  1. From the album: Mal's art!

Art I did of Daybreaker/Solar Flare. I don't like her armor much in the show, but eh! Please don't use this or post it anywhere else.
  2. From the album: Mal's art!

Celestia~ Please don't use this art or post it anywhere else without my permission.
  3. From the album: Mal's art!

An older art I previously fixed up to make a few bits that used to bother me better. There's a shaded version to but I can't be bothered to give it the same treatment. Yet.
  4. From the album: Mal's art!

This is a much older art, from a time when I made a wasteland AU with a friend. We didn't/still don't like FoE much and we wanted a better alternative.
  5. Celestia rose from her bed, and went to her balcony. The moon was already sinking down, so Luna was ahead of her today. Celestia smiled softly, and her horn lit up in that glittering golden magic color. The sun slowly began to rise over the horizon, bringing light to the world and awakening it from the peaceful slumber of the gentle night. She loved the sweet night time her sister made.Tia slowly finished raising the sun into place and moved to the desk in her room. As she sat to look at the calendar, something came to her. It was her birthday. While most of her subjects had long forgotten it, many ponies near her still remembered. It was always a fun day, and she enjoyed the often festive like celebrations they held in the gardens for her. She let them do as they pleased, it was more fun that way. As she began putting on her finery, she paused to look in the mirror. Setting the gold trappings aside, she stood in front of her mirror and looked at herself. No. Today she was going without them. Her subjects knew her well enough to know it was her. She didn't need all the finery of a princess to be a happy pony. Taking one last look at herself, she nodded and moved to her door. Today was a day to be happy and she strolled the halls slowly. She looked out the windows at the guards as they went about their daily tasks and patrols. She could see that there was already a banner announcing it was her birthday, and that court was canceled. Moving down the hall she went to the dining hall. The table was massive, made to accommodate over two dozen ponies at once. But on mornings like this, it was just her and her sister. Taking a seat at the end of the table, she leaned a hoof on the wood to wait. She was pondering what was for breakfast. Maybe Luna would make pancakes, or the chefs would make something sweet and fruity. While the first attempt of her sibling to cook was not that great, Luna had kept practicing, and she got really good at it. Celestia herself was no good in the kitchen, she knew that. The best she could do was make a salad, and even then it was bland. As she waited, she started to hum softly. Her eyes drifted over the room, lit only by the light from the windows. It was lavish, and set with all manner of finery. Celestia had come to just accept it, though secretly she wanted to get rid of it all. She had come to miss the simpler time when it was just she and her little sister, dining on a picnic blanket in a flower field and enjoying the simple foods nature provided them.
  6. I want to put together a Birthday thread for Celestia. Like she knows the day is coming and doesnt care anymore. At this point I would like to invite both cast and OCs. Especially players that have an interest in a long thread. I dont think a surprise party is in order, Im thinking more an an event where some pony expresses the need to celebrate it not as a holiday but just a day where Tia doesnt have to be a princess. She gets to take off the crown and just mingle with other ponies and enjoy sweets while laughing. Now the only place large enough to fit that many ponies would be Canterlot Palace Garden. So I want to hear what suggestions everyone has. Anyone interested in putting forward an idea?
  7. Celestia had sent the notifications out a week in advance to allow ample time for all parties to make arrangements to be free for that day. She notified the public that official court was cancelled for that day, as well as posted extra guards to allow for the princesses to be more able to concentrate on matters at hoof rather than ponies walking up to them with business that was not so pressing. It was not that Celestia did not love her ponies, in fact she adored each and every one of them. But there were times where she needed a day to settle more private matters with her fellow princesses. Matters of state, planning of events and specific meetings, gathering and analyzing information, assessing threats more deeply, the list went on. Celestia had the private study furnished for such gatherings. Today had a semi-full list of affairs, as each princess would bring a short list of their own. Celestia looked down her own list, bandit groups at the boarders, redecorating the palace, and the planning of the annual gala event. As she walked to the study, she had her head on these matters, but also tried to sort out how to broach them with her fellow princesses. Her sister was often more direct, and apt to have a simpler solution to matters. That was perfect in some situations, however others required a more finessed approach. Other still needed a more critical mind than either of them, of which Twilight possessed. Celestia was never not surprised by how detailed Twilight could get with the slightest thing. Though it often made her giggle when she saw her former pupil stressing over something that she thought was an important matter. For Celestia and Luna, these things had become trifles. Though their lengthy tenure of leadership had taught them many hard lessons on what was most important to a princess. Entering the study, Celestia sat herself at the table and waited for the others to arrive. Tea was already prepared and waiting, as was a small selection of fruits and sandwiches. Celestia preferred the simpler foods, as well as the sweet treats she allowed herself from time to time. And she hoped her selection of food was desirable for her friends. She knew some of what Luna liked, however Twilight had been away long enough that her tastes may have changed. As the solar princess set her papers down and began sorting out some parchment and ink, she paused and then sent a note to the kitchens to have extra treats prepared, just in case this ran longer than normal.
