Roleplay Type: WoE

Name: "Revenant", formally Northern Star

Sex: Male

Age: Stallion

Species: Unicorn

Eye Colour: A vivid, deep red, though the right reflection in the dark can make them seem bright.

Coat: Dark grey, from top to bottom. The skin on Revenant's left ear and down the back of his neck is pale and scarred, the remnants of an old burn wound. His body is also littered with scars from past battles and skirmishes, the largest of which runs from all the way from the posterior base of his neck to the top of his left hind leg.

Mane/Tail: Revenant's mane and tail are deep jade in color, with his mane sporting a lock of pale yellow in the front. Both mane and tail are, for the most part, cropped short, save for some locks framing his face.

Physique: Despite being a Unicorn, Revenant's body bares more resemblance to an Earth Pony. Larger and taller than the average stallion, he is a physically adept pony used to being active. His build is toned and athletic, with a robust bearing that still maintains an overall lean shape.

Residence: Hollowed-out Mountain Lair in the Eponnine Mountains.

Occupation: Elite Operative of WRAITH.

Cutie Mark: A stylized star half-hidden by an aurora borealis.

With the wide and gracious space his family home afforded, North's parents repeatedly warned him about playing with any high-flying toys near the grove in the backyard, not wishing for the young colt to lose them amongst the tall trees. North hardly paid attention however, until he did exactly that one day, throwing his disc too high and getting it stuck up in a tree. North's parents could have easily gotten it down, but instead felt it prudent to punish their son for not listening to them, deciding to leave it in the treetops. North spent the entire afternoon attempting to retrieve his toy, trying every trick he could think of, but could not prevail. He was instead forced to sit through a dinner full of lectures and some undercut smugness from his parents, telling him he would just have to wait until they'd decided he'd learned his lesson.

The next morning, his parents awoke to the sound of something thumping in the backyard. Curious, they went out to the lawn to discover a bull repeatedly charging at the tree - and more importantly, their son standing on the sidelines, looking on expectantly. The disc came tumbling down from the branches with only a few more charges, after which North produced a few bits from his allowance for the bull - and proceeded to begin playing with his toy again. His parents were equal parts impressed and incensed that North had managed to bypass a justly earned punishment for his disobedience, but the mixed feelings weren't enough to ignore the new cutie mark now prominently featured on the Unicorn's flank, symbolic of his persistence and perseverance.

Unique Traits: Fully embracing WRAITH's motto "You cannot kill that which is already dead", North decided to take on the name "Revenant" after he joined the organization. According to folklore, Revenants were powerful spirits that rose from the dead to exact revenge on those that had wronged them. After turning the tables on a REA patrol that had taken him by surprise, it seemed a fitting title for the Unicorn, one he adopted with aplomb. Sometimes a direct article is attached to his name by those outside of WRAITH, making "The Revenant" more of a title than an actual name. Revenant doesn't mind it, and actually likes the idea of REA members frighteningly discussing when The Revenant will be making its next appearance.

With a lifetime of special operatives training under his belt, Revenant makes for a formidable foe in combat. He is a master hoof-to-hoof combatant, making it difficult to escape his grasp once he's within close range, and he especially favors disabling moves, often aiming for the throat or knees. Both his body and the armor he wears favor strength and defense over blunt speed, but Revenant still maintains keen reflexes and agility in his line of work. Since leaving the REIN, the Unicorn has also started making use of weapons - most notably a shinken he stole from a traveler from the Far East, along with a dirk he keeps hidden away under his clothing. He makes for a decent swords pony usually able to hold his own in a fight, but more often than not utilizes his weapons solely for the illusion of his mastery of them, which usually leads to the Unicorn being able to take his sword-ready opponent by surprise.

