Disclaimer: I am in no way a profession artist nor have I been drawing ever since I was born. I'm merely a student and much of what I'll be saying is me simply lending my own collective experience from school, books and from drawing. It's very possible that what I'm talking about could be wrong or lacking information so don't be afraid to point something out that doesn't seem to make sense or needs further information. No matter what is posted here or said, use your critical thinking skills and take what advice is useful to you. There's absolutely no wrong way to draw so experiment and find what speaks to you! This thread was inspired by Jenna who created a thread much like this on another forum whom disappeared after their laptop got fried. This thread is in dedication to her. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hello dear reader and welcome to the dedicated thread to learning how to draw ponies! Many times I've read comments and posts where individuals wished that they could learn how to draw, view artists as 'gods' or that drawing is impossible. This thread is here to change that. My goal, along with the help and input of fellow users, is that we all help one another learn how to draw our beloved pastel equines from FiM. How will we achieve this? It's quite simple, we'll sketch an image that will be posted on a weekly basis. From there we can give advice to one another via feedback, critique or just by making simple suggestions. As time goes on the images will become more and more complex and while the main focus will be on drawing Equines we will draw other denizens of Equestria. This is a place for all levels of skill to learn and practice from one another in a welcoming environment. You do not have to draw every image so don't be afraid to jump right in if you're a newcomer to this thread! Here's an example of what we'll be doing: Told you it'd be simple! If you really want to get the most out of this thread than I'd highly suggest experimenting with your drawings. Don't be afraid to try out new poses, mediums or exp ressions. A large part of learning how to draw is simply experimentation, try out whatever your heart desires! If you're having trouble learning how to approach your drawing you can check out EqD's Tutorial Codex as well as Reddit's MLP drawing School (Note: Contains NSFW content, tread lightly!) Don't be afraid to voice your questions, comments or suggestions, I'm more than willing to listen! Pick up those pencils, and lets get to learning! Whom We're Currently Drawing: The next image will be posted September 30th. Previous Images F.A.Q. Note: I'll update this as needed, promise! Update Log: (9/15/13) Added a new section - "I've got the basic materials but I don't know where to start!" including a video on "Visual Measuring."
/!\ Wall of text incoming, and there may be some mistakes. Sorry about them. ------------------------- Hi all. This morning, I was thinking about the Brony community and how we're seen by the Internet today. The first thing that came to my mind is the obvious fact that nowadays, there is a lot more people who 'know' us (I mean, know that this subculture exists) now than one year ago, and I can't convince myself that it is a 100% good thing. Of course, this is awesome to spread the friendship, love and tolerance all across the web, and this a very good point. The other important thing to notice is the fact that we don't have to explore the dark, lost, unknown places of the internet to find pony-related stuff anymore. That fact tends to drag to us people who are not as passionate as the bronies were at the very begining. This is not necessarily a bad thing, of course. I'm pretty sure that deviantArt, Youtube, and all other websites I can't think of wouldn't have so much awesome pony-related art and creations (even if R34 stuff is arguable, it's fine with me. It's still art, right?). On the other hoof, the 'disaventage' is that there are more and more people nowadays, calling themselves 'Bronies' just because they think it's cool, but who apparently doesn't understand what the show really means... I have tons of examples of 'Bronies' trolling (and being total jerks), or taunting other people on Youtube comments or forum boards, and each time I see something like this I wonder if our culture isn't victim of its success, of its 'fame'... I know that I'm a 'negative' kind of guy (You know, half-empty glass), and maybe I'm overreacting to this, but seeing a whole community I love being dragged down like this makes me very sad. I can't see any 'solution' to this problem, except keep being ourselves, and hope for the 'new' bronies out there to understand and enjoy the show for what it is, and not to use it as a 'shield' to keep trolling and making fun/insulting others. If I'm posting this, it's because I just wanted to share this thought with you. I may be wrong, I may be right, but that does not matter. What do you think about that? I mean, am I seeing or imagining things? Do you feel this way too? I don't really know that to think anymore.
I've noticed that a ton of meetups and conventions have popped up everywhere! I want to be able to go to one but there is only one meetup I know of in Oklahoma and its too far away for me. So I want to start a local meetup. There are definitely enough bronies around! The problem is, I don't really know the first thing about meetups. I've watched several videos but each meetup seems to vary. Are there essential things needed at a typical brony meetup? Where would we meet and how often? Please feel free to post any tips! Thanks for the advice!
I had this idea for a fanfic, though I'm pretty sure someone may have done a similar story already. Basically it involves all the crazy OC ponies (the recolors, neon, emo, etc) suddenly appear in Equestria and the Mane 6 have to find a way to send them back. One of the aspects of my story would involve a meeting with an emissary of basically the main contributors to the Brony community. My question is who would be the Mane 6 Bronies? I know I want Purple Tinker in there since she organized BroNYCon and is the biggest community organizer. I also wanted a fanfic author, an artist, someone in voice over, and whoever is best known. Thoughts? Ideas?