  8. Name: Princess Celestia Sex: Female Age: Unknown (over 1000 years) Species: Allicorn Eye colour: Purple Pink Coat: White Mane/Tail: Pastel Quad color - Blue, green, pink, violet Physique: Slender, sleek, lithe Residence: Canterlot Palace Occupation: Princess of Equestria, Princess of the Sun Cutie Mark: Large 8 armed sun. Celestia gained her cutie mark when she discovered her power to raise and lower the sun with extraordinary ease. where it once took the power of many unicorns, she could do it herself with little to no effort. Unique Traits: Former wielder of the elements of harmony, patient, wise, caring. Exceedingly Beautiful. History: Celestia first rose to power with her sister when asked by the first ponies of Equestria if they would be the rulers and represent all races in the land. While hesitant at first, she took to the role well enough after a time. She saw it as an opportunity to learn and grow with ponies, and to show them the power of uniting all the races of ponies, rather than being individual tribes. Being the older sister, she took on more of the responsibility and public figure. In her youthful arrogance, she loved the limelight. She loved being adored and even worshiped in some cases. Her ego eventually got the better of her, and she turned a blind eye to the suffering it caused other ponies, including her sister. The conflict that arose between Celestia and her sister ended when Celestia was forced to confront her sister and do battle with her, claiming victory at a high price. It crushed her inside, knowing the pain she caused others, and the damage to their home. Even in her victory, Celestia found no comfort in the praise of her citizens anymore. They loved and worshiped her as a savior, as she only saw herself as a betrayer of those that needed her most. After banishing her sister, Celestia ruled alone for over 1000 years as the only princess of Equestria. During this time, she established a military force and expanded Equestria's land coverage in all directions. Reaching shores and deserts alike, she sought to bring ponies together and unite the world in peace. She wanted to make every living being see that love and friendship were the answer rather than power and fame. In this, she realized that if her ponies depend on her so much that without her they are lost, Equestria will fall. To this effect, she has spent a good deal of time during the peace to make herself a distant part of their world, visible as a beacon on the hill, but not needed in their daily lives. However in times of Strife when threats arise, she will step forward to protect her kingdom. Unfortunately this has made many ponies in the past believe she is the sole protector of their kingdom. The princess choose this reason to form the REA. Having a military force that can protect them even in her absence would help the citizens understand that they can defend themselves just as well as if she were standing there with them. In more recent history, she has taken a step back. She gives other ponies a push in the right direction, helping them to become heroes of Equestria. This is to ensure that no matter what, Equestria will always have ponies to lead it to peace and safety. She also realize what while she is ageless, she can be defeated and killed by many other means. Multiple times, she has underestimated her opponent, being imprisoned by them. This has taught her that she is not invulnerable. As impressive as her magic is, and as deep as her power runs she knows that there is always the chance her opponent might be more powerful or more crafty than she is. Like any modern ruler, she is a civil servant. In the past she was lavished with love and could freely ask whatever she wanted. Her power to control the sun made many see her as a god. She cared nothing for this, but allowed it to pass as her longevity and great magical power caused many to revere her presence. Celestia helped guide public opinion over the years, turning her position of absolute ruler into that of a civic servant. She served the ponies of the country, as they served the kingdom. She established it this way to form a series of checks and balances to help keep the palace from gaining too much influence again. She cared nothing for the power, but knew that without a ruler the country would be lost. Character Personality: Celestia is a smart mare, with a skill for handling unexpected situations with calm and poise. However she has lost connection to her ponies and sometimes forgets that when interacting with them, they can not just understand what she wants or needs. Years of being the only princess have set her in the habit of believing she is the only one to be able to handle a situation until it gets beyond her abilities or knowledge. Her rule was dotted with a few instances of serious danger, between long stretches of peace and prosperity. Celestia has a fondness for sweets and music. She enjoys her sugary foods a bit too much, overindulging when she thinks no one is looking. While she maintains a slim figure, she can easily pack away an entire cake by herself. Her love of music extends to many forms, from the old classical pieces to the more modern club music produced by many modern ponies. Her favorite way to enjoy music is from the musician themselves, no matter their instrument choice. Be it electronic keyboard powered by magic or an old family violin that sang out notes coaxed from its strings by a an old professional, Celestia loves music. Even the out of tune notes played by a foal their first time they try to play, she enjoys it because it represents joy and peace to her. Her hidden personality is that of a timid mare, scared of her own power. Not her magical prowess, but as a ruler. Celestia is aware that she sometimes forgets she is a princess, and when she speaks or acts out of character it causes confusion and concern for other ponies. Her other self