Another surprise that Revenant keeps hidden away is his horn. Though his hood may provide a good measure of concealment, Revenant goes an extra step by fitting his horn with an enchanted ring that keeps the appendage invisible, effectively passing him for an Earth Pony to the untrained eye. An intuitive and complex enchantment provided by WRAITH resources, the ring allows him to save the surprise of magic unless it is absolutely needed, an ace in the hole. Outside of his unique brand of magic, Revenant is a fairly skilled magic user, with a larger emphasis on variety rather than potentness, though he's made it a point to learn how to teleport efficiently for a small amount of time. His special form of magic, however, is something the Unicorn likes to refer to as 'Negation', or the being of nothing. Contrasting a Unicorn who's talents lay in summoning objects and elements from thin air, Revenant specializes in the breaking down of objects and magic to their core elements. This essentially allows him to negate or neutralize anything by disassembling it into its basic, and harmless, aether and chemical components. The magic is mostly used to negate incoming magical attacks, obliterate objects or force fields in his way, or - if someone is hit by a blast of his magic - temporarily neutralize their inherent magical properties, making them weak and vulnerable.

History: Raised as the only son and sole heir to a relatively wealthy family in Trottingham, Northern Star was born during a spectacular aurora borealis showing courtesy of Cloudsdale Pegasi. Despite the weather phenomena that had heralded in his birth, it had already been decided that the first born child of the house would take after the father's name, while the second took after the mother's, and continuing. Thus, the two Unicorn named their child Northern Star, even if they continued to associate an aurora borealis with their son, up to and including nursery decorations, birthday parties, and even some clothing choices.

It mattered little to the young foal, who became known as North in the community. The Unicorn quickly formed a reputation for being both spoiled, yet amazingly self-sufficient - like many spoiled offspring of well-to-do parents, North became quick to request and demand whatever his little heart desired, yet any denied requests still became fulfilled through the Unicorn's own means. Sometimes the matter involved North performing a few favors or errands for others in the neighborhood, earning a little extra money to buy the toy he'd wanted. Other times, a night of confinement to his room simply encourages the foal to sneak out of his window and slink back in before his parents awoke. As North grew, he excelled in his education as expected from his tutors and mentors, but lacked any real drive or desire to move forward with his life, causing parents to worry over how their son was turning out.

Eventually, his father decided he would need to force some form of discipline into his figuratively floundering son.  A few letters and pulled strings landed North as a Private in the REA for a few months, before he was transferred over to a cushiony job within the REIN. To the surprise of practically everyone, North took to the job like a duck to water, earning his way into positions of greater importance and noteworthiness. Perhaps it was simply an egotistical matter that stoked the Unicorn's fancy, the fact that he had access to information and details only a select few within Equestria had. Whatever the case, North continued to perform his way out of desk jobs and into the field, becoming a Special Agent of the REIN.

It was during this time of working his way up the ladder, however, that North beginning hearing of another Special Agent who bore some very radical ideas on the future of Equestria. She was quite vocal about them, fearing no retribution from the higher-ups, and her willingness to make her voice be heard caught North's attention. Her utter disdain for the state of Equestrian leadership and her calling for the reformation of the REIN into something better was near sacrilege, to many of the ponies that were around to hear her words - not North. Still, as focused as he was on moving up the chain into more noteworthy positions, the Unicorn never had a chance to really learn more about the agent behind the words, as she was reported KIA during a mission into Aquellia. The ramblings of a radical agent were quickly swept under the rug, and North forgot all about her until a year later.

The Changeling Invasion was the event that finally put things into perspective for North. Combined with Princess' Celestia's lex attitude in allowing an untrained and untested Unicorn to battle Nightmare Moon a year earlier, the entire incident proved to North that Equestria's leaders were incompetent, inept, and utterly out of its league, provoking a deep loathing and detestation against the entire country. North's newfound beliefs were only further cemented just a few months later, when a miscommunication within the REIN almost ended in North's death during an outing into the Badlands, where his recon group was mistakenly led into a hostile Diamond Dog camp instead of the friendly Diamond Dog settlement further to the east. North's survival and escape were thanks only to the loyalty and brotherhood of the recon group, who divided to distract the Dogs while one member pulled North from the burning building that had crumbled on top of him.

