History:

Windy Whistles was the one of six children of Stormy Skies and Joustin' Time, two mares who were high-ranking members of Cloudsdale weather services. Both were loving parents but were so caught up in their work (Stormy as a weather tracking specialist and Joustin' as a rescue worker) that Windy Whistles felt herself left out of a lot of the attention that some of her other siblings got. As she developed and grew she learned that while some ponies may start acting out to get attention, she would instead devote herself to positive and encouraging actions. After all, what better way to catch her parent's attentions than by being the nicest and most agreeable of all their many children?

It didn't work out that way. Indeed, she seemed so well-adjusted and unlike some of her troublemaking siblings that they instead relied on her to help them while away. She took over in helping raise the others, where her constant encouragement and kindness eventually won her the respect of the household. At school, her attitude endeared her to many though a few bullies took advantage of her. She excelled in classes such as music and art though she suffered from poor results in the more mathematical and scientific courses, and was average at best in physical education. She was a well-liked student and her teachers adored her as she never caused them even a lick of trouble.

One day during a class trip a nasty storm sprouted up out of nowhere, the currents somewhere going haywire and causing a cascading impact that hit the vicinity of Cloudsdale unexpectedly. The class was separated and lost. She was battered by heavy winds and was tossed into another student, her head clapping against the hoof of the other. She was knocked out ever briefly. When she awoke, she could swear she could hear 'music' in the air. Following this music, Windy Whistles flapped and fought against the storm. By following this 'music', she was able to get out of the storm and find her class. She helped lead them to the rescue team- her father involved of course- and woke up to find her cutie mark.

Soon afterwards she started to work at the Weather Factory- or more specifically, one part of that huge organization which operates it. She was diligent and pleasant to work with but otherwise unremarkable. She spent much of her spare time trying to work on a way to track the 'music of the wind' as she called it. Eventually she created a mock-up using old instruments and used it to track one pattern, then another. She showed it to others and got help in creating a machine capable of interpreting sonic-based emanations from the weather of the Everfree.
This helped the weather factory and analysts understand better how the weather of the Everfree operated, giving them the ability to predict storms. She sold the idea to the Equestrian government and made a small fortune. She semi-retired very young, only working when the machine and system she helped create needed more fine-tuning.

She would meet her future husband Bow Hoothoof soon after. He was a former hoofball player turned coach and the two hit it off after a game. She was outrageously encouraging, cheering him on even when his team was being crushed. It became something of a problem as the two would converse during the games, eventually leading to his dismissal. Not that it mattered; the two had fallen in love and were married not long after meeting! She would become pregnant not long after the marriage. Her one and only daughter, Rainbow Dash, was a rambunctious bundle of energy that her momma was more than happy to cheer for. The rest is history!

Personality:

Windy is relentlessly positive and excited about and for others. She wants to see others succeed at their tasks as much as she wants to succeed and will rarely provide criticism, even constructive criticism, in lieu of being an encouraging quote machine. This is nothing compared to her encouragement for her daughter and husband, which is all-encompassing and never-ending. It can be more than a little overbearing but she always means well and has little control over it, really. Her extreme positivity and encouragement can come across as fake to those that don't know here, though anypony who spends more than a few days around her can see it is as true as the sun is hot.

While her outrageous positivity is her defining trait, she is actually deceptively intelligent. She can solve problems quickly and produce results when given the proper tools. She can be a bit spacey and unfocused when her mind isn't on current tasks as well as extremely focused on whatever has piqued her interest, even if it distracts from work. She has a habit of diving deep into the hobbies and interests of friends and family that are close to her. She is a quick learner but her overzealous nature means more often than not, her desire to learn and grow with the other can be a detriment to the enjoyment of the activity...for others, as pointed out by even some of her best friends.

Her hobbies are many and varied as she tends to dive deep into something for a short while, only to abandon it at a later time. Her storage is a treasure trove of games and collectibles she played with at one time or another, often for her lovable daughter, husband, or a friend. About the only two things she has always consistently enjoyed doing is reading (basically anything, and often acting out daring do books for her daughter when she was young) and playing her grand piano. She isn't necessarily all that skilled, but she enjoys it and that is all that matters.

There are a few things that can break through her positivity though. She shares herself freely with others, which makes her likely to be jostled and hurt by the meanspirited comments of others. She tries not to show it, but she feels it deep and hard. Her siblings are important to her but over time as work has taken them, they see each other only ever rarely. She showers them with gifts even abroad and receives little in return. Rainbow says she is getting taken advantage of, but she scoffs at such a thought- she is rich and they are not. Just another form of positivity as far as she is concerned!
