1. From the album: Ghost Writer and the Traveling Players

Often the star of the plays is Spotlight, self-proclaimed "bestie" of Ghost Writer. Honestly, she's probably right. The two are as different as day and night, but they frequently confide in each other and Ghost Writer only complains a little when Spotlight drags her around to various places the playwright wouldn't normally go. Spotlight is an rp character belonging to Allura.

  2. From the album: Livestream Requests

Fourth request from my 29-30/12/12 Livestream, taking me up to the 14 hour mark... riverhippo requested this from his ongoing 100 Country Kisses RP. Applejack thought that offering a free kiss with every bushel of apples sold would be a good way to move some surplus stock. Little did she know that a certain princess was looking to make a purchase, or that Granny Smith would inadvertently capture the special moment for prosperity.

  3. From the album: Livestream Requests

The second request from my 29-30/12/12 Livestream. Bellosh101's griffon OC, Falco Kestrelson, quaffing a mug of cider. I'm really happy with how this one turned out, especially the palette and the splash of cider escaping the mug.

  4. hi hi On second watching, it would seem my impression has not improved. I think I'm going to have to rate this episode as "At least its not as bad as Mysterious Mare Do Well," on account of the good humor between Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Applejack. After watching them try and fail to get Spike to give up, I was feeling pretty optimistic that we'd see a real solution before the resolution. However, a real solution never really showed up, and it doesn't seem like anything in the second act of the story had any bearing on the resolution. Applejack had made a number of reasonable arguments for why Spike should stop giving her unwanted favors, arguments that were just as good as her final argument about respecting her own code, but if I didn't know any better, I'd almost be compelled to think they're suggesting you should actually allow someone to complete their unwanted favors as a way of getting them to stop. (Which, if true, would be extremely uncool.) After the second watch through, I was able to pinpoint the moment where the episode was lost beyond hope for me. When Applejack goes to seek Twilight Sparkle's help in talking some sense into Spike, I simply couldn't believe Twilight's response. I was thinking: "This is your friend Applejack you're talking to Twilight, are you seriously going to tell her that creepy stalker behavior is more important than her own wishes on the matter? What is wrong with you? Applejack is not the one who's at fault here." There are very few things worse than when the people you trust don't take you seriously. (I'll never forget when a friend of mine had to flee her home town and not tell anyone where she was going because her parents didn't believe her when an ex-boyfriend started stalking her.) Maybe if Twilight had apologized, but at the end, she just digs herself in deeper with a lame, "I thought you were right behind us," line. (A far cry from the caring Twilight Sparkle in Feeling Pinkie Keen, when she turns back and risks herself to save both Spike and Pinkie Pie from the Hydra.) I really hate to be such a downer. I would much rather write about how awesome I thought the episode was, so I'll try to end on a positive note. Do you suppose Applejack is really writing a novel of her own? She sure seemed to respond when Rainbow Dash brought it up. (And if so, what do you suppose its about?)

  5. I regret to inform all of you in Canterlot that a member and dear friend of ours has passed away this morning. DuskBreeze, aka Sarah Hellens, born October 22 1993, has died today, 5:50pm (New Zealand Time), October 28 2012... I don't know about the rest of you but in the little time I have been here on Canterlot, DuskBreeze and I became quick friends. She was one of the first people who friended me and who I RP'd with. She was always so sweet, gentle, and kind. She also had a great sense of humor too. I could always look to her to brighten my day. Sarah... Dusk... has earned a very special place in my heart as I am sure she has with the rest of you. That is why this is so painful that it is nearly unbearable... my heart breaks as I compose this... Back to business, I create this thread so that we all may say to her and her family what is in our hearts. I ask that you all join and pay your respects for our fallen friend. We may mourn her this day but do not forget to remember her in joy for all the good she has brought to us. I know I won't. I love you Dusk, you were one of my best friends. I thank you for all the time we spent together here and all the joy you brought me and I will cheerish it always. Infinite love and respect forever. Your BFF... -MasterMustang

  6. Good things come with patience, my friend. Remember that there's a strong possibility for differences in timezones, with this in mind, it helps to master the difficult task that is waiting. One thing that helps is to keep yourself occupied with something.

