"Okay, well, you'll have a moment to rest. It'll take me a few to gain altitude for a good dive." With that, Parhelion stretched his wide wings, took a short trot, and flapped heavily away. He labored upward, until suddenly he banked to the left; after that his wings stretched out and he began moving up in a slow, steady spiral, wings unmoving. He rose until he became a speck, and then vanished.

Hoss touched down after he saw the others taking a breather.

The flock Dudner and Bass rounded up were already heading for the nests Shanna and Rainbow Dash had placed while they were gone.

Suddenly there was a sudden flurry of activity by other pegasi placing nests in other sectors.

Just then the Weather Team leader arrived and made an announcement.

Hoss smiled at jubilee as another filly joined the team in response to Midnight Orchid's orders. "Looks like our rest will be cut short, Jubilee, but now we have help."

The increasingly obvious pain of Bass and Dudner's orders to Bass said otherwise.

"...ok, maybe we'll have more time then."

He brought out several floral sandwiches, his canteen and a plastic box of honeyed oat twists. "Jubilee? Persnickity? would either of you like some of my lunch? We've got a long flight and I'm used to endurance flying so I can spare some of my lunch. Bass and Dunder have their own lunches and we have a few minutes anyway while Bass is patched up."

"Oh, I'd love to share your lunch with you, thanks my love!" Jubilee neighed happily. "I was in such a hurry to get here I forgot all about packing anything to eat. You are so thoughtful, Hoss!"

Jubilee smiled as she shared lunch with Hoss. Although she realized there was much more work to do, the petite Pegasus mare couldn't help but to enjoy the time, any time, she could share with the dashing stallion that had own her heart.

Sunrise was almost done clearing the snow off the roof and into the wagon when she noticed Apple Bloom glance at the back of the wagon and showed a little sign of worry. "If it's a little much for you to handle, I'll gladly help pull the wagon and split the load with you!", she said with a smile and a laugh. She enjoyed doing business with and living near the Apple family ever since she first visited their farm and had to fix Valen's tooth.

Hoss nickered and smiled as he shared his lunch with his special somepony, Jublee.

He made sure they were behind a cart so as not to cause more friction in the team when he stole a kiss.

After they finished eating, he fluttered over to Dunder and Bass, his eyes widening when he saw the splints.

"How is Bass doing? He can still travel okay like when we started out this morning, right?"

Muggo' Ale leaned against the cart, bowing his head and closing his eyes for a bit. He took in deep breaths of air to try and fill his lungs and clear out the ache of hauling stuff all day. He'd have to get some food soon, but for now he could help clear the trees. It looked like they needed just one final, hard push from everypony to get this stuff done properly. After about two minutes he raised his head, set his hat, and grinned.

Muggo' made his way to the harness and hitched himself in, then looked up for Parhelion. He waved, unsure of where he was, to get his attention, then started to trot along the path into town.

It wasn't that Apple Bloom was unneceasrily full of pride or unwavering in her belief that she could do anything. However, she wasn't about to let some pegasus dentist come in and help her without there being an actual need for it- she was an Apple, darnit. She would get help when she needed it, but not before she tried as hard as her little filly body would allow.

"Ah'll be fine, Sunrise," Apple Bloom says stubbornly before, with a determined gaze in front of her, she starts pulling. Her legs strain in terrible fashion, digging into the ground in terse, brutal fashion before she took another. Her back muscles, tiny and compact, flex against the rein.

"Ahhhhhhhhhh....ah got...thiiiiiiissss...." She wheezes as the wagon movedsslowly despite all of her great effort. It moves about thirty feet before she falls to her hindquarters and takes a deep breath, wiping her brow.

"Ah guess ah could use your help with this here wagon, Sunrise."

"aaaaaaaaaAAAAAA!" A screaming black speck becomes a hurtling grey pegasus as Parhelion plummets from the sky. With a terrific whoosh, he opens his wings and banks, moving at terminal velocity, past a large tree.

The snow, caught in a turbulent whirlwind, is vacuumed from every branch and nascent leaf. Most of it goes into the wagon the powerfully-built earth pony is pulling; the rest, well...could be anywhere but on the tree.

A dusting of fine ice crystals draws a glittering arc between the tree and Parhelion, as he climbs into the sky, seeking another thermal. "I'll get another one in a few!" Parhelion shouts back, exhiliration ringing in his voice. "Wave again when you're ready!"

