When he was born, his parents, Silver Rock and Northern Star, compromised on his name, agreeing that he would be called Silverstar. He was very happy growing up and working on the apple farm, but in his spare time, he enjoyed reading books. His favourite author was Louise LaMare who wrote novels set in early pioneer pony times. In school, he'd often daydream about being a Western type hero, galloping to the rescue of ponies in danger and solving mysteries. Some of his schoolmates would tease him about his pioneer fantasies, especially when they'd catch him practicing with his lasso or throwing apples at targets during recess. But Silverstar held on to his dreams, he just knew one day he'd be a pioneer pony. His aspirations were reinforced when his cutie mark appeared one morning as he was pretending to be a pioneer era sheriff. As he grew into stallionhood, he began to wonder if his dreams would come true. While remaining on his parents apple farm, he read an ad in the local newspaper about a group of ponies seeking volunteers to establish a new community in the wilderness, a place they would call Appleoosa. Silverstar jumped at the opportunity and soon joined the herd of prospective pioneer ponies. Thanks to the novels he had read and his experience on the family apple farm, the light brown pony was much the expert about what pioneer life would be like. Leaving the family apple farm, Silverstar became one of the leaders of the first wagon train to arrive in the Appleoosa area. Thanks to his efforts, the town was soon built and the first apple orchard was planted. The grateful citizens of the new community rewarded his tireless devotion to the town by electing him Sheriff. At last! The moustached stallion was living his dream! His skilled leadership helped Appleoosa weather the Buffalo Crisis and after the Great Compromise was reached, he helped the town maintain good relations with their buffalo neighbours.