  7. Name: Lightning Dust Age: Mare Sex: Female Species: Pegasus Eye colour: Goldenrod Coat: Aqua Green Mane/Tail: Both Lightning Dust's tail and mane are a two-tone combo of saffron and dark goldenrod. Her tail is kept decently groomed, and her mane is always slicked back, save for two bangs that stick out slightly. Physique: Not visibly so, but lean, and definitely aerodynamic. Lighting Dust's consistent exposure to wind resistance has increased her endurance and speed greatly, making her more than a match for even the fastest pegasus. Residence: An apartment in Southern Cloudsdale. Nothing amazing, but whatever. It's not tacky at least. Occupation: Weather Pony/currently suspended Wonderbolt in training. Cutie Mark: A single white lightning bolt surrounded by a number of stars. Attained early in fillyhood when she managed to perfect her speed technique in an exercise with her mother. For months, she had been harassing her over the importance of acceleration. After a brief period of time, it became all too clear that as much as she hated studying at the time, she'd have to if she wanted to learn how to reach top speed and not lose any on turns. In learning about currents as well as slipstreams, she was able to blow past her mother easily and lap around her in a race. It's a symbol of her never-ending determination and dedication to becoming the best flyer in Equestria, as well as her ability to take to learning new things quickly. Likes: Testing herself and her limits, total and complete victory, good competition, good associates, root beer and secretly...science..just a little. Dislikes: Losing at anything. Any task or competition that doesn't challenge her in any way possible. Being told to mind other ponies. Character Summary: Born to former stunt ponies turned parents, Lightning Dust came up watching and eventually learning flying tricks from her mother and father. She had always admired the sacred pegasine practice of flight, and desired to go higher and faster than anypony ever could. Her parents would take her to see the Wonderbolts, Equestria's longrunning air force/stunt group. They were truly an inspiration to her, being the only ponies she ever knew who could outfly her parents even. Dust was homeschooled by her parents in the art of flight, thus leaving her a bit out of touch with her peers when she was younger. While others would be hanging out with friends and socializing, she'd be out cloudbusting and breaking personal records. They also tutored her in science, specfically in aerodyamics, with a bit of basic training in chemistry. She disliked the lessons at first, wanting them to be as practical as flapping her wings, but upon attaining her cutie mark, discovered that they were a way to unlock her potential even further. Out of this came one of her own original moves even. One of the most important things her father, had told her was to be the best she could ever be, and her mother, added onto that, "...and then when you get there, get even better than that, and never stop.". Unfortunately, to one as single-track minded as she, Lightning Dust had taken it to mean that she was to be the best no matter what the cost. As she got older Dust had a habit of challenging others to races, and making sure to humiliate them when she did so just because it was within her abilities, which were above average with the level of training she was receving from her parents. Being the best to her meant that everypony knew it. Dust had never had friends per se, or at least, friends that could handle her reckless and dangerous ways for long. Ponies came and went, attracted by the initial charisma that she exuded, and the respect she instantly had for anypony who could match her, but in time, they distanced themselves. This resulted in a bit of regression into comparmentalizing others as her betters, her equals, or everypony else. (Everypony else being those she felt herself better than.) Though it has resulted in a bit of loneliness, she has resolved to care less about it. Nopony came with her out of the cradle aside of her parents, and she wouldn't need any for when she left either right? She moved out as she entered marehood, and took up a job as a weather pony to pay the bills while pursuing her desire to become a Wonderbolt. By the time she had finally managed to make it to the academy at last, she was secretly overjoyed to find a pegasus who thrived on her own ability the way she did. Rainbow Dash her name was, and the two raced one another for the top spot as they proceeded through the ranks and academy records of the rigorous Wonderbolt training regimen. Unfortunately, as so many times had happened previously, Dash began to take issue with Dust's loose cannon style. She easily waved away each and every time she was called out as a minor inconvinence for their fellow flyers for not being as competent. This reached a head when Dust was promoted to Lead Pony, and Dash was given the position of Wing Pony. During one particular exercise, they were tasked with cloudbusting, and Dust found it the best idea to create a tornado in order to pull the entirety of them in and destroy the piles of fluff, regardless of the potential it had of harming other teams. Even worse, Rainbow Dash's friends had appeared right then, as the whirlwind spun out of control, and buffeted their hot air balloon. Through deft moves and determination to keep her friends safe, she managed to get them out of harms way to the applause of many. Due to her dislike of how Dust handled the situation, Dash decided to resign from the Wonderbolt's training course. Of course, when Captain Spitfire caught wind of this, it became the last straw for her regarding Lightning Dust. She paused Dash, promoted her to Lead Pony, and had Lightning Dust escorted from the premise.Presently, her status as a Wonderbolt-in-training is still up in the air. But for now, her record shows that she is suspended for poor conduct and behavior unfitting of the Wonderbolt name. Lightning Dust is still quite bitter about the situation as a whole, and for now is back to her weather pony job in the meantime. Personality: Due to her sheltered life, Lightning Dust was a bit spoiled early on, lavished in the love of both her parents, and not being given much responsibility beyond learning what they taught her. Coupled with the lack of interaction with others her own age and her eagerness to pit herself against the world, her social outlook culminated in a "devilpony-may-care" persona. There are bright spots, and moments where she has found companionship to be a boon, but only for so long before she chases it away with her showboating attitude and antics. As such, she acts as if the only company she really needs is her own when she's alone, but a bit of humble pie and a friend who is willing to stick with her through it all could change that. Technique: Though an athelete, Lightning Dust is by no means dumb muscle. Her parents had taught her a fair amount of science in order to optimize her abilities in flight. While she isn't as cerebral in her practices, the basics of wind resistance, longitude and latitude as well as certain reactions (chemical, aethertic or otherwise) have stuck with her. This has allowed her to produce at least one self-taught move of her original creation: The Photo Bomb. By manipulating light particles while flying at supersonic speeds, Lightning Dust can cause them to collide with one another by a strong flap of her wings. This results in a cameralike flash when she does so, and she does this upon landing. It can blind onlookers for a split second.

