"Shut up hippie," the tall reddish maned unicorn snorted back, using her unicorn levitation to replace her apron and big white chef's hat. She was caught offguard, but then began to think of her current situation. She hadn't been tossed out again, and her name was still on the talent show sheet, so she knew she'd still have a chance to perform for him. A smile came upon her face when she realized she still had a chance to get noticed by the famous talent scout. Her moment of bliss was broken up when Saddlesore walked up to her, ready to complain.
"There's a mess to clean up over by the second buffet table. Get a move on, Destiny Caterer!"
Destiny turned and snarled at the grumpy blue stallion but then resisted the urge to slap the grin off his face with her hoof.
"Gotta play along, can't ruffle any more feathers," she thought to herself as she walked over to begin cleaning. Meanwhile, Jubilee was still talking to Big Time.
"Thanks Mr. Big Time! My band and I will be ready!" the petite blonde Pegasus boasted as she flew back to where Mojo was sitting. The Paint stallion had just got his plate of food as he sat near Shanna, Bull Dozer, Hoss, Starflower and Spirit Flame.
"Modge, I really need a big favor from you."
As she explained her situation to Mojo, Starflower was still helping Spirit Flame get adjusted to her new surroundings.
"You look confused, Spirit Flame. Do you have any questions for me? I'd be happy to answer them."

"What is the purpose of a party like this?" she asked in a quiet voice. "I do not understand the function it serves..."

“Thish ish gonna tasht great,” said Bull Dozer through the plate in his mouth. Suddenly, he almost slowed to a stop as he saw the ponies who were now at the table. The brown earth-stallion resolved his issues with Mojo, but he still hadn’t even talked to the other ponies since he first arrived.
Bull Dozer decided to simply pretend like they weren’t there until one of them approached him, which was ridiculous, but he was stubborn that way.
The bulky earth-pony was about to dig into his food, when he caught himself looking at Shanna’s flank again and remembered to ask her about her cutie-mark. “That’s a fine cutie-mark you got there,” he said with a sincere smile, “if you don’t mind, I’d love to hear about how you got it.”
Bull Dozer shoved a whole sandwich into his mouth, but kept his attention on Shanna. It was clear he was trying maintain his best manners, but the big oaf was struggling with all this delicious food now sitting in front of him.
After Jubilee returned to her friends, Big Time finally got one of the caterers to give out raffle-tickets. He went up and talked things over with the DJ of the party, and solidified their plan for the talent show.
Afterward, the Pegasus stallion sat down and relaxed next to the stage. Ponies were getting their raffle tickets from the caterers, the talent show was planned, his rear was bandaged, and it seemed everypony was having a good time. Maybe now he could relax for a bit.

Hoss chuckled at Bull Dozer's comment as he loaded up his plate. "I can imagine you eat as much as a pegasus. You look like you could buck a ball out of a ballpark easy."
Shanna slowed as the larger pony did. "Nervous? Dont be. Mojo will vouch for you..."
As Shanna sat down to eat, she turned and smiled at Bull Dozer. "Oh Thank you! I would love to tell you. Mother is an Astronomer, and we went with our parents on the long trips for her observations. Mom and Dad both taught us one night to navigate by the stars if we got lost, and use the North Star as our guide. We were so enthusiastic, we wandered off for practice in the evening while our parents were busy and got lost.
After the clouds parted, we followed the stars back to the camp, where mom and dad were asking the zebras to search for us. The Shaman pointed out our new Cutie Marks, the North Star."
She nods to Hoss, "Now we are both Weather Patrol for several hours by day, and Astronomers at night."
Hoss flared out his wings proudly "Yeah! Have telescope, will travel!"
She smirked and poked Bull Dozer's Cutie Mark with a wingtip "How about yours? What does it mean?"
Hoss earperked when he saw a very flashy black unicorn boldly trot in and head for Big Time "Ooooh niice..." He ahemed and remembered he was at the same table with Jubilee after Shanna gave him a little kick under the table. "Oh uh, you are so going to smoke her at the talent show, of course, Jubilee. You are MUCH prettier..."