is locked deep away, hidden from the common pony and shown only around dear friends and family. She is scared, knowing that one day she might slip up and hurt another pony so deeply as she did her sister. Over the ages, she has made friends with many other rulers or other countries, including: the Hippogriffs, Saddle Arabia, Maretonia, and many others. Her efforts are to ensure that Equestira always has allies. Her reasoning is that in the event of great danger, these countries can band together and protect themselves from the threat to secure peace for their various peoples again. Character Summary: Celestia is skilled in combat, from engagements in the crystal empire, against various foes of Equestria such as chaotic spirits and evil invaders, to common challenges to her throne by powerful and skilled warriors. As she grew older, in the peace that was secured for Equestria she lost some of her combat edge, and relied more on help from other ponies to keep the world safe. She is also a loving mare, with more heart than most and a deep desire to share that love with every pony. She wants to be friends with all her ponies, and show them she is not some monarch on a pedestal but a friend they can turn to in their time of need. Knowing her position, Celestia tries her best to promote ponies to realize they are just as important as she is. She can not be a princess without them, and so tries to show them that they have so much more power than she does. However she feels restricted because she is duty bound to Equestria to provide it a service like any other civil servant. She must raise and lower the sun, as well as handle matters of importance like daily court or missives from other leaders.

  13. A little one-shot that I came up with. Nothing too spectacular happens here, mainly just some attempts at character development. Hopefully all this is worth the read! Don't be afraid to leave some feedback if you have any comments or criticisms! --------------------------------------------- The ceaseless ticking of a clock and the steady breathing of two people are all that break the major silence of Canterlot High's nurse's office. One of the two being the ailed Sunset Shimmer as she's spread on her back on a decently comfortable, bed-like resting area of the office. Her boots stripped from her as they stand beneath the foot of the bed, while on her right side is the majorly dark figure of the male whom had brought her in. He carries on in silence while tending to her most recent injury: a twisted ankle, in which he received a pack of ice from the nurse to then apply for Sunset. Throughout the moment, she couldn't help but constantly observe the young man with pity for both him and herself. His determined blue gaze and nearly pale skin suit him perfectly, yet he hides it beneath the shroud of black that is his long coat. This boy, who works tirelessly to treat her injury when she is clearly undeserving of such kindness, even at the risk of ditching class and getting into major trouble. She's tried to convince him to leave her in the office, but there was no deterring him in that moment. Thus causing the air of silence that lingers between them now. That is, until she finally speaks up minutes later. "You know, I.. I don't remember getting your name," she says. Such easily catching the male's attention as he looks over at her. "It's Thoren," he says in a somewhat low but youthful voice. "Thoren.. what?" Sunset raises an eyebrow. "It's just Thoren." "Oh... I see. Well, I'm Sunset Shimmer." Thoren pauses to process the name, and soon nods. "Sunset.. I like that. But you seem bothered by something." "No, not really," Sunset sighs, "It's just.. I wanted to properly thank you. This was really nice of you, and I really mean that, so... Thank you, Thoren." He returns her gaze in acknowledgment, then resumes his focus on the task at hand. After a long pause, he finally responds, "...I know what it's like to have to suffer alone, with not a single person to come to you when you're most in need. I've learned to carry on without someone's help, but I never liked it... I don't want that for you. No one should have to suffer that way." Thoren sighs as well, "I guess what I mean is.. you're welcome, Sunset. I couldn't just leave you to limp your way here." In that moment, Sunset seems at a loss for words... and only further convinced that the whole major black getup doesn't suit him at all. Not to mention she feels quite foolish in ever being frightened of the young man in the first place. Though her train of thought is cut off by the sudden knocking on the door-frame at the office's exit. The cause of the knocking is none other than the Principal herself. One whom Thoren instantly recognizes as he turns to face the source of the sound. He easily recognizes the natural flow of the many colors in her long hair, but it is Sunset that speaks first. "Principal Celestia.." "Is there a problem?" Thoren follows up. His blue eyes regard the woman expectantly. "Oh, not at all," Celestia waves it off, "Though, I do want to see Thoren in my office. Don't worry, he's not in trouble. I just need to speak with him." "But.." Thoren does a slow double-take of Sunset Shimmer and the Principal. The former sighing in relief that there's supposedly no trouble, while the latter smiles and gently chuckles in response to his internal struggle. "You know that we have a school nurse for a reason, right?" Celestia reminds him. "I don't choose my staff for nothing. While I do commend your loyalty, I have full confidence that the nurse can take it from here." Thoren takes one last look at Sunset, and lets out a breath; but then Sunset herself sits up to place a hand on his arm. She chimes in with a smile, "Don't worry, Thoren. She's right. I'll be fine. Besides, I'm not even in much pain anymore because of your help. The nurse probably doesn't need to do all that much now. So