Roleplay Type: WoE
Name: Velvet Whisper
Sex: Female
Age: Young Mare (Early Twenties)
Species: Pegasus
Eye Color: Cream Yellow
Coat: Dark Magenta
Mane/Tail: Bright Cyan and Cream Yellow. Velvet's mane is straight and is just barely too short to reach her back. She has round bangs that go down in between her eyes as low as her second eye lash. Her mane is in the style of a sort of bob. Her tail is wavy and reaches just below her thigh. Her tail is thick, and locks of the mane curl downward and the bottom ends curl away from her flank.
Physique: Average
Residence: Ponyville
Occupation: Florist
Cutie Mark: Himalayan Blue Poppy Flowers with White Musical notes. Velvet received her Cutie Mark as an older filly singing a gentle tune to a Himalayan blue poppy that was too scared to open its bud. She claimed that the bud was sharing her current fear of growing up, but she was afraid that the bud would get cut off from the rest of the plant.
Unique Traits: Velvet swears she has this ability to "talk" to flowers. Or, rather, she whispers to them. Velvet claims that flowers are shy and get scared into silence by loud noises. Whatever the case, what is very clear is that she has the unique ability to "encourage" flowers to be healthier than usual. She uses her wings as a means to help get the message across to the flowers. Her voice is also rather inconsistent with volume, but she generally is soft spoken and sensitive to loud noises, so she believes she has above average hearing.

History: Velvet Whisper was born under very... special circumstances. Or rather, that's what she was told as a filly. Her parents would tell her how parents of a little filly planted a seed in a beautiful garden, hoping something beautiful would grow out of it. Little did the parents know that a little foal would appear once the bud of that flower bloomed into a beautiful flower. Of course, Velvet was born the same way all ponies were born: via magic. Or, at least, that's what her parents told her.

Velvet Whisper was the only child to Bread Crumb and Cinnamon Bun, two humble, local bakers who made their living in Poniville. The two were literally made for each other. Bread was a Pegasus who had always dreamed of raising a business and selling his dear mother's bread recipes to the world. Bread would see to it that the world realized how wonderful of a baker his mother was, and help families all through out Equestria with anything they requested. Cinnamon was a Pegasus with a promising athletic career. She was quite the gifted flier in her time, but in a blink of an eye her talent was stripped away from her.

Cinnamon Bun wasn't her original name, in fact. She never told Velvet her full name, but she used to be called rocket because she was a speedy flier. Unfortunately, one day she pushed her boundaries and snap! She crashed right into the ground wing first. She injured her wing so badly, the doctors said she would be lucky if she ever flew again. Sports was simply off the table, and Rocket never did fly again. The mare was absolutely devastated. Rocket had passed the bakery many times, but never once entered the establishment because she honestly thought she was better than Bread Crumb. She snuffed at the idea of ever even so much as looking at the place. However, it just so happened that the devastated pony needed something sweet to help her forget about her tragedy.

Bread Crumb was right there to help him. At the time, Rocket couldn't even tell that Bread was fully aware of how badly the mare had talked about him behind his back, but she also didn't know how much Bread admired her. The mare was courageous in ways this simple Earth Pony simply couldn't be. Why, if he had ever lost his gift for baking, he would have just died right then and there. So he made it his mission to tell her how he felt about her courage, though it seemed as though Rocket's smile was one that had to be earned. And earn he did. Many slices of creamy, buttery raspberry cheesecake, Rocket's favorite, and even more conversations, and Rocket was able to recover from this devastating blow. They'd been together ever since.

Of course, they expanded upon the baking business, since Rocket, having changed her name to Cinnamon Bun, wasn't one to allow a business of hers to remain in a humble cul-de-sac that Bread was more than willing to settle down with. She may have been humbled, but she wasn't quite as humble as he was. Before they knew it, their bakery had become a sensation, and at the peak of its popularity Velvet was born. They were originally going to name her Raspberry Velvet, because she had a sort of purplish yellow color to her mane, but then decided that since the baby was so gentle and quiet that they would instead call her Velvet Whisper.

