I've been getting into the holiday spirit it seems (Christmas is my favorite time of the year!), which prompted me to draw two ponies sharing a scarf and standing in the falling snow. Xiphos and Meadowhawk aren't actually together anymore, but Xiphos doesn't let little details like that bother him. Meadowhawk © Dio- 6 comments

When designing OCs, I tend to have one idea or core concept that I want to turn into a pony. Inkbrand (the forum where he was first created) was designed to contrast the myriad sunshine and rainbow-y characters I was RPing with. Yuri was created with the idea of 'nice' not being equatable to 'right'. Fabled Archives was made around the idea of a pony's looks being entirely unfitting for their special talent. Lani was drawn up and apped because I wanted brighter and more vivid colors amongst my OCs. That's it. That's all. She's actually a redraw of the very first picture I uploaded in this gallery, of a random unicorn I drew to test out a color scheme that I ended up really liking. I did say I might app her eventually - which is what I did, though I reimagined her into a tropical island type pony. I'm honestly not sure if I'm actually going to RP her at all - I literally have no ideas about her at all - but her job was to add color to my OC roster, so...I feel accomplished anyways!- 5 comments

I was actually trying to make a simplistic picture for Lani's banner that will eventually go up in my character log, and it morphed into...this. Lani's ferociously enthusiastic fire dancing practice. For her banner, I'll probably end up taking out the fire and highlighting, and maybe change the expression to make it seem like Lani is just experience a pretty intense yawn and stretching session. Fire and ember brushes don't belong to me.- 6 comments

Bit of an explanation behind this one. This picture partly stems from an old RP where Inkbrand was chosen as an "Element of Harmony" sort of thing, with his element being Justice, and also partly from a conversation I had with someone about "Alicornification" - specifically, what aspect of our characters, if any, could they potentially become an Alicorn paragon of. From the very few examples in the show, ponies who are made into Alicorns (i.e. Twilight and Cadence) seem to exemplify intangible ideas, ideals, and traits, rather than tangible ones. My friend and I got to talking about what ideals our characters might exemplify to become Alicorns, which lead to this picture. Inkbrand is a very flawed character, but if there was any core value he might learn to be a paragon of, it'd probably be Justice. Inkbrand cares about what's fair and everypony being held to the same standards, but those feelings tend to be skewed by his own personal experiences instead of being unbiased. I didn't draw the emblem of Inkbrand's cutie mark on the throne. It was drawn by a talented artist from a different website, for the aforementioned RP.- 8 comments

Yes another new character. I think I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I'll have lots of OCs that get little to no use. Son of the highly decorated General Pummel (played by Bellosh), Dawnguard is out to follow his father's hoof steps in making Equestria a better place. Hopefully he'll be able to tone down the dramatics enough to actually get stuff done. "My spear hoof hungers for justice..."- 9 comments

Haven't done a speed paint in a long while, so I tried my hand at a ruins/jungle type thing, based on an upcoming RP. About an hour and a half of work. Buildings are definitely not my forte...even ruined ones. I have trouble visualizing all the different divots and dips and wedges, so they're difficult for me. Kinda like how the jungle came out though, even though I ended up darkening it too much and hiding the tree roots along the path. Dunder © Dunder- 5 comments

So this character might not actually become a character, but here's hoping he gets accepted. Daahir is an Abada, a dual-horned species that originates in Unyasi. His particular herd of Abada (consisting of his immediate family and one non-relative) practiced seclusion in the deep jungles of the Brakenweald, until Daahir met a Unicorn and decided he wanted to venture to Equestria in order to learn more about their strange magic. Credit goes to Dubstep for pitching the idea of Abada as a MLP species in the first place.- 13 comments

Last one last one, at least for a while. My love of cloved-hooved, tufted-tailed mythical equine species has been satiated with the Abada and the Qilin. Honestly when I started writing for this character, she came out disturbingly close to Yuri in terms of personality - excitable and easily impressed. I toned her down and sideways to make her more worldly and less excitable, but still boisterous and gregarious. Also gave her some major flaws, such as vanity and selfishness. Overall I like how she wrote out, considering that I sort of started with just the picture and later developed the character around it. I also can't take full credit for the color scheme on her. A friend of mine actually suggested it to me, after watching me try out and fail at about twenty other color schemes.- 8 comments