you don't need to worry so much. Still, again, thanks," she pats Thoren's shoulder. "I'll see you around, okay?" Her short speech would gradually lift Thoren free of his conflict, but his sense of compassion remains in his expression. "Alright. Take care, Sunset." "You too." Principal Celestia only smiles warmly as the moment progresses, and perfectly reads the atmosphere to where all she needed was to simply begin exiting the room. Exactly as she'd expected, without even needing to call for him, Thoren follows accordingly while waving to his new friend on the way out. ... "Come, have a seat. I'll be with you shortly," the Principal beckons Thoren through the door to her office, and gestures to a single arm-less chair in front of her desk. Without question, he complies. After doing so, he would take the single moment of silence to give every facet of the room a first glance: from the two bookcases, to the calendar on the back wall, to the wooden desk that bears a depiction of the sun and moon. Even the dark red carpet beneath him gets a small glance; until finally, he would look behind him to witness Celestia pulling down the blind in front of the glass window on the door. Such begging the question of exactly what it is that she needs to discuss, and why it must be so private. Fortunately, it seems that his questions would be answered in due time as she seats herself with her elbows on her desk, and her fingers gently locked together as she finds her words. "Now... as you might be aware," Celestia begins, "Every beginning of a class period begins with the taking of attendance. The roster is then able to be viewed and verified by the office staff and myself. The reason I'm telling you this is quite simple: you have been marked absent, when we both know you shouldn't have been. Why, I saw you earlier this morning on campus, so I know that to be impossible. And so, I set out to find you... and of all places, I find you in the nurse's office, tending to a fellow student's injury." She sighs. "Thoren, I hope you realize how risky a move like that is. You could very easily have gotten into a lot of trouble." "And I would've accepted every ounce of it," Thoren crosses his arms as he regards the Principal. His tone holding firm. "Excuse me?" Celestia raises an eyebrow. "I would rather get in trouble for doing the right thing, than to be rewarded for doing the wrong thing. I was there in the very moment that Sunset Shimmer tripped up and twisted her ankle. There is absolutely no way that I would continue on and be known as the guy that let someone suffer just so he could get to class. You guys can do whatever you want to me. I will never stoop so low as to abandon my friends for any reason." Thoren's resolve resonates through every word of his monologue. His blue gaze unwavering as he regards the Principal. "I will not be shamed for helping someone." A very long pause ensues as the Principal is left with an initial state of pure shock. Her eyes widen for the last portions of the young man's response; mostly because of how unexpectedly passionate and determined it is, and above all, honest. In no time at all, her look of shock is replaced with one of true understanding. It all starting with a smile. "No.." she shakes her head, "No, you will not be shamed for it. Especially not by me. It hasn't even been five minutes, and you've managed to impress me. I can already tell you'll get along just fine with the students of my school. In fact, you're well on your way with Sunset Shimmer." "Er.." Thoren stutters at first; he seeming to be completely caught off-guard at first, as if he were expecting a completely different outcome, if not the polar opposite. "...You think so?" "I know so," Celestia says matter-of-factly, "In fact..." she pauses, and during such a pause, she begins to look him over. She examines every facet of him, from his hair and cross-bangs, to his skin and black coat that covers most of his white shirt, save for its middle section; and of course, she'd finally settle on his eyes, but hardly with just a mere glance. Then, in an instant, Thoren realizes exactly what she's looking for. He knows that look from anywhere... she literally is seeing into his soul. He can feel it beyond any doubt. Though he's surprised with the sudden circumstance, he holds his ground and allows the Principal to observe as she sees fit. Ironically enough, it is as soon as he makes this realization and feels the essence of Celestia's surprisingly powerful soul, that she finally breaks the silence. "Yes... There really is no doubt, now. You really are the one.." "Huh?" Thoren squints some. Then breaks eye-contact as he's thrown into brief confusion. "What do you mean?" "I'll show you.." she takes a breath, as if she were preparing for something. Then she reaches beneath her desk and, for a moment, stoops beneath it. He could only imagine that she's reaching for something on the floor, and it turns out to be the correct guess. But what he would see her extract from beneath her is beyond anything he would've expected to find in the Principal's office, or anywhere on school grounds for that matter. More so, it causes a sharp gasp to emit from him along with his widening eyes. From beneath her desk, Celestia reveals to him a black sheath that houses the blade of a full-length katana. Its hilt extending from the mouth of the sheath, with the common pattern of lined-up, thin white diamond shapes along the broad sides of the hilt. Of course, this is not just any regular sword you could find on the market: it is his sword. Further proving that it is his sword is what he witnesses while Celestia works up the nerve to hold it in her hands. Her disposition almost completely changing from her calm, gentle, and understanding nature. Her eyes do not meet his, but he can see the sudden determination that fills her eyes: the strength, the willpower, the resolve, and above