[Ponyville] Back To School [Ended]

That would do it. Surely. That little outburst must have some sort of response, some sort of anger, it MUST do. Staring at his doodles as he waited expectantly for the outburst of adult anger to come, he found himself disapointed yet again as a hoof rested on his shoulder and he shifted away from it with a sideways glare at the old mare.

Who did she think she was? Really WHO did she think she was!?

Trying to be his friend, trying to get to know him, he didn't want to KNOW anybody. He didn't want to know their troubles, what they liked for breakfast, what they were afraid of- well maybe he did want to know that for future references- but all around he didn't want to socialise with these stupid ponies! And she couldn't make him do that with them OR her.

Questioning him on what was really on his mind, there was a soft grumble that escaped the irritant youth. It wasn't scary that he was here, it was scary that he wasn't home. It was scary not being able to be strong and be the best.

Shrugging the teacher off, he muttered to himself and cointinued to scrawl over paper.

"Look lady, nothing's eating me up and certainly nothing I'm gonna share with you-"

A snap of his pencil silenced a lot of his thoughts, glancing at the desk quietly for a moment or two as everything seemed to take another form entirely. Everything became like a spirit, or something ghostly atleast, echoing as the halfed pencil rolled off the desk with a clatter before he realised where it'd gone.

Had he bitten that in half? He must have.

There was an odd taste of lead on his tongue, but he hadn't exactly registered it fully yet.

All he noticed was how tight his shoulders felt and suddenly how dry his eyes were and how his body was trying to compensate for that, blinking wildly to himself before he stared up at the teacher. What had she said?

...

Mother...what would his mother think?

Staring up at her for a moment or two with confused eyes, his head went over what his mother might've thought. It didn't hear the thoughts though. Not really. It had her images. It had her words. Her smile. Her kisses on his scraped knees and grazed cheeks. Her lullabies...her coughs.

Remaining silent for possibly the longest time in his head, it took much longer than he'd expected of himself to respond. And when he did, it came out like a damn breaking from a flood.

The world suddenly moved far too slow for him as he shoved all his items from his desk with a very violent clatter, brow creasing in a frown as he saw the sight go red infront of him. A buck against his chair made it topple as he abandoned his lunch box and belongings to glare at Cherilee, eyes glinting against the light as his voice strained with his yelling.

"You don't know ANYTHING! You don't know about me or-...or ANYTHING! YOU OLD NAG! I HATE YOU!"

That said and quite literally done as his voice began to crackle near the end, the little colt turned quickly on his heels and slammed open to the point the bolts shook and sped out of the door. Not sparing a second glance at the other little foals, Champ sped past the gate and probably back home as fast as his hooves would carry him.

Starlight meanwhile managed to avoid getting bowled over, hearing the yell from the colt from outside as he watched up from where he'd leapt and saw the blue blur heading away from the school house. Could he do that? What had gone on inside?

Frowning faintly in worry, he glanced back to the school house and creased his brow before looking back to the others.

"What do you think happened...?"

The teacher sat there on the floor next to Champ with her hoof on his shoulder as long as she dared, expecting a reaction. Soon enough, it would happen. Her gamble would bear fruit one way or another, but it had to be done. Sometimes a little hurt had to take place before the healing could. She trembled a bit in anticipation and even fear, at how he would react to the evocation of his mother. She didn't know where his mother was, or what happened to her, but most foals had a strong attachment to them and sometimes it was necessary to remind them of that even if they didn't want to admit it.

She'd opened the door. Champ just had to walk through it.

"Look lady, nothing's eating me up and certainly nothing I'm gonna share with you-" his words began, and she knew she'd ended up with the booby prize. That wasn't what she had hoped for, but at the same time what she expected was going to happen. This cut hadn't scabbed over, it had partially scarred and had come open. Too open. This wasn't going to end pretty either way. But she had to try.

But even as the words hung in the air, she knew something still was wrong. There wasn't just a little something wrong, there was a lot of something wrong. Her hoof pulled away as the pencil snapped, her ears folding back as that defiant growl heralded the words that were about to come. Oh yes, she'd gambled and now she was about to recieve for better or worse, its payoff.

Cheerilee winced as the torrent of anger came pouring out all at once, all the resentment, all the hate bottled up in one instant exploding forward. She'd rather it come at her than at her students, at the very least she'd given him that, but she had to take it. She'd asked for it. As he screamed his words at her before making his desk a shambles in his eruption. She stared at the door as it shook on its hinges. She could see her shocked students outside on the ground as Champ sped away from the schoolhouse. Several moments passed before she choked back a sob, then stood and began reassembling the shambles of her classroom. Carefully and calmly, she collected Champ's discarded things and deposited them beside her desk. His half-bitten pencil she picked up and moved to dispose of it...then changed her mind and thought better of it.

"Oh, dear." Cheerilee softly said to herself.

The half-bitten pencil took a place on the corner of her desk and she sat behind it, staring at the pencil for several moments. What had she done? She'd quite thoroughly overstepped her bounds on her student, that's what she'd done. She would be lucky if Champ's father wouldn't come storming to school later to berate her for having dared attempt such a thing with his colt. But...she wasn't even sure that was going to happen. Champ's father had seemed like such a nice stallion who'd wanted the best for his son, and she'd promised she'd try her best to give Champ everything she could. Cheerilee didn't know what she was going to do, as she stared at the broken pencil on her desk. It wasn't the first time she would have failed to reach a student and it likely wouldn't be the last; but still, she was going to try.