"A party is a big celebration! It's a time to meet new friends, enjoy fancy food, generally become amused and entertained! You've never been to a party before, young lady?"
"Thank you, sir!" Jubilee said, acknowledging Bull Dozer's compliment before turning her head towards Mojo. "As I was telling you, Modge, I need a band to help me perform in the talent competition. I know you play guitar and I can play piano. PLEASE say you'll help me out!"
"Ya know I'm there for ya, Wings, but you and me don't make a full band. Ya really need more ponies than that to make up a band."
"You're right! What am I going to do? I'm SUNK!"
"No you're not!" Starflower interjected. "Couldn't help overhear, I can play tamborene and help with back up vocals."
"WOW! You'd be willing to help me tonight?"
"Certainly, now if we only had one more band member..."
"YOU HAVE IT!" Saddlesore interrupted. "I play electric guitar and I owe the big unicorn here a favor for exposing that mean oversized brillo maned Destiny Star to the room!"
"Half a mo', YOU want to help us out?"
"Don't like ownin' any pony anything!" Saddlesore grunted. "I pay my debts!"
"Thank you so much!" Jubilee shouted as she fluttered over and gave the blue stallion a quick kiss on the cheek, This caused the blue stallion to blush red slightly.
"Now don't get mushy!" he grunted, fighting the urge to smile.
Watching from a distance was a furious Destiny Star.
"I am SO going to smoke that group of glue factory rejects in the talent competition! I'll win it, by hook or by crook!"

Spirit noticed then as Starflower listened to another conversation and then offered to help with something. She was confused by what Starflower and the others were discussing.
"What is a talent competition?" Spirit asked, tilting her head in curiosity.

Suddenly, the music cut off, leaving just the lights dancing around the walls and the floor. The DJ walked off the stage, and whispered something into Big Time’s ear. “Wh-what?! But I PAID you for the whole night?! I even got you the equipment!” The DJ just shrugged and walked away.
The blue Pegasus felt himself start to panic, but took a deep breath to calm himself down. “Alright…a party is still a party…even though there’s no music…” Big Time stomped a hoof, “Oh! Who am I kidding? This night is destined to fail…”
A light bulb went off in the talent agents mind, “wait,” he turned to Beat Match, “YOU’RE a DJ! Would you mind being the DJ for the rest of the night? There’ll be a nice five-hundred bits in it if you do.”
Bull Dozer listened to Shanna. He smiled as her eyes seemed to light up while she explained what her special talent was. The brown stallion’s mind drifted to the unique markings on her coat, such as her black muzzle and the black tips of her wings. In all honesty, he never really noticed the beauty of Pegasus wings until now. Regardless, not even her wings matched the beauty of her deep blue eyes. It was almost hypnotizing the way they-
"Yeah! Have telescope, will travel!"
Bull Dozer snapped back into the conversation once Hoss spoke. His mind had drifted through Shanna’s story, and he cursed himself for his poor listening skills.
Before he could say something that would make him sound like an utter foal, Shanna spoke up and asked him a question.
"How about yours? What does it mean?"
With a small breath of relief, Bull Dozer responded, summoning his best poker face while talking.
“I’m sure my story isn’t as interesting yours, but I don’t mind sharin’.” Bull Dozer shifted a little in his seat. He loved this kind of conversation, especially when he talked about what he did for a living.
“When I was a foal, I always bucked things. Toys, walls…sandcastles,” at the mention of that word he snuck a glance over to Big Time, who was busy with a black coated mare. “…and because of that, I was one of the first in my class to get my cutie-mark. It happened after my dad brought me to his work and let me tear down my first house.” Bull Dozer smiled at the memory, and his hind leg twitched a little bit, “I still remember the snapping of the support beams…then the final crackles as the house came down…
“Ever since then, I got my cutie-mark, which is a wrecking ball.” The buff stallion chuckled, “…as if anypony needs a wrecking ball with me around. I can take down a building in ten seconds flat these days.”
Bull Dozer took another nibble of his food and swallowed, then continued, “anyway, ever since then I’ve gotten work as a destruction worker. I work at the same construction industry as my dad. He builds ‘em, and I tear ‘em down.” With a laugh, he leaned forward and took a sip from his drink.

She swished her tail as she smiled again, "Too bad you cant' fly, You would be a natural as a weather pony. We're always having to clear out clouds and bust up thunderstorms before they get dangerous."
She gave her brother a teasing smirk "I bet you could even outdo my brother at cloud bucking..." and stuck her tongue out at Hoss, giggling.
Said stallion snorted and fluffed his wings, shooting his sister a look. He fumed, then started looking around, wondering if he could get cosy with Jubilee or one of the other young mares to get him out of range of his sister's teasing....

