Winter Drawfriends Submission 1

Whitehawke

Finally done with this. I wanted to do a bit more fiddling with the shading, especially on the ponies, but I hadn't planned it, so I wasn't sure if it would have turned out "right". Some other stuff could have been revised to look better as well.

Also, those trees on the left look fairly lazy to my own standards...but how else was I supposed to get that many trees done quickly?

The ponies still have a few off-model facial features, such as the nose, but at least it's considerably less noticeable than the Rarity/Rainbow drawing.

Oh wow! I wasn't expecting this at night. Thats a pretty cool change of pace. Get it? Its cool cause it'd be like 30ºF colder at least. :P

Seriously though, I like it. The trees by themselves don't seem so bad, and its extra impressive that they weren't just rubber stamped. But I must be totally honest in that you could have probably been lazier on the trees. They're so detailed that they might draw attention away from the mane six.... but you know, take any and all critiques with a grain of salt.

I often debate in my mind whither or not to add extra shading for the ponies. Personally I think they come out better without except for very specific scenes to help establish mood.

The only thing I can think of is maybe make them a little darker to represent night, but it isn't necessary at all.

I was originally going to make this during the day, but then the screen would have been 60% white. Not good on the eyes, in my opinion, so I changed it to night for a nicer blu-ish white.

Mmmmm, I think that's yet another reason why people prefer Luna to Celestia.

Also, those trees are detailed for a reason: zoom in and look carefully enough and you might find something different... :P

So being at night makes it about 20% cooler? (had to)

I think the detail amounts are about right. The trees feel detailed enough to know they are there, while not really drawing attention away from the mane 6. And the not-quite-stock facial features add a little uniqueness and life to the expressions, even though I'm not quite sure what you meant by "off-model size facial features" . . I can't really tell the difference, myself.

Long and short of it: Well done.
