{Las Pegasus} A Late Night Stroll[Attn: Blue]

Wind Dancer assured Sky that he had more fans than perhaps he imagined.  It was certainly possible, but he didn't want to ruin a nice surprise by letting his hopes get out of hoof.  The mare would lean in for a nuzzle just as the stallion was finishing the last bite of his Prench toast, and this time, he went to return it instead of just receiving it.  Unfortunately, since both of them had been eating syrup-soaked breakfast food, the pair of them ended up getting their cheeks stuck together!

"Oops!  Um..."  Embarrassed, Sky tried to pull back, encountering resistance at first, until they suddenly came apart, releasing a sound not unlike the undoing of a giant velcro strap.  The noise was loud enough to attract attention from the waitress and other diners, and Sky could only blush deeply in response.

"Aww, aren't you two honies the cutest of sweethearts!"  Their waitress gushed, while giving practical aid in the form of wet wipes.

Wind Dancer didn't see the syrup on his cheek when she leaned in for the nuzzle, but she sure found out that it was there afterwards! For a moment they were briefly stuck together as they tried to pull away from each other. She heard Sky respond first saying oops and then they started to pull away a bit. It was loud to! With the way it sounded when they pulled away, it sounded like velcro, which could easily be confused for them kissing! The idea crossed her mind for a moment, and she blushed a bit. She... found herself not minding the idea. She then heard the waitress talk about how they were the cutest of sweethearts and gave them some wet wipes, she blushed again but smiled happily.

She opened one of the wet wipes with a wing, but instead of wiping her own face off, she decided to instead use her wipe to clean the spot on Sky's cheek off. She gently repeated the process until the syrup was gone, and once it was she smiled and leaned in to give him a light peck on his cheek. He had given her an amazing night of happiness. A small token of affection was the least she could do for him. Even moreso was the fact that... Well, it didn't feel out of place at all. "Once we finish here, you wanna go back to my place? I know the reservoir is a good bit away from here and it's getting late," she smiled. She unfortunately knew that the night would have to end at some point, but she wanted to prolong that end as late as possible.

Sky was relieved that Wind Dancer didn't feel that the situation was at all awkward; her ability to cut through the potential impasse of embarrassment gave him the leg up he needed to let his blush subside.  He was even able to reciprocate her gesture of affection, in that he was cleaning her face as she cleaned his.  But when she went in for a kiss-!  His heart skipped a beat, sending him into syncopated rhythm.  The nearly-banished blush made it's full rosy return with a gasp, and he looked at her with surprise... but also incredulous happiness, as if he could not believe his good fortune.

"Oh, sure, sure!"  He agreed, hastened along by his mood and sense of the moment.  "It's a... long flight, and I did want to show you a few of the songs I'd been working on."  Still feeling bashful, he retreated into his pockets to get the bits to pay the bill.  But the belated sense of a needed evenness would not let him go, even after the moment passed.  By the time they came to the doorway, he could stand it no longer; he had to return the kiss!  He gave Windy a little peck on the cheek, just as he opened the door for her.  His breathing and heartbeat out of sync and pounding in his ears.  Had he misjudged, or was it serendipity?

Wind smiled as she pulled away. The surprised look on Sky's face was priceless but it didn't look like a bad surprised. It was almost like immense happiness, and minor disbelief. It was quite cute and she couldn't help but be a bit proud. Her smile widened a bit when he accepted her offer to go back to her place. He said that he had some more songs that he wanted to she her. She clapped her hooves happily as he paid for the meal. The bits on the counter caught her attention. She was planning on paying for the date. She couldn't help but feel her heart swell a bit.

She smiled and followed him as they made their way through the door. She stopped dead in her hooves though as she felt him return the small peck on the cheek that she gave him earlier. Her reaction was a bit similar to his, but added a soft teary smile and then leaned against him as they made their way back to her apartment.

