to realize that he received quite a thrill from stealing… and began to take it up a notch.

One day, he got his hands on a knife and a few paperclips, which he used to pick the locks on doors during the night hours, breaking into people’s homes and stealing what valuables he could. He was successful for a short period of time, before the members of his foster family began to question where the random jewelry and accessories hidden underneath the boy’s bed were coming from, while the neighbors were making a fuss about things going . Regretfully, he confessed to having stole all of those items and planned to sell them for money, and while his intentions seemed noble at first, it turned into something much more selfish. Since then, he was a complete outcast to the entire neighborhood as word spread quickly of his actions. Whenever something at all went missing, Clovis was the first person they would all blame, despite whether or not he was guilty. For months, he strived to change and become a new person… to throw away his old habits. However, as much as he tried to convince everyone that he was trying to change, he was still falling victim to relentless accusations. No one in the neighborhood would pass by him on the sidewalk, and often cast him cold glares. Finally, while walking alone through a forest near his neighborhood, something seemed to just… snap. He didn’t yell, scream, curse, or claw at the dirt. No… the only thing that happened was the realization that came to his mind: If they’re only going to see me as a thief, then what’s the point in trying to be anything else? As this realization struck, it felt as if all emotion just left him, leaving… nothing.

Immediately, he went back to his old ways… however, he began targeting items of even greater value; priceless coin collections from the old man that lived across the street, weapons used by generals hundreds of years ago from a great granddaughter, and even going so far as learning how to crack safes to steal the treasures hidden inside. He was relentless, leaving no house untouched and disregarding any personal attachment anyone would have to these things. Whenever the accusations were shot his way, he now simply shrugged them off. They had no proof that it was him… and he had quite a few more hiding places to store his belongings rather than just under his bed.

One night, he broke into a rich couple’s home while they slept… a couple that seemed to enjoy flaunting their money about. He broke into their safe and stole nearly a thousand dollars, along with a diamond-encrusted broach that had been in their family for generations, and a ship token that was well over a hundred years old, and obviously worth a pretty penny. However, as he grabbed as many items as he could, he startled the man of the house… who had strolled into the kitchen for a midnight snack. Clovis grabbed the bag he kept everything in, and bolted out of the house as fast as he could. It didn’t take long for the man to to give chase, blindly shooting a double-barreled shotgun. The thirteen-year-old ran into the forest for cover, but the man was still hot on his heels. As he was hiding behind a massive oak tree, a darkly cloaked figure appeared to him. A turquoise-colored unicorn with violet eyes. She offered him a choice: come with her, and put his newly-found skills to the test, or stay and face the consequences of his mistakes. Still fearing for his life, the teen agreed to go with her. In one swift motion, the unicorn pulled him close to her and wrapped the cloak around him. Once he was uncovered, he was in a world unlike anything he had ever seen, or knew existed. For the next seven to fifteen years, the unicorn taught him every secret there was about being a true thief; using stealth and darkness to one’s advantage, the proper way to pick locks, and even pickpocketing an unsuspecting passer-by. She even went so far as to teach him to defend himself, in case the situation should arise. Throughout his time in Equestria, he and the unicorn (who was also the leader of an underground thieve’s organization) have marked hundreds of houses and businesses, not even leaving a trace of evidence behind… aside from the letter “c” being carved into different places throughout the foundations.

Other notes: Even though Clovis seems to be relentless and uncaring, he does have a soft spot for lower-class citizens, and often donates much of his earnings to homeless shelters or orphanages. Another thing is that he enjoys taking long walks through rose gardens to clear his mind. If one were to accompany him one one of these walks, they would notice that he is a lot more calm, and sometimes even a bit more emotional. And the one food he enjoys more than most is apple pie. This is the result of how he spent much of his time as a child. He lived close to an elderly woman who would allow him to take strolls through her lovely garden, and every once in awhile bake an apple pie to share with him.

There it is! I plan on making a few adjustments, but so far I'm happy with what I came up with. I'm excited to use this new character. ^_^