Initially, her parents thought she would inherit the bakery, but eventually they knew it would never come to pass. No matter how hard they tried, she just never inherited her father's interest in baking. They would simply have to find somepony else to inherit the company. Meanwhile, their little filly had grown quite attached to plants, or rather flowers. Whenever there was a flower of some sort in the story, the little fillies attention was theirs. At first they thought that she simply liked flowers because she was a filly. You know, fillies would normally get in a stage in their lives when they were obsessed with pink, butterflies, anything cute, the princesses, and yes, flowers. But for Velvet it went beyond just a phase.

Though her interest in the color pink went away, not only did she have a consistent interest in flowers, it seemed as though she liked them more and more as she grew older. Her parents knew for certain that the little filly's special talent had something to do with flowers, but her Cutie Mark never came. Months and years passed, and the filly started growing taller, still without a Cutie Mark to her name. This obviously concerned her parents. It was rare for Cutie Marks not to appear before fillies started getting taller. Poor Velvet was starting to get chastised for something other than her erratic fascination with flowers.

One day, Velvet was on her way home from school when she heard a soft murmur. Or, at least, that's what she claimed. The young filly looked around frantically because the murmur sounded distressed. She initially thought that a pony was in danger, but she couldn't find the source of the sound. It took her a while, searching up and down the area, but finally she figured out that the murmur was coming from a flower bud. Her cream colored eyes glanced back and forth after figuring this out, but the young Pegasus brought her snout closer to the bud anyway. She asked if it was okay, but the flower seemed to yelp in fear. She didn't initially realize she was being too loud until she tried talking to it in a softer volume. That was when, as claimed by Velvet, the flower began talking to her. Velvet claimed that the flower told her that it was incapable of opening up its petals. It was too scared to.

Velvet told the flower that she understood and that growing up was really hard for her, too. Velvet had even avoided finding her special talent this whole time because of her fear of growing up, but that was simply something she would have to get over. Velvet knew of that bud never opened its petals, then it would most likely be cut off from the rest of the plant. She couldn't tell the bud that because that would make it even more scared than it already was, according to Velvet. So, instead, she asked what she could do to make the bud feel safe enough to open up.

At first, the bud didn't know, but eventually it decided that music was the best way to cheer it up. Flowers were easily startled by loud sounds, Velvet said, but music was one thing flowers would welcome at any volume. Lucky for them, Velvet was naturally soft spoken, so it was even better for the bud. Velvet sang as gently as her vocal cords would allow her, and slowly but surely the flower bud began to bloom in full. It wasn't a very big flower, and it wasn't as impressive as the other flowers of its kind, but it sure was beautiful. Velvet made sure to say so, to which she said the Himalayan blue poppy thanked her.

Velvet was so proud of herself that she hadn't even noticed that the Cutie Mark even appeared until she got home. Her parents made quite the fuss, but little Velvet Whisper knew that she had to have received her Cutie Mark from helping that flower. She knew then and there that her special talent was literally speaking to flowers, and she talks to them to this day.

Of course, her parents are supportive of everything she does, but they never did quite believe her, and they still don't. That was never a concern for the young mare, though, as she still set up a flower stand all the same. Dear little Velvet Whisper owns a business of her own now. She's a florist, and is one of the best in Ponyville in fact. Though, because of her strange method, insisting on talking to her "clients", not just any pony is willing to let her in their gardens. However, those who do state that there's no doubt. She's get a true talent. She whispers to them and somehow they just look a million times healthier. And seeing as though she has quite the soft voice, and the flowers only respond to whispers?

Who knows? Dear little Velvet Whisper just might be onto something.

Character Personality: Velvet is an... interesting pony. She's rather soft spoken, but is far from shy and reserved. She is quite the hermit, yes, but that has nothing to do with her lack of ability to make friends. Rather, most ponies she's interacted with are, frankly, scared of her. Velvet talks to plants and tells ponies how flowers "feel" and honestly some ponies could only take so much of that. Does that mean that Velvet is incapable of keep a decent conversation. No, she can do that. She's strange, but not crazy. Velvet talks in gentle little whispers most of the time, but if something particularly excites her or terrifies her, her voice will suddenly explode. It isn't something that she really notices. She thinks she's speaking in a normal tone, and doesn't understand why ponies keep telling her to repeat herself over and over. Honestly, it's very annoying.