While she still had some time for recess, she took a piece of parchment out of her drawer and a fresh pencil of her favorite color and began to write a letter to Champ's father.

Dear Mr. Oakhoof,

I'm afraid that things are much worse than we thought. Today, I'm afraid I reached a point with Champ I expected but preferred never happen. But unfortunately, it did. In my attempt to reach him, I evidently said the wrong thing which caused a painful outburst, and as you know, Champ left the school of his own will. I have his things and will keep them until either you or he choose to pick them up from here. I am profoundly sorry for the turn of events, but I still will not give up on him. I would dearly like to talk more and learn what it is that has shaken him so. I failed him today, but I will not give up on him. Come see me when it is most convenient for you, and we may discuss where we may go from here. Champ is still welcome at my school and I would love to see his return as soon as he can. We may still work through this yet.

I offered him the alternatives we discussed during his enrollment. Those offers are still available. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Miss Cheerilee.

With that, she stood and walked slowly towards the door. There was a slight wobble in her step that faded with each passing moment until she reached the door and took a deep breath of the fresh air outside. The sunlight streamed in and she straightened up in view of her students. Carefully, she deposited the letter in the outgoing mailbox and raised its flag.

"Students, lunch break is over, please come back inside!" Cheerilee called, storing away her grief for the moment and turning a cheery face to the foals playing outside.

Ding! Ding! Ding! went the schoolbell.

Sweetie Belle was nervous about the foal from the roof, but by the time her little legs carried her over to the corner, she was already gone, with Miss Cheerilee looking sadly off in her direction.

Worried, Sweetie Belle trotted back to her friends old and new, and smiled to them, talked merrily with them, trying to steer the conversation in their direction. Where had Sunrise come from with that lovely and exciting accent? How did Starlight come to live with his aunt, and he must have to brush his teeth extra-careful to make her happy! It was so nice to see Twist again, and what kind of candies had she learned to make over the summer? And Scootaloo had done such a wonderful job with her speech! And Grim, he was so nice to her, and he must be so smart, with all his reading and writing! Would he help her with her homework?

Over the lunch period, she calmed down, though that spectre of public speaking still hovered nervously behind her. She grew comfortable chatting with everyone - any of them, or even all of them, she could talk with merrily, cheerfully. She could even sing for them if the music came to her... but as soon as it was formalized, she didn't understand it - she couldn't think of them as ponies anymore, just ... The Crowd. The Scary Crowd.

But she didn't have to worry about that, because everything was OK.

The voices from inside, though... she couldn't hear Miss Cheerilee's voice, but she kept hearing Champ's voice raising, in anger, and in pain. She glanced over at the schoolhouse worriedly, a little distracted, and then *jumped!* as she heard the crashing of furniture being thrown over and wrecked! "Oh, my," she murmured, and then jumped out of the way as Champ came running out of the school.

She blinked. That big sometimes mean colt had a face that looked... well, she hadn't seen any tears, but it sure looked like a face that was about to do some crying... what was wrong? Miss Cheerilee wouldn't do anything to make a foal cry... she was too nice. Which meant something else was wrong...

And then Miss Cheerilee was calling everyone into the classroom. wasn't she going to go help Champ? As the other little ponies filed on back into the classroom, Sweetie Belle lagged behind, looking worriedly in the direction that Champ had run.

Twist leaped back in surprise as Champ ran by, staring after the colt with wide eyes. Oh, she had heard the outburst from inside all right.

Oh, this was a strange day all right.

She looked over at Starlight with a sigh, shaking her head slowly.

"I... I dunno. But Miss Cheerilee'll know what to do." Twist was confused, though; having heard the final outburst, and seen that, it was somehow harder to think of Champ as just a nasty foal like Diamond Tiara.

She was also quickly proven wrong - it didn't seem like Cheerilee was going to go retrieve him. That was even weirder!

Twist headed inside with her new friends, head slightly lowered and ears slightly back in thought. The day had taken a turn she didn't like, and she wasn't sure how to handle that.

Maxie shuffles for a short distance, limping and wincing. She manages to make it around the school, hide against the wall, and begin to shuffle gingerly forward, attempting to make it to the road. She grows increasingly wobbly, swallowing hard and straining harder with her horn, broken, it is not particularly efficient at the tasks she asks of it. "Come on.. Maxie, just.. Walking. You can do this. It's not even trotting. Walking, walking." she perks at the loud crash her horn fizzle and she yeeps, stumbling several more feet in intense pain. She regains her focus as quickly as possible, looking about for the source of the ruckus, only to spot some sort of doofy, teal ... aqua maybe? pony with bad hair, fleeing. She shrugs and continues her progression, slowly. "Waaaaaalking. Walking. Shuffling." She makes it a few meters, before her horn fizzles again. She grits her teeth, surpressing cries, before immediately flumping over onto her side by the road, exhausted. "Falling! ... laying. Pain. Possibly bleeding. Resting. This is not your finest hour Maxie."