all, the obligation to defend herself and those around her 'til her last breath. It's like she's become a completely different woman in an instant. Often times it is a frightening thing to witness, and Celestia is no exception. Still, despite her change in mood, she places the sword on her desk with relative ease. As soon as the weapon is free of her hands, she takes a deep breath while she allows its essence to bleed out of her; albeit she speeds up the process with a sort of 'shove' from her own soul. Another moment of silence ensues, but it lasts considerably shorter than last time. An instant later, and her smile returns. "It's yours, isn't it? I can tell." "It is," Thoren lets out a breath as he does his best to keep it together. "Principal Celestia... Where did you get this? More importantly, how did you get this?" "It was a surprisingly simple matter. One that I actually had nothing to do with until now... You see, a certain young lady approached me soon after we met to arrange your enrollment here. I actually think you'll understand when I say that there was something... otherworldly about her. She appeared human, yes; but she dressed in such odd clothing for the time and place--oh what was it... Long, blonde hair in a white bonnet, white dress with purple down the middle, brownish golden eyes... Beautiful girl, though." The surprise remains in Thoren's face as he guesses another detail. "...Pink parasol?" "Yes!" a wave of excitement washes about her. "So you do know her!" "I do... to a degree. I know I shouldn't be too surprised because it's... well... her." "I see... anyway," Celestia continues, "The young lady approached and handed me this blade. She even suggested that I bring it to my office on the first day of the new school year, which happens to be today. She claimed that I would know who it truly belongs to once I've met them. Of course, I definitely believe that now, after seeing you. But admittedly, I was fairly skeptical of the girl, until she convinced me to hold it in my hands... That's when my doubts started to fade away. "I don't know what was done to this sword, but every time I hold it, I feel like a completely different person: like I could take on anything and everything that opposed me, even if it cost me my life... But I know that it won't affect you, Thoren." "Oh?" he raises an eyebrow. Though it is unnecessary for him to question her, he really wonders how much she truly understands. "...How do you figure?" She returns with a knowing smile. "...Because this sword is not only yours. It is you, Thoren. I'm not sure how you did it, but you have managed to forge the true extension of yourself through this weapon. No one else but you can properly wield it. I know this, because the essence of this weapon matches perfectly to that of your soul. That's why you're the one who is being shown this... If I didn't know any better, I'd say that this was a considerably elaborate scheme to make sure you got your sword back. That young lady knows that I have a connection to you, and I'm honored that she chose me to be the one who returns your sword to you. I'm sure you've been missing it for quite a while." This time it is Thoren who's impressed. "Remind me to never underestimate you again... Yes, that is my katana. I knew especially from the second you held it in your hands. And yes, I have been waiting for it. If anything, I was just wondering how exactly it would reach me this time. Though, if you don't mind, I'd like to ask that you hold onto it for just a little bit longer. At least until the end of the school day." "I understand," Celestia nods, "I'll have you pick it up as soon as you leave your last class. I'll wait for you on the school's roof." "I'll be there. Promise." "I know you will... I'll see you then. In the meantime, be sure to head back to class this time--if you can, that is," she gives a small wink. Seemingly out of the blue, Thoren gives a humble bow towards her, much like how a Japanese person would do so out of respect, or in this case, gratitude. "Thank you, Principal Celestia. I'll see you soon." ... "Oh, and Thoren," she suddenly calls out to him just as he's about to open the door. "Hm?" he looks back at her. "Just a little word of advice... You'll know it when you've found your true and forever friends. In fact, I know that you'll meet them in this very school... "And when you do... I urge you, Thoren.. take off your coat every once in a while. Defend yourself and others as needed, but don't forget to let your true friends see you--the real you. Can you do that for me?" Thoren stops dead in his tracks, then in processing her advice, he looks at his own coat... then thinks of Sunset Shimmer, as she may be one of the friends that Celestia refers to. If Celestia is able to infer his coat's true purpose.. who knows how many other people could see it. At the same time, being able to shed this barrier in favor of being true to himself and his friends... the thought alone is enough to cause his first smile of the school year. "Yeah... I will," Thoren says at last, and with that, finally turns back towards the door to operate it... Only for him to miss the Principal mustering everything in her power to conceal her overwhelming happiness of finally getting the young man to smile for once. ... Thoren steps out of the Principal's office and turns to close the door, and just barely catches a glimpse of her celebrating in her chair. A chuckle emits from him, but at that very same moment, a low feminine giggle rings out from just behind him, followed by the passing shadow of a young woman beneath a parasol. The young man whips around to visually confirm her presence, only to find the area outside the office to be completely void of any person beyond himself. He gives a knowing look, then sighs while slipping his hands in his pockets, and carries on through the halls to his assigned classroom...

