Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Twilight Velvet

Sex: Female

Age: Mare

Species: Unicorn

Eye colour: Aqua

Coat: Pale Grey

Mane/Tail:

Alternating stripes of rich lavender, and pale, snowy white. Velvet's bangs are trimmed straight, with her mane coming up into a small curl. Her tail also features her unique lavender and white stripes, which arcs upward over her rump, and is trimmed neatly on a flat bias toward the end.

Physique: Velvet is rather standard as far as unicorn mares go. She has a slight lithe quality to her around her legs, though her body may be slightly plump. Her horn pokes between her bangs, dividing her striped mane neatly.

Residence: Canterlot

Occupation: Velvet is a mother, a clothier, as well as an author and storyteller.

Cutie Mark:

Three deep lavender stars dot her flank, each a little smaller than the others. When Velvet was a little filly, her own mother (who loved her very much, forever and ever), used to read her stories every evening. They typically had a bedtime mint tea party together, along with several plushie "guests," by a big open window. They would watch the stars slowly begin to appear amidst the dusky sunset, each like a little glimmering beacon in the vast oceans of the sky. By doing this, Velvet slowly learned to read herself. They read many stories together over hot pots of tea and starlight.

One particular evening, Velvet asked her mother: "What are the stars in the sky, really?" Her mother smiled at her and told her that each star was like a story, the light of the author's dream and creativity, there for us to see if we glance up and look. Each shooting star happened whenever somepony opened a book; it would return to Equestria, jump into the book, and tell its story. Velvet was an extremely creative filly who had her own stories to tell, and stars to add to the sky. She sat down in front of a parchment that morning, and wrote. Her hoof-writing was quite shaky, as she was still learning how to write neatly in school using her magic, but she did it. Her first story was about a star that came down to Equestria to make friends with a little filly. That night, she asked her mother if she could read her a story instead. When the story finished, her mother wept, and the two hugged tightly, knocking plushies everywhere. No new stars appeared in the sky that night, but three new ones appeared on her flank, much to Velvet's jubilation! They signify the brightness of creativity that twinkles within all of us.

History:

Velvet soon entered, as she jokingly called it "Celestia's School for Ungifted Unicorns." Her magical ability was quite standard, but she was very creative, and preferred to make her own magic through her stories. She once wrote for her school paper under the nom de plume "Twinkle Tarts," and started quite a following of readers with her stories -- some of them funny, some academic, but every new thing she wrote had a message. She eventually hit a huge writers' block, and decided to try her hoof at making cloth. She asked one of the sheep tenders if she could have wool. He agreed, but she would have to catch a sheep and shear it herself. After several hours, she succeeded, and made her way home, muddy and dusty, with a sack of dirty wool slung to her shoulder. She looked up books at Canterlot Library of how to spin and weave cloth, and she soon discovered that other fibers, especially ones from plants, could be used too! Her first attempts to make cloth were terrible. She hit a low point in her life, as she felt she was terrible at writing and making cloth, but decided to persevere. She was eventually rewarded, and developed skill to produce cloth. When she was weaving a particular fabric, made of flame blossom strands, cotton, and gold thread (which she called her vermillion special), she realized that words in stories could be woven like fabric, too. Her writers' block was gone!

She eventually met a handsome unicorn stallion by the name of Crescent Sparkle*, and they were happily married. Not long after, she gave birth to Shining Armor*, a handsome unicorn colt. After a time, she had another foal: a beautiful unicorn filly named Twilight Sparkle*. She happily raised them with her husband in Canterlot. She made bits by selling cloth, and used her writing talent to submit stories to the local Canterlot paper, as well as freelance writing work for the library, on rare occassions. She also wrote her own book called "The Wonders of Weaving Words," which was published in only two copies: one as a donation to Canterlot Library, and one for her family.

Velvet frequently wrote stories specifically for her children, and read to them by starlight*. Of particular note were two favorites of the two young foals: "The Shining Guardian," and "The Smarty Pants Unicorn." Her children eventually moved on to start their own life stories. Velvet resides in Canterlot to this day with Crescent Sparkle, where she works on making unique types of cloth, writing, and giving her husband a hard time.

Character Summary:

Velvet is quite an interesting unicorn to meet. She's creative, compassionate, and loves the whimsy of life. Little details enrapture her attention, as she loves to see deeper meaning in everything. Spots on a lady bug, chilly morning dew, or the first breath of a newborn foal. All these things were precious, and needed to be highlighted and shared.

Her sense of humor is very subtle and clever. She loves to keep herself busy. She carries a small roll of parchment to jot down story ideas as they come to her. Velvet is also always looking for new and interesting materials to weave into cloth, as she loves to inspire other seamstresses with new cloth offerings -- perhaps a rough burlap made of split, beaten wheat fibers, or a lavender-flax cashmere.

Velvet has strong patience, possibly developed by her hobby of making cloth (or being married). She can't stay angry for long about anything, preferring to work out a problem by pieces, instead of all at once. She's not very fond of crowds and noise, but tolerates them, especially if it's to watch her children.

She does not like turnips, likening them to "crunchy roots of awful that I believe to be like eating snails...not that I've eaten snails before, or anything." Cherry oatmeal pie is her favorite. She will not share, even with her husband. Velvet will have a late-evening tea party some nights, especially in summer when the crickets are in full chorus, and the warm, breezy night air brings echoing kisses of scent from flowers and blooming woodland. She will sip iced tea and ask the stars if they have any stories they wish to share with her.

Sometimes, they answer.