Making yet another check on progress, Midnight was impressed to see how much seemed to be getting done now that she'd taken charge and done a bit of yelling to get things back on track. In fact, she couldn't help but feel that things were going a little too smoothly compared to how things played out earlier in the day. She began nervously flying around all the working pegasi, complimenting and encouraging all the brilliant work that was being done, and always remaining alert for anything that was amiss. She would not allow her efforts to be further hampered by anything today, especially not that manticore hanging out by the reservoir...

Midnight did a double take as that thought crossed her mind, and sure enough, a manticore had shown up by the reservoir while she'd been busy checking up on the rest of the team. She flew off toward the artificial collection of water as fast as her wings could carry her, hoping she could arrive on the scene before it made a mess of things.

The sound took Muggo' Ale by total surprise. Parhelion was literally screaming down out of the sky, past him and the tree. He had to quickly put a hoof up to hold his hat down, his tail and mane fluttering back from the blast of air.

"Gotcha, b'y! Watch yerself when ya come down, don't need ya clippin' a wing!" Muggo' shouted back, his voice booming. He trotted along, stopping at the next stop, though this was a building, not a tree. He removed his hat, holding it in a curled fetlock, and began to wave it to signal his speedy pegasus friend.

Sunrise wasn't surprised when Applebloom refused her offer for help at first. She had neglected to remember that you don't offer to help an Apple unless they asked for it first. Watching her strain so hard to get the moving caused a light chuckle to escape her mouth. "She'll ask for my help any minute now.", she said to herself and surely enough, Applebloom was asking for help in moving the wagon.

Gliding off the roof, she landed next to the winded Applebloom and replied, "Of course I'll help you!". Hitching herself into the second rein, she said, "On the count of 3, we'll start pulling together.". Taking several deep breaths, she said, "1, 2, 3, PULL!!!", and pulled forward, hooves digging into the dirt, leg muscles quivering with exertion. Beads of sweat formed on her brow as she said, "Keep pulling!" as the wagon gained momentum.

Cloudchaser grew a little impatient as she waited for Page to return, so she started to fly tricks in the air around the tree to amuse herself. That's when she suddenly caught sight of the team leader flying quickly zooming toward them. Confused as to why, Chaser followed the pegasus' path to its likely end and that's where she saw it! Looming at the edge of the reservoir was a manticore.

Cloudchaser had never seen one of those before. Weren't any manticores out around Las Pegasus. It looked pretty awesome too, she had to see. She needed to get a better look! Deciding that, she zoomed toward the creature. She was a little closer than the team leader was, so she got there ahead of her.

"Wow, look at that thing! Cool!" Chaser started as she got nearer, examining the strange creature from every angle as she flew around it at what she assumed was a safe distance overhead. "Wonder what he's gonna do? Looks strong. I bet we could get him to help us with--"

The manticore promptly leapt up and grabbed her by the tail, cutting her off mid sentence. Narrowly, and with much pain, Cloudshaser managed to pull away, but her momentum sent her tumbling right down into the ice and water of the reservoir. As the manticore leered at her, she wondered if it wasn't so cool anymore. She laughed nervously as the cold of the reservoir and the paralyzing fear both made her shiver uncontrollably.

Rising high on a thermal, Parhelion rested his aching wings. The quick lift to dizzying heights and the cold air, laden with ice crystals still, refreshed him. He gave a sigh of contentment and looked down to see Muggo' pulling to a halt near a big rooftop, the snow already helpfully sectioned out by an enterprising pegasus. He did a quick scan of the area, planning his dive and ascent, a contented smile on his face.

Something caught his eye. Immediately he could tell something was wrong by the resovoir. Two tiny dots were struggling. One of them...was much larger than the other, much larger than any pony! And it was attacking!

Snow forgotten, Parhelion folding his wings and went into a spiraling dive. He straightend out above the streets of Ponyville and took a deep breath. "Muggo'! Monster! Resovoir! MONSTER! RESOVOIR!" He yelled, banking clumsily and narrowly avoiding a house. Snow spilled down onto the street as he flapped heavily, overcorrecting before leveling out. He looked back toward the earth pony, hoping he was unhitched and following.

Silverbolt heard the shouts of a monster at the reservoir and yelled to Lightning, "I heard that there is a monster at the reservoir! We need to go lend a hoof!". Silverbolt gritted his teeth and poured on the speed as he rushed towards the reservoir, fully awake now.

