Yeah, scheduling burnout affects all of us; I'm going through a dry period myself that's likely to last through finals.

I had figured that life had been rough for you; let me offer whatever support I can.
Really, though, I think people in general have more of a right to sympathy from their fellow human beings that they dare to ask for these days. All this anger about "calls for attention" is nonsense; it is not fair to expect a person to suffer alone.

Well, if it's any comfort to Auntie Luna, she's not worst royal.
But yeah, The best Princess, as a Princess, is Celestia, mostly because she's had more practice at it. I think it was Malcolm Gladwell that said you needed 10,000 to be an expert at something? Celestia had 1,000 years.

Hm, I've actually had (on another site) a series of RP's that did actually build up into a collective long-running story. And it was EPIC.
Seriously, though, when I can get back into an RP'ing groove, I'd be interested in this whole story. I'm even cooking up one myself!

July wasn't a bad month for me, though August is turning out better, I think.
-
I don't think so myself. I just think that work and school are beginning again for a lot of members.

Oh, that's fantastic!

What design/tattoo are you most proud of, either from an artistic standpoint, or in terms of a customer you convinced to get one?
-
Oh, and I would like to be checked for July, just in case that wasn't clear.
-
Oh, quite neat! I'll have to step up my game for this coming month; too bad I won't have much time for RP's.
-
Maybe so. I think I ought to write a blog entry to the effect of how to design a character that one can play without exhaustion or boredom.
-
Very good advice! I feel in a lot of cases, my time getting acquainted with the boards could serve as an object lesson, especially in which of my characters thrived and which didn't (I'm still kind of guilty about Norton Breakbeak, but that thread just got too exhausting for me.)

One of my life ambitions is to become a fixture of this site, that I may appear in these glorious little fictions.

@Chrysalis:
Like I said, I really do like that you're trying out these new things, and naturally there's going to be a lot of growing pains as one tries to figure out how to run them; I learned that from my own modding/admin days.

Plus, this isn't an adventure or even combat designated roleplay...has more to do with horror. At least in my view.
I know that now; your thread did a good job of getting that point across, and when I realized that, I had a lot of fun putting Prince Blueblood through the paces. I just wish I'd known that at the outset; I'm not usually a big fan of horror, so I miss the tropes and cues.

I actually find it funny that the moment the changelings arrived people's first instinct was "COMBAT AHH YEAH"
And not some other more pony method of solving the problem.
You startle us with a different context, we revert to an earlier type. My point is, a little prep work might have prevented that; just a head's up and reminder that "This is still pony."

That's very interesting!
I don't have much in specific in the way of commentary; most of my character development tends to happen in RP's; a lot of the time simply interacting with other players will bring out facets of a character that I hadn't considered much in profile writing, or suggest routes of development that I would never have thought of on my own. What sort of things Virtue's travel companions would bring out of him might prove interesting. Perhaps a nakama would give him guidance towards operating in a family?

For a non-ship, how does Prince Blueblood become an amateur detective a la Lord Peter Wimsey?
-
Thanks for the support, guys; I may write up more posts in this vein as they occur to me.
-
Aw, that was a cute story!
As for what to write next... I dunno, music, I guess?

Nice to see someone else who likes the song, though when I actually tried to sing it, it didn't fit exactly.
-
You know, you've inspired me to try my hoof at this as well: http://www.canterlot.com/blog/287/entry-1971-equestrian-refugee-u2-song-parody/
Nice job here!

Hm, sounds like a pretty ambitious goal here. I'm interested to see your perspective on this, especially since "High-power" RP's of quality are rare (but possible; I've done a few on other sites that turned out very well).

Oh, my bad, I thought it was a parody of the LIGHTS song (which you should also listen to: http://youtu.be/B4JABTb6v7k )
Buck Up! Imagination's Guide to Combat RP for Suckers! Part 1: Rules of the Game

I'm very glad to see a series like this! I've had a lot of fun with combat RP's in the past, but I had to limit them to players I knew well, for a lot of the reasons outlined above.
I think the biggest issue (one which I'm certain you'll cover in detail later) is dealing with undetermined outcomes. Assuming a fairly equal balance between players, at least one of them is going to have to make an OOC decision about whether to lose or not. If this decision is made too early, the RP isn't as fun, as you're just going through the motions for a predetermined outcome; and if it's delayed too long, the whole thing drags very unpleasantly.
