Character Summary: Buttercup is just one of three triplets. Their mother left when they were very young, so they don't even remember her at all. It doesn't bother them that they only have their scientist father as a parent. Together, she lives with her sisters Blossom and Bubbles.

Buttercup may seem like the average 'tough guy' on the outside, but she does have a soft side—sometimes...

She'd do anything to protect her two sisters, especially if it means getting to give a pony a mouthful of hoof. Buttercup is a nice pony around her friends, but she can hold her own in a fight, even against Colts. To her, boys are nasty and full of cooties, and she stays as far away from them as she can. But, when she is around boys, Buttercup tries to act especially tough, so that she'll be accepted as their equal. She isn't afraid to get dirty or mess up her mane.

Still, Buttercup enjoys spending time with her sisters, whether it's coloring, cooking, or helping the professor. All three of the girls like to help their dad in his lab, but Blossom especially. Buttercup also likes to read comic books in her spare time, a pastime that her sister's do not share in enjoying.

Buttercup's Cutie Mark is a Buttercup flower. Buttercup's are poisonous when eaten, so it symbolizes her tough side. However, Buttercup's are also flowers, so it shows that she has a soft side as well. It is also a play on words, since Buttercup is also learning to cook, and cups of butter are used in cooking.

She'll also take on anypony who challenges her to a race, in order to 'defend her honor', as it were. She hates losing, and sometimes ponies let her win just so they can avoid being beaten up if they were to win.

Buttercup also likes to cook, though nopony outside of her family knows this yet. She thinks that cooking would make her look too weak and “girly”, so for now, it's a secret. Buttercup still enjoys her rough and tumble activities, but at heart, she has her moments of kindness.
