1. Equestria's settled lands have for many generations been plundered and stripped bare of relics that in eons past were held in awe. Now, they are the stuff of myth and legend, considered by many to be simply fanciful tales. That doesn't stop some from taking these myths and using them as the fuel for something grand- adventure. Adventure is often a blanket term that hides a sea of motivations, and that strange motion often forces disparate parties to work together. The group of ponies that trafficked through the forest directly northwest of Hoofington were no different. Some were there for the greater good, still others for adventure, others knowledge, and some for fame. They made their way to an old and abandoned small castle that was rumored to be the resting spot of the Orb of Overwatch, and that was worth braving the hellacious winds that grounded the pegasi and forced the unicorns to keep their head down while the beating rain drowned out any conversdation. Determination was their ally as they made their way to it, however, and before long they found themselves in front of the castle. A giant clap of thunder and a streak of lightning certainly makes the ancient building seem sinister, but who knows if the Orb of Overwatch is even there? Well, that's a dumb question because in just a few moments, a few ponies will!
2. Piper the Dragon was spending a lazy day near the Barrelfloat River, just outside the city of Hoofington. She was a rather good swimmer, and the ocean offered a great opportunity to test how long she could hold her breath and how deep she could dive. As a young Dragon, she was about the size of the Princess Celestia, though having never met the monarch, she wouldn't be aware of that. Her sleek black body slid smoothly into the water, and she quickly disappeared under the waves before reappearing minutes later. If nopony had seen her go in, they would have no idea she was lurking under the water until her head broke the surface. The cool water was soothing to her scaly skin. It was nice to relax and practice her swimming skills. There was nothing really better for her to do, anyway. She had even begun to collect a pile of fish and set them on top of a large rock, to eat when she was finished exercising and had worked up an appetite. Though she wouldn't really call it exercise herself, seeing as it was pretty fun and she normally had plenty of energy to spare.
3. The purple mare was interested to find a possible friend in this stallion. He seemed fairly quiet by comparison to other ponies, though with her somewhat forced silence, Wrong Note wasn't exactly one to compare on terms of talking versus quiet. Regardless, he seemed less peturbed by her odd condition than any other pony she had met, perhaps due to some form of sympathy or understanding on his part. She had never been a master of reading the motives and emotions of other ponies, which was likely part of the problem that had led to her self-imposed exile to a more simple life. At any rate, her musings on the subject were only of secondary importance; he had offered his company in the future and the mare was not about to turn down his offer. Mentally noting the location he had given to Quillsilver, the mare trotted toward the table, bringing the bags of books she had purchased aong with her. Rather than answer with some likely horrendous lyrics, Wrong Note merely withdrew a small pouch that held the bits she had earned through her fishing-based business and gave a nod toward the shopkeeper. She was satisfied with her choices so far, guessing that she would certainly have enough books to keep her occupied for quite a while. Her first foray into the reading world was a fairly large one, but she spent very little on frivolities anyway, ensuring that she would have enough for a larger purchase of such items later. It seemed that now was that 'later', as she had selected quite a few books. She briefly wondered exactly how she would transport all these books back to her home, but settled on focusing her attention on Quillsilver and awaiting whatever price the unicorn would give her.
4. The grey stallion flipped through his notes, smiling back at his boss. "I'm glad you took me as an assistant for this project. There's so much I can learn from this." As they trotted to the entrance, he continued: "Let's see, the piping should have already arrived, and should have been stored on the other side of the building. I wasn't there when they arrived, but I'm sure..." He beamed, looking up from his book: "...maybe we should look that everything is in place before the workers arrive."
5. Sea Skies flew low over the beach, her hooves gently sweping through the soft sand. She smiled as she swurved lightly and hit the sea, flinching alittle at the cold water on her legs. She turned her head up towards the early morning sun and sighed happily. something good was in the air today she could feel it, she flew up higher to get a better look at the horizon, it was clear, not a cloud anywhere. A great day in Hoofington and a day of smooth sailing for anypony on the sea that day. A mild, wrm breeze picked up blowing the sweet smell of the ice cream shop over to her. 'never too early for a snack' she said to herself quietly as she let her wings take her over to the entarance of the ice cream shop.
