Good Evening Equestria, this is your 0600 hourly broadcast come'n to you live from Canterlot Keep.

In tonight's weather, Her Majesty's Weather Wing continues in its efforts to ward off the winter freeze. A reported assembly of over 50 cumulus have been gathered and flown North from the plains; bit of an early Hearth's Warming gift from the South. The second wave of this years collected warm front is reported to consist of another 40 nimbus expected to arrive some time in the next coming week, and not a moment too soon as wild storms from the Everfree continue to pile on the snow from both the North and Northeastern districts.

For this evening's news, the number of perimeter conflicts continue to climb as the Everfree finds its own way of getting into the holiday spirit.  The scientific community is continually baffled by the forest's shiny new toys, a collection of winter adapted wildlife both hostile and otherwise.  For those of you tuning in from Froggy Bottom, keep your head's warm and down...

...Speaking of the scientific community, old developments in Ponyville are brought back into the spotlight as a formerly canceled search has been revived.  Doctor Petalwing, seen as the town's natural observer, was reported missing over a year and a half ago having entered the Everfree with her team in early spring of last year.  Having little friends or family, funds for the search effort were short.  Reports say that after a few days the search was officially dropped by the Ranger Corps stationed in Ponyville, sparking a wave of disapproval about how future search efforts should be handled.  You ask me, nothing comes for free now a'days...

....Either way, in a surprising turn of events, a press conference was held last weekend to address the up shoot in border conflicts and disappearances. During proceedings it was announced that as a show of concern for the situation a number of cases would be reopened and addressed under direct order of Her Majesty, the first of which was said to be Ms. Petalwing's.  So, despite a lack of payment, it seems the Ranger's of Ponyville are in for a not-so-quite Hearth's Warming Week as the preparations for their outing are reportedly underway...

Your listening live to the one and only DJ Pon3 on LUN-FM, here with you all night ever night...now while the Spectra lasts, let's get back to the music

Welcome to the realm of Nightmare Moon, an Equestria far different from the one we know and love.  It's the dead of winter and the eternal night continues to stretch on, as does the continually expanding Everfree forest.  With a new ruler, comes a new ethical outlook as the citizens of Equestria have become a colder bunch.  With harmony removed the wild forces of the Everfree have been unleashed on the world and the forest closes in.  All that stands in its way next to a few thinly stretched border guards, are the Rangers.  Conducting operations within the forest they use the newest technologies (something rather developed in Nightmare Moon's Equestria) to bring out those who are lost, or push back whatever comes through the trees.  You will play as a new recruit, hastily brought in to assist with a difficult search through the frigid depths of the winter forest.  Myself and Whitetoast will be your guides (as we have planned this thing out through the last week) as we move from objective to objective and eventually uncover a whole new case, one that may determine the fate of Equestria as we know it.

Name: Loose Cannon
Race: Earth
Appearance: She has short mane and tail with a darker orange tone than her coat. Her eyes are basically white, but they can appear a bit red sometimes, remnants of her uveitis. She is above average in strength. Her cutie mark is a flaming horse shoe.

Personality: She can seem intimidating sometimes, but other times she's kind of nice. She's not a leader, don't put her in charge, she doesn't know what to do. She tries not to care much about how ponies think of her, but it can be clear sometimes that it doesn't work.

Winter Civilian gear:

-Thick wool sweater.

-Blindfold (Despite serving virtually no function, her eyes are still sensitive. She wears it sometimes to stop further inflammations. It also looks cool, maybe.)

(I think we'll be starting soon,  I think all we need to do before we get started is sort out the winter gear our heroes will start with before they find out about the mission.  These would be more personal items and pieces of clothing aside from combat gear, perhaps it would be packed up and used during times of rest on their journey ahead.  Also Here's my app along with the gear.)

Name: Patch

Sex: Male

Coat: Light blue

Mane: Grey, pushed by hoof up and to the right

Eyes: Turquoise

Complexion: Smug, bordering on cocky, commonly wears band aid over bridge of snout

Cutie-Mark: "Star of Life" medical symbol

Personality: As said in Complexion; cocky and sarcastic, however loyal like most Pegasus.

Activity: Takes up medical professions, doesn't shy away from violence, can be running common errands like others

Bonus Notes: Depending on the era or dimension of the current RP, Patch finds himself rather attracted to Nurse Redheart

Winter Civilian Gear:

-a bandanna of sorts hung loosely around his neck to warm his muzzle against strong winds.

-Wears a hoodie/windbreaker often in the winter, but will also include it under his vest and ranger jacket when operating

-Wears a beanie to cover his mane when cold, with the exception of a few stubborn buts of hair that stick up out of the front

Name: Frosty (Nickname which he uses instead of his real name)

Sex: Male

Race: Earth

Appearance: He's snowy white in color with a light blue mane and tail. Neither taller or smaller than the average pony, Frosty is rather normal looking. Surprisingly, his eyes are dark green.