The pair of them walked together out into the Los Pegasus night.  Close together, they formed an insulated bubble of warmth and pure affection surrounding them, which presented something of a contrast to the streets around them.  It was getting closer to the later, swinging hours of the night, when those gunning for high-risk over-stimulation were hitting the gambling halls and the clubs, suffusing the city in something of a corporate controlled mania.  It was like the whole Strip was one big carnival ride, where the operators didn't care who was throwing up when it was all done.

But none of that swamped Sky or Windy as they made their way off the tourist-clogged streets, back to the residential block she called home.  Pegasi in apartments would sometimes come in through the balcony window rather than the front door, and the pair of them did so tonight.  Sky was excited to show Wind Dancer one of the new songs he'd been working on, but didn't recall until the lights were turned up in the room that he hadn't any instruments handy.  "Uh, hmm.  Actually, do you think you could pour a couple of glasses of water?  I can take a couple of spoons and tap out the melody on that; it's one of the closest analog ways to re-create some of the sound I synthesized, in any case."

Once the improvised instruments were secured, Sky took a pair of spoons, and began to tap out a simple chime of notes, not as complex as the backing of the eventual recording would be, but enough to support the singing he crooned over it.

Spoiler

The lyrics had some fairly obvious inspirations; it was one of the songs he'd written in that initial flurry of creativity following their first meeting.  The Chorus seemed designed for a duet, which he was sure Wind would have joined in if she knew the words; as it was, he just pitched his voice differently for the female parts.  He finished up the song eventually, playing out the outro in softer notes before finally laying the spoons back down on the counter besides the glasses.

"I, ah, wrote this one for you.  I hope you don't think it presumptuous, it might be a little early to call what we have anything serious... but from all the hints we've gotten so far, I think it'll shape up to be something pretty special, if we care for it."

There was an aura of happiness radiating around the two of them as they began to pass through the heart of The Strip once more as they had to pass through to get back to her place. For a moment... no, for the entire trip back, nothing else mattered to Wind Dancer. She couldn't quite describe why she was feeling the way that she was, but it was definitely something that she'd never felt before. She'd tried her hoof at dating a couple times but... This one... this one felt so much different from everypony else in the past. IT was the only thing that she could think of as she felt the warmth of his body against her as they finally left the strip, not escaping the eye of a few of the lingering reporters that were still around from the show. Perhaps the rumors would turn out to be a bit more than such.

Wind didn't honestly know how long it took for them to get back to her apartment, but a part of her told her that it wasn't near long enough. With a soft smile both her and Sky spread her wings and made her way up to her balcony before opening the sliding door and heading inside. When they were inside, the lights came on, and he had a small look on his face like he forgot something. When he asked for some water, saying that it would work as an improvised instrument, she nodded, bringing in as many as he needed for the experience. She could hear the notes start chiming out. They were quite relaxing, she found herself rocking to the music.

And then he started singing. She couldn't help but look up at him when the lyrics started. So much of them sounded... familiar and she thought back to the night they met a few nights ago. She could feel her heart flutter a bit inside of her. She couldn't help but feel warmth radiating inside of her, and then her eyes widened when he got to what she presumed was the chorus. The inflections in his voice made it obvious that there was supposed to be a second singer helping him. By the inflection... she could tell that it was meant to be a female singer... she felt a bit sad that she didn't know the words that he had written or she'd have sang along... but still... Hearing the words had a much larger an effect on her. The main theme revolving around the... the scent of love... It... also exemplified everything that she'd felt since the night they stayed together... She could already feel her emotions starting to well up. She wasn't sure herself what was building between them, but she knew that... this had a very, very good chance of becoming something a lot more than just friends.

When the music faded she was already wearing the soft smile that she had been for a while now, except a lot brighter and her cheeks were a bit rosy. Anypony could see that she was filled with swirling emotions as she sat there and listened... and then he floored her. She'd already suspected as such... but hearing him tell her that he'd wrote the song specifically for her, and then hearing his thoughts almost exactly mirroring her own... she couldn't contain the emotional happiness that had been building all night. Ever since he had pecked her on the cheek it had been building. She rushed over to him and wrapped him in the tightest hug her wings and forelegs would allow as the tears now freely flowed from her eyes. "Sky... That was... That was beautiful... I loved it so much..." she said through her happy sobs. There was definitely something more brewing here than just a friendship.