6. Some ponies wouldn't consider it a long trip, but Rue had never been so far from home. As the sun breached the horizon over Hoofington, the landscape, shrouded in mystery moments before, illuminated. The pony, worn, but alert, continued her march along the road. In the city, sunrise way the day's quietest moment. Day ponies hadn't yet hit the streets that night ponies had made sure to abandon before light. Out here, however, nature celebrated. Long before Rue's eyes could detect any light, the sparrows and squirrels stirred. With no street lights beyond the city's boundary, there was little see or do out here in the dark. A night pony herself, Rue frowned. She was going to hate Hoofington. A seaside view offered little to somepony accustomed to Canterlot's heights. She had seen the sea before, just not from this close. And she'd heard about the close-mindedness of small-town ponies (whether Hoofington could be called small is, of course, a matter of debate, but it FELT small). Rue sighed dramatically and stopped at the first crossroad in the city. Who planned these streets, she thought, the layout seemed to have no rhyme or reason, like it just grew wherever ponies whims decided. She trotted over to a bench and set down her saddlebags. It was nice to have the weight off of her shoulders, even if it was for just a moment. After a moment of searching, she pulled out a wet, torn map and carefully laid it it down on the bench. That rainstorm last night had done its damage. The map was illegible. Getting here was easy enough -- all roads lead to Canterlot, so it was a straight shot. But from within the city, navigation wasn't so simple. Tired, Rue rested her head on the bench and sighed again.
7. Hoofington approached the beginning of another autumn day, but despite the brightening horizon the city remained dark. The streets were tunnels of thick fog, bounded by the dark shapes of the buildings on either side. Sparse light was provided by the street lamps and their misty halos, and by the more distant shine of the lighthouse, but no sign could be seen of the approaching sunrise. The air was chilly and damp, and the sounds made by those ponies who bothered to be out and about echoed weirdly in the dark. Condensation sparkled on every surface. A loaded wagon trundled east across one of the bridges over the river. The pony pulling it was wrapped up heavily against the chill, but this was evidently small comfort. His mouth, poking out from under the hood, moved in the manner of one muttering under his breath and fighting chattering teeth to do it. It was difficult to hear any of it, but a few words could be made out at distant intervals. "...cursed fog... too early for autumn... 'sta nebbia, oje..." The wagon turned off of the wide road leading from the bridge and onto a smaller street, lined with small but well-made buildings. After a number of blocks its driver paused in front of a small, two-story building, then took it around the back. ----- The inside of the building was nearly as dark, but much warmer. The first floor was mostly taken up by a kitchen; at some point in the very recent past a brick oven had been built on one side. The warmth and noise of a crackling fire emanated from it, but the light struggled to peek through the doorway, reflecting only faintly on the surfaces beyond. From a door on the opposite side of the room, there came the muffled sounds of objects being dragged and pushed, sorted and placed on shelves, and occasionally the thump of something being dropped, followed by brief cursing. After an hour or so of this, the door opened; a yellow pony with green eyes and unkempt red hair entered the kitchen, carrying a flat rectangular package in his mouth. He set it down on the counter that separated the kitchen from the small seating area, turned on the lights, and trotted across to the oven, peering inside. Nodding, he picked up the package again, went around the end of the counter, and exited the front door. The fog, though still dense, was thinning, as the light of day burned it away; the occasional breeze and sensation of movement above suggested that local pegasi were helping clear the air as well. The yellow pony grinned at the thought of a sunny day, and unwrapped the package, revealing a carefully carved and painted wooden sign, which said, in curly letters: Prancing Street Pizzeria & Bakery PIzza Peel stood up on his hind legs, and carefully hung the sign from a pair of hooks near the door. He stood back briefly to admire the look of it. "Ah, lovely." He hurried back indoors. There were a few hours yet before opening, but there was so much left to do: get the oven warmed up fully, set up the tables outside, bake some things for the breakfast crowd... assuming there would be a crowd. He'd informally opened up the place to the other shopkeepers on Prancing Street, and he'd put up flyers about the official opening, but he wasn't sure most Hoofingtonians even knew what a pizzeria was, or ever had pizza at all. He hadn't seen any, but then again he was still fairly new in the city. But if they were there at opening time, he'd show them. He would be ready.
8. Wrong Note trotted calmly through the familiar streets of her adopted town of Hoofington. The sun was just beginning to peak out from behind the crystal layer of water, casting it's glow over the streets. She loved early morning for both their beauty and their silent calm. Taking a few minutes to stand still on the docks, Wrong Note let the light ocean breeze toss her mane about. For several minutes, she merely stood, watching the sun rise. It was only when the port bell began to ring to announce the arrival of the morning shipments that Wrong Note continued on her way. The Hook, Line, and Sinker lay just around the corner. It was a small shop, just the right size to make it cozy but not claustrophobic. It was made of simple wood, with varnish to protect it from the frequent rain that occurred in the waterside town. Wrong Note smiled at the familiar shape. Everything she had come to recognize was a far cry from her old, glamourous life, but she felt just as much privilege for her lifestyle. The purple earth pony entered the shop slowly, a soft ding emanating from the bell near the door frame. Realizing that she was the first pony to arrive, Wrong Note quickly opened up the shop. Setting out the new items for sale and organizing the counter, the earth pony dashed around the store until she was certain that everything was in order. With a flick of the hoof, she changed the sign in the store window to display the word “OPEN” and quickly made her way behind the counter, awaiting her first customer of the day.