She takes stock of her state. Both rear legs are in terrible pain, especially near the hooves and flank. Her left flank is also in awful pain, she must have landed on her dice. Have to take care of that later. She just had to get home. Somehow. She was a smart foal, she could figure this out, definitely! She lays there, in the grass, staring blankly as her mind runs over her predicament. Eventually, she buries her face in her hoofies and while muffled, slurs out something incredibly inappropriate for a small pony to shout like that. She looks out at the road, eyes watering. She then sucks it up, because she was NOT weak! She was strong! Crying was for people who needed help and it doesn't do her any good anyway.

She squirms weakly, questioning her choice of apparel. A black cloak soaks up heat at an impressive rate. She is hot. Unpleasantly hot. That's okay, the sun will go down eventually. She turns her head to look back, but the stupid hood is in the way. She pulls it down, revealing her filthy face and unkempt mane. She is very pretty, but she is an expert at pretending not to be. She is unsure when the compulsion first started, she used to revel in her appearance, being pretty was wonderful to her before. Now, she can't even look at her reflection without working her mane over her horn and a significant amount of dirtiness about her. She wanted to be boyish, but she doesn't know why, perhaps she sees boys as strong and her desire to be strong influences the way she wants to view herself? Naw, that couldn't possibly be it. "Ugh... What I wouldn't give for a cool berry juice... I'll have to ask for one when I get back." she comments to herself, the heat and the injuries getting to her.

Dynatherms connected, pony fantasies are go. She waves a hoof gently and giggles as her world shifts, sci-fi this time. Robots! Heroes! Giant monsters yay. In the command center, watching the stars roll by, ship flying at impossible speeds, its magiscience thrusters leaving glorious twinkling trails through space. Maaan, so cool, the thought of of having metal things to travel in that weren't pony powered. Who knows what's out there, planets, stars, maybe even space ponies! Power to the forward shield, pony bots in the hangar, ready to ready to form up if danger should appear. Maxie mumbles to herself, deliriously narrating the events of her fantasy under her breath. An exciting and enticing story, filled with action, invention, magic beams! EXPLOSIONS! It's just great.

This was turning into such a strange day! But over and above that, one thing stood out in Sunrise Beach's mind - how friendly the students seemed to be. One already came up to her offering candy, and two others just to say hi. Sunrise smiled at the white Pegasus with the rainbow streak in his mane, he may have been the youngest foal of the bunch, certainly the smallest, and without a doubt the cutest. He also seemed friendly, "Like, hello, my name is Sunrise Beach; what's yours?" she beamed.

Sadly, the pleasantries were short lived. Sunrise gasped as she watched the unusual foal on top of the school slip and tumble down the far side of the schoolhouse in what she hoped was a soft landing - but how likely would that be, really? The tall purple mare, no doubt the teacher, ran around the corner, with a little white unicorn foal chasing after her. They both returned a few seconds later, looking nervous and forlorn. She can't be that hurt, otherwise, like, teacher wouldn't just walk back. What happened?? Sunrise felt confused by the whole situation - as did the other ponies. But nopony did anything about it - maybe this stranger was usually like that, around here; maybe this was normal for them. Sunrise felt uneasy with it all - she wasn't sure if she liked the situation; shuffling her front hooves, she wondered if things were better back at Roughrider ... at least her mom was there.

The next thing she knew, yet another foal came bursting out of the school and running past. He was a remarkably large and athletic foal that looked really upset, but wasn't crying or anything, just angry and all wound up. Like, what in Equestria happened in there?? Sunrise only felt more confused by the growing disruptions, unable to answer any of the other foals' questions of what was going on. The school bell rang as the instructor called everyone back inside and the other foals slowly began to enter. Sunrise though, wasn't nearly as sure about going in that school now, lagging behind along with the little worried-looking white unicorn. All the weird things she had just witnessed was rather unsettling. She had been nervous but ready for a normal school day - this was too much.

She hesitated ... still wondering about that mysterious pony on the roof ... glancing around quickly, and seeing that no one would see her leave except that worried-looking white unicorn, she quickly ducked around the corner to the far side of the school building. Now she understood why the others had come back looking confused - she didn't see anything. She must have totally wandered off, but where? She looked about, and didn't see anyone in the open field beyond, like, where did they go?

Sunrise was at a crossroads of sorts. She should be in school with the rest of the class, but her adventurous, independent spirit was calling to her to search for the stranger, to find out what she was all about. It isn't like I am ditching school; I haven't started yet Was that enough justification? Her mom did go through all that effort for her to be here, and Sunrise certainly didn't want to disappoint, but ... What if she is hurt? Like bad? I can't just go back without knowing! With that excuse, she ran around the school building, spotting the cloaked figure laying on the road ahead of her.

Running rather fast for a foal, Sunrise quickly covered the distance to the stranger and stopped, letting out a small gasp. The stranger, it turned out, was another unicorn filly, like her, just white with a stunning, if messy purple mane. "Umm.. Like are you alright? Do you need a doctor? Like, you don't look so good. Oh no! Did you break your horn? We need to get you help!"

Grim was just lost in all that had taken place, he honestly could picture his eyes spinning around in confusion. First the issues in the classroom, then the stranger on the roof, then being sent outside, only to see Champ run off not long after. What was going on? He was starting to think he should have stayed home that day. At least he'd met a couple friendly foals, and got to help Sweetie Belle, even if that meant he was now on Champ's list.