Sky had been able to tell from her smile that Wind Dancer had enjoyed his song, but the sudden rush to embrace him took him slightly off-balance.  He was able to stay upright, though, and return her hug within her enfolding wings.  "Wow... I guess I was right, then..."  It was amazing to him just what had come up between them, and how well he'd been able to capture it in music.  Now, in the midst of his art in some way made flesh and material... he was once again assured, that as far away from normal as this story had taken him, he was not dreaming.  Windy was real and in his hooves.

Wind Dancer didn't move. Not for a good while. She just simply stayed here, holding Sky until she was able to start reigning in her emotions. It took her a few moments in order to do just that and finally pull herself from the embrace. She smiled happily as she wiped the tears of joy from her eyes and just looked back to Sky. She nodded slightly when he said that he guessed that he was right. She wasn't sure herself how serious what they had brewing was yet, but she could already tell that it was a little bit more than a normal friendship. She smiled and motioned for him to come to the bedroom. After everything and the emotions she felt today, she was tired and ready to turn in for the evening.

A few days had passed by since the performance that Wind Dancer had done, giving her about a day and a half to rest her wing. After a performance like that, her wing was a tiny bit stiff and sore, and the days off helped her recuperate a bit. As it was, she had just gotten out of the owners office for the Mareage and she was super excited. She had managed to get Sky his performance in the Mareage! It was going to be at the Twilight Sky Bistro and Cafe! They had great sandwiches and often brought in a decent level of variety with their crowds that they entertain. She found herself already on her way out to the Reservoir where Sky had anchored his skyhouse at! She was flying a bit quicker than she normally would be because she was quite excited for him! And of course, she also made sure that it was on a night that one of her shows would not be conflicting with so that one, she didn't take ponies away from his show, and secondly, so she could be there of course!!! She already had her ticket and reserved one of the tables right next to the stage!!

She landed on the deck before knocking on his door. "Sky! are you home!? I've got some good news for you!" she said her excitement boiling over into her tone. She couldn't help but be anxious to see his face when she told him what she had gotten for him! That and well, she was also just excited to see him again. The past few days she often found herself daydreaming about him and yesterday pretty much every one of her thoughts had involved him in some way. She couldn't help but feel a bit antsy just waiting for him to open up the door.

Sky followed Wind into the bedroom, but lingered once again in the world of wakefulness as the mare slipped off into dreams on the other side of the covers.  It wasn't a fitful alertness, though, but rather a quiet sort of happiness, a restful one, even.  His eyes were closed, his mind back in his studio, feathers flying over an imaginary keyboard as he polished up the songs in his head.  From time to time he left this lucid dream by opening his eyes, looking over at the peacefully sleeping pegasus beside him, smiling, before returning back to practice...

A few days later...

There was a scrambling, scrabbling noise of hooves from inside the cloud apartment after Windy knocked on the door, followed by the sound of it opening and the sight of the sky-blue stallion.  A pencil was still held in his mouth from his writing session, but it quickly dropped to the floor once he saw who it was.  "Windy!  Good to see you; come in, you had good news?"  He blinked, as if trying to shed some film from his eyes.  "Is it about the show?  Did the Mareage agree?"

Only a few moments had passed since Wind had knocked on the door before she started to hear the rustling from inside. All the different papers and the like could be heard through the door as it was unlocked and opened up. The sight when the door opened up was that of the sky blue pegasus she'd come to greatly enjoy being around made her bubbling with happiness and she couldn't help but giggle a bit when he dropped the pencil from his mouth when he saw that it was her. When he invited her in she quickly moved in for a brief hug before nodding when he asked about the show and the Mareage agreeing.