  9. hi hi If Friendship is Magic was all awesome 100% of the time, that would be awesome if you ask me. I for one love awesome things, like flying in airplanes, typing on fantastic nigh magical boxes that perform automatic computations, and being able to produce light with the flip of a switch. (I particularly appreciate it when the airplanes that I'm flying in work 100% of the time.) At least as far as I've seen in season 3, some episodes are really awesome and some are really not very awesome, but there's not many that are middle of the road. Why that might be the case, though, I can't even begin to fathom. You won't find any apologies for Mysterious Mare Do Well here, as far as morals go, MMDW is the only episode that I think was truly bad. As in, kids shouldn't watch this, bad. I may have thought that Owlowiscious was an unbearable mary sue in Owls Well That Ends Well, that Twilight Sparkle killing all those Pinkie Pie clones in Too Many Pinkies was horrifying, and in this episode, that Twilight betrayed Applejack and Spike didn't learn anything as evidenced by his clinging to Twilight at the end; but there's always at least some kind of redeeming quality to the episodes that manages to pull them back from the edge. When Spike asked "How will I know that I'm a noble dragon?" what he needed was a real answer so that he could determine that for himself. But a lack of an answer is not as bad as a positively wrong answer, so in this case I suppose I can call the moral of the story rather neutral. (As children, many dependent people are encouraged to rely solely on authority figures for direction and approval, and on reaching adulthood, are unable to rely on their own beliefs and actions to function independently. Generally speaking, I think if a kid is old enough to be worrying about it, they're old enough to be learning about it.) Up until they dropped the ball on the moral of the story though, I was enjoying the episode. (And I can admit that its partly personal preference for me, on account of my interest in philosophy.) Rainbow Dash was excellent this time around too, her confidence and then utter bewilderment when her plan failed was very well played. I liked the consistency of Applejack's discomfort, and was really looking forward to a real resolution. I was actually rather unnerved when Applejack apparently killed the timberwolves at the start, and was glad that it wasn't the case. Applebloom, Spike and the giant pig was a great little bit too. Also: I noticed that no pegasi went after the runaway balloon, is perhaps the Everfree Forest scary enough that ponies don't even fly over it?