(OCC: Sorry about taking so long to post I got pulled into helping at a booth all weekend and got no time to do anything here)

The reservoir wasn't ward to find Page was just emptying his cart when he heard a commotion not to far off. Page looked over a drift and saw something to freeze his blood. A manticore was looming over a pony, and it seemed like it was ready for the kill. Page couldn't move, but as soon as he saw that it was Chaser in danger, he raced into action. There ware some pegasi flying in, and would probably be able to take care of the manticore, but they would have trouble getting there in time. With a quick flick of his hoof, Page undid the strap holding him to the cart and let it fall behind him, all while in there air. There was a moment where a though flickered through his head that he wished somepony had taken a picture, but that was quickly discarded as he felt his heart pounding. Time seemed to slow slow down as Page gave everything he could to get to his new friend in time. He could make it, he could make it....

She had to begrudgingly accept the help of the dentist, who hit the work with the proper amount of gusto. It made Apple Bloom feel a little off-put that some townsie could come in and push the wagon better than a dedicated orchard pony could, but then again, one was a mare and one was a filly so she guessed it made sense. Still, she couldn't deny that they were making awfully good time, Apple Bloom's form and focus combined with the size of the dentist and her own energy to enable them to make good on their promise to wrap winter up on time.

"Ah thank you mightily, Sunrahse," Apple Bloom said through another powerful grunt. Then, everything changed as word of the manticore flowed up and down the line, which was enough to get her tiny little legs to stop pumping.

"Wait a minute, did somepony say...MANTICORE?!"

Muggo' dipped his head as soon as he heard the pegasus coming in, expecting a blast of wind and snow. Instead, he heard the cries. Monster? Reservoir? He unhitched himself from the wagon, stuck his hat on his head, and thundered toward the reservoir, following Parhelion's path. A manticore? He knew of them, and knew he had to do something. He was almost as fast as a pegasus, his hooves thundering along the ground as he made his way to the reservoir. Sure enough, there one was, leering at a young blue mare with spiky hair. "Was ya born on a raft? Get out of there!" he roared to the mare. Years of working the bar had made it so that Muggo' Ale's voice could boom quite loud. "Get yer starn in gear! Move!" he added, charging the manticore down. It seemed fearless, but inside, Muggo' knew this was absolutely crazy. But something had to be done, and he was the closest at the moment.

If only his father could see him now. Heck, if only his mother could...a manticore at Winter Wrap Up. That would have surprised her.

Muggo's hoofsteps ended as he leaped through the air, slamming into the side of the manticore and at least taking it's attention away from Cloudchaser long enough for her to get away. He regained his footing, staring the monster down. "Come on then, b'y! When I'm done with ya, Celestia help ya!" he said, hoping the threat was enough to get it to back down. Likely not, but still, worth the try.

Page gasped as another pony appeared and ran into the manticore. While it distracted the manticore, it also kept Page from noticing where he was going, and he barreled into Chaser, knocking them both away a distance.

He quickly got up and gave a stuttering apology before turning around to see the fight. One pony wouldn't be able to do much to a manticore. Hopefully adding a pony with no idea what he was doing would at least keep things safe until the other ponies arrived. Hopefully Cloudchaser would be able to help. Page felt bad that he hadn't stopped to make sure she was all right, but the monster standing nearby made it hard to think logically.

Silver Mint

Silver Mint sighed as he trudged along the road. He had failed his audition up in Canterlot and was heading back home to Fillydelphia. His stomach muttered in discontent; he had eaten the last of his food that morning, and his empty saddle bag flopped lamely on his flank with every grudging step. Things wouldn't even be so bad if he didn't have all of this SNOW to trudge through. Honestly, it was almost spring-time, what kind of lazy ponies would leave all of the weather-work until the last minute? Silver Mint shook his head as he though to himself. It wasn't his place to judge.

He caught sight of a sign by the road that made him smile. "Welcome to Ponyville!" was spelled out in large, friendly letters. If this was a town, there was work to be done, bits to be made, food to be bought-- and eaten! Silver Mint winced as his stomach gave out a particularly loud roar of hunger. It took him a moment to realize, though, that it wasn't his stomach making that noise, it came from some distance away, near a large body of water. There were also the voices of startled ponies carried to his ears on the wind...

