Cutie Mark: A wrench and crystal, crossed over one another. It represents a talent for tinkering with devices, both mechanical and magical.
When Luminous Spark was a filly, one evening her father brought home the result of an assignment completed by one of his students. This was something of a regular occurrence for the more in-depth projects, sometimes he needed more time to truly examine it than a single school day allowed. What's more, this one was especially interesting, and he wished to share the fascinating with his daughter. She had a interest in these things after all, and it was something he wanted to share in. It was just a shame this one didn't quite work the way it was intended...
Even with just the feeble signs of activity it displayed, Luminous Spark was entranced.  Utterly fascinated, for a time she obsessed over it, constantly thinking about it and even starting to sneak into her father’s office to fiddle with it.  (The student who created the device had previously abandoned it in frustration.)  After a few such sessions she felt she almost got it working!  Unfortunately desire to tinker was much stronger than her sneakiness, and she was caught red-hooved.  Her father poked the device, which buzzed feebly in his hoof before turning to Spark.  “What did you do?” he asked.  Luminous Spark started to stammer out a response, reaching for some explanation why she might have come into her father’s office and played with a student project, when she noticed something.  Her father wasn’t mad, infact he seemed to be smiling!  As Luminous Spark sat there dumbfounded, her father laughed softly and explained “that’s more than it’s ever done!”, before pointing at the filly’s flank.  Luminous Spark followed his hoof, and found that where it was once empty a mark had now appeared.
In her own excitement at finding her destiny, she never did get around to asking what that project was supposed to do.

Unique Traits: Though she’ll carry a number of different devices as she develops them, at the current time there is one she is testing in particular, which she calls the Arcane Sling.  Where battle magic is generally limited to unicorns, and conventional ranged weapons such as crossbows are limited in what can be fired out of them, the arcane sling promises to be a more versatile weapon.  It is a staff, which uses a limited but focused form of artificial telekinesis to fling objects in the direction it is pointing.  Though it can only launch objects with about the force of a crossbow, and being significantly more unwieldy, it can launch just about anything of the appropriate size.  Not only can this help when proper ammunition is in short supply, but it easily allows for a number of specialized payloads which might otherwise be prohibitively difficult to supply to soldiers in the field.  To that effect Luminous Spark carries a few canisters, with various specialized contents such as adhesive or smoke.

History: Luminous Spark didn't see much of her mother when growing up, given the mare's role in the REA. Luminous Spark never held any resentment for that fact, as even as a filly the importance of the work had been impressed upon her. She looked up to her mother, admiring her dedication. But it did leave her to be mostly raised by her father. As for many young fillies her mother a loving figure, just one she rarely saw. She grew into a quiet filly, one who was more accustomed to being by herself, and could often be found reading or working on schoolwork even as others her age were out playing. Not to say she didn't have friends, she found a number of other little foals she found agreeable, but she kept them at a comfortable distance.

Continuing the trend, as she grew older she turned out to be a bright thought quiet young mare. Between her family, her father's encouragement and her own dedication to her studies, she was soon accepted into a respected academy of science in Canterlot.     Though she never fully managed to become forward in her interactions with others, even despite her newfound independence, she at least learned how to stand up for herself where she felt it important. She still felt discretion was the better part of valour, but she was far from helpless.
It was all turned upside down by the attack on the Crystal Faire. Luminous Spark was fortunate enough not to be caught in it, having other responsibilities which kept her from going. But she had a few friends who had gone and got caught in the conflict, and when they returned they brought new scars and injuries with them. Luminous Spark helped them to recover in what ways she could, as any good friend would do. In the end, seeing first-hoof the aftermath of the attack left an impression on her. She was done doing nothing from the sidelines, she would do something to ensure something like this never happened again.

Of course, she was no fighter. She wasn't even especially athletic, and the time it would take to get there would be too much. She wanted to act now. So, becoming a guard was out of the question. That wasn't her strong suit anyways. She was a capable inventor, and with a new drive she turned her attention to a area she hadn't truly considered before: the battlefield. She began designing weapons and tools which she hoped would save the lives of the soldiers who used them and the ponies they defended. With the academy's reluctant blessing, she soon had her first functional prototypes.
All that remains, is to test them.

Character Personality: Despite what her mannerisms might suggest, Luminous Spark actually does enjoy speaking to others.  The problem is that her expertise is with devices, and not ponies.  She has a tendency to fixate on the projects she sets for herself, which is useful for experimenting but tends to make for poor conversation with most ponies.  She’s taken to keeping a respectful distance on first meeting others, as a way to avoid alienating or overwhelming who she’s talking to right off the bad.
Her personality and her occupation have left her adapted to quieter circumstances.  She’s accustomed to working alone, and can happily spend many hours tinkering.  She’s very meticulous in her work, and enjoys study both in the academic sense and in the sense of analyzing a problem she’s been confronted with.  She can struggle when things get ‘noisy’, although has enough presence of mind not to panic in an emergency.  Between the need to field test her devices and her own personal desires, this is something she would like to change.
She enjoys tinkering with and making little gadgets, to the point that she often does so in her spare time, and would continue even if her work turned out to be completely unrelated.

Hi there :)

I've had a chance to look this over. I'm good with it except for the mention of gun powder weaponry. This reference doesn't quite fit with FiM lore. Please edit this reference and then I can send this in for second review.

I'd been working off of the arena, which allows primitive gunpowder weapons.

I'm a little relieved if that's the only issue with the character thought, and it's an easy fix.

I've edited out the problematic element, I think the character's ready to be checked again.

Whenever you get the chance, please format your app sheet so that it isn't all one giant, unwieldy blob of text. That being said, the rest of this app checks out, so I'll stamp.
