For a Unicorn, Sombra is fit. His mane and coat are kept trimmed, and recently he's cut his mane shorter than usual because he is tired of having it get in his eyes. In addition, Sombra can constantly be seen in a steel armor, with a red cape. Furthermore, the armor has real fur trim on the inside of the cape. A ruby is inside of a black spiked crown that is worn by Sombra most of the time. Of course he does have one other outfit, a business suit.

Unique Traits:

 

As one of the oldest ponies alive, Sombra is an expert on both crystal magic and crystals, as well as the Crystal Heart. In addition he is capable and willing to use dark magic to further is agenda, and empower him. Sombra also has a longevity that is the result of the Dark Magic into which he taps. 

 

 

History:

 

Centuries ago when Celestia and Luna came to the Crystal Empire,  Sombra battled Celestia and Luna mostly on his own. Using traps that he had set up he managed to keep their armies at bay while he fought the Princesses. They were able to defeat him, but it was not without a price to them. For Sombra managed to cast a curse, and while defeated he took his Empire with him, losing but winning at the same time. It wasn't until centuries later that he was able to regenerate, and start to gather power. When Princess Cadance and Shining Armor came to the Crystal Empire to do their job, Sombra was in the end blasted out of the Crystal Empire by the Crystal Heart. Unfortunately as the spell that he had used to trap the ponies was a one off, Sombra was soundly defeated. In fact, he was defeated so badly that he nearly died out in the cold of the Frozen North. Buried under tons of ice he was unlikely to survive until he discovered a Wendigo, and drained it's life energy and magic to refuel his own so he could survive. 

 

This was done repeatedly over the course of time between Twilight's defeat of him, and her fight with Tirek several times. Feeding off of the magic, even though he didn't want to, Sombra forced himself to survive, as he wasn't done yet. Determined he was not out of the villainous game yet, Sombra decided he needed to relocate to warmer climates where the Crystal Heart was miles at least away from him, and couldn't blast him. Thus determined, Sombra grew a crystal chariot in the Frozen North and had it take him to safety. Eventually he discovered an abandoned island that was not in use by any pony or other creature, and after checking the entire island for inhabitants, Sombra built his own castle there.

 

With the castle eventually built, Sombra decided that he needs ponies on his island, both to serve him and serve as his citizens. Of course his island was built by him in the North West, far away from all civilization so as to avoid any presence of Alicorn(s) or Elements of Harmony, or other heroic types. 

 

 

Character Personality:

 

Once Sombra was the king of the Crystal Empire, but after two defeats using the same method of the Crystal Heart King Sombra has resolved that he is not going to try and reclaim the Crystal Empire, at least not while the Alicorns draw breath, and the Crystal Heart functions. Truthfully he is a bit scared of the power possessed by the Crystal Heart, his fear of it having motivated him to stay away from the crystal empire in it's entirety. While he may be afraid of the Crystal Heart, Sombra is still a King, at least in his opinion. This has motivated him to try and do a different tactic, learn the secret of the enemy's power and make it his own. Of course, Sombra is a bit scared of Princess Twilight given that she, with no magic and the aid of several powerless ponies and a draconnequis defeated Tirek. This worries him, because he believes he can no longer compete against the Rainbow Power. To be honest, the Rainbow Power and it's wielders scare him more than a little, which is why he has not attempted conquest of Equestria. Still, Sombra is cunning and has long term goals. While he knows he can't reclaim the Crystal Empire, or conquer Equestria Sombra pushed himself to build a castle on an island, with minimal dark magic usage used in the construction.  Sure it's not Equestria, but it's good enough for him for now. Sombra wants to see his island have more subjects, and others than just him in it, but believes it to be a pipe-dream. All in all, the former ruler of the Crystal Empire may be willing to reform, but he is very discouraged due to the power on the side of harmony being more than he could ever handle. Plus Sombra knows he isn't exactly anywhere near his full strength he had when he fought Celestia and Luna which is another reason he has decided to use more subtle tactics, as opposed to directly warring against Alicorns. 

 

Sombra is not afraid to get down and dirty against his opponents, but knows he cannot engage multiple opponents who have access to a form of magic that has bested one of the most powerful villains that the world has known. It is out of respect, as well as fear that he has dared not to trouble Equestria in any fashion lately. Still, he does allow himself to make schemes and plans even though he cannot act on them presently without doing them in a subtle fashion.  Sombra doesn't want to be blasted by the Crystal Heart again, and is doing his best to lay low for the time being, content to subtly manipulate instead of directly attack. Given where his island is placed in the North West, far away from civilization Sombra is hopeful that his encounters with Alicorns have come to an end.