Without even thinking twice, Silver Mint dashed off towards the commotion. Not two minutes later, he found himself gawking at the scene he was looking over. A group of hodge-podge ponies wearing matching vests were struggling to fend of a rather large, and angry manticore. What was a manticore doing this far from the Everfree Forest??? There was no time to think. Silver Mint reached into his saddle bag for something to throw at the beast, before remembering that it was empty. As he did so, a stocky, green-coated pony with some obvious musculature rammed the manticore head-on. The beast was thrown off-balance, and stumbled onto the ice of the still-frozen resevoir. There was a loud "CRACK!!!" as numerous fissures appeared under the manticore's claws.

Inspiration hit Silver Mint like a train, before he even knew what he was doing, he ran to the edge of the ice, and picked up a hoof-ful of some of the remaining snow. He quickly fashioned a snowball, which he threw with all of his strength at the manticore. The ball of snow and ice hit home, nailing the manticore in its lion-faced snout, it roared and recoiled a few more steps, causing the ice under its feet to splinter into many more cracks.

"Hey!" Silver Mint shouted to the stocky, green pony and a rather slender, tan-coated pony nearby "Force it to the center of the ice! The ice is always the thinnest near the center!" he yelled as he whipped another snowball towards the beast.

Parhelion, winging indecisvely above the battle, hears Silver Mint's command, and it snaps him out of his daze. "Right! Center of the ice!" He dips one wing down near the manticore, tickling its nose. "Hey monster," she shouts, his voice breaking in fear. "C-come get your dinner!" He turns and begins flapping heavily backward, toward the ice, trying to stay in front of the manticore but out of its reach.

Dunder Blust was cooling off and flying around after the ordeal with Deep Bass's leg. He also remembered telling Hoss that Bass's leg would need to heal and he should probably go to the hospital, but Dunder knew it wasn't his choice to make. He let his legs and head dangle as he idly flew about around the reservoir areas of Ponyville. Before he heard some distant yelling and possibly a roar, he thought it was just some orders being shouted and he didn't care the reason for the roar. What caught his attention was a loud yell and a roar that was much closer and much more attention grabbing. Also, in a familiar accent with a familiar voice. Just by the tone of his voice, Dunder could tell something was wrong, he sped off in the direction.

When he saw what was going on, he paused and observed for a moment. He saw various ponies he didn't know and a friend, Moggo' Ale. To his second nature, Dunder drew his hardly-used-in-a-real-situation rapier. Dunder readied himself. He raised the sword over his head to make a cutting motion on the manticore's head with the blunted blade. Dunder started slowly flying towards the beast, his eyes locked on his target. He flew as fast as he could, the sword still over his head. As he passed by the manticore, he slashed downward on its face with the blunted blade. He made it past the manticore and turned around to watch what happened.

Silverbolt arrived on the scene, and hearing the suggestion to force it to the center of the ice and nodded. "Hey!", he shouted at the manticore as he dive bombed into the side of it with an outstretched hoof, knocking it along the ice a few feet. "Is everybody alright?", he asked.

Silver Mint

Silver Mint gave an audible "Whoop!" as the calvary arrived in the form of three Pegasus ponies who attacked the manticore in turn. One of them dove in with what appeared to be a very thin sword, whipping the manticore right on the snout. The second became a flying battering-ram and slammed into the beast, causing it to slide further towards the center. The third caught the beast's attention, luring it closer to the the middle of the resevoir.

The manticore roared in rage and pain, obviously confused and disoriented. The ice under its feet was starting to give way, the cracks in the ice were entirely visible now, and cold water was seeping up from underneath. "Perfect! Keep it up, everypony!" he called out encouragingly. The beast was out of range of his feeble snowballs, but he could make sure everyone stayed motivated!

The surface of the entire resevoir was cracking under the weight of the massive creature, just a bit more!!!

As she sat there in the freezing after with a manticore eyeing her, approaching her hungrily, Cloudchaser's mind was a little blank. She heard all kind of yelling and shouting from nearby, but she couldn't really make most of it out. That was until one pony, a green earth pony with a gray mane, came right up towards them.

"Was ya born on a raft? Get out of there! Get yer starn in gear! Move!"

The pony shouted in a booming voice with a cool accent. Chaser wanted to do as he said, but the whole manticore issue made her kind of a little hesitant to make any sudden movements. But then the pony did something that shocked her; he threw himself forcefully at the ferocious beast, giving Chaser enough time to take to her wings.

