  1. Aloe pressed a little harder eliciting a pop from the wing joints. "Really? Don't get too many customers who ask for that. I'll try using a little more force then." She began pressing harder in a way that most would find painful and began working every fiber. It wasn't often she felt like she was using her full expertise with a customer so it was a welcome change to be able to work more freely with a tougher customer. She caught the sound of humming from her other customer. Apparently she wasn't as asleep as she had though? Something seemed to be familiar about what she was humming but she couldn't place her hoof on it. "Miss Spell? I'm about halfway though here..." she paused a moment as a thought occurred to her. "Your eyes have been covered this whole time, haven't they? We actually have another customer. He's very charming you should introduce yourselves."
  2. He nodded his head to the new arrial who he also didn't recognise. "Ortana was it? I don't think I saw you at the Gallopus show either? Did you maintain your own jewelry? Or perhaps you didn't use any. Its a little hard to fit gems with that theme." "Oh, Itaily?!" Ashton asked excitedly. "I know a griffin who would love to visit. Elaine always says that the most amazing architecture is found there. She says its even better than that things in Canterlot or Cloudsdale. Is it true that the architects built those massive buildings without any magic?"
  3. Ashton stared blankly for a moment before stifling a small laugh. "Do ponies really think that?! I... I suppose actually they've thought similar things about ponies. One asked once why our family didn't have a garden if Earth Ponies could make plants grow anywhere." His father had a good laugh about that one. "I suppose there's a little truth to yours though. When somedog knows the tunnels 10 times better than yourself they can easily disappear and if you spend enough years looking for gems you start knowing what to look for when digging. Sienna is almost as good as I am and I have spells..." Another pony seemed to have crept up while he wasn't paying attention and she appeared to be hysterical with laughter. It was a little unsettling to him. "Did I say something?"
  4. Ashton, my unicorn from Rockwington, might be an option. There aren't so many parallels between the two as interesting contrasts. Sure, they're both from Aquellia but beyond that they're quite different. He's actually rather un-accustomed to being around so many ponies and while he might not show it he gets a little frustrated with some of the wishy washy ones. I could see them having some good arguments. And since neither seems the type to back down or admit they're wrong it'll likely become the best kind of argument. He actually ran into Gilda once at the running of the leaves. He was a little disappointed at how she choked at the end, but hey, there's always next year. He'd actually be interested in a training partner. Though getting Gilda to agree to train with a lame grounded pony might be a little difficult. They could run maybe run into eachother elsewhere. He usually is in the mountains around Canterlot delving into the caves for gems but he's probably going to try and take a trip out to the area under Cloudsdale. One of his friends from back home is supposed to be training there but he doesn't really know how he's going to go about getting into contact with him.
  5. Ashton's eyes were fixed on the orb. That kind of spell would be useful in his line of work thats for sure. He wouldn't need to carry around a hot lamp all the time. Though he supposed he might miss the heat when it was gone. "Well I suppose you could guide ponies underground too but that's pretty much the same isn't it?" It appeared to be a ordinary souceless light to him. Kind of like the kind inside the streetlamps in Canterlot. "Well can you tell me anything else about it? Like is it warm or does it last a long time?" he was a little envious but also honestly interested. Even though he didn't have a spell of his own he had always been interested in the specifics of the spells the others in his family could cast.
  6. Something about what the colt said caught his attention. "Huh? I always figured they would have magic classes in Equestria." When all your classmates are Griffins it kind of makes sense that the subject gets skipped over but when your classmates and neighbors are unicorns you would think at least the basic theories would get taught. "So what was it you were hoping to learn?" he was a bit eager to steer the conversation in a diffrent direction. He was happy to have the chance to change the subject.