Cutie Mark: His mark is that of a mechanic's wrench and a cog, referring to his ability to tinker with all kinds of machinery.

Personality: Carefree and upbeat, he's almost always in a good mood and up for everything that he likes, not caring about good and bad. Frosty enjoys attention, especially the one he gets by proving himself, and also has a good deal of humor, often cracking jokes or making sarcastic comments about the things that cross his mind each time. He is no halfwit though, being quite wise and serious when it's necessary.

Winter Civilian Gear:

Coat with a furry hood on, thick and warm balaclava out of wool and snow goggles with orange lenses, all white of course.

(First bit's up, also check the story in the first post....bad news we're no longer getting paid)

With a short vinyl jump the broadcast continued, giving way to a steady holiday tune complete with the ornamental scratchiness of transmitter technology.  The distant voice of a vocalist wafted gently from the small glowing box on the counter, the aqua green glow of the device's central spectra pool rising and falling with her voice.  The composition did well to continue the establishments tranquil, bordering on downcast, atmosphere.  Though it did seem that at one point the diner was designed to evoke feelings of foalish joy or playfulness, it was apparent that times had changed.  The once vibrant pink booths were now worn and a closer shade to rosewood.  The many light sources, fixed in various positions along the walls, shone dim from age while their newer network of spectra tubing tried and failed to reflect and amplify the dismal display.  These pipes ran from the worn blu-ish floors and up onto the aged cream walls, snaking along to  the many over-sized bulbs along the way which were awaiting their fair share of Spectra Yellow.  They shone in contrast not only to their accompanying light fixtures, but also the very structure of the building in which they were installed.  The rafters, once painted the same pink as the booths below and decorated with an assortment of delicious looking imagery, were now chipped and worn.  The same could be said for the many supporting beams that stood throughout the business's main space, twisted and colored to appear as over sized candy canes.  It was in this environment, reflecting a time of long lost cheer, the patrons of Sugar Cube Corner resided.

The crowd was composed of the usual gaggle: blue-yolked and tired work horses, dead end souls, and two Rangers.  They sat in a booth not too far from the swinging doors of the establishment, obviously automated as to keep out as much winter air as possible.  The mare, of average build for one of her youthful age, sat slumped and slumbering over an unknown sleeved chart.  The stallion across from her, sipped from his steaming cup.  He took shifts, briefly looking to his companion before turning his attention outside the large window.  He'd been keeping track the snowfall, which so far had proven to only worsen as day drew into night.  A battle raged as the white blanket attempted to cover the streets of the small town, but was continually blasted back by the opposing heating system operating from nozzles within avenue gutters.  He witnessed as small burst of steam would puff up along the street, alluding to the myth that the winter roads were marginally warmer.  He thought of the contrast between the cold world beyond his glass shielding and the relatively cozy interior in which he found himself.  Shifting, he took the time to stretch and lean back into the booth, extending his hoodie garbed formed towards the ceiling.  He groggily scratched light blue snout and ran his hooves through his grey mane, only reinforcing its upward swooping posture.  Within a final flutter of his turquoise eyes, he felt the after affects of the stretch subsiding and a gradual resulting surge of energy coming on.  He turned back to his companion, who remained asleep, before a flicker of pink caught his eye.  He turned again to face the front counter of the establishment as a pink mare, sporting an equally pink and frazzled mane approached in waitress ware.

The day was dark, and it was cold. But that wasn't really out of the ordinary. The cold was normal, Dark was normal, and for her, it wasn't really a thing, to begin with. It was kind of a surprise for her to be pulled into the Rangers until she found out it was in times of desperate needs. So that was it? The Everfree was wearing them down through Attrition so it was no wonder that she got in so easily. Well, it would surely be more exciting than her original job. HMA was fun to do, but she had to admit she was no sensei. She needed real combat, and so she accepted the role, even if the budget was low, and she would probably not make any cash off of it, what good would be cash if she wasn't expecting to survive?

She trotted through the cold, albeit it was kind of confusing as the weather tried to fight against the systems in place to keep the town from completely frosting over. If one was outside at this time, then they were probably crazy or they were traveling. If there was anypony watching her, then they'd probably be wondering how she was getting around with her eyes so blocked like that, maybe if they were closer they would be able to hear the sounds she would make. It's not like she needed to do such now anyway, she knew her way to her destination. She had gotten the job, but she didn't really know much else. Maybe there was some information that she couldn't read somewhere. She was going to the diner to try and gather more information, maybe there was somepony there that could tell her.

She finally made it inside the building. She would have to make use of the heat as much as she could for she probably wouldn't be experiencing it much ever again. Trotting her way over to her usual spot, she noticed the usual presence of the #1 employee. "Yo, Ponks, get me the usual would ya?" she called out before realising it would probably be the last time she'd ever get this. "Make it three, to make up for the times I won't be here."