"Whoa, dude, that's..." Chaser started as she flew back, a little unsure how to even respond to such a display of reckless courage.

That was when, suddenly, a pony rammed right into her where she stood. After collecting herself, she realized it was Page Turner.

"Oh, hey Page? Did you come to rescue me?" she asked with a giggle.

But before Chaser could get an answer, another pony ran toward them and started throwing snowballs at the manticore, forcing it out onto the ice, which began to crack. Then three pegasi joined the rest, one of which had an actual sword which he used to cut the manticore's face!

"This is getting so awesome!" Chaser cheered, eyes wide as she watched the events unfold. Suddenly the earlier terror she had felt was worth it. She'd help out, but indication was that there were enough ponies on the job. She decided to just sit back and watch the show.

Wait...push the manticore to the centre of the reservoir? Would that even work? It had wings after all...but maybe the manticore hated water. If it didn't they might be in trouble...after all, the reservoir was, as far as he could tell, landlocked, and rapidly melting.

As he charged toward the reservoir, he saw a familiar grey pony. Dunder Blust, and using his rapier too! Now that was a sight.

But he had no time to stop and contemplate. Muggo' Ale was almost at the reservoir's edge. He jumped on, feeling the ice crack a bit more under his weight, but not as much as the manticore's. Still, in an effort to speed up the process of dunking the manticore in the reservoir, Muggo' ran right up to it when it was distracted by the other's snowballs, reared back, and slammed his front hooves onto the ice. The impact shattered a piece under the manticore's back left paw, causing it to dip into the ice cold water. Muggo' retreated a little in case the creature got angry and attacked him, and felt his own hoof slip into the water. He hopped back, landing on another piece of ice, then again, landing on the shore.

"Ya sure this'll work, b'y?" he shouted the question at the green earth pony that suggested it.

Silver Mint

"Ya sure this'll work, b'y?" shouted the large pony, leaping from an ice patch back to the shore.

Silver Mint shook his head, but followed the gray-maned pony's lead, shakily jumping from the shore to what few stable ice-islands remained. "I have no idea, actually. I'm just improvising!" he answered as honestly as he navigated his leaps towards the beast.

Silver Mint quickly learned that following a manticore out onto the failing surface of an iced-over resevoir was, in fact, not the best idea he'd ever had, but he felt the need to help the three Pegasi who were still holding the beast's attention. Silver Mint leapt from patch of ice to patch of ice, each time, leaving more and more splintering cracks where his hooves made contact with the ice. He made a final daring leap onto the large ice flow that still held the manticore, though it its integrity was failing fast.

As Silver Mint landed, his hooves lost traction on the slick ice, and he lost control of his speed and movement, desperately flailing to try and stay upright, he slid heavily into the side of the manticore, who was distracted with the Pegasi until he solidly rammed into it, knocking it sideways. As both Silver Mint and the Manticore tried to keep their balance, their many feet and hooves dancing heavily over the thin, thin, ice; there was a final massive sound of "Crrk. Crrk... CRUNCH!" as the ice shattered.

The manticore fell into the ice-cold water, letting out a roar of indignation and surprise. Utilizing its mighty wings, it heaved its cold, sopping wet body out from the lake and began flying away towards the Everfree forest. It let out a final, rather pitiful roar as it flew off, trying desperately to retain its dignity. Silver Mint found himself laying splayed-legged on his stomach on a small ice island that was bumpily drifting back to shore on the waves caused by the manticore's splash into the water. He was breathing heavily, the few minutes of danger and excitement catching up to him at last. He gathered his wits enough to begin paddling his small ice-float back to shore with his front hoofs.

Once ashore, Silver Mint shakily made his way onto the shore and looked back out at the resevoir. It appeared that the ice had been broken up into small enough pieces that they were starting to melt on their own, now. It certainly made the area feel less Winter-y. Wait a minute-- What had he been thinking? He had no business trying to take on a manticore like that! It was incredibly dangerous, he could have been seriously hurt-- or worse. The large pony's words still echoed in his head: "Ya sure this'll work, b'y?" If it had been that obvious Silver Mint didn't know what he was doing, he never would have done anything in the first place... his heart sank at the thought that he had put these other ponies, who he didn't even know, in harm's way due to his impulsive ideas. He felt his face go hot with embarrassment as he realized how foolishly he had acted.

"Is... is everypony alright?" he asked the group at large, still trying to catch his breath and calm down from the adrenaline rush he had just gone through.
