  1. From the album: MLP Characters

I was pretty bored today and wanted to draw something, and after re-watching "The Best Night Ever" from season 1, I decided to try drawing the butterfly gal. Fluttershy is my least favorite of the main six characters, but there's something about the curls in her done-up GGG mane that I really like. That, and her psychotic break in that episode still cracks me up. Fluttershy (c) Hasbro
  2. ...This was ridiculous. And not a ridiculousness of the normal variety, no. This was...Ponyville. However ridiculous it was, however, even Nocturne couldn't so blithely spend his bits when he was planning for an extended stay in the town to do more extended research in the Everfree. And when he'd passed the sign advertising the sale of bushels of apples for a fairly cheap price, he hadn't been able to pass by, not while he was still scavenging for supplies, tools, and needing to pay rent besides. He supposed with all else, he should just be grateful at the cheap buy that would land him a veritable treasure trove of sustenance for a good while, especially if he dried them out. Dried fruit constituted less water, true, but also less sugar. A good travel food to take with him into the bowels of the dark and unforgiving forest. Though, why the sales pitch of what seemed like a country fair kissing booth, the darkly colored Unicorn hadn't a clue. Perhaps this, 'Applejack', was a particularly famous pony around these parts. Sweet Apple Acres certainly seemed like a cornerstone in the small farming community, one he'd heard referenced several times during his frequent visits. And as its owner - co-owner? Inheritor? The orchard was a family business, he was certain - perhaps the novelty of receiving a kiss from the mare impressed enough upon the local populace to entice business. The lowered price was doing just as well for him, thank you very much. "Hn," is what Nocturne muttered to himself as he trot up to the back of the line, annoyance flickering over his features at the various ponies all waiting in front of him. After a moment the annoyance passed however, allowing the darkly colored Unicorn to relax slightly as he patiently waited his turn, pale eyes fixed unerringly on the orange mare behind the sales booth. Patience was a favored pastime of researchers, after all. A speciality, one might say.

    Kaede Katsuo

    From the album: OC Art

These OC ideas won't leave me aloooooone, how am I suppose to focus on other things, like eating? Or sleeping?! Katsuo here is a Longma, though he and the community he grew up in used the native term Ryuma. Either or, they are basically the Pegasus equivalent in the far east, sharing similar traits with their Qilin/Kirin cousins. He's got the soul of a wandering samurai - or at least, what a samurai might be if a small child picked up a book and read about them. At the start of RP he's going to be wandering, searching for some purpose in his life...because I surely don't know what that purpose is suppose to be hnnnnrgh. Unlike most of my characters, this guy was apped sort of get his character idea out of my head, not because I have a really huge urge to RP him. Who knows though, I really like how his design and character came out - maybe he'll wander his way into a few open threads.

    Sunburst

Only about once every other day or so, not nearly enough, hmph. What Bellosh said! Some Qilin in art are depicted with their entire bodies covered with scales (because I think they're actually suppose to be more like horse-shaped dragons rather than dragon-horse hybrids), but when I designed Mei I decided to go with fur and some scattered scales, because I thought that'd fit better with the MLP universe.

They've only been in one thread together, but Mei and Limi have gotten along pretty nicely. Maybe a little, too nicely... This took a lot longer to finish than I had originally planned, especially since that original plan had been to quickly doodle something out of an RP. Half because I forced myself to try different poses that I normally wouldn't try, and half because of Mei. Her design means she takes twice as long to finish than almost any other character I have. Except maybe Inkbrand, because of his tattoos. And, maybe Arc, because of his tattoos. ... -designs more OCs with tattoos, everywhere- Limi (c) Bellosh
  6. Heya, know you're busy with lots of threads and stuff going on. Just wanna let you know you're up in Equestrian Skies and Endings, Old and New, in case you missed 'em!