When they were called back inside he sighed and got up to return to class. For a moment he paused, seeing the newest member of the class go off in another direction. He wanted to ask Sunrise where she was going but didn't really get the chance. Grim could follow her, but then he'd be skipping class as well, and he didn't want to do that. Especially if he already had a warning.

So taking a deep breath and letting out another sigh, he just moved back into the school house and took his seat. He looked to his saddle bag, still in place since he never took it off. Scribe was tucked away in one side of it, and Grim kind of wanted to take him out. However he hadn't been able to ask about having his writing assistant in class yet, so he just let it go. With all that had happened, surely Ms. Cheerilee didn't want to think about a spider at the moment.

'This has been such a busy morning... and we didn't even learn anything,' he mumbled to himself.

Maxie grins rather blankly, staring at nothing in particular as the filly approaches her. Still lost in her own little world, she mumbles quietly to herself, quickly, difficult to understand. She does seem to be quite enjoying herself however. The delirium seems to be quite intense, as she is not in the best of shape but appears to feel perfectly fine. Her ears quirk slightly as something interrupts her fantasy, and she returns to reality amidst a wash of pain, heat and numbness. Her back legs felt like they were burning up, ugh. She quickly becomes away of a concerned citizen going a little bonkers over her current condition. Well this was the last thing she needed, she's probably going to have all sorts of questions asked that she will have to be evasive and/or downright lie about to everypony's face.

Now, what has been said to her? Her mind rolls over the excitable girl's questions. "What? No.. No I'm fine. I don't need a doctor. I always look like this." she perks and smooths the forelock of her mane down over her horns, blushing furiously. "There is nothing wrong with my horn. It's fine. I don't need any help.. I'm just.. resting here. I like baking in the hot hot sun. Honest, it's very relaxing." she replies quietly and with the most convincing conviction she can muster in her b..bedr... messed up state. In between panting and oncoming drymouth it probably isn't very convincing, especially when combined with her very specific denial. Her tail flicks gently under her cloak and she grumps irritably. "So if you don't mind. Could you let me get back to my... Err.. My sunning, please?"

Sunrise was taken aback by the unicorn's response. Clearly she was not fine, and they both knew it. Sunrise didn't know if it was pride or just craziness that was motivating the obviously hurt unicorn to spur her offer of help, and she didn't care - she wasn't going to leave another foal on the side of the road like so many did to unfortunate vagrant souls one would see on the dusty trails over in Roughrider. At least she was blushing, which probably meant she wasn't mad for anything, just embarrassed.

"Like, well, I am not going to just, like, leave you here!" With that, Sunrise showed what one little athletic foal can do when she grabbed the cloak with her teeth and proceeded to drag the injured white unicorn to the shade of the nearby tree, Like, don't care how much she protests, totally not leaving her in the sun! It may have taken a few minutes and an awful lot of effort for the foal, but she managed to get them both under the tree. "Now, like, I swear I will be right back, I am going to get you some help, I totally promise I'll be gone for only, like, a minute!", and with that she started to run towards the schoolhouse.

Reaching the schoolhouse, Sunrise burst right in. She knew this would cause a disruption, but what choice does she have? "Miss ... Miss, umm ...", Sunrise had to think really hard on this - Mrs. Cozy definitely told her the teacher's name, and it was getting embarrassing that she was starting to look dumb here, "ummm.. CHEERLIE, MISS CHEERLIE!" That had to get her attention now "pleasehelpthereisan injusredunicornoverlikebythetree!" Sunrise yelled as she frantically pointed a hoof back outside.

Minimaxie grumps and squirms about as she is addressed and scolded. Stupid pony. Not her mom. "Gah. Hey. No, put me down you!" she glares, scrunching up her jaw as she is drug off. Ow, ow. Unpleasant. Very unpleasant. She glares at the little greenish foal grumpily, but has no real say in the matter at this point. It's not like she can FORCE the girl to let go. She can however, be very, very pouty and ungrateful about it! This is exactly what she does. She digs a hoof against the ground as she is drug toward the tree, making it just a bit more difficult than it has to be to transport her off into the shade.

She stares blankly at Sunrise as the girl promises to be back shortly, and grumpily sticks her tongue out as the foal hurries off back to the school. Great, just great, now people were going to be mad at her for getting herself injured. Having random people scold her was the last thing she needed. She was tough, she got up there, she could get down on her own. It's that little brat's fault that she fell, whoever he was. Maybe that aqua pony that blew up and ran off? She would have her revenge! No-one disrespects her monologue. They are incredibly crucial to the entire act! She is a card carrying villain! ... In her mind.

She is painfully aware that she doesn't have any real power, but the illusion that she does helps her cope with being separated from people who are very important to her. She didn't know anyone here, and while it would be wonderful to make friends, every person she grows attached to makes it more difficult for her to imagine seeing her family again. She is struggling to maintain a tenuous balance between her relationships here and her desire to go home. It was proving to be almost impossible. She has a checklist that she keeps of how to get home.

She's lost her horn, and she doesn't even know which direction home IS, so it is difficult. Step One: Recover horn. Step Two: learn some magic, or to read maps... Step Three: Remember what her home was LIKE in more than a vague way. From the outside instead of the inside. Knowing what color the walls were is not going to help her. Her memories are foggy and indistinguishable. But she remembers them, her sister, her mother, her father? Were they looking for her? They must have been at one point even if they aren't now.. If only she'd gone to that school like they wanted this never would have happened. She still doesn't know how she even ended up somewhere else in the first place. Oh if only she'd just given in and tried to be happy. She still would have seen them occasionally!

