Redline II - Racing to the Edge

brianblackberry

I don't think people really liked my stylized, purposely harsh Dash obsessive speed picture, so I debated finishing this at all. However I went ahead, again I took liberty with style and shading rather than stick to my more "canon" FiM style for this image. It came out alright, unlike the Dash one where the lines were purposely black, these are colorized and softer, which strangely works better here. The premise is pretty self-explanatory, Spitfire is racing the Shadowbolt Raven in a very serious contest of speed. Both are pushing themselves to the edge in order to win and prove which group (in their minds) is "the best".

I dunno, I didn't think there was anything wrong with the Dash picture, although I suppose pained expressions can be tough to sell regardless of how well they're made.

I think the soft colored lines do look better, given the highly saturated nature of the rest of the colors, but I don't think the black lines were bad. I must ask though, how you managed to make the soft outlines, and how you did the transitions between hard and soft shadows.

For this piece, the fancier lighting and auras, the slightly greater detailing, really makes it *pop*. It really feels powerful, very nice work! And yeah, I love how the fabric is tearing from their intense speed!

I don't think there was anything wrong with the Dash picture either. It was incredibly well made. It just didn't appeal to me for whatever reason.

I LOVE this one. The shading is perfection.

This is really intense looking, 3B. The style you've employed here looks like it could be coming straight out of a FiM movie. The attention to detail, like the white outlining Spitfire as though the wind was rushing around her, the tearing of the flightsuit around the hooves (which are taking the brunt of the wind resistance) and even the tear against the wind really show us just how fast these two are going!