9. The proud cargo ship approached the harbor, its prow cutting through the water, a testament to pony ingenuity. They had conquered the earth, seas, skies, and the very patterns of nature. Sketch's feet stood firmly on the bow, looking off towards the city, the wind rippling more or less dramatically through his mane. A counterpoint to his fair seafaring capability, a couple of less fortunate ponies from his land swaggered about, looking extremely ill. The captain, a grizzled pony with a giant hat, called out. "All the landlubbers form a group on the port side!" Sketch trotted over, as the ponies looked about, confused. The captain exploded, his giant hat askew, yelling "For ponies sake, the left! The left side!" Sketch felt a small thrill at their imminent arrival as they pulled into the harbor, thoughts of all kinds of new and exciting things racing through his mind. The combined team of Pegasii and Earth ponies responsible for the docking raced around, completing their tasks with efficiency and precision, with Sketch looking on with an approving eye. Before long, the ponies were on land, a small harbor town, thriving with business and the local populace going about their daily work. The weather was overcast, just how he liked it. He felt no fear wandering during daylight hours in this weather. He trotted proudly down the wharf, stopping before he reached the intersection. While his small rucksack had some small personal items, he had failed to plan or even consider what he was to do once here. He felt a nagging irritation at being full of energy, yet having nothing to expend it upon. The waterfront was bustling this time of day, and Sketch decided to pass the time by wandering down the waterline, eyeballing the strange foreign architecture, which seemed to be more form then function. He was content until he began to feel a small pang of hunger in his belly... He sidles up to a nearby food stall surreptitiously, full of fruits and vegetables he can't begin to recognise. He stumbles slightly as he passes it and knocks an unfamiliar fruit into his bag. The pony running the stall glanced at him slightly, chuckling to herself at his ineptitude. He smiled back, muttering a small apology. Marveling at the ease of his conquest, Sketch happily trots off towards the centre of town, looking not at the ponies surrounding him, but the structure of the town itself. The roads, layout, style... He admonished his earlier scathing thought. It was quite a well designed town. He noticed though, that there were little to no guards, and the buildings followed a haphazard style other than their original layout. He slipped into an shadowy alleyway leading away from the docks "These ponies.." he said to himself quietly in a small awed voice, "Have never known war."

11. The Strand (G.E. South) The southern coast of Equestria's main continent is framed by its famous white-sand beaches and dotted with fishing hamlets. Here the great open prairie and breadbasket known as the Saddleveil Plains lies dotted with splendid cities such as Fillydelphia, and Hoofington. Celestia's domain spreads even further south with the various exotic tropical Gallopocus Islands that extend almost to the lands of the Zebras. Cities of the Strand Fillydelphia - Sitting in the middle of the vast Saddleveil Plain, the city is a transport hub between the Heartland of Equestria and the Griffon lands beyond, Fillydelphia is a mid-sized urban area populated by artisans, small business, and light industry workers. With its old fashioned look and feel, Fillydelphia occupies a comfortable middle ground between the big-city bustle of Manehattan and the small-town charm of Ponyville. Baltimare - One of Equestria's preeminent ports, the affluent city of Baltimare is regarded as a major center of trade with Unyasi and the Gallopocus Islands. Tourists come to the city to board luxury cruise liners and see the famous Baltimare Boardtrot. Corralwood Corral - Equestria's ultimate tropical resort, Corralwood Corral is the most significant center of population in the Gallopocus Islands. Famous for its perfect beaches and upscale resorts, Corralwood Corral is well regarded as a prime spot for tourists. Major Natural Features Saddleveil Plains – A vast, rolling temperate grasslands punctuated by small islands of deciduous trees, the Saddleveil Plains stretches the entire length of the Strand. Most of the land is fertile and well watered, making it ideal for agriculture with all manner of farms spouting from the nearly featureless landscape. West of the Manebrush river, the plains become drier and are much better suited for grazing; many buffalo tribe wander this otherwise very sparely populated portion. Gallopocus Islands - A large grouping of islands several miles off the coast of the mainland, the Gallopocus are dominated by mountains, the greatest of which is the now extinct Thunderhoof Volcano. Hardened lava and black sand beaches play host to a wide variety of tropical flora and fauna, while small pony and hippogriff settlements adorn the coast of the various islands, the largest of which is Corralwood Corral, which serves as the central trade hub and tourist playground for the island chain. Mustangia - An open prairie that holds the richest soil in all of Equestria. Here the ponies choose to live simple lives eschewing cities and modern amenities instead deciding to be farmers or simple individuals who live entirely in tune with the wild. Okeanos - An ancient city lost to a devastating storm and submerged beneath the ocean, Okeanos is said to be full of mysteries. Adventurous ponies are