The building looked as incredible as it always did, the main difference being the loss of any source of light within the mansion. The city of Baltimare was nearly covered in darkness, as silence filled it's streets.

Were all the streets peaceful and quiet? Not all! A little pegasus stood before the gates to the mansion, whilsting as she pushed her head between the bars. ''.. Helloooooo?'' she nearly sang, as she looked around the property. She couldn't remember the garden being that big.. then again, there also used to be a house on that same place! She glanced back at the mansion, sniffed the air and giggled. ''Hatson, my dear, would you agree that we have to get inside?'' she asks the teddy bear that sat ontop of her hat. ''....'' She waited for a moment, before making up a answer to her question herself. ''I know, right? We should totally be able to get in here!'' she squeaked, and giggled again.

Even though this filly looked like she was just one of those tourists that enjoyed looking at gigantic momuments, this was not a ordinary filly. She was Sleuth, the pegasus filly who claimed to be a detective and that had recieved her cutie mark in the house she was looking at. Due to the strange circumstances that she had received her cutie mark in, all she wanted to do was get the truth of it. Was it merely the curiousness that had achieved her cutie mark, or was there more behind it? Before she even had a chance to find more clues about the interesting situation, she already was facing a obstacle. An old rusty gate was denying her entrance to her old home. Back during the day when she was still a foal and lived in that big place, the gate was shiny bronze and she was usually found staring at it once she returned home. It was shiny.. so shiny..

Now, said gate remained locked, with the same lock that was left on it when they left it. It was, along with the gate covered in a thick layer of rust. The lock! Ofcourse! The little filly though, as she whipped out the magnifying glass from her bag and held it infront of the lock. Closing the eye she wasn't using and poking the tongue out of her mouth she started to inspect the locker of gates!

Baltimare seemed like an interesting place to find a few jobs. The crime rate wasn't high, but that there was a crime rate to speak of gave Miasma the encouragement needed to make her way into town. The streets were empty, clear and most disturbingly, completely silent at this time. Usually, the late-night early-morning times in Equestria would still hold signs of life no matter what. Whether sleepy little town, or big city, there was usually some kind of light on, or some conversation, or some audible labor going on. It made Miasma uneasy to be here without security, regardless of her self-defense training.

She walked the streets looking for anything, anyone who had any knowledge of the current goings-on in the city.

"Shoot. I got a job right here. Where the tartarus is everyone?" she said out loud, before catching sight of a conspicuously frightening manor sitting rather close to the block she was on.

'Jeez. It's like I walked into a horror play or something. Next thing you know, I'm gonna end up in that place, surrounded by zombies or something.'

But what was this? A...a pony. A pegasus pony. A filly with a little stuffed animal and socks and a scarf and her coat color just all screamed waiting to be eaten or ponynapped continued to stand before the manor, laughing like an idiot. Miasma facetaloned, half-between laughing and leaving, or grabbing the pony out of there before she hurt herself. What would she even have to do with an abandoned building like this?

Miasma growled as her wings spread and she began to take off. "Stupid pony."

Ah, Baltimare; the next step on Kite's journey to becoming a true knight, and indeed quite a different sight from the places she'd visited previously. Gone were the bright fields of Ponyville, or the spires and towers of Canterlot; Baltimare traded these things, it seemed, for a dark and eerie silence, almost akin to that which hung over the Everfree forest. Pausing for a moment during her first routine patrol through the city, the little prospective knight took notice of the heavy lack of noise, and well... life. It was all rather unsettling... but no! None of that! I knight was never afraid! Still...

"I know it's a little early, but where is everypony?" She muttered to herself, sliding up her visor to get a better look at her surroundings. Buildings, alleys, a few street lanterns casting long, ominous shadows like claws just slowly reaching out to grab somepony and pull them into the dark! The tiny armored pegasus shook her head vigorously, expelling these scary imaginings, and continuing her march, the tell-tale CLINK, CLANK, CLINK, CLANK of her armor ringing out even more obviously in the dead silence of the Baltimare morning, the sound reaching down to a certain spooky mansion, and the individuals who stood outside it's gates!