"In the case of this party, a talent competition is when ponies who have musical abilities perform on stage with a judge deciding who played and sang the best. I am going to help my friend Jubilee with her performance later in the evening. Do you have any special talents, abilities, things that you are good at?"
Now that she had a band, Jubilee sat down next to Hoss and breathed a sigh of relief.
"PHEW! This will be my big chance! If I can impress Big Time, maybe he'll sign me up as a client! So Hoss, I hear you're a weather pony. What's it like working up there in the clouds? I came from Cloudsdale myself, but I wasn't cut out for the Weather Bureau."
Mojo smiled when he saw Shanna and Bull Dozer 'warming up' to one another. Deciding it would probably be better not to interject himself into their conversation, the Paint stallion turned and spotted Saddlesore bedeviling Destiny Star some more.
"Oh miss! There's a clog in the Men's room and you're the PERFECT pony to clean up the mess."
"Are you out of your little blue mind? I will NOT lower myself to do such menial labor!"
"Well then I need to go tell Big Time you're refusing to .."
"You didn't let me finish," Destiny said in a nicer tone. "I will not lower myself to do such menial labor without getting my rubber hoof gloves and appropriate tools first!"
"That's better, brillo head!" Saddlesore laughed as he turned to walk away. Destiny SO wanted to harpoon the loudmouthed blue stallion for his arrogance, but backed off when she remembered she had to stay on everyone's good side so she could perform in the talent competition.
"That blue bloke better stop teasin' her. It's not cool to get attacked by an angry unicorn!" Mojo muttered.

"My teacher sometimes says I have a real talent for magic," Spirit said in a quiet voice. She then started to nibble at the salad Starflower brought to her. It was nice and mild, so she liked it.

“I suppose so, Ms. Skybright.” Bull Dozer laughed and leaned back, patting his stomach, “although, I probably wouldn’t get too far off the ground.”
The brown earth stallion looked at his stomach, then looked to Shanna again. There was a little voice in his head screaming at him to tell her something. Since the conversation fell into a momentary silence, now was as good a time as ever. With a slight shade of red on his cheeks, Bull Dozer spoke: “Um…M-Ms. Skybright…” he cleared his throat, “…I was wondering if…” suddenly, the embarrassed stallion changed the course of his sentence, saying something he regretted as soon as it left his mouth, “…you wanted to dance.”
If Bull Dozer could’ve hit himself on the head without looking like an idiot, he would. What in Equestria was he thinking?! He had no experience in dancing, let alone any experience in dancing with a mare. Just the thought of it seemed….awkward for him. However, he put the offer out there, and backed it up with a nervous smile.

"I hope you do get the contract, Jubilee." She suddenly asked him what it was like as a weather pony? bliss!
He smiled "Well, it can be busy sometimes, especialy with an emergency call to knock out a storm or tornado. Dad is awesome at untwisting one but it takes a lot out of any pony to do so alone. Me and Shanna can undo one with less effort by flying as tight a pattern as the Wonderbolts do."
Hoss smiled at the next memory "The real fun though is surfing stormfront winds. You can really build up speed off of a big thunderhead and get a warning out faser if you cant take it apart alone. We've almost.. Almost!.. Done a Sonic Rainboom coming off that nasty unscehduled boomer three months ago, the one that was turned aside into the Everfee before it hit Ponyville once the Ponyvlle Weather Patrol was alerted."
He takes a drink, then continues "We can usually wrap up the daily assignment quickly enough to get sleep or take care of other things before evening, when we spend time doing our Astronomy fieldwork."
He smiled at the young mare "By the way, how did you get your start?"
Meanwhile Shanna giggled pleasently as Bull Dozer said he would not get far off the ground, showing off his now full tummy.
She earperked as he seemes to be getting flustered again, * Ooooh I wonder what he's going to ask? *
When he popped out asking her to dance, her face seemed to light up "I would love to! I must confess I usually dance while hovering as is common in Cloudsdale so I may not be up to the latest groundside dances. I should have no trouble, though. Just let the music move you, right?"
Just then, the black unicorn DJ started playing and called out;