Cheerilee waited until her students returned to their desks, though there were still a few empty seats left. Including the one right at the front of the class, which made her nearly falter as she looked over them. She forced herself to take a breath a moment, still somewhat shaken from the events that had just taken place just shortly before, but for the sake of her students they had to move on. The teacher picked up a small pointer and telescoped it, pulling down a rolled-up map over the blackboard. It took a few moments for the little ponies, but she took the opportunity to tell her still rapidly-beating heart to settle itself down. When they had quieted down, she began to speak.

"Now, class, all of you I'm sure know some of your basic geography, but today we're going to learn a little bit about the world around us, including areas you may never have known existed. I'm sure all of you are aware that we share Equestria not just with many different kinds of ponies, but also other creatures like dragons and griffons. Our Princess Celestia keeps relations with these other creatures civil, and it's through this peace we've been able to explore our borders as much as we have." she pointed at a spot on the map. "Here, we have Ponyville. And here, is the castle of Canterlot." she indicated the appropriate region on her map. "But you'll notice there's a vast amount of area around these two little places that aren't much more than dots on our map. Now, can any..."

Suddenly there was the interruption outside of her classroom.

The teacher sighed "What now?" she said to herself. "Wait one moment, we'll come back to this. All of you little ponies, please stay in your seats, I will be right back." she set the pointer down on her desk and cantered to the front door. Opening it, she found nothing, though after she peeked around the corner, she discovered Sunrise and the strange little unicorn that had been on her school roof just a little time before. "Goodness, what is going on here? Where did you find her?" she dashed over to Maxie. "You poor little thing, you need some help right away. Quick, help me get her inside until we can get help for her!" she called back into the classroom. "I need a couple of able-bodied students to help out here, please come. Not the whole school, just two of you will be fine." meanwhile, she flagged down a nearby passing pony and called out to have the nurse pony show up. She was surprised the fire department ponies hadn't shown up by now, but she'd forgotten in the excitement, they'd probably been told by a pegasus who'd gone to fetch them that everything was okay.

This was turning out to be likely one of the busiest days Cheerilee had ever had! She couldn't believe all the events that had taken place. Oh, was she going to settle back with a nice hot cup of chamomile tea and maybe a few rose petal cupcakes tonight. She definitely deserved it. Maybe a nice, long soak in a hot bath would help, too. As much as she loved her little ponies, her students were so much work! She wondered if she'd be able to find help, with all these new students. And all of these thoughts ran through her mind like a thundering herd of stampeding ponies as they raced around her mind. She was actually looking forward to getting back to the Geography lesson to take her mind off the events. And this strange little broken-horned unicorn. And the little blue unicorn who'd fetched her, too. They both should be in school. Why were there always so many little ponies that seemed to avoid class? Surely it wasn't because her lessons were boring?

And in all of this, she'd forgotten Sweetie Belle had managed to completely skip out on her oral presentation of what she'd done over the summer.

Watching everyone head inside, Starlight moved to follow, if a little held up by the newest of the students here going off around the side of the school to follow that other weird little unicorn. And as much as he would've liked to followed, that little nagging thought in his head came apparent as he moved instead to drag himself up the stairs and into the school house.

Stairs. Devilish stairs.

Looking up the length abd bredth of them, he moved to try and waddle himself up them one by one and as he reached the top, he had to try and pat himself on the back for his achievement. The stairs were a big hur-

A blur of turquoise ran past him and sent him tumbling down to the first step with a wide eye'd blink, what...just happened? Blinking from where he lay, he stared up and tried to wiggle himself back onto his hooves. Peering at the unicorn curiously talking worriedly to miss Cheerilee before he scrambled up the steps once more.

Another scrabble of limbs, a little wiggle of tooshy and he made his way back inside...just as miss Cheerilee made her way out.

Where was she going?

Blinking, there was a peculiar look of curiousity on his face as he sat on the top step and watched...the teacher going.

"But I don't want to go to school!" A little yellow filly protested as she was escorted to school, "Nonsense, you have to go to school. Now hurry up, you're already late." Her mother told her as she rushed the filly out of the door. Sunnydew groaned, "School is completely useless. I have my cutie mark already, can't I just skip school and work on my garden?" She pleaded, but her mother would have none of it, "I'm sorry, but all fillies need to go to school, regardless if they have their cutie marks or not." Her mother scolded. Sunnydew sighed, "Yes, Mom..." And walked off to school as if she was walking to her doom. Then again, that's exactly what Sunnydew felt like. Her mother shook her head at her daughter's obstinance. Sunnydew has always been a bit spoiled and hard to deal with, but ever since she got her cutie mark, she's been more and more difficult.

Sunnydew walked to school at a snail's pace, obviously not wanting to get there. She had hid and ran from her parents, in hopes of not having to go to school. But inevitably, her parents found her and told her she had to go to school. But Sunnydew made sure that if she had to go to school, she would look her best, so that made her even more late than she already was. Sunnydew wanted nothing more than to stay at home and garden, but instead she had to go to that stupid school with those stupid foals and that stupid teacher in that stupid schoolhouse. It was all just... Stupid.