Maybe, roughly...two hours of work, for this one? Like many dragons, greed is one of Yuri's character flaws, though it's yet to really come into play in an RP. Still, I got inspired to draw an adult Yuri who was unable to fight a greed-induced growth spurt, resulting in her rational mind deconstructing down into an unthinking and avaricious beast. It'd be a pretty sad end for a character like Yuri - luckily, she's accumulated quite a few friends who could potentially snap her out of it. A rampaging Yuri might be fodder for a future RP. The face was heavily drawn from Miyazaki's work, because I could not figure out how the world to make a dragon snarl. Turns out it's all in the furrows of the snout/eye ridge and creases of the mouth.- 13 comments

After a quick draw of a pet red panda for someone's OC, I got to thinking about my own characters, and what sort of pets they might have. And when I say "think", I mean "brainstormed and chugged out thirteen different animals because the thought simply would not let me go." I don't think all my characters will automatically have these pets - some might suddenly poof into existence, some will probably be acquired through RP. But it was a fun little drawing session, one that inspired me to start a little thread about them. Take a look at it here! -

Obligatory V-Day picture for the only character of mine that's currently in a romantic relationship (sans Xiphos, 'cause his idea of a relationship is pretty messed up). I think Zelda and Inkbrand are the only Griffon/Pony couple that's even remotely active at the moment. Funnily enough, the thread where they hooked up had two other griffon/pony couples that were hitting it off, but I don't think they went anywhere after the thread ended. Happy Valentine's to everyone, whether or not you have a special someone in your life. If you don't, take this opportunity to hoard ALLTHECHOCOLATE. Zelda © Tacobob- 3 comments

Lol, that thumbnail tho. Wish there was a way to crop the thumbnail picture to not be dead center. Full view is best view! In any case though, here's a second take on a humanized Mei, because I felt like drawing something perky and curvy and decided to just use Mei as a model again. I've always had trouble drawing humans, particularly because of anatomy (I have a tendency to make everything rather buff), so this time, I just grit my teeth and tried to exaggerated female anatomy, with tiny waists and emphasized hips. To my immense surprise, it came out pretty good! (although since she's wearing a high-rise outfit, it kinda loses the shape a little bit, but in return makes her legs look really long). Don't ask me about the pose. As I was sketching I think I was trying to do some sort of superhero thing, where the superhero is flying and twists around in midair so that her upper body's facing one way and her lower body's facing the other...but then it didn't quite work out, so it just kinda looks like Mei's falling over. Gracefully, though - falling gracefully like an empress~- 5 comments

This little doodle stems from a pony art spree I went on a little while ago, trying to get some ideas for pony clothing. Unfortunately, I didn't get much inspiration, because the vast majority of pictures I found featured only one article of clothing. There were socks, everywhere. I honestly don't understand the fascination with ponies wearing stocks or stockings (I'm not nocking it, just don't understand it), which is what prompted this picture. It also gave me a chance to redo Fem!Inkbrand again, since the first rendition was...okay, but the actual execution of that drawing was just terrible. *burns old picture* On an unrelated note, I feel like I'm starting to draw female ponies better. At least making their faces look more feminine than the way I draw stallions. Progress!- 9 comments

Hmm...the "Team" thing doesn't really work with Rows, but oh well. Quick little doodle of Winter Wrap-Up via Row 4 on the Plant Team. I really like events like these - hope we get to see more holiday-themed ones in the future! Red Cedar (c) RedCedar Naj (c) DerpRavener- 5 comments

Got inspired to try and draw some sort of formal wear for Mei. She comes from an old and traditional town, so I'd image their formal wear is equally old and traditional rather than something more modern - hence, Mei dressing up in a Hanfu, and taking an inordinate amount of time to admire herself in the reflection of a pond. It's an old Chinese type of dress similar to the Japanese kimono and Korean hanbok. There should, probably, be all sorts of elegant patterns over the hanfu, but I had enough trouble just trying to design the thing on a pony body, lulz. Any sort of outfit that has a high-waisted style is kind of moot on a pony, seeing as their "waist" is underbelly. Still, it was a fun design, and one that'll probably serve as Mei's formal wear should the need arise.- 7 comments

Full view is best view!...sort of. More sketchy sketchy sketch sketches to practice drawing humans, this time using Revenant as a model. I've been wanting to draw a human!Revenant for a while now, actually - tried it before and it didn't work, and then randomly decided to try again today. About two hours of work. He actually came out looking younger than I would have liked...I think I didn't draw the musculature too well, so he looks leaner than he should be - and I also drew him at a strange sort of angle, with his body pretty much drawn from the side but his face turned to give a 3/4s shot. Still! Not too bad~ Inkbrand, Nocturne, Mei, and now Revenant...who knows. Maybe I'll be able to draw all of my OCs as humans at some point, or other OCs as well. Always good to keep my human drawing skills on point!- 2 comments

