  4. Lykos - The Beast Within Since before antiquity there have been stories of ponies who have had the touch of a wild side in them. It was spoken of as a curse by some and a blessing by others. These tales change from place to place, but one thing always remains the same: that golden glow. In some cases these feral ponies are spoken of in legends. Stallions or mares who — as great warriors — faced armies of enemies with the ferocity of a wolf and running them.off the field like sheep. These legends, though, were not always spoken of in a positive light. One well known legend, that of the Lykos tribe, would stand to be the first instance in which this condition appeared. There was of a great family of Pegasus before the formation of a unified tribe of ponies. While the land was still filled with disorganized tribes, a greedy clan sought to form and hoard wealth, keeping much from their fellow ponies in need. A unicorn wizard disguised himself in hopes of saving the family from their own selfishness and greed. Under the guise of searching for shelter and food from the family: though more than capable of affording a single visitor they would give to her naught but rotten hay and dirty water. All that was offered for a bed was as sheet upon the floor of a barn. Treated as such, the old wizard cursed the family with a voracious curse that fed off their greed. Onto them, the Lykos tribe, all would become the beasts that they acted like. From there the curse spread. As countries become denser in population the original bloodline became thinner so the curse had to find other ways to pass on, to survive. It became virulent in nature, aggressive as the beasts it created. After so many generations the curse became stronger by latching onto new prey. To do so it had to find new ways of infecting. Now scratches and bites could infect the most robust of beings. In the past many of these cursed beings were cast out of society unable to be controlled, but many sought to remain in their tribes and learned to cope with their wild sides. There is no known permanent cure for the curse, but there are many ways to control it. In many, more distant lands: imprisonment was the best solution for an ancient question: how do you stop a wild beast? Lykos manifest during the phases of the months where the light of the harvest moon is full, becoming more predominant during the winter months where the nights were longer. They grow long, sharp teeth, though in the case of others fur and feathers become distinctly shaggy and body mass increases by at least ten pounds. Fighting becomes instinct, the sense of smell increases and one completely loses their ability to use magic in lieu of a heightened sense for battle and gain in physical prowess. With so many strengths come in weight, an excess, of weaknesses such as Poison Joke rendering the beasts completely unconscious, noxious smells stopping them cold, and various traps and cages that would hold any other critter. -Journal of 100 Curses; #25

  5. Listening and watching his second born, there was a broad smile on the older Kirin's muzzle with visible pride as he listened to him show his concern for the guard - as well as straighten out the ruffling he had given him. He'd get him later, most definitely. Nopony was free of his fatherly ruffling now that he was back and he felt like he had a lot of that to catch up to most certainly, the playful older gentlecolt wouldn't be swayed from more pleasant evenings with his family and the staff he had equaited to part of the homestead. "And I missed all of you...I can only imagine how busy you've all been with everything," That concern always rode high on Akarui's brow, as it had with all his children, the worry of the country's weight baring down on their shoulders. Ryu was the Shogun whilst Ishi and Kaze were prince and princess, those were some hefty titles to carry here and he wondered if it ever got too much. He never let it show, not truly, nobody wanted to see their parent overly concerned or worried, worry and anxiety was a cold that caught quickly after all. "But I'm sure you've done wonderfully as usual, including keeping an eye on that little whirlwind you call a sister." He smiled. And boy did it grow at Ishi's intrigue as he raised a hoof to pat at the gently wrapped parcels, a chuckle escaping him with a hefty tone as it escaped the large stallion's chest. "All in due time, Ishi, I want to give them to all of you...I couldn't rightly go somewhere new and not bring back something for all of my children could I?" The playfulness in his tone was palpable, despite any noble baring or quiet dignity the Kirin might've perceived to others - at home he was a playful old soul that wanted to bring joy to his family.

  6. Nensho hummed to himself, laying his head down on his front hooves like a dog would. Well, she had received the message, so there was nothing more for that at the moment. He decided to remain silent for the moment, watching the others as they spoke amongst themselves. He wasn't sure how long he would be helping this group out anymore, seeing as she was talking about staying in there until she was needed. Definitely long enough to get her there, wherever she was going.