She finally made it to the schoolhouse, when she noticed Ms. Cheerilee in a panic around some foal she didn't know. She was calling into the classroom for help, and it looked like a lot of commotion. She took advantage of the distraction and hurried into class, and into an empty seat in the classroom. She looked around at the class, seeing some recognizable faces like Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle, but she saw some new faces as well. She made a mental note of the newer foals as she laid her head on her hooves apathetically and stared blankly out the window.

Sweetie Belle sighed and turned back to the classroom, letting Champ run off. She'd have to see if she could help him, later, but right now she had to go back to class and -

Oh no. Speak in front of the class. That thought nearly had her turn around and run off again, but she perservered... her hooves dragging slower and slower as she reached her seat and lowered her chin onto the desk. *sigh*

But she perked up again as Miss Cheerilee started a geography lesson! Yay! She didn't have to speak, after all! Instead, she perked up, pulling out a sheet of paper and then taking her pencil in her mouth to carefully take notes before...

What WAS it with today and all the wierd stuff happening! She looked around ... well ... without Miss Cheerilee here, they might as well talk. She leaned over to Scootaloo in the next seat over. "Pssst," she said, "What's the plan for after school? Cutie Mark Ice Cream Eaters, maybe? Or Cutie Mark jewelry makers?"

Purple Haze sighed, her pencil shifting in her mouth as she doodled in the borders of her notes. Little rows of carrots decorated the lined paper, and stick-ponies, and little scribbled notes of new dishes to try. Why did she need to go to school? It was so booooooring, and she was never going to use all this stuff! Why did she need to know where Canterlot was? That's what maps were for, and besides, she could just take the train there! She'd so much rather be back on the farm, or in the marketplace, or cooking dishes, or trying to make new friends, or, or, or SOMETHING!

She could still taste the carrot casserole from lunch ... it needed a little more ... some ... she wasn't sure what. Maybe mushrooms? Maybe garlic? She wasn't sure! She wanted to try baking up a new batch! But she was stuck here, in school! *siiiigh* She sprawled across the top of her desk, groaning at how BOOOOOOORing it was! Especially since the teacher wasn't even here!

"Ach, if she dinnae get back in fifteen minutes, we kin hie outta here, roight? That's th' rules, innae?" she asked no one in particular.

"You okay, Starlight?"

Twist kept close to Starlight as he made his way back up the stairs after his tumble. It was cute! Once they were both safely in, she trotted to her desk. She was curious and a little worried about the unicorn filly, and - she had to admit it - that nasty little colt, but it was time to settle in.

The geography was familiar to her, but, well, it was only the first day. Twist was half-tuned out when the unicorn reappeared, now with Sunrise. And then the teacher was gone again! Twist watched Cheerill go with bemusement, ears flickering, before looking over at the purple filly with the strange accent.

"Um... I never heard of that rule."

Sunnydew wondered why Cherilee hadn't come back by now, but she didn't really care. No teacher means no lesson, which means more free time. So she pulled out her notebook and started to doodle random flowers and things. While doodling, she listened in on the other foals' conversations. She heard Sweetie Belle suggest some ideas for getting their cutie marks. Dumb Cutie Mark Crusaders... She doodled a little bit more before leaning towards Sweetie Belle,

"How about Cutie Mark mimes? That way, I won't have to hear you blabber on about your stupid plans."

She berated them, as she did from time to time. She leaned back to her seat and acted like what she said was normal, and not mean at all.

Offering a small embarassed smile to Twist, the little foal shuffled his way in with a small smile whilst everything was going on outside, but atleast everything was starting to calm down inside. He may have missed a little of the geography lesson, but he was catching up a lot and trotted in with the creme candy giving filly. Noticing the sunny yellow one that'd come in too...

Once sat at his desk after a further bit of scrambling, the foal watched the others converse and such, especially the cutie mark crusaders as they talked about possible ideas for their cutie mark adventures. And as they spoke, he couldn't help but think of the adventures he could go on, soaring over mountains, swooping under trees.

Like a true pegasi.

Then that sunny golden filly spoke up and a faint frown came to his tiny brow, mimes? That wasn't very nice! Puffing out his cheeks, he stood himself up on his chair and glared as fiercely as he could -which wasn't really that fierc- at Sunny.

"Hey!" He bleated. "That isn't very nice!"

Sunnydew looked to Starlight, and scoffed. She couldn't believe a little guy like him was standing up for them to her. It didn't matter, she wasn't afraid of some wimp like him.

"I don't care that it's not nice. It's true; their dumb plans are so annoying to listen to." She said as she stuck her tongue out at him, "Besides, who's gonna stop me? You? Don't make me laugh, pipsqueak!" She teased, pointing a hoof at him while shooting him a glare.

She turned her nasty look to Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, before returning it back to Starlight. She could take anything this little pegasus could throw at her.

He thought that they were finally getting back to class, but then somepony needed help and the teacher was off again. Grim just sighed and put his head down on his desk. The lesson sounded like it was going to be interesting too. He probably could have pointed out his hometown on the map even.

As others started talking he just kept his head down. Well, until an argument started up. He wasn't one to get into the middle of these types of things. In fact if it didn't involved him, Grim usually just ignored what was going on around him. That proved to be different that day though, as he already took a spit wad shot for Sweetie Belle.

