I don't fully understand the rage of Day One DLC. Can someone explain without the rage?

I think a lot of onus has to fall on the Publisher for this, as opposed to the developer. The whole structure seems designed to make the customer feel as if they've been conned, even if, rationally speaking, they aren't. If there is content on the disk that I have purchased that is locked behind a paywall, I am not excited to pay more money. I feel that the sticker price was artificially inflated. ...king boards of directors bring to mind publishers like EA, which is a whole other can of worms. Hidden costs are not good marketing of your brand. "Expansion Available Online" on box covers would probably go a long way towards alleviating rage.

The rage comes from the purely emotional side, which is why it makes no sense if you approach it from a business logistical perspective. It's anger at withheld content, and the idea that the company owes a consumer a full product AT release rather than cutting it up into pieces for trickled distribution later on.