  8. An Xiang bit her lip, and her ears flattened backwards for a moment. She was expecting a response like this truth be told, as in many was it was not a very well phrased question for what she was really getting at. She inwardly cursed her own lack of experience in this regard, surely one better prepared would have a less awkward way of getting the information they needed. Still, newfound shame aside, An Xiang did at least manage to get a few pieces of important information out of the caribou. For one thing, she learned his leg was missing. Given the way her patient was sprawled out on the ground, that hadn't been immediately clear. Second, while it was clear from his voice that he was not doing well, he was conscious enough to be making noise and have some awareness of his surroundings. It meant things were not as bad as they could have been. Fortunately the caribou made a request, which was enough to bring An Xiang out of her thoughts. He needed water, which made sense if he just recently washed ashore. Who could tell how long he'd been out at sea? Two others had arrived while that initial conversation had taken place. An Xiang probably would have found it more comforting if they didn't make such a strange sight, one being a unicorn with strange adornments, while the other was a diamond dog. Fortunately, the diamond dog was at least slightly familiar, even if she and An Xiang had never spoke to one another. They weren't her focus right now though. “Right, water!” An Xiang said, already turning and running back toward town. It would give her a chance to help the wounded caribou, and get away from this awkward situation, at least for a time. She did so enjoy when she could multitask. “If either of you know the local doctor,” she called over her shoulder as she left, “could you please get them?” An Xiang would return in a minute or two.

  9. For some perspective, she's half the size of the wolfies that roam around here. Both are a little bit smaller than this star:

  12. "Heh heh," Yù Yuè chuckled as Silverheart inched his way closer to her; "We have employed jesters in the Imperial Palace for thousands of years, although I imagine there are substantial differences between ours... and the ones you're accustomed to." Silver wasted no time in laying on the adorable sweet-talking. Empress Yuè would have thought herself immune to such romantic charms, it helped to know that he — and his younger sister for that matter — were unicorns of pure hearts, whereas the Empress would have distrusted any other who dared speak the exact same words. "Then I hope you find the courage to invite this special someone one day Silver," Yuè coyly teased; "Once you've found a way to suppress your allergies, of course. Flower petals don't enjoy being sniffled at, as we all know." Flirting time didn't last much longer, as Yuè quietly tsked tsked under her breath upon hearing the various rumors being woven. "Baseless gossip," the smug Empress dismissed out-of-hoof with a gesture of her uninjured foreleg, not appearing flustered in the slightest; "Only a weak empress pays heed to idle, attention-seeking speculation that will be forgotten about within a fortnight. Rest assured, my experience in the mountains was, well... harrowing, to say the least, but the Shogun and I worked together and pulled through."

  14. A Qilin, unicorn and dog. If it was not be being in a horrific about of pain Calder may have just died from laughing as he watched the three in short order show up around him and he counted his blessing for knowing the basis to speak too both the unicorn and the Qilin. It will not be pretty, but it worked for speaking to slaves. Gathering himself he looks over at the Qilin, not brother to try moving he just follows her with his eyes and speaks. ["Leg gone. Gone, look alright you? Of course, alright, so alright. No, hurt. Lots of hurt. No alright."] He muttered in dry choked breaths as he forced himself to speak in a broken and heavily accented way, but his words were understandable to the Qilin. Next he looked at the Unicorn… He was even worse with pony but worth a try. “Yes require of help yes, do look good? No, look leg, gone, Why all ask if need help, do all day start missing leg on sand?” He asked snorting with pain as he looked to the dog… what the heck did she know how to speak? The only one he knew was chained to a seat to row and only new the words to stop and go… But at least this one seemed smarter. “All three ask if fine, all three see I lost leg, lay in sand. I worry if all three need help more.” He added trying to stand up on shaking legs just to have them give out as he falls back on the sand. “... but help need yes, please help. water, need water.”