They've only been in one thread together, but Mei and Limi have gotten along pretty nicely. Maybe a little, too nicely... This took a lot longer to finish than I had originally planned, especially since that original plan had been to quickly doodle something out of an RP. Half because I forced myself to try different poses that I normally wouldn't try, and half because of Mei. Her design means she takes twice as long to finish than almost any other character I have. Except maybe Inkbrand, because of his tattoos. And, maybe Arc, because of his tattoos. ... -designs more OCs with tattoos, everywhere- Limi (c) Bellosh- 13 comments

These OC ideas won't leave me aloooooone, how am I suppose to focus on other things, like eating? Or sleeping?! Katsuo here is a Longma, though he and the community he grew up in used the native term Ryuma. Either or, they are basically the Pegasus equivalent in the far east, sharing similar traits with their Qilin/Kirin cousins. He's got the soul of a wandering samurai - or at least, what a samurai might be if a small child picked up a book and read about them. At the start of RP he's going to be wandering, searching for some purpose in his life...because I surely don't know what that purpose is suppose to be hnnnnrgh. Unlike most of my characters, this guy was apped sort of get his character idea out of my head, not because I have a really huge urge to RP him. Who knows though, I really like how his design and character came out - maybe he'll wander his way into a few open threads.- 8 comments

Really lazy coloring and shading on this one, but that's okay, because this was just a random idea that popped into my head, hard enough for me to want to chug it out in one go. After I posted a picture of Dubstep's character Yu Xin, a couple people immediately contemplated one of their characters becoming interested in her. Cue this idea of a bunch of guys vying for her attention in a classic "one girl surrounded by romantically inclined guys" anime pose. Thought whether one, or any, of these guys are actually sincere in their attempts is a mystery. And of course, Yu Xin enjoying all the attention she's getting, lulz. Another "I felt like drawing but didn't know what to draw" evening, so I decided to try practicing humans again by sketching a MLP character of mine I've yet to "human-fy". I like how she came out, though her expression looks a little bland. Though I'm not good at conveying expressions with this semi-realistic style, it's just something I need to further practice with. But otherwise, yeah, not too shabby. Her hair was especially fun to draw, trying to translate that waving, hair spine onto a person. I think it'd be neat if I was able to eventually conceptualize all my OCs as humans at some point. At this point, Yuri makes...five? ...So that's like, ten more human drawings to go, lulz.- 10 comments

Been a long while since I changed my avatar, so I decided to sketch another human!Inkbrand picture for it. I think this is actually my favorite rendition of a human Inkbrand of all my attempts - he looks like a young adult, not too young and not too old, with good musculature without being incredibly beefy. Might go back and add some basic shading to this, but for now it was just an hour or so sketch 'n color. Sketching the face seemed to take forever though, definitely a weakness of mine. Think I'm going to try practicing more humans in the future, though which character should I practice on?... -steeples fingers together and leans backwards in chair-- 6 comments

No idea how voluminous and fluffy hair is suppose to work with those holes...but they do. Don't question it, just enjoy! Just a quick draw and color of a Changeling Foal...or whatever young Changelings are called, playing around with some color schemes. She turned out pretty cute - might app her in the future, might just put her up for adoption, but for now, I just wanted to play around with a large, fluffy hairstyle and some pretty colors.- 9 comments

I started drawing in the hopes of turning out a picture to use on my profile, and got really carried away with it. As one does. A brief glimpse into a section of Inkbrand's Tattoo Parlor, with Inkbrand kicking back and looking bored while he waits for some customers. I sped through the sample tattoos hanging on the walls because I really was just out to practice drawing Inkbrand and some posing, but they are part of his shop and I couldn't just leave them out. As an aside, Inkbrand's probably going to be renaming his parlor into something more thematic than just, "Tattoo Parlor", soon. Have a few ideas in mind, but I'm still mostly brainstorming...if anyone has any good ideas, let me know!- 9 comments

I realized the other day that I had no female characters who were competent fighters. All of the girls I have fulfilled niches that had no physical conflict involved in them whatsoever. So I decided to make a ninja character, to compliment my samurai. Tsuki is generally an agreeable sort of Ryuma, but she's got some grand ideals about getting vengeance against the Imperial Dynasty for 'destroying' her family's way of life, way back when her ancestors migrated from Long Guo after its unification. She'll be using her ninja training to try and subtly sabotage any Long Guo workings she can. ...We'll see how that goes for her.- 8 comments