    Drift

    From the album: MLP Characters

Another one of those "I want to draw but I don't know what so I'll just doodle around and see what happens" type of drawings. She's suppose to be walking through a pool of water with the moon's reflection over her, but I discovered something kind of interesting about myself when I was trying to paint this. I don't know anything about drawing water. Except for specific circumstances, positions, etc. A view from the top looking straight down, however? I was lost. Still, for a quick doodle that turned into a speed paint, I think it turned out all right. I definitely need to look up some water tutorials, though. Princess Luna (c) Hasbro
  8. Guh-huh-huh-huh. That sky is beautiful, I can't stop staring at the shine in the lower right corner. Really gives off a great vibe of a setting sun (maybe rising, but it looks like it's setting to me~) And for a first time with CG armor, I think it turned out really nicely. They're difficult to see in the default view, but full view really shows off all the details of the whorl and swirl designs on the armor. (Also really like that symbol he has draped over his back. Is that a stylized yin and yang symbol?)

    Good Dog!

From the album: Requests, Gifts, Commissions

For one of the most formidable characters I've yet to see on the forums, Dog is surprisingly adorable. Sadly, I'm pretty terrible at anything anthro-related, so this rough sketch was the most I could do for said adorable puppy. I can't wait to see more doggy Dog antics in the future~ Dog (c) Imagination

Full view is best view!...sort of. More sketchy sketchy sketch sketches to practice drawing humans, this time using Revenant as a model. I've been wanting to draw a human!Revenant for a while now, actually - tried it before and it didn't work, and then randomly decided to try again today. About two hours of work. He actually came out looking younger than I would have liked...I think I didn't draw the musculature too well, so he looks leaner than he should be - and I also drew him at a strange sort of angle, with his body pretty much drawn from the side but his face turned to give a 3/4s shot. Still! Not too bad~ Inkbrand, Nocturne, Mei, and now Revenant...who knows. Maybe I'll be able to draw all of my OCs as humans at some point, or other OCs as well. Always good to keep my human drawing skills on point!
  11. Ooh, I love the purple and blue hues on the larger dragon, they meld together so beautifully! And as always, shiny~
  12. From the album: OC Art

Got inspired to try and draw some sort of formal wear for Mei. She comes from an old and traditional town, so I'd image their formal wear is equally old and traditional rather than something more modern - hence, Mei dressing up in a Hanfu, and taking an inordinate amount of time to admire herself in the reflection of a pond. It's an old Chinese type of dress similar to the Japanese kimono and Korean hanbok. There should, probably, be all sorts of elegant patterns over the hanfu, but I had enough trouble just trying to design the thing on a pony body, lulz. Any sort of outfit that has a high-waisted style is kind of moot on a pony, seeing as their "waist" is underbelly. Still, it was a fun design, and one that'll probably serve as Mei's formal wear should the need arise.

Thanks to a little suggestion from PrinceBlueblood (the RPer, not the pony), I found another scene to doodle from the Animal Team in the Winter Wrap-Up event thread, featuring Prince Blueblood (the pony, not the RPer) and Rarity being pelted with stray bits of snow and nesting material as Snapshot crashes into the table. Blueblood at least seems to be handling himself with grace...or at least resignation. Blueblood and Rarity (c) Hasbro Snapshot (c) Ciraxis

    Riff Raff

*deep inhale* How do you make your stuff so shiny, it's ridiculous. Like, if Raff's eyes were any brighter and cuter, he'd probably sear a hole straight through my screen. And, I would be a-okay with that. aklsdhbflsdf thanks so much for the gift art, McDerp! Your technique has gotten so good it's ridiculous, especially when I look back on your older pictures to see the progress from just a year ago. I still remember that Inkbrand drawing you did for me when you were first starting to experiment with soft shading, and now look at this. His snout, his paws, the fluff on his tail - it's all perfect. I wish I could write down all my thoughts in a coherent manner, but honestly, my brain is kind of a puddle of goo at the moment, so I'm slowly lozing teh abilie to th1nzk fleekjfs en.