"When I was growing up, my parents wanted me to be a racing Pegasus, a great flyer like they were. At first, I went to the flight camps and was quite skilled at flying. But then, someone introduced me the music of Sapphire Shores! THE pony of POP!! From that moment on, I dreamed of performing on stage with her! Secretly I took music and dance lessons behind my parent's back. It wasn't until we had a fight when I lost the Jr Speedsters Finals that I told them about my dream. They were FURIOUS with me, but when I rushed over to the family piano and began to play classical music that brought tears to their eyes, they finally decided to let me pursue a career in entertainment. Attended a special Music and Performing Arts School and now, here I am. I actually met Mojo while I was in that school, but that's another story."
The dashing Pegasus stallion then asked Jubille to dance.
"Dance? SURE! You betcha!" she squealed as she grabbed Hoss by his front hooves and pulled him into the middle of the dance floor. "C'mon everypony, let's shake those flanks!"
Seated next to Spirit Flame, Starflower nodded to acknowledge her response.
"A talent for magic? That's wonderful! Unfortunately, this isn't a magic competition. This kind of talent show is for entertaining, things like singing and dancing. Have you ever did any of those things before, Spirit Flame?"
As Mojo returned to the table, he heard the DJ's announcement and the music playing.
"Far out! Time to get me groove on!" the Paint stallion said as he trotted out to the dance floor and began to move with the music.
Moments later, when Destiny Star emerged from the Men's Room after cleaning it, she saw all the ponies dancing and having a good time out on the dance floor.
"What? They're having fun and I'm not the center of it?" the tall reddish maned unicorn complained. "That does it! I've done enough work! I'm going to have some fun too!"
When Destiny pleaded with other stallions in the room to dance with her, every one of them refused. In desparation, she approached Mojo who was dancing by himself.
"Look hippie, I need a dance partner, and YOU'RE IT!"
"Calm yourself, love. Ya seem to be very uptight, so many negative vibes..."
"Oh, knock off all that weird talk and let's dance NOW!" the arrogant unicorn sneered, using her unicorn levitation powers to position the stunned Paint pony into position as she began to slow dance with him.
"Beggin' yur pardon, doll, but I'd rather be movin' me body on me own."
"Hush now. I want my dancing to look flawless, so I'll keep you in perfect sync with me."
"Don't I get a say in this, miss?"
"Nope," Destiny said as Saddlesore rushed up behind her.
"Quit goofin' off, filly! There's still a lot of work to do here!"
"Tell someone who cares, shrimp!"
"Now that wasn't a cool thing to say to the bloke!"
"No one asked you, hippie!"
"I'm going to tell Big Time on you!" Saddlesore announced just before he felt his snout being tied shut with rope my Destiny's unicorn magic.
"You'll tell NO ONE, dork pony, now leave me alone!" Destiny snorted as she continued dancing with Mojo. Saddlesore trotted over to the back of the room, attempting to pull the ropes off his snout with his front hooves.

Spirit noticed then as the music suddenly changed after somepony said some things. Things seemed suddenly more energetic all around. It seemed like everypony was having just a little more fun. It was just a little loud for Spirit though.

Happy ponies, and many friends, meant more money for him. Soon, he thought to himself, he would find those talented ponies he so desperately wanted as clients.
Bull Dozer got butterflies in his stomach. He tried to look at the other ponies who were dancing to get an idea of what he needed to do to impress Shanna. The brown stallion was relieved to hear that dancing on the ground was at least somewhat new to her, however he was still in trouble.
“Just let the music move you, right?"
When Shanna said that, Bull Dozer almost rolled his eyes. How could music move somepony? The concept was almost foreign to him, but if he had any hope of making it through this dance, he would go through with it. “Right…just…uh…let the music move you….”
Once they got to the dance floor, Bull Dozer was barely doing a sway. His hooves were practically cemented to the floor. At the moment, he wanted to draw as little attention to himself as possible. Bull Dozer watched Shanna with a big awkward grin.

Meanwhile Shanna squealed happily "All right! Beastie Colts!" as she got out on the floor.
As she got ready to dance, she saw Bull Dozer nearly petrified but gamely swaying to the beat. She moved close to him and spoke close to his ear. "Well at least you've got the beat. That's a start. I..um, guess groundside dancing is as new to you as to me... Lets move to the edge of the floor where it's not crowded and we can learn it together."
She put a wing around his withers so he could not say no, and guided him to the side. Shanna then released the wing from him and reared up before him, with the sweetest smile she could make. "Now put your front hooves to mine, look only at me, and move with me..."