Good ol' Baltimare. Mystery Chaser thought on how it felt good to get away from Hoofington for a while as she cheerfully wandered along the streets. A little vacation would probably be good for her. So, she figured that she would visit a city a few of her Falcon Noir books had mentioned! She had her hat, and her coat, and her saddlebags full of awesome detective gear! One never knows when a case will drop outta nowhere, after all! A detective has to be ready! Grinning widely, she practically prances down the street before pausing. She looks around to make sure nopony had seen her, then puts on such a severe frown, continuing her walk as she tries to look as hardboiled as possible.

She pauses as she turns a corner, tilting her head curiously as she peers down the road. Some pegasus was looking at a gate to a mansion down there. With a quiet gasp, she slips back behind the corner to peer around at the scene. She looks around to take in a bit more of the area. The rustle of wings drew her attention upward. Something flying. Then, she turned her head toward the telltale clink clank of armor getting closer. The earth pony rubs her chin thoughtfully. What had she stumbled upon? A bunch of thugs meeting up for some sort of illicit act? Some helpless filly trying to get away from assailants? A crook trying to find a place to hide? She turned back to watch the young mare at the gate curiously, waiting to get a clearer idea of what's going on just yet.

Hmmm.. it seemed this lock .. required a key! Sadly, Sleuth didn't have a key on her! How unfortunate! She giggled to herself before tapping her chin lightly in thought. ''.. Hmmmm... no key.. a rusty lock.. i've got it!'' she says, and flutters up slightly, as she slowly starts flying backwards. ''.. Three.. five.. seven.. two.. nine... one!'' she calls out, as she flies - or rather, floats - forwards, bumping against the gate. This seemingly had little to absolutely no effect, as only a quiet thud was heard along with the metal cling that was made by the lock. It didn't take too long for Sleuth to notice her effort had not made a difference to the current state of the lock. ''.. Awww..'' she mutters, and sighs, slowly planting her flank on the ground as she settles down, having completely missed the gryphon that was watching her from a short distance.

With a lock that won't budge and a body that wasn't heavy enough to break through a door, she had to improvise somehow! Lacking any real way of getting through the gateway to the mansion, she had to find somepony else to do it for her! But who should she ask for such a assignment? ''Hmmmm..'' the small filly mumbled out loud, scratching her head.

CLINK, CLANK, CLINK, CLANK!

Just then, she heard the clinging and clanging of metal from somewhere close-by. Turning her head into the direction of said noise, she saw a knight. Not just any knight, but a knight with big, fancy armor. And not just any big, fancy armor, but shiny big, fancy armor!

Smiling from ear to ear the little filly floated over to the filly, rubbing her cheek against the shiny metal plating happily. ''.. Oh, wooooow!'' she says, as she giggles and watches her reflection in the armor. ''.. you have, like, such awesome looking armor!'' she says, smiling broadly at the short knight. ''And it's shiny, too! So, so shiny!'' she claims, and purrs quietly as she continues rubbing her face against it, sadly, not noticing the fellow detective pony arriving to the scene either!

This was... a surprise. Suddenly, from out of seemingly nowhere, the knight found herself accosted by what could be described as a prismatic puff of a persistent pegasus pony, a hyperactive hub of hopping and hectic heckling; cute to be sure, yet a very odd sight this early in the morning. Indeed, she looked the type who by all accounts SHOULD be fast asleep at such a time, but the way she gushed over the shiny armor and made faces in the reflection was more akin to a pony who'd mixed a few too many teaspoons of sugar in her mug of imagination!

"Ah, excuse me, citizen..." The wannabe knight tried to catch the filly's attention. "Citizen? Umm..?" Oh, now the strange filly was rubbing up against the armor. It was quite the strange reaction to a knight in armor; after all, cold metal wasn't exactly the ultimate conveyor of cuddliness compared to clouds, cotton or comforters.