  7. Ashton kept staring out into the square thinking back on what his own parents had told him. Really it had been his grandfather who had taught him, wanting him to start at an early age but all his advice really boiled down to was either try again or try harder. He didn't exactly have any Unicorn friends or teachers to talk about it with back home. He just assumed it was difficult for everyone at first. Of course he had gotten better at hiding the strain as years went on. Of course if most Unicorns used a different kind of focus that changed things. If he was doing it wrong since he was young how would he even learn to do it right. "I don't suppose there are any schools for Unicorns who never learned how to do magic properly are there?" his voice sounded a little bitter but still hopeful about it. Maybe he could find a book in a library somewhere. Still it was disheartening to know that he had been struggling for years with the basics. He supposed the fact that Griffin schooling never really covered magic never really helped things.
  8. The unicorn sat quietly. It was the kind of thing he didn't want to talk about, it was shameful. It was like being a griffin that couldn't fly. Maybe the reason he never asked for help is because he knew he was deficient. He gave a heavy sigh. "I don't know. I guess I wanted to figure out if I could do magic." His legs felt a little numb as he uncomfortably shifted. "I mean, I can do some things but the rest of my family. They make it look so easy. Me, I feel like my head is going to explode and I can't move or talk or I lose whatever it is I'm trying to do. That's not normal right?"
  9. "Its a little complex." he said as he turned his head back to the colt. "There's a store in town, Carousel Boutique I think. I've seen the owners designs in a few shops, they seem to use quite a few gemstones. I was hoping to sell some rubies there but the store was closed today." He paused, considering the second part of the question. "I'll probably end up going back to Canterlot for a while after this. At least until spring." He stopped. He hadn't really thought about what he would do next. He had hoped by staying in the Magical capital of Equestria his abilities would improve by osmosis or something. But he supposed leaving shortly after sunup and staying in his room all evening wasn't helping him make much progress. But he couldn't really bring himself to ask for help. Judging by the cutie mark this colt probably had more magical ability than him. He realized that he was probably staring and turned his head back to a frozen fountain in the middle of the square. "I mean... I'm trying to... Nevermind." he didn't really feel comfortable talking about it.
  10. Ashton glanced up the road. He thought he had already tried that direction, he supposed he could be wrong though. All these streets covered in snow looked pretty similar. He turned back to the colt. "Mind if I sit down for a bit?" He wormed his way out of the straps and deposited his saddlebags on the ground. He could never really muster the magic to get out of them properly. The bag slid onto the snowy ground in a heap before the unicorn sat on the other side of the bench and stared off into the distance.
  11. ((OoC: Could you establish a time of year? I'm assuming its winter, sometime after Hearthwarming's eve. If its not I can change my post to reflect the correct time of year.)) Ashton tugged futilely at his saddlebag trying to adjust it. Why did it feel so uncomfortable? Maybe it was the weather or maybe the straps were just wearing out. Either way he was eager to take a break from his wandering before seeking a place to stay for the night. Of course without any map he wasn't going to make progress all that quickly, he seemed to keep ending up in, what he guessed was, the middle of town. Few ponies seemed to be about, and fewer still weren't always engaged in conversation. The only one not occupied seemed to be a bluish pony sitting on a bench. Or he could be white, it was always hard to discern correct colors at night. The snow crunched beneath his hooves as he made his way over. He seemed to be distracted by something. He didn't want to break the colt's line of thought but after waiting a few moments the unicorn's impatience won out. "Excuse me? You wouldn't happen to know where I could find a place to stay would you?"