Though constantly alone, Velvet is a true blue extrovert and is a lot better when she's with others. She gets lonely when she's away from other ponies for too long, and, though she denies it, often makes it seem like she gives these flowers personalities and names in order to pretend like they're her friends. It could be that she's that desperate for friendship, but she swears that if other ponies would just be quiet and listen, they would be able to hear the flowers speak, too. She likes singing to the flowers, believing that they hear her songs and like hearing her sing to them. However, she dislikes singing in front of other ponies, because she doesn't like being a show off.

Velvet is a humble pony with high morals. As strange as she is, Velvet will go to great lengths to make sure she meets up with her own morals before making sure that other ponies do the same. Velvet's hardly a show off, and rarely ever flies more than a few inches off the ground. The only times she ever flies higher than that is if she's delivering flowers to Cloudsdale, or if she were invited to a big event in Cloudsdale. She has more important things to use her wings for, like helping her whisper to flowers.

Velvet is one of the gentlest ponies one will ever meet. Well, when you're working with flowers, it's almost a prerequisite. She's a careful pony and rarely ever does anything unless she knows she's ready. Velvet has a large amount of self control when it comes to coordinating her wings and hooves. She literally couldn't hurt a fly, if only for the fact that she didn't want to. Perhaps because of this, Velvet was never meant to be an athlete in any sense of the word. She works hard, but Velvet finds no joy in playing sports or competing in general. Ironically, the love of winning, which motivates most athletes, is a trait that causes Velvet to dislike competition of any kind.

Velvet Whisper is an intelligent pony, but she isn't the best communicator. She's prone to saying things that make sense in her head, but once they come out she thoroughly regrets ever saying it. Though she talks a lot, she sort of clams up whenever she's embarrassed, and when she does speak in this state, she only ever talks in a whisper so quiet, no pony could actually hear her. Velvet is a sensitive pony and can have her feelings hurt rather easily, but she isn't an overly dramatic pony nor is she overly emotional, so one may never know that they hurt her feelings. Despite her feelings being easily hurt, she's also very forgiving and quick to recover from any tarnished emotions. Velvet Whisper rarely ever holds a grudge, and doesn't have a vengeful bone in her body. She instead exercises a method of self control, and she tries to assume that the pony means well rather than jumping to the conclusion that they said something mean on purpose.

That being said, Velvet is very possessive of her things. If she loses even the most insignificant item to her, Velvet pretty much explodes when she realizes it's missing. This Pegasus takes pride in her organization and neatness, and knows where all of her things should be at all times. She even has a catalog of everything that she owns in case she ever needs any of it. Her panic may cause the mare to forget that she doesn't actually care about that item as much as she's making a fuss over it, and will only snap out of it if two scenarios occur. One, she finds the item, only to realize the item wasn't as important to her as she thought, or two, someone needs to refresh her memory at how insignificant the item is. At this point, though, the matter of convincing her may be a bit more difficult than one would imagine, what with her running around and screaming in a bundle of nerves. Yeah, good luck with that.

Velvet is a bundle of joy, and rarely ever gets depressed. However, when she falls, she falls hard. Holding in all of her emotions can take a lot out of a pony. She's aware of this flaw, but is constantly having trouble really controlling it. For whatever reason, she just finds it so much easier to hold her emotions in rather than letting them spill out. Perhaps deep down she thinks that telling her problems to flowers, whom she claims talk in whispers, isn't enough to truly vent. She needs someone to be there for her, and to be the ear she's always been to the flowers she cared for. The ears her flowers simply can't be.

Character Summary:

A quirky florist who swears that she can talk to flowers, though personally I think she's bonkers! She's a soft spoken, gentle soul who wants to help Equestria in every way her father Bread Crumbs wished to, and still does.