Been wanting to try my hand at an Okami-style drawing for a long time now, and finally got around to it. Of course I needed to draw a character with long, flowing hair so I could cover up a myriad of mistakes, and that decision turned into this. Not too bad for a first attempt I think, especially when trying to replicate a unique art style. Need to work on the body outlining, it's too thick and doesn't taper enough in areas. Still, I like it. Celestia © Hasbro

I have completely forgotten who I had this conversation with, but it basically started from discussion about a grass, then the image of a pony going to town on a patch of grass, then the inclusion of said pony being majestic and otherwise dramatic while chewing on grass like a cow. 18. Princess Celestia I have seen many things in these thousand years. I have seen birth and I have seen death. I have seen kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall. I have felt boundless joy and pitiless despair. I have seen many things, but in the end I know that my kingdom stands because of the love of its people for this land and for each other. This I vow to protect, to guide, and to prosper. Name: Celestia Sex: Female Age: Adult, though ageless. Species: Alicorn Coat Color: A pearly pink color, very nearly white (#FFF9FD) Mane/Tail Color & Style: Mane and tail of many colors kept aloft by her own innate magic. Streaks of aquamarine (#5CB5D5), jade (#58CEAC), sapphire (#92AEEF), spinel (#E0A7F8) Eye Color: Amethyst (#553B6B) Cutie Mark: Emblem of the Equestrian Sun Art by BlackGryph0n on DA. Fair use under Creative Commons. Physique: Towers above the general population of Great Equestria in stature. Leggy, fit, and dexterous. Carries herself with grace and presence. Residence: Currently residing in the seat of government in Canterlot. Occupation: Ruler of Equestria, shepherdess of the Sun and Moon Unique Traits Celestia is nigh immortal, her body ageless and her mind sharp despite the passage of years. Living for lifetimes longer than the average pony has given her a unique perspective on the nature of life, the world, and the whims of the aether. She understands that social structures and personal preferences cannot change instantaneously and that ponies often learn best by example. Wise and dutiful, the Sun Princess prefers subtle teaching methods, gently nudging events along rather than ruling by executive authority and arcane might. Still, when the wrath of the sun falls, it falls in full measure. Those who dare threaten Equestria know full well that as an ancient alicorn, Celestia wields truly terrifying and awesome power. Celestia has borne all of the Elements of Harmony in combination during the war against Nightmare Moon solo, a feat that has yet to be replicated since. She has banished a godlike entity from the Earth, imprisoning Nightmare in the Moon. Finally, she has personally fought wild beasts, bandits, and villains in the lawless time before the establishment of the Equestrian nation. Suffice to say that Celestia is not a combatant to be trifled with and very few are willing to challenge her full unbridled wrath. Character Summary Mentioning the city of Canterlot immediately evokes images of towering alabaster spires trimmed with gold and appointed with finery both arcane and mundane. Inevitably, any conversation about Canterlot turns to the monarch and chief occupant, Celestia, the Princess of Ponykind. Like the seat of her government, Celestia is shrouded in finery and steeped in arcane mysticism. The debate over the origin of the Celestial sisters is a perennial topic of Equestrian history conferences and a subject of intense study at Canterlot University’s History and Arcana departments. The only agreed-upon point of discussion is that the arrival of Celestia and Luna in Equestria substantially predates recorded history. Celestia herself has said little on the subject, preferring instead to focus on her current duties both as monarch and shepherdess of the sun and moon. What is known is that she was crowned the sole Princess of Ponykind shortly after using the Elements of Harmony to defeat Nightmare Moon and abruptly end the War of Night. In the years since the end of the War, Celestia has continued to shepherd the Equestrian sun and moon, maintaining balance both in nature and the aether. Under her guidance, Equestria has prospered, building great cities, taming the weather, and making the land bloom. Celestia has taken steps to build relations with neighboring Aquellia realms and to foster communication between all species. Recent days have seen their shares of ups and downs. Equestria is at peace with its neighbors, but trouble can come from within as well as from without. The return of Nightmare Moon was heralded in the books of prophecy for