"Yes!!! I was able to get you a live performance and the Twilight Sky Bistro and Cafe! The performance will be exactly three weeks from today! I tried to plan it out to give you enough time to prepare for the even as well as for Twilight Sky to get the advertising for it out. I also made absolutely sure to get the event planned on a night that I wasn't performing, or any of the other big names would be performing either so that it would be less likely to draw attention away from you, aaaaand I was also already able to snag the first printed ticket so that I could get the table right next to the stage! So I will be there right next to you while you rock the city that never sleeps with your amazing songs!" she smiled happily.

Although he had already guessed what Wind Dancer's good news was, that didn't stop Sky Sailing from laughing delightedly when she confirmed it.  "That's wonderful!"  He beamed, before giving the mare a grateful hug.  "And so are you"  He said, a little more softly, but just as sincerely.  Pulling back, he picked the pencil back up, tucking it behind his ear.  "I have to say, it certainly sounds like they're pulling out all the stops for a new act.  I'll have to make sure that I live up to their expectations.  Hm..."  He tapped a hoof, already thinking about how the show was going to go.  "Need to plan a set- oh, and make sure I get my instruments over.  Will they mind keeping a storage space open for me as I bring them over, just so I don't have to haul so much all the way over there on the day itself?"

"Even if they don't have one ready for you,  you can keep them in my greenroom. And they are pulling out all the stops! When they heard me speaking so highly of you, they knew that they had to give you the best chance to succeed as possible! That and I wanted to make sure you had the best opportunity. They had another date available that was a little bit sooner, but it was on the same night as another concert over at The Great Sphinx featuring Buck Cherry. They're a fairly popular metal band that have some hooves in alternative works, so I didn't want you to have to compete against them for competition that night. As it is, I made sure to book you on a night that there were no other live performances in town, or at least not any with big names. Almost every casino has a live performance of some sort here..." Wind said excitedly, blushing a bit as well as he called her wonderful and returned her hug, making her lean into it a bit more. "Just let me know when you're ready to start moving some of the instruments to my greenroom and I'll help you get them over there. Otherwise, I need to go and see my tailor so that I can get a dress made for the night!" she smiled giving him a playful wink. "Gotta make sure I look my best for your show."

The full extent of Windy's planning was both astonishing and gratifying to Sky, and he strengthened the resolve in himself to play songs worthy of the faith demonstrated him.  "Dressed to the nines, eh?  Hah, well, my live show outfit's pretty eclectic; it includes a mask if I'm only doing instrumentals, but I think I'll sing the whole set when I get there.  I should get a new jacket when I can afford it, though.  Something with a nebula pattern against midnight blue, that's a good color scheme."

Wind Dancer gave him a nod when he said something about her being dressed for the nines. She couldn't help but smile at the thought. Of course she'd dress up to go see him! He was super special to her and she want him to be as happy as he made her when he showed up for her performance a few nights ago! It made everything that much more special. Being there in a nice, new dress would be a sure fire way to help with that. She couldn't help but feel giddy when he said that his costume usually had a mask for when he was only doing instrumental stuff, but he said that for this performance, he would be singing the whole set while he was there. She loved hearing his voice, and she was sure that everypony else would as well.

She gave him a gentle nod before pulling back and noting the color scheme that he said that he would probably be using for the show. She would need to make sure that the dress that she was getting would match! Not only that though, A nebula would look amazing. She was actually thinking about getting two of them. One that would serve as a dress for the event, and a second one that would be a flight-suit for one of her shows. In the lights of Las Pegasus, that would perform very well!! She smiled and nuzzled him one more time.

"Okay, well I have to get going. My meeting with the Tailor is in just over an hour, so that will give me time to get back into town and then to her. Oh! I almost forgot! The Mareage and the surrounding casinos of Las Pegasus loved that show from Sunday so much, that they want me to do it now as a weekly show, but changing up the songs every week. I talked them into letting me keep the first one because that fit the volcano too well to use anything else for it. But yeah, if you're ever in the need for Inspiration, or... just wanna hang out... you can always come to a show, or just come over to my apartment. You do know where I live after all, and dot forget to let me know if you need any help moving stuff! I'll be happy to lend a hoof!" she said with a smile before taking off to return to the city doing a little loop as she left.