  12. INGRID MARIE: A COMMENTARY BY BELLOSH101 As I said I would, I’m taking the week off from my RP spotlights to do another one of these personal introspective articles. Last month, I wrote a little something about my first original character, Spin Tale. This week, I’ll be yapping about my first ever Tier-3 character. So if you’re ready, climb on in and enjoy the ride! (Image vectored by ClairDeLaSoul) Development Process: Before I begin, let me use this opportunity to brag about how awesome Tier-3s are. They’re basically like OCs in that they have no real pre-existing personality, but the RPer who apps them doesn’t have to go through the hard work of actually designing the character. Better yet, there’s usually no competition for these ponies. Lazy I know... but still. Like Grandfather Mojo, I’ve grown to enjoy apping Tier-3s throughout my time here. Getting back to this article’s subject, the reason I wanted to app Ingrid Marie was simply because I wanted to portray one of those magic school examiners from "The Cutie Mark Chronicles". When it came time to decide which of the four proctors to app, I chose Ingrid because I liked her design and because of her cutie mark: a red apple. Normally, the explanation for a cutie mark like that would be how students always give apples to teachers... but what fun is there in making sense? Instead I opted for something bolder, envisioning her instead as a member of the far-strung Apple family. At first I feared the chance that the app would be rejected on the basis that Apple ponies are all supposed to be earth ponies; it was only after the fact when I discovered that an OC Apple unicorn already exists here..... go figure. Because this was my first cast app and because of the high stakes I envisioned back then, I spent considerably more time writing Ingrid’s app than I did for Spin Tale. While I wrote a lot more as far as character history was concerned, the app was still wanting in the all-important personality fields. So once again, I ended up constructing most of her personality on the fly, as it were. How things played out, Ingrid is mostly a straightmare-character and mentor who every once in a while is prone to displays of bashful exhibitionism. In many respects, Counselor Marie acts as an amalgam of my grandmother and her sister, who while working in different occupations still fulfilled basic counseling and mentoring roles. As for Ingrid’s occasional “mmkay”, that’s a tribute to school counselor Mr. Mackey from South Park. If there was one thing in my app for Ingrid Marie that I’d take back, it would be her conflict with her parents. I did my best to avoid the clichés surrounding jerk authority figures by giving Ingrid’s mum and dad a legitimate reason to have a disagreement with their daughter. However, the fact stands that unless someone can be bothered to app Ingrid’s parents, then this unpleasantness will never be resolved through RP. Lesson for everyone: the next time you think child-parent conflicts should play an important role in your next character app, keep this important thing in mind. In retrospect, it would have helped to place more thought into conjuring a long-term arc for Counselor Marie that could actually be played out through existing RP characters. The good news; there’s no time to dwell on such thoughts like the present! (Screencap from "The Cutie Mark Chronicles") Apple Bloom’s Big Day: The first thread I inserted Ingrid Marie in, this was also my first time RPing with loads and loads of cast characters. I debuted Ingrid here instead of the Apple Family Reunion RP (may it rest in peace) kinda because I didn’t want my character to drown in a sea of other Apples right off the bat. At any rate, Abby’s Big Day has been a total blast so far; not a minute goes by where a calamity doesn’t happen. It was this thread where I learned that WoE RP is at its most memorable when you’re out inflicting comedic misery on both other characters and your own. A RP isn't as fun if it's only about calmly eating out, shopping, or et cetera. Seriously; the reason your RPs may be dying is because not enough hijinks are going on in it. Nanny and the Professor: Another early thread for Ingrid, this RP was the point where I finally learned to stop caring about having my characters stick around just their home city. Additionally, we got to see Ingrid in a classroom environment for the first time teaching unicorn foals magic. Finally, this is the story where Ingrid meets Mojo’s clumsy Misty Magic for the first time; they’ll meet again in the thread below. This thread kinda stalled, but hopefully it'll become active once again. The Magic Counselor Is In: The biggest reason I envisioned Ingrid Marie as a counselor and not a teacher is because simply put, I wanted to RP Ingrid on the job. Since there’s not a whole lot of apped magic student characters, I went with the counseling gig as she’ll always interact on a one-on-one basis with characters. Onto the RP itself; I believe this was the first RP thread I’ve ever created if I recall correctly. I have to thank both Lux and Mojo for really bringing this thread to life so far, and I sincerely hope other RPers will bring their gifted unicorn students here too to inflict magic-assisted disaster upon Ingrid’s office. Hopefully, Counselor Marie will do what she can to advise her pupils on how to manage their magic abilities. (Screencap from "The Cutie Mark Chronicles") Fire Meets Fire: I’m not sure how much time Lux and Phil originally wanted to have their OCs Fire Heart and Spirit Flame (hence the RP's title) spend visiting Princess Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns, but with their permission, this thread has really turned into a great worldbuilding RP with Ingrid as the tour guide. I really liked all the chances we got to envision all sorts of practical spells, magic tools, and enchantments. I'm particularly proud of how I described all the complicated processes behind magic teleportation (which unicorn OCs shouldn't do unless it's their special talent). Thanks to this thread, I can definitely see how Equestria could use unicorn magic in place of various modern-day tech like air conditioning and such. Fun fact: I didn't learn until I started setting up the "dragon egg" scenario that magic student OCs in Mane RP are not supposed to take the egg hatching test. I had to put a lampshade on the whole thing so that I wouldn't look too silly. The Magic Guild: Technically this RP hasn’t started yet, but Clair’s upcoming thread promises to be whole loads of fun for the entire (magic) family. As Ingrid’s getting on in years, she’ll take a back-seat in this thread to let younger guild members shine. Of course, she’ll play important roles both as a mentor and as an advocate for the guild. If you have anypony who’s interested in the magical arts (and not just unicorns), sign up your character for this RP today! ----------------------- That’s a wrap for today. Next week, I’ll be back with my usual spotlight article assuming everything goes to plan. If you’ve got a RP character here that you’d like for me to write about, give me a shout and we can arrange an interview. For now those, this is Bell signing off the rest of the year.