'Well then plug your ears,' he glanced over to the pony complaining about what Scoots and Sweetie were talking about. 'They can talk about what they want to, and you can ignore it or choose to listen. So if it's so bothersome, plug your ears. You got two front hooves don't you? Shove them in.' He then covered his own ears as if to demonstrate for a moment.

'What am I doing?' mentally the quiet foal cringed. 'it must just be this day. It's been nothing but weird.'

(( Sorry about that! I'll make my future posts longer! ))

Sunnydew was going to say something else to them, like a victory lap except made out of insults. Yeah, that'll show them. That was until she was interrupted by Grim. She shot her glare at him as well.

"Well, I have just as much right to not be annoyed, don't I?" She retorted to him, "So if they annoy me, I should just shove them in?" She got up into his face, "Well, you're not part of this argument, so how about you take one of your hooves and shove that in! So I won't have to hear your stupid voice either?" She chided at him, her higher-pitched voice squeaking a bit, making her anger obvious, "And you too!" She yelled at Starlight, "You're all just so stupid! This whole place is stupid!"

Sunnydew huffed and turned around in her desk, so that she was facing the wall, her back to the others. She didn't care about those stupid stupids; they were just stupid, "Dumb stupid jerks..." She muttered under breath. In the mostly quiet classroom, it could still be heard easily by everypony around her. She folded her arms on her desk and buried her chin on them, her angry little eyes glancing back at Grim and the others.

If he hadn't have jumped in, she would have kept at it. A fight between her and the Cutie Mark Crusaders? No problem. A fight between her and that little pegasus? No problem still. But a fight between a colt who was bigger than her? That was a problem she didn't want to mess with unless she had to, which she would if they kept at it.

Sweetie Belle let out a soft 'harrumph' and stuck her tongue out at Sunnydew. "Just cause you can't stand ponies to have fun." She smiled warmly to Starlight and Grim. "Thank you guys, you're *so sweet* to stand up for us!" She reached over to ruffle Starlight's mane fondly, then trotted up to Grim to give him a lil' kiss on the cheek. *^_^*

Purple-Haze-Banner.png

Purple Haze groaned softly. School was bad enough when something *was* happening, much less when nothing was happening! There was so much out there in the world to do! Why did she need to wait around here! Except her big brother would be angry if she didn't.

She sighed and tried making notes on recipe ideas, but there was only solong that could hold her. "Oye!" she said, perking up her head. "Any ye lads er lasses up fer a game ah paper hoofball while we wait?" She took a sheet of paper and started folding it into a little triangle.

Wincing at the harsh response, the foal backed up slightly on his chair whilst watching Sunnydew and felt his frown sour ever so slightly before it broke a little at the pipsqueak comment. He wasn't that small...

Scuffing his hoof he tried to stare the filly down as best as he could, despite the wane in his nerve before Grim saved his hide by piping himself up. A soft, relieved smile split the little foal's muzzle as he looked to the taller colt and the mean filly seemed to take that and pout to herself.

What was with all the meany-face ponies today? First that Champ and then the roof top pony and now this pony. All such sour pusses.

Once that was settled, the tiny pegasi let out a soft giggle as his forelock was mussed up and smiled to himself and to Sweetie Belle, his attention soon distracted yet again however as Purple mentioned hoofball.

He'd never been one for sports, being so small, it was easy for him to get nearly stepped on by bigger or distracted ponies, so ofcourse he maintained to keep himself out of many as possible.

"How do you play?"

At first Sunrise Paradise just stood there in the classroom after the teacher, Miss. Cheerlie, went outside to get help for the stranded and strange unicorn outside.  The aquamarine foal just felt embarrassed about it all - she'd disrupted class, and she felt like all the other students were staring at her. She blushed and softly mumbled, "Ahem ... sorry."  Except, foals being foals, they quickly went back to talking among themselves.

Some of them were anyway - it seemed more like arguing and griping among themselves.  It was the first time she actually got to observe the entire class - her first day in a new town, a new school. She just sort of stood there in the back by the door as she watched some yellow filly with a sunflower cutie mark do her best to alienate herself from the rest of the class when she sniped at the friendly white unicorn Sunrise remembered from outside, who was chatting friendly-like with an orange Pegasus.  That argument didn't go over well as it seemed everyone sniped back at the yellow filly, who responded by moving her desk to look the other way.  Like, what is her *problem* and junk? I'll totally just avoid her.

At least they weren't all focusing on her. She wanted to meet them, but it was so much easier to meet new foals when playing sports...

At least they weren't all focusing on her. She wanted to meet them, but it was so much easier to meet new foals when playing sports... She looked around for someplace to sit. She wanted to sit by the friendly white unicorn - Sweetie Belle? - whom everypony seemed to want to defend, but she already seemed surrounded by ponies who knew her. The orange Pegasus looked like she was a best buddy, but other than that, Sunrise couldn't tell anything about her other than both her and the white unicorn didn't have cutie marks, which was strange at their age. Like, she seems totally popular, and nice. Wonder if she plays sports? Prolly not, she looks more like a cheerleader.  Popular indeed. Sunrise smiled as Sweetie Belle kissed a dark gray colt near her who had, Sunrise guessed, an ink bottle and quill mark, from what was showing on his saddlebags. Awww, he must totally be her coltfriend, and junk! Lucky lil' geek..