known to seek the city out in hopes of unearthing its secrets. Other geographical features The coast of the Strand is punctuated by various bays. The largest of all of Equestria's bays, the Seasaddle, sits just north of the Gallopocus Islands. Known for its abundant warm, clean water and rich fisheries, Seasaddle is also the busiest body of water in all of Equestria. In addition to the largest, Seasaddle, there is also the much quieter Suntrot Bay, as well as the White Cafe Bay, the outwash for the large Manebrush River that services Fillydelphia. One of the most scenic locations in this coastal region is the Bridleback Shore, a vast beach area between Suntrot and Seasaddle that is home to many ancient ruins of mystery and legend. Another famed feature of the region is Mount Fire Foal, unlike its taller cousin, Mount Thunderhooves, Fire Foal is still an active volcano, and offers a spectacle of flaming light and color in both day and night as bright lava regularly spews froth from its fiery crater; fortunately there are no nearby settlements in danger from this cauldron of lava.
12. Name: Pizza Peel Sex: Male Age: Stallion Species: Earth pony Pelt Color: Pale yellow (FFED8A). Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: His bright red (E6503C) mane and tail are on the short side of medium-length, and – despite Peel's best efforts – naturally unkempt. Eye Color: Bright green (6BED54). Cutie Mark: A wooden pizza peel (a kind of paddle used for moving pizzas in and out of ovens). Physique: Pizza Peel is slightly shorter than average, and not very heavily built; although wiry, he is not muscular. Being an active pony and quite busy keeping his pizzeria running, he carries very little extra weight. Origin: Pizza Peel was born in distant Italily, but impatient with the sleepy life of his homeland and seeking a useful niche, he departed Italily for Equestria, eventually settling in Hoofington after visiting several coastal cities. Roleplay Type: Mane RP Occupation: He is, as he puts it, a 'pizzaiolo': a pizza-maker. After arriving in Hoofington, he used his savings to acquire a small two-story building, the lower floor of which he turned into a kitchen and pizzeria (although space is limited enough that most of the actual seating is outdoors). Although pizza is his specialty, he also produces and sells other baked goods as time allows. Motivation: Pizza Peel believes that life is worth living because of its simple pleasures. He particularly believes in the value of good food, not only because of the satisfaction of eating it, but because of its ability to bring ponies together around a table. As such, both in private life and in work he takes food, and particularly pizza, quite seriously. It need not be fancy, but it must be made from good ingredients, and must be made well and correctly, and he takes enormous satisfaction in doing so. He runs his pizzeria with these principles in mind, and looks forward to one day being able to afford better premises so that he can achieve them more easily. Likes: (optional) Pizza and pizza-making, food, keeping busy, company, warm clear weather Dislikes: (optional) Badly-made food, boredom, isolation, rain, cold Character Summary: Pizza Peel was born in the hilltop village of Trottinara in Italily. He comes from an agricultural background; his father Zest tended orange, lemon and olive trees on the hillsides, while his mother Semolina, a baker, came from a family of wheat farmers in the valley below. Semolina taught her son to bake, and he quickly discovered a talent for making pizza; but he found little opportunity to make a living from it in a land where pizza was already plentiful. Peel chafed at the limitations of a crowded trade and sleepy village life, and upon reaching stallionhood sought his fortune in Equestria. Originally arriving in Manehattan, where several of his cousins already lived, he recently relocated to the friendlier atmosphere of Hoofington. Peel is devoted to his craft, both as his passion and the source of his livelihood; being the only pony keeping up his pizzeria takes up most of his day. This is possibly a good thing, since he is very energetic and, if unoccupied, he becomes restless and irritable. As things stand, he is generally cheerful during working hours, singing while he works and chatting with customers in his spare moments. He enjoys seeing ponies gathered around a table and eating together nearly as much as he enjoys making the food. After hours, he's generally too tired to be bored, but he is more somber. Despite the care and forethought he applies to food and to his business, he is not otherwise a deep thinker, and can be very emotional. Although not stupid, there are many things he does not find to be important, and treats these subjects lightheartedly. Those which he does find important he tends to judge by strength of feeling rather than by thinking about it. When passionate about something, he can come across as an impulsive romantic; when at ease, as unduly unconcerned, even clownish. He strives to be friendly and can be quite entertaining, but ponies of a more serious or deliberate frame of mind may find dealing with him to be a trying experience. Pizza Peel has as yet little social life. He has not been in Hoofington long enough to get to know many ponies, and most of them are customers; he runs his pizzeria by himself and has little free time. On top of this, he still feels very much a stranger in Equestria, and the process of adjusting to his surroundings has sometimes been a painful one; this can be a barrier in his dealings with others.