  12. Ashton watched the snowflakes fall outside the window as his breath fogged up the glass. The conditions were a little cramped and the roof worryingly groaned whenever a strong gust of wind blew outside but there were far worse places to stay than the Bellflower inn on the outskirts of Ponyville. He wondered if snowstorms were supposed to last this long. He had never left Aquellia before and this was his first winter but still it seemed unusual that no Pegasi were moving these clouds that had been heavily snowing since fairly early this morning. Maybe they were taking part in the Hearth Warming eve celebrations. It had never really been that big of deal back home. A small sharing of gifts and retelling of the story but to most of the citizens of Rockwington it was just a day like any other. They usually didn't even close up the shop most years. Here in Canterlot and Ponyville it was different. Looking back it was kind of foolish to think shops and stores would be open today. He had hoped to talk with some Unicorn who owned a dress shop nearby only to find they had gone to Canterlot earlier that day. From what he could gather she probably wouldn't be back for quite some time. He almost regretted coming to Ponyville at all. At first he was optimistic about being able to see a new town but none of the stores were open and most families seemed to be indoors so the streets were rather empty. All the wandering just left him with a case of homesickness. By the time he checked in at the Bellflower he was actually feeling a little bitter about the whole thing. Still he had heard a few other sets of hooves go by out in the hall since he had sat down. Maybe there were a few other ponies who couldn't be with their families this holiday. He glanced over at the set of pipes that was radiating heat into the room. At least the place was warm. So very warm... "zzz..." A brief crack sound snapped him back awake. The ceiling light and the lamp by the bed had both turned off. Snow had seemed to crawl up with window and now was blocking half of his view. He trotted over and tried to switch the lights back on. Nothing. He opened his door and took a peek out into the hallway. None of the lights were on out here either. The whole place was rather dark. Either it was already night or snow was covering the windows, probably both. He tried to muster a light spell that glowed weakly in the darkness but try as he might he couldn't walk and do magic at the same time. Instead he blundered through the darkened hallways. It wasn't so bad. He did the same thing a lot of the times in the caves. He made his way to what he thought was the front desk and rang the bell. "Hello?" he called to the darkness. Getting no response he getting no response he began rummaging behind the desk before finding a small flashlight. He switched it on and picked it up in his mouth. The lobby was deserted. No sign of the proprietor and now that he looked closer the snowshoes that had been here earlier were gone too. A small note was left on the desk. The snow was supposed to stop hours ago. I've gone into town to see if I can get somepony to move this cloud from over our heads. I'll be back in an hour or so. Aston glance to the door. Hour ago? When was this written? He tried to push open the door to get a look outside. It wouldn't budge. He tried harder this time getting it to open half an inch. Snow was piled up half a foot above his head. There was no way for him to get out. Even if there was a back door it too was probably covered in snow. He pulled the door shut before returning to the note flipping it over hoping to find more information.
  13. Aloe peeked her eyes over the edge of the reception counter where she had been hiding. It was the perilous pink pony that was laughing outside. Not that her laughing was unusual but the way she laughed... it sent double the usual amount of chills down her spine. Double the usual meaning there would be chills going down her spine laughing or not. Pinkie Pie was always an interesting customer. "W-welcome Miss Pinkie Pie... I see you brought a friend?" the blue Unicorn was completely unfamiliar to her. What was strange was the fact that Pinkie appeared to be pulling this unicorn against their will into the spa. Aloe couldn't decipher what was going on. "Can I help you?" she asked her tone fluctuating. She said it half to Pinkie Pie as a friend of the spa's most prominent regular and half to the colt seeing if he needed assistance in escaping.
  14. Woo, its just like Mario Party. I hope Snips and Snails get the Happening star for landing on the most '?' spaces.
  15. "Suit yourself Snips. I plan on still doing a little more scaring myself." she flipped her hair back and yawned. "Should be interesting if I sneak up on my sister like this tomorrow morning." It was a long walk across Ponyville to the Spa but Aloe was really too tired to talk much during the journey. She invited the two into the Spa while she went and gathered the mixture from storage. She never really got a chance to appreciate the spa late at night. The way the moonlight shone through the glass window on the ceiling and reflected of the pool in the hot tub was simply amazing. She came back a moment later with a small spray bottle. "This is the last of the remedy, but it should do. I'll need to ask Zecora to get more soon. There iss so much of it about these days, its almost as if someone is trying to grow it all over Equestria." She sprayed both colts making sure to catch the spotted areas most thoroughly.