She recognized two others. One was the tiny white pegasus with the soft rainbow streak who didn't have a cutie mark either, although he was probably the youngest. The other was the friendly earth pony with the glasses and candy ... Sunrise struggled with their names too. Starlight and umm, something Twist. Like, what was her name?  Cinnamon Twist, Candy Twist.. Horsefeathers, I already forgot! She was so bad with names, there were so many of them she had to remember all the time!

That discouraging thought though was quickly broken when the green and purple earth pony with the strange accent suddenly brought up the topic of hoofball.  Sunrise lit up!  Smiling and trotting over to the greenish pony, whom she hoped was friendly, she happily chirped, "Like, I totally love playing Hoofball!  Even paper hoofball!  Like, do you play the sport too?"  Excited, she held out her forehoof, though she'd forgotten to say her name.

Cheerilee returned inside after finally arranging for help for the strange little filly, ensuring she'd been taken off to Nurse Redheart's place for proper care and treatment. She hoped the poor thing would be alright, but she was in better hooves now than she had been earlier. Perhaps they'd find out who her parents were or where she belonged. And then perhaps she'd return to school. When the teacher entered the classroom, she gasped in shock at the sheer pandemonium that had ensued. "Class! Settle down this instant!" she called out as she marched back to the front of the room.

She'd arrived just a few moments too late for the little paper hoofball game, though chances were if she'd seen it, she might have had some other ideas for the athletics team. The Gympony would likely have a great time with some of these youngsters and their energy.

"Order, I said! All of you settle down and take your seats!" she was firmer than she'd have liked, but today had been so incredibly trying that she very nearly lost her patience. Very nearly, that is, but she managed to keep some measure of control through herculean effort. While she waited for the class to finally return to their seats, she looked around at her students. A couple of new faces that had arrived perhaps during the commotion.

There was a new little yellow filly sitting in the midst of her students. That one seemed to be almost as much trouble as she was brightly colored, but this one she resolved not to single out. Not after that incident with Champ. And besides, she wasn't being disruptive, she was just being pouty and sullen. Probably from her first day at this school. She'd talk to her later, maybe, and welcome her properly with the others. But Starlight, the brave little dear, was standing up to her. Sadly, she'd have to say something and she hoped he wouldn't take it the wrong way, but...

"Starlight! Take your seat, please!" she called out to him, a little firmly but still gently. "And now, class, there will be no more interruptions for the remainder of the day. We only have one last lesson to finish up before school lets out for the day, and you can all go home and digest the knowledge I've given your little pony minds for today. But first, where was I. Oh yes, everypony knows where Ponyville is on the map here, right?" she trotted back to her desk and picked up her pointer, before she scanned over the students in her classroom. Ah, another new filly. The class certainly was full of girls this year! This one was a dark, almost hunter green with a bronze and maroon two-tone mane. That must be Purple Haze, whom, she gathered, had just finished making a little paper hoofball. Oh, these ponies and their class games...but there'd be plenty time for that later, she felt.

And Sunrise Beach, a smaller near-turquoise filly. Her mother had written her a very sweet letter, sent all the way from Appleoosa! Cheerilee thought that maybe a nice field trip there one day would be an excellent lesson for these young ponies. Those who had never been out of Ponyville would have an excellent learning experience, and those who had would broaden their horizons even more. Tea Cozy was a dear, taking in the little filly, who'd come all the way from the Gallopocous Islands. Where Cheerilee had never been, but hoped to someday. She hoped Sunny and Sweetie would perhaps make great friends, they seemed both alot alike in a lot of ways.

"Now, on our map of known Equestria, Ponyville is this little dot right here. It's a great big world out there and some of you ponies may someday get to see some of it. Some of you may even get to discover new places and new things that will one day be taught in this very classroom to new ponies. All around Ponyville are vast forests." she pointed at one of them. "Here, is the Everfree Forest. You musn't go there without an adult, it's a very dark and dangerous place for little ponies. And here, we have the Whitetail Wood, on the other side of Ponyville. It's not as dark, though it is still dangerous. But here, not far from the Whitetail Wood, is Canterlot. Can anypony tell me who lives in Canterlot?"

Sunnydew continued to sulk as she stared out the window. She would rather be outside right now, frolicking through the flowers or tending to her garden. But no, she was stuck in stupid school. And not even ten minutes in, she had already given herself a bad reputation. That thought merely made her sulk more.

As Cherilee walked into the classroom, she sighed effortlessly. She wasn't happy that they'd have to start learning, but she was happy that all those stupid jerks would stop talking like the stupids they were. She listened to Cherilee's talk, hardly even paying attention, her thoughts still split between her anger at the others and wanting to go outside. She glanced at Starlight when Cherilee told him to sit down, "Yeah, Tiny. Sit down." She whispered.

But when Cherilee asked about Canterlot, Sunnydew's attention peaked, "Ooh! Princess Celestia and Princess Luna live there!" She said, excitedly. She LOVED the princesses! They were so elegant and so beautiful and so pretty! She always wanted to go to Canterlot to see them, and to see their private garden. She realized her enthusiasm and sunk back into her seat, trying to hide from view. She blushed as she grew embarrassment for shouting out an answer like that. She HATED teachers pets, and tried desperately to not be one. Her grades often suffered for that.