Wait, nevermind, that wasn't what was important! Kneeling down just a bit to the filly's level (Kite was hardly the definition of 'tall', herself), the iron-encased pegasus lifted her visor with a hoof. "H-hey, citizen! It's a bit of an odd time for a little filly like you to be running around, don'tcha think?" She offered a smile. "Are you lost? What's your name? Mine's Kite."

Flap-flapping her wings and hovering over the scene, Miasma couldn't help facetaloning again as she watched the antics of the silly filly in front of the door. Ramming all three pounds of what the gryphon was now sure was confetti against the lock with absolutely no degree of success. It was quite annoying, actually, watching the pony continuing the unhelpful monotony of her actions.

And then, a creaking, clanking, clinking something landed next to her, and she began talking.

Oh Celestia, one of those knight ponies. Infinite dedication to the crown and stupidly lawful.

The scene proceeded to annoy her more when the pony began rubbing up against the armor as if it were some sort of fuzzy...something. It was beginning to make her brain hurt. Her ideas hurt, even. Too much saccharine crap going on down there. The gryphon jet down to the doorsteps and cleared her throat audibly.

"Hi--names Miasma--is there any reason you two are trying to break into this house here? I have a gryphon sense that tingles when ponies are doing stupid things, and this looks like one of 'em." snarked Miasma, walking up the steps and flicking her tail in admonishment.

Mystery leaned against the corner she was peering around, watching intently as the little pegasus backs up away from the gate.

...

...Bump.

Mystery facehoofs at Sleuth's 'attempt'. She looks over again as the armored pony joins. Well, judging by the fanfilly antics, those two probably aren't together, considers the grey earth pony.

...and then a griffon swooped down to alight near them. She didn't hear any shouts or screams or anything, so she supposed there wasn't anything going down. Yet.

Adjusting her hat, she casually strolled toward the little group. Might as well satisfy her own curiosity and make sure nothing bad was brewing. Her hoofsteps clip and clop slowly as she starts moving closer, trying to put on her best 'detective face'. First impressions are everything, after all!

''City Zen?'' the fluffy little filly looked up at the knight and chuckled. ''Oh, no, no, no, my name is Sleuth! And this here is Hatson!'' she says happily, holding up the teddy bear from on-top of her hat. ''He's my assistant, and professional teddy bear. He has a PhD in Friendship, you know''' she comments, and gives the teddy bear a firm hug, causing it to make a short squeaking sound. ''..and in Cuddling!''

Suddenly, Sleuth overheard .. the sound of big wings! She turned to where it came from and looked up at a rather tall and fancy-looking griffon. ''Oh, woooow.. you are like, totally big and like talk and stuff!'' she gasps, and squeaks, fluttering up so she is face-to-face with the big bird. ''That's like.. so totally cool!'' she coo's and smiles broadly.

''Miasma?'' she asks, and tilts her head. ''That's like.. an odd name.. '' she mutters, tapping her chin in the air. ''But still, totally cool!'' she adds, and giggles. ''Stupid things?'' she then asks, and looks around. ''..Where?'' she asks, tilted her head and smiling quite broadly, ignorant about what the griffon actually meant. Blissful and dimwitted.. just like any other day for Sleuth!

All whilst doing these things, she saw a other pony nearing her and the others. She opened her mouth and gasped. Oh my gosh, was that a.. real detective? She remained fluttering, watching agape as the presumed detective pony approach them. What would she say? What will she do? Who is she? Where was i again?

Miasma turned her head away, before this kid went on and on in that annoyingly saccharine-to-the-point-of-diabetes voice of hers and looked over to the armored pegasus. She walked up to her and tapped a talon on the helmet. "Hey, anyone in there? You know what we're doing out here? Cause it looks to me, no one seems to have a friggin clue why we're all clustered in front of some old building that we can't get in."

She paused before continuing, and pointed a talon at both the armored pony and the annoying pony. "Acutally, you guys can't get in there."

Turning around, she took off, soaring through the air and banking around to the side of the house. No bars on the windows, perfect.

She crashed through the glass with her paws, managing not to get shredded in the process, and trekked the dark hallway, disappearing further into the house.