  14. hi hi I'm afraid my impression of this episode was: "What the hay did I just watch?" There were some funny moments, especially in the middle when Rarity and Rainbow Dash got involved, but I found myself enjoying those moments particularly because they pulled the spotlight away from Applejack and Spike's totally awkward and incomprehensible dilemma. I guess the whole concept of Spike's "Dragon Code," broke my suspension of disbelief and it never recovered. And he was still doing it with Twilight at the end, which left me with a really skeezy feeling to wrap things up with. I mean, who actually does that? People with dependency issues need to learn how to function on their own, not just bounce from one giver to the next. I was surprised that Applejack didn't grow a backbone, because even Fluttershy figured out how to say "No," in Putting Your Hoof Down. I dunno, I guess there wasn't anything that I found particularly bad about this episode, but there wasn't anything that I particularly liked either. (Also: The 3D models felt weird and out of place, but not terribly so.)

  15. Weak episode. It had some good moments but there were too many Idiot Balls being passed around. Then again, story was by Dave Polsky and it was written by Merriwether, so I wasn't expecting much anyway. I'm fine with people liking this episode though. I could argue why I think it's lackluster, but I don't like it mostly because of my own tastes. Hopefully the next episode won't be as weak, despite the fact it's also written by Polsky.

  16. Personal, moral, ethical, Dragon code! Wait, Timberwolves were going to eat Spike? I thought they were just territorial, being as they are made of wood and don't appear like they can actually eat... O_o Lol, why does forever always have terrible implications in this show? XD Ahahaha, Rainbow dash is basically writing a self insert fanfic novel. Alright, why are there places in this episode where the animation looks a bunch more smooth than usual? "I'm going to have Spike save me from a Timberwolf!" NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG! You've defeated the minions! Now time for the boss battle!