centuries; even Celestia knew that the spell of banishment would not be able to hold the entity forever. When the seal was broken, Nightmare Moon would return only with vengeance in mind. Celestia knew that she could not fight Nightmare Moon directly. Though she wielded enough arcane might to destroy the construct outright, the battle would likely destroy half of Equestria and in the end, her sister as well. Instead, the Sun Princess elected to be clever. Celestia allowed herself to be captured by Nightmare Moon and through subtle conversation, manipulated her into challenging Twilight and company with tests of their wits and their friendships rather than outright killing them. The rest, as they say, is history. Nightmare Moon was defeated, Equestria was restored to balance, and Luna was given a chance for redemption. Discord’s reign predates the War of Night by potentially centuries. Historical documents indicate that he was defeated by the combined effort of both Celestial sisters wielding the Elements of Harmony. As merciful as she was, Celestia did not outright destroy him, instead trapping his essence in a prison of stone. His most recent escape and the trials of Twilight Sparkle and company have reopened old wounds and serve as a reminder to Celestia that her decisions sometimes have unintended consequences. The Sun Princess knows that despite her powers, she is still far from perfect. Her age also gives her a firm sense of accountability and responsibility. As sorrowful as she was after defeating Nightmare Moon, Celestia knew that the consequences of Luna's actions justified her sentence. Perhaps in time, the ponies would learn to forgive Luna for her prior transgressions. In a thousand years, the hate and fear would have had time to fade, giving Luna the chance to start anew. Though she occasionally indulges those who ask her about her history and the years before the War of Night, she politely declines to go into great detail. Her memory of those events is perfect, but old wounds do not close easily and history is easily twisted by those who do not have the clarity of countless eons of existence. The Sun Princess firmly believes that her place is in the present and that her visions should be set upon the future, rather than reliving the sins of Equestria’s past. There are times when Celestia wishes she were merely a normal pony. In spite of the passage of time, the tumultuous events of the past thousand years still weigh heavily on her mind. Still, Celestia believes firmly in the strength of her people and knows that their connection with both the land and each other will allow them to persevere. As a result, Celestia demonstrates a very down-to-earth attitude in spite of her godlike powers and a warm and friendly demeanor in spite of her executive authority. Despite—or perhaps because of— the heavy responsibility of her occupation and the incredible power she wields, Celestia still finds time to have a little fun. Her playful candor manifests readily in less formal settings, such as when spending time with her sister Luna or her protégé, Twilight Sparkle, and at times when addressing members of the general public in a more intimate setting. She is known to play pranks on the palace staff from time to time, though they are always on the silly side rather than the malicious side. Portrait Art by Egophiliac on DA. 21. Many speculations had circulated the rumor mills of Canterlot on just what the blood relationship was between the Royal House of Blueblood, and the two sisters who comprised the Diarchy. In truth, the relationship was for the most part an honorary one, which was only sporadically acknowledged by the various heads of the aforementioned House down the centuries. The current scion called both of them Auntie. Granted, the familial title was adopted after the Prince had lost both his parents, and with them all his living relatives. The Princesses were the only ponies he felt close enough to to call family, though whether all of them reciprocated the feeling was another matter. Celestia did, at least, and Luna seemed willing to accept the idea of having a nephew. Cadence and Twilight Sparkle had shown rather less alacrity in calling him 'cousin' though. *Alright, yes, I've been something of a nuisance in the past, but... well, I'm pretty sure they do care for me, and in any case, they have a right to know.* The alabaster unicorn thought as the invitation envelopes were sealed and placed in the 'out' mailbox. It had been a while since he'd had an aunt to tea, and this was the first time both would be appearing at once; the differing diurnal rhythms of the Royal Sisters meant that only very special occasions would see them both awake and active at the same event. Such as, for example, Equestria getting a fifth Princess...