The mistake was later attributed to a miscommunication due to magical interference, but the cause didn't matter to North. Disillusioned about the security and, more importantly, the competence of Equestria's reigning rulers, North set out on a solo mission into Aquellia - and simply, failed to return. A recovery team was discreetly sent out after him, but with the risk of Equestrian government snooping around the foreign country becoming public knowledge, North was simply declared MIA. In truth, the Unicorn deserted the REIN and Equestria both, breaking ties with his old home and country. That might have been the end of it, had North not lucked into a chance meeting with certain illicit individuals, who introduced the Unicorn to an organization determined to end Equestrian way of life. North signed on without another thought, and officially shed his birth name in favor of Revenant. Now, Revenant works diligently alongside Number One and the other members of WRAITH, a specter all too prepared to return from the grave and enact his revenge.

Character Personality: All of the traits that might be used to describe Revenant, perhaps the most contextually terrifying one would be his persistence. His calling card and the driving force of his special talent, the Unicorn is utterly unrelenting once he sets his mind to obtaining something, no matter how many failures he goes through. He can persevere through resistance, opposition, and outright defeat, rising again to continue his conquest. In some respects, he is imitative of a small and spoiled foal, used to receiving whatever they wish, when they wish it. What's more, Revenant has the actual patience to get whatever it is that he wants, whether it takes weeks, months, or even years. Never once does a desire fall to the wayside due to boredom, hopelessness, or impossibility, and while Revenant may sometimes change his mind about what he wants, it is never due to simply giving up on his goal.

His persistence easily melds with ruthlessness as Revenant charges after what he seeks - an inherently selfish Unicorn, the WRAITH member sees no reason why he needs to respect others and their well-being. Perhaps the sole exception to his relentless drive is his boss, the big Number One, for not only does Revenant answer directly to WRAITH's leader, he also truly believes in her goals for Equestria. Everyone else though, can expect to either put up a fight or get out of the way, as he steamrolls anyone and everyone to get what or who he wants. Revenant even subtly emphasizes this fact through the iron-clad shoes he wears on his hind legs, worn in nearly every occasion sans stealth based missions. Not only do they condition and strengthen his body by adding on the extra weight, they also make his bucks and kicks quite devastating, metaphorical symbol of crushing anyone in his path under boot and heel.

With his unrelenting nature riding high at the forefront, most would think of Revenant as an unthinking brute who demands to be given everything he wants. On the contrary however, years in the REIN have cultivated the patience needed to wait for opportune moments rather than charging in as soon as possible, a fact that has transferred over to the Unicorn's personality. Revenant is as charming as the next Trottingham noble, often bowing low to kiss a mare's hoof or performing all the subtle, inbred gestures one would expect from a gentlepony. Even while he's wearing full armor inside WRAITH HQ, Revenant still displays a charming and almost roughish behavior around others, as if plotting to overthrow the government on a daily basis has absolutely no consequence on his day. His distinctive and noticeable accent also lends itself to the persona of a regular Trottingham gentlepony, and whether or not Revenant is truly sincere in his charmed flattery tends to vary from situation to situation, and from pony to pony.

Given his work history and current position, Revenant has also developed into very observant pony, used to keenly paying attention to small details that would otherwise escape the notice of others. Often this skill is used against the pony in question, though at times it's used for utterly inconsequential things, like leaving a small bouquet of a pony's favorite flower on their doorstep. The Unicorn's keen and intuitive mind often give him an intense and focused look, as if he is attempting to simply read another pony's thoughts simply by staring at them hard enough - other times he walks around with a perpetual smirk on his features, as if he might know some intimate secret he could not possibly know. It is sometimes off-putting to strangers, but a quick introduction soon has them facing the Trottingham gentlecolt he was raised to be.

Character Summary: Though he may appear a true bred gentlecolt from Trottingham, Revenant is anything but. Whether or not his charming ventures are sincere or not is irrelevant - the fact of the matter is that the Unicorn works to get what he wants, and has no care for anyone that gets hurt on his way to getting it.