13. Name: Saffron Gender: Mare Age: Older than her roommates, who are the same age as the main cast, around Cheerilee's age. Species: Earth Pony Pelt Color: very warm pale golden-yellow Mane/Tail Color & Style: Rich deep sunset tones of dark fuschia, deep orange-red, a brilliant orange, and a brilliant golden yellow. Eye Color: Very deep plum, almond-shaped (similar to Celestia's) and darkly lined. Cutie Mark: A purple saffron crocus Physique: Petite, more curvy than athletic. Residence: Hoofington Occupation: Chef, sort of. She is an aspiring chef but has been saddled with a dilapidated boardwalk that she needs to repair and run. Motivation: To get her grandsire’s beloved boardwalk back up and running, and then opening a fabulous café focusing on seaside favorites. Likes: Dislikes: Character Summary: Saffron was born to seasonally nomadic ponies near the shores of Seasaddle Bay. Her romantically-minded sire Busker, a wandering musician, and slightly flighty baker/cook of a dam, Rosemary, were less concerned with being liked by the community than they were of raising their only child in a carefree environment where she would learn to interact with the world around her. They felt that living within nature and following the freshest food sources as they became available was in the best interest of their growing foal, so they sold their house in Ponyville, and joined up with a ragtag caravan/commune of wanderers to form kind of a pony-drawn wagon train that moved from town to town with the seasons. Even though the ponies had never heard of the Earth band, the Beatles, their motto was still “I’ll get by with a little help from my friends”, and get by they did in their small adopted, traveling family. Everypony had a job, and helped each other out using their special talents so there was very little need for bits in her family. When she was quite a young filly, the caravan went to an abandoned field near her Grandfather Barker's (her father’s sire, they had not been on speaking terms, as Barker doesn’t quite approve of his son’s chosen lifestyle but then they reconciled, which is another story) Boardwalk amusement park, Luna* Park, in the beachside community of Hoofington for an entire summer. The rich scents of fried foods, the flashing lights reflecting off the waves, and the aura of excitement surrounding the rides and the games enchanted Saffron. She especially loved the carousel, and her grandfather who was kindly to her and let her help out by selling tickets to it. After that every summer she and her parents set up camp on the outskirts of Hoofington for the duration of her summer holidays. Additionally the field, which was part of the parcel of land that Barker had purchased to build his amusement park way back before even Busker was born) had at one time been a small farm with an orchard, so perennial crops like leeks, kale, sweet potato, olives and fruit trees still grew there, so there was always plenty to eat. Saffron always looked forward to these summers where she could be with her grandfather, and wrote to him often. As a school-age filly she was made fun of for not exactly having a traditional home (for her parents did send her to school, but she would have to switch schools every season) quite a bit, but Saffron was never a pony to let what others thought about her get her down. Sometimes it was difficult, but there were so many interesting things to see in the world, and so many ways for her to occupy herself that the opinions of a few misguided foals ruin her cheery disposition. She learned to cook at an early age, helping her mother with stews in the giant cauldron full of delicious stews, giant roasted pumpkins, braised greens. It was clear that while being a cook was Rosemary’s special talent, her pretty young daughter would surpass her pretty quickly, as Saffron was much more open to experimentation, and just had a flair for knowing what flavors went together. One of their journeys one spring brought them to the place where the crocuses that provided the spice that she was named after grew in abundance. She got to watch the harvest, awed at how much had to be harvested to just make a little amount of She was eager to try her hand at cooking with it; after all, if you plan to be a chef, and you are named after a spice, you might as well try to incorporate it in a dish at least once in your life! The harvesters also gave her a number of bulbs once they found out why she was so interested. Later that summer, she took some seaweed, various rices, the almost meaty textured seaflower, some watercress and some thick-bodied mushrooms she found in the camp in Hoofington and she had delectable paella. She presented her dish to the caravan. They instantