  1. Rose was quick to shake off the strangeness that was Aloe and Lotus, trotting ahead for a last minute check of the services. All seemed to be in order. "I've gained quite the bit of experience myself working under Aloe. Hopefully my skills are up to par." Grinning and turning towards the two, she gestured all around. "Anything at all, Mayor Rich. What'll it be?"
  2. "And yet I was able to rule over the Andalusian seas for centuries through fear and intimidation. There's not a port pirate or otherwise that does not know the name S-" she paused sharply. "That does not know my name. The Mare of The Mist. The West Wind." "Only the Royal Navy still resists me, and even then I was able to bribe half a fleet into turning on itself, and blackmail the rest. Pirates fear my magic, others my cunning- ultimately, they all fall in line or suffer a cruel fate." She sniffed, and Twilight may be able to see a glimpse of her old, terrible self in that expression. Disdainful eyes glaze over the pirate patrons, although her mind was in another time entirely. "I could probably take over Port Anguilla with minimal effort, and maintain control for centuries. One benefit of being immortal is that I can keep an eye on trends, and pick up on patterns. Learn what families to trust the least, and how their foals and grandfoals act. Their goals, ambitions- stoke the flames and tie a noose around their necks if they decide to turn that fire on me." Her horn flared to life again, black and green and purple swirling in a disquieting misasma. Then she closed her eyes, and the Rose Twilight knew returned with a small, tired smile. "... I'm calling it. Liar ~" She slowly lifted her own cup, revealing two 5's, two 1's, and a single 2
  3. Rose didn't fight it, and she never had any intention to. As the world melted away and she was transported to a more familiar place, she found herself... Relaxing, despite present company. "Thank you, Hou." Facing the crashing waves, she closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, taking in the rich salty air. Her ears perked towards the crashing waves, and she imagined herself submerged in their cool embrace. Underwater, she didn't have to fight gravity. She didn't have to endure the relentless sun. She floated in a void, relinquished from the troubles of life. Here, she reached within, searching for this inner light Hou spoke of. Reaching out into the abyss for something she had never sought before, yet was intimately familiar with.
  4. This is the sort of place a less civilized Rose Compass would call a sanctuary, in that case. And in the end, the existence of pirates wouldn't threaten her ultimate goal of improving the health of all living creatures. In fact... This place might serve as excellent testing grounds for some less socially acceptable experiments. Experiments she should probably keep Twilight in the dark about. This place was really bringing the dark side out in her. "Four twos." Twilight must be pretty confident that there are more twos on the table. "That's a rather funny thing, coming from an immortal, nigh omnipotent sovereign. The way you talk about peace and Harmony, I'd be inclined to beleive that, at some point in the distant future, you're liable to crystalize the world nto a perfect picture of 'harmony.' Or do you deny this?"
  5. Rose wasn't entirely certain she wanted to experiment with 'liquid candy' when it concerned the health of her broodling, but they'd discuss that later. For now, they had more immediate matters to attend too: such as the arrival of her new friend, the good Mayor. "Ah, Mayor! How good of you show up ~" In a flash of green, she reverted to her usual form. "This visit is on me, Aloe." Trotting over to Spoiled, she offered a hoof in greeting with a bright smile. "Your timing is quite convenient. My love's sister actually just arrived. They..." She looked back at the two. "Really are identical twins..."
  6. A whole city full of outlaws, and Twilight is fully aware of them? Why hasn't she done anything about them if they're so numerable? "Queen Moor have this place torched by the Royal Navy if she knew about it. Why do you allow its continued existence if it harbors such prominent criminals?" Tapping once against the table, two empty cups teleported from the bar to their table, as well as her own mug. She took a swig of her own, nodding appreciatively. They know what they're doing, at least, even if it seems they're too incompetent to hide. Five more taps herald a pair of dice, five each. Taking her own cup and dive in two hooves, she rigorously shakes it- then slams it down on the table. Let the game begin, Princess.
  7. Lotus' enthusiasm was infectious, and even Rose found herself motivated by her work ethic. "Ah yes, Rarity. The Element of Vanity, right?" Rose chuckled, using her magic to make some last-minute arrangements of her own. Aloe was the one who handled all the vital functions of the spa- Rose was really just a helping hoof. With Lotus here, she was probably completely obsolete! "And we did service a kelpie once! What was her name again? Aqua?" She tried to think back to that encounter, but not much of note occured behind some magical shenanigans. "As for candy..." In a sudden burst of light, Rose's lower half was replaced with the tail of a fish. She slapped it wetly against the floor as a bubble of water appeared around her head. She made dramatic gulping motions before letting it splash onto the floor, where it immidiately began to evaporate. "Albedo is still a guppie. She won't be able to eat... Anything solid until she reaches her amphibious stage."
  8. What a lovely reminder of Rose's past. The changeling wasn't entirely taken with the setting, but it was familiar enough that she could take comfort in it. What she couldn't stand for was Twilight's absolute butchery of pirate culture. She couldn't help it, she laughed, uproarious and unabashed. "Oh..." She wiped an invisible tear from her eye, slowly shaking her head. "You do realize pirates never talked like that?" Luckily, Rose had actually commissioned a real uniform appropriate for her station some time ago, before Blueblood's wedding. It appeared on her in a flash of light- not as showy as she'd have liked, but then when she made an entrance, it usually involved terror and dark magic. Or a different Rose did that, at least. "This place feels... Familiar somehow, but I know I've never been here. Where are we, if I might ask?" She waved her hoof in the air, dark magic manifesting at the tip of her horn in inky black and purple. A hex appeared around their table- it would instill mind-numbing fear in anyone who decides to "interrupt" their game. Why did she do it? It felt good... It's something she did many a time before, so why not now?
  9. Unfortunately, Rose had never anticipated her particular pending status. She'd run a few tests, obviously, but she was largely in the dark when it came to how her changeling body was handling a pony foal. She wasn't concerned, though. If anything went wrong, she could fix it. After all, she had all the time in the world. "Yes?" She blinked, still caught off-guard by the mare's reaction. "It was just one glass. My body should purge the alcohol before it even reaches the foal..."
  10. Rose perked up at this, beaming. "It is! My little Albedo hatched just recently, and our two eggs are no doubt a short while away themselves. Not to mention..." Her smile softened, and she failed to suppress a giggle. "We're both expecting. I do wonder how our pony foals with fair, especially with changeling siblings." A rapidly growing family, but Rose would probably wait awhile before expanding it any more. She wasn't going to raise her children as a queen, but a mother. A doting mother, at that.
  11. "Ah yes." Here, Rose found her smile returning. "You've been a great help to me, Spoiled. I would like to show my gratitude, and I can't help but notice that you've seemed rather stressed lately. How would you like to visit the spa sometime? On me." Perhaps the invitation didn't come out quite as gracefully as she'd like, but the offer was still out there. There wasn't much else she could do for the mare that wasn't business related, and this felt just formal enough that a mare like Spoiled could accept without feeling uncomfortable.
  12. A game did come to mind, actually. Liar's dice. It was an old game, invented by bored sailors and perfected by the most duplicitous curs to call the seas their home. Rose amongst them, at least a less empathetic version of her. True, I have had little time to engage in such frivolous activities when not spending time with my beloved. Have you heard of liar's dice? An image of two cups and a hoofful of dice would appear in Twilight's mind, complete with an old rickety table that could easily be seen on any ship-of-the-line. It requires some deception, but the fun is in the guessing. Probabilities and possibilities. On occasion, brazen creatures would challenge me to a game, unaware of my true nature. She chuckled, the sound coming out more like chittering from her procyonid form. They were always so surprised when I called their bluffs. Pride and confidence truly are the downfall of many a great creature. Give me a moment to recall the rules and I'll relay them to you, if you like.
  13. Rose paused, looking up from the plate of rainbow-shifting corals. "So I should broadcast my intentions before engaging in any strange activities?" She had a thoughtful look about her, pushing the plate away with a sigh. Then she chuckled, a rueful sound. "Ah... I was raised up by a pony that didn't love me, servants that barely tolerated me, then lived in isolation for over a century. It shouldn't be a surprise that I'm this socially inept." Straightening up, she adopted a more professional façade. "Thank you, Spoiled. I'll... Try to tone it down. Think about my actions before committing to them." Or she will try, at the least.
  14. Snorting, Rose waved off the mere motion. "Oh, I know I'm strange. What normal pony sets out on a multi-century crusade to cure mortality? But I meant in other ways. There's an underlying wariness in that filly, and a sliver of fear as well. I worry that I frighten her in my... Erratic behavior." Sighing, she began idly transmuting the scraps left on the plate in front of her. First into an inanimate colorless cube, then some writhing tentacle- then any random thing that came to mind. All of it mundane by her standards, and easily replicated by any potion she made.
  15. "Two things." Rose paused, a good portion of that casual 'grace' she exhibited earlier melting away to reveal a much more timid creature. She shuffled her hooves, then took the seat the filly had just vacated. Looking the mare right in the eyes, she spoke in a frank tone. "First: please be honest with me. How do you think that interaction went? The social aspects. I... It has been a very long time since I conducted business in any cordial manner. Business such as this, at any rate. I fear I may have come off as... Strange."
  16. Rose compiled her findings into a sort of mental 'report', already formulating her own remedies for the various minor (and not so minor) maladies she'd detected. Sending this Twilight's way, she followed with a skip in her step. "Plans? Plans were for my predesessor. Today, I embrace chaos." She giggled, although she had so little knowledge on actual chaos magic she may as well be ignorant. She was just being silly anyway. "I really meant it when I said today was just a lazy day for me, Twi." Morphing into a raccoon, of all things, she scampered up Twilight's legs to settle on her back, curling up with a satisfied grin. Then a thought hit her. You know... I could show you what would happen if you did spent a little more time in there, she voiced in a casual tone.
  17. Rose couldn't help a warm smile growing as she listened to Aloe passionately detail the state of the spa. It was like a second home to her... Or home, really. The nascant queen couldn't say she'd ever seen Aloe so passionate about the spa, or anything other than personal activities. Was it all because Lotus was here now? Would it last? That last thought was a serious hit to her mood, and she found her smile melting into a small, concerned frown as she considered the ramifications of Lotus's arrival and inevitable departure. But did it have to be inevitable? Focusing on the blue mare, she siddled up next to Aloe's side and nuzzled her, throwing a foreleg over her withers to draw her close. "Yes, the life of a masseuse is ever frought with excitement. We would be honored If you would join us. Perhaps after work we can introduce you to Albedo? Rubedo and Nigredo have yet to hatch." She grieves your absense, she added mentally, empathically sharing her worry with the mare. This is the happiest I have seen her since I came into her life. I do not believe she will ever truly be complete without you.
  18. Rose was saddened by the news, but she understood that both individuals had matters they must attend to. Summoning a smile she wasn't completely feeling, she trotted over to offer the filly a hoof. "Next time I may simulate a real drink, but until then, it has been a pleasure ~" She'd wait a moment- just incase her peers wished to exchange any more pleasantries- before addressing Spoiled directly. "Oh, Mayor, I'd like to speak with you before you leave. If you don't mind." There were two subjects on her mind, one perhaps less relevant than the other.
  19. Rose considered this... It didn't take very long to consider. "If you want me to get in sync with my mind and soul, shouldn't you be recommending meditation techniques instead? Look," she gestured out towards the forest. "The forest is calm, the water is still-" mostly. She stared at it... And the longer she looked, the more she yearned for the open sea. To feel the tropical breeze against her coat, to smell salt in the air. To get in touch with her primal nature. "Or perhaps... We should take this ritual to the sea." There, at least, the water was perfect. The air was perfect. She'd be in her element, instead of trotting circles around a bunch of terrestrial flora. "Hou, I don't know how much you know about my kind- or maybe a better analogy would be seaponies- but... We're connected to the sea. I'll follow your suggestions- I trust you that much- but if you really want me in a state of zen... It should be in the water." She held up a hoof... Then remembered that she just dismissed all of her simulacrums. An awkward throat clearing later, and a bottle appeared in her hoof, swirling and blue. "Seapony transmutation," she explained.
  20. Rose chuckled heartily at Lotus' question. "Oh, we did more than that." Leaning forward, she whispered conspiratorially- even if Aloe was not even an inch away from the blue mare. "She likes rope ~" "Anyway," she pulled back, reasserting a more relaxed posture. "Aloe is right. I would love to help out more, but even I have my limits." Vague limits at best, if she were being modest. She herself could staff the entirety of Aloe's spa with disguised simulacrums, but that would be exhausting to an unimaginable degree. Untenable, in short. She took another moment to really access the mare before her, her horn flickering with a glimmer of turquoise light as she got a read on Lotus' physical health. "Your timing is quite ironic, we were actually planning on visiting you within the week."
  21. Her apology delivered, Rose largely felt as though she had become a third wheel in this conversation. Opting to allow the two to map out their own future events, she turned to her own food and focused on it for awhile, cleaning off over a quarter of her plate with just her own thoughts for company. That's not to say she didn't still enjoy herself just a little. Those last few sips, coincidentally, would taste like something completely different each time until it was gone. The last sip was literally grape juice, just as the cherry on top. Surely that wasn't crossing any lines, right? Hmm... Will Albedo ever have as much social grace as the good Mayor?
  22. Rose listened, steadfastly refraining from taking too much offense to what Hou said. It was true, Rose was a scientist by heart, and she largely viewed magic as a science, and alchemy as chemistry (but chemistry with magic.) To be perfectly honest, Rose wasn't the greatest of sorcerers, and almost all of her 'magic' is dark magic or with craft, which is all largely ritualistic. But still... She couldn't see how this would help her sync with her mind and soul. "I don't know if you've noticed, friend Hou, but this body is alchemically enhanced." As she spoke, she gently lifted Albedo off her back and placed her next to the pond, affixing an anchoring spell to it so she wouldn't roll away. "In my limited experience, even soul magic only goes so far when applied to the physical body." That being, Rose had no idea if soul magic could bolster the body. She'd only ever used it for spiritual transplants and enhancing magic in some peculiar ways.
  23. Rose quietly retrieved the towels and levitated them over to their proper place as she watched the exchange. She'd picked up a hauntingly familiar signature earlier in the day, but she couldn't say for certain it was Aloe's counterpart or not. Seeing her in the flesh... Rose understood immidiately what she'd meant by twin. If she didn't know any better, she'd say this Lotus pony was a color-inverted clone. Of course, she gave the two plenty of time to reconsile before approaching herself, slowly at first so as not to startle them. "You really do look exactly alike," she noted aloud, smiling cordially and offering a hoof in greeting (once their hug was concluded, of course.) "Rose Compass, alchemist and part-time massues."
  24. Rose was following and nodding along... all the way up to the last part. "... Excuse me?" As a changeling queen, and an accomplished scientist, Rose was rather adept when it came to subjects concerning the mind and body. Research has allowed her to tap into the soul as well, granted she was not as experienced as Hou herself, and would likely never surpass her. That is to say, she could run ten laps... around a port, maybe. Emphasis on maybe. The body, no matter how enhanced, still had limits. Albedo, meanwhile, attempted a jailbreak on her bubble. Who could say when she learned it, but that little horn of hers lit up and she.. well... she threw her magic at the bubble like a child throwing a toy at the wall. It has similarly disappointing results.
  25. Rose was just seeing their last customer out when break time rolled around. Usually, that meant spending some quality time with Aloe for the next twenty minutes, followed by a light lunch. Today, however, she opted instead of dedicate more time towards helping around the spa proper. It was that time, she supposed, when a pregnant mare begins experiencing the... Rougher patches of her term. She'd asked her In private not long ago, and hated to admit she hadn't realized just how exhausting the symptoms could be. It was her duty to assist in whatever ways she could, and she'd perform them to the best of her ability. Rose herself, naturally, suffered little in the way of her own pregnancy, although it was still quite the novel experience carrying a pony foal instead of eggs. She wondered, idly, how this would turn out... But enough of that, Aloe probably needs her help. "Aloe dear?" She called out, trotting into the main room, searching for the pony. "Do you need any assistance back here?"