  18. I am a drawer and designer of OCs, so that's mostly what you'll be seeing in this thread. Note, I do not vector in any fashion. All of these were hand drawn, and not traced. Some were just heavily referenced from show poses. Pearl Light (Earth Pony OC) My secondary OC, Pearl Necklace, is featured in this art. Dawn of the Six (Featuring multiple OCs. The only one that belongs to me is the tan unicorn mare, Artsy Dreamscapes) The other OCs include: Klopp Thunderhead, the white pegasus stallion to the left. (Klopp's OC, another new member who just joined here alongside me) Nicolas Quill, the tan earth pony stallion in the middle. (Nicolai-B's OC of DA) Flareth, the green earth pony mare in the middle. (Flareth13's OC of DA) Jack Stache, the blue unicorn stallion with Artsy. (Blinkingsky's OC of DA. Designed by me) Violet Fox, the purple pegasus mare to the right. (AnthpathicZora's OC of DA) Artsy Dreamscapes Complete Reference (Unicorn OC) This is a detailed reference for my primary OC and ponysona, Artsy Dreamscapes. The cutie mark? It represents creativity and originality, being a symbol that Artsy herself designed in her artistic endeavors. Queen Amaterasu (Alicorn OC belonging to PuddingValkyrie of DA) Osseous "Bones" (Klopp's Unicorn OC) Springtime Shine (Earth Pony OC) Made for Hasbro's pony OC contest a while back. Didn't even make it into the finalists, sadly. I worked very hard to make this one fit into the show. Dreamless Features a depressed Artsy in a pose based on Pinkamina Diane Pie.

  21. I began with a vague idea: Doctor Whooves attempts to avoid an embarrassing situation. Which Angie drew as: Phil figured that this meant: Concerns are evident as Derpy starts reading something she probably shouldn't. After which, Fawkes gave us: Which Browneh described as: Derpy, Doing some VERY intensive necromancy studies And then Weesh drew this for us: Tales was on the ball with this line: Derpy dreaming of telling Luna good news, which she simple facehooves at. Leading to Davroth's illustration of the situation: And Linkhopper identified this as: Derpy dreams of breaking the news that princess luna is pregnant. And then Starstorm drew this cute pic: Ping ended up going with: A wingless, iris-less Derpy contemplates the ridiculous concept of a bipedal, pregnant Luna. Mr. Saucepans jumped in at the last minute with: Leading us to the final line from Cathalos: Derpy can't understand why Luna is all fat. Thank you all for another wonderful game! We got from "Doctor Whooves attempts to avoid an embarrassing situation." to "Derpy can't understand why Luna is all fat." This is why I love this game!

  22. Main Article Here: Post Apparently, the rights to the name TSR (the original Dungeons & Dragons company) were bought up my Gary Gygax's children. They have since started planning a gaming magazine that's apparently going to release this month. I, for one, am absolutely stoked! I love table-top gaming a great deal! Let's discuss this, shall we?

  23. All of my OC's are aspects of myself in some way or another...Lilia, who was my first, is studious and determined to do things right, even at her own personal cost. Cherry, Lilia's twin, is fun and sweet, but has a streak of rebel in her. Sandy loves the waters of the Bay and can't stand to see it covered in debris. Shadowe is the innocence of youth, despite being blind. Cosmo is....well, she is what I've wanted to be: far more fashion forward and assertive. Hope is the creativity that comes from deep within. Charming Masquerade is the one that best represents the path I've chosen to walk. If he gets approved: Thunder Struck, the hopeless romantic that likes sewing projects in his spare time. Sadly, I am all of the above mixed together...and it's hard to not love each character for the bits of me that they represent. Though their ideas were based off of other ideas in my head when they came to be (mostly, it was finding a look that matched the story that was hard!)