Present non-equine company also included, of course." The young unicorn aristocrat Wordworth Psmith beamed over the tea-table, laden with little cakes for his guests, while beside him a stocky Earth Pony refrained from rolling his eyes. He knew his friend's ways well enough; the unicorn always said 10 words when 3 would do, and took on a frivolous formality which just managed to be inappropriate for every occasion, whether solemn or flippant. Whether the other two present would understand this, though, Might Batsman hardly knew. After all, one was a disguised changeling they'd invited over in preparation for an audience before Princess Celestia herself, in order to discuss an alternative Equestrian policy towards their... somewhat insectoid neighbors. And then there was Red Cedar, called as a witness and support who barely knew either of the two young ponies. They'd arranged to meet in Psmith's house, which was in Canterlot; and spare beds had also been arranged for the guests, to save hotel expenditures, and the subsequent risks of exposure. Small talk (most of it by Psmith) had been the rule of the hour until he'd deftly managed to secure the absence of his parents, and the presence of tea and snacks. And so it was that he called the meeting to order...

  25. I've often spoke out about who is the best princess (vs favorite princess). This isn't going to be about who is my favorite princess (but it isn't wholly unrelated), but rather whom I feel is the best overall princess and why. I'm going to take into account everything I've read and seen across all media for this. Starting from the bottom... Princess Luna, probably the most popular princess, is also, in all likelihood, the worst princess. To start with she is overly tied to emotions. While this makes for a very engaging character, it makes for a poor leader. It has caused her issues in the past and present. Her emotions are what lead her to be taken by the nightmare force, and try to kill her sister. Furthermore, she nearly cancelled a popular holiday merely because she disliked it. Yes, she helps individual ponies with nightmares, but that does not help the overall masses. She also lacks the experience her sister has (though that is mostly the fault of being banished which was her fault for letting her emotions get in the way of doing her duty for the ponies she guards) Cadence would probably be next, but it is rather close with Twilight, but that is mainly due to lack of information, so a lot of this will be conjecture. Even in the book explaining her ascension to princesshood, we really don't have much to go on. That said, she has been shown to be at least a somewhat effective leader in the Crystal Empire, putting the well being of her subjects before her own. In fact she nearly passed out trying to protect them from Sombra. While she hasn't had much screen time it is clear she places great value on those around her and will do anything to help, whether it is individual or group. Twilight would be after... While her time as princess is short, we have seen her attributes countless times over the course of the series. From each of the main big bads from season openers and closers to times like the Winter Wrap Up. She has shown that not only can she lead but she's willing to when it is required of her. Naturally though she is reluctant, and we have yet to see where the "Princess of Friendship" path will go, and we likely won't until Season 5. But still, she has shown that she is a true leader and will put the well being of others before herself. The only reason she exceeds Cadence is due to the plethora of information as the lead character. And at the very top is Celestia. This isn't even really a contest. From the start she was exalted above all others as a great ruler, all the way back in the first episode. But let's forget hearsay and focus on what we actually know of her. First is that she thinks of everyone, even when it is painful to her. She continued the Summer Sun Celebration as if nothing was wrong despite it being greatly painful for her as it was a reminder that she had to banish her sister. It can be postulated that she had similar feelings about Nightmare Night. Though Nightmare Moon was just a character to many ponies from an old ponytale, to Celestia it was always her sister that went astray. She kept peace and prosperity, alone, for around 1000 years, and was in a position of power long before that in all likelihood. She is also the princess most likely to make decisions and stick by those decisions even among other princesses, even if that decision is tough or possibly controversial (eg Having Discord face off against Tirek, knowing full well that sending anyone else would have likely lead to disaster, despite it being a decision that did not sit well with the other princesses). She may not be seen doing much anymore in the way of actively protecting ponies, but it is clear that she acts as an ambassador personally to other lands, having gone to Saddle Arabia and likely heading the talks with Maredonia. In short Celestia is an actual leader. If something happens in Equestria she is the one everypony runs to, including Luna, Cadence and Twilight. She has the experience, poise, and most importantly she has all the qualities of a great leader, including ability to inspire, confidence, commitment and a positive attitude (not to mention that she has a sense of humor). While it is easy to see why others prefer one princess over another as a favorite being characters, however the question of best princess is a simple answer. Celestia is clearly the leader of Equestria, other princesses defer to her, her subjects are most likely to come to her for issues concerning Equestria. While it can be argued that the other princesses may be better characters, or at the very least better developed (most of Celestia's characterization is from hearsay rather than from what we actually have seen), it cannot be argued that she is not the true ruler of Equestria, and therefore the best princess.