All the Teams! ...Actually, that is all the teams, since I don't have a character working with animals. But maybe I'll just draw another team, because seriously, these events are fun. Star Crusader (c) moonshineTheleocat Skyhaven (c) RainbowPony

    Team Row 4

    From the album: OC Art

Hmm...the "Team" thing doesn't really work with Rows, but oh well. Quick little doodle of Winter Wrap-Up via Row 4 on the Plant Team. I really like events like these - hope we get to see more holiday-themed ones in the future! Red Cedar (c) RedCedar Naj (c) DerpRavener
  17. From the album: OC Art

This little doodle stems from a pony art spree I went on a little while ago, trying to get some ideas for pony clothing. Unfortunately, I didn't get much inspiration, because the vast majority of pictures I found featured only one article of clothing. There were socks, everywhere. I honestly don't understand the fascination with ponies wearing stocks or stockings (I'm not nocking it, just don't understand it), which is what prompted this picture. It also gave me a chance to redo Fem!Inkbrand again, since the first rendition was...okay, but the actual execution of that drawing was just terrible. *burns old picture* On an unrelated note, I feel like I'm starting to draw female ponies better. At least making their faces look more feminine than the way I draw stallions. Progress!

    The Last Unicorn

Any love of ponies I have, and horses in general, can be traced straight back to this movie... I have to say, the shading really brings an extra edge into this artwork Lux. The shadows are much darker and more defined than in other pictures, and they really add another dimension to it. Awesome work!

    Garden Gait

    From the album: OC Art

So someone told me today that they couldn't find this picture in my gallery, leading me to realize that I failed to reupload it after the server reset. Hnnnrgh. In any case, here's a speed paint of Garden Gait's iconic flower meadow along the East Road, or at least my attempt at it. And also featuring Mei sitting upon a boulder, because. Please re-Like if you Like!
  20. From the album: OC Art

Lol, that thumbnail tho. Wish there was a way to crop the thumbnail picture to not be dead center. Full view is best view! In any case though, here's a second take on a humanized Mei, because I felt like drawing something perky and curvy and decided to just use Mei as a model again. I've always had trouble drawing humans, particularly because of anatomy (I have a tendency to make everything rather buff), so this time, I just grit my teeth and tried to exaggerated female anatomy, with tiny waists and emphasized hips. To my immense surprise, it came out pretty good! (although since she's wearing a high-rise outfit, it kinda loses the shape a little bit, but in return makes her legs look really long). Don't ask me about the pose. As I was sketching I think I was trying to do some sort of superhero thing, where the superhero is flying and twists around in midair so that her upper body's facing one way and her lower body's facing the other...but then it didn't quite work out, so it just kinda looks like Mei's falling over. Gracefully, though - falling gracefully like an empress~
  21. D'aaaaw, these human chibis are adorable. I love this simplistic vector style you've got. I'll definitely have to stalk any request thread you put up.

    Human!Luna

    From the album: MLP Characters

More practice with humans and shading, and failure...lots of failure. "When you try your best and you don't suceeeee-eeeeed...." That's when you curl up in a corner and rock yourself to sleep. Pretty disheartened about this one, to be honest. The lineart actually came out pretty nicely and I got really excited, but it all went to rubbish once the color came in. Still, better to push on through then to give up and just leave it at lineart like I was tempted to do. I also figured out that I really need to practice drawing different poses and angles. I always have an easier time drawing characters facing to the left of the frame rather than the right...think it's because I'm right-handed. Luna (c) Hasbro

Surprised no one has commented on these yet. You have a really nice eye for detail, and the shading on the armor and clothing looks really good. Awesome stuff!

    Human!Mei

    From the album: OC Art

I was in the mood to draw something but wasn't really sure what. Eventually settled on practicing humans again, this time with a humanized version of my Qilin character, Lián Mei. One of these days...one of these days, I will figure out how to shade hair. Until that day comes, though...sloppy and lazily multiple layering, lulz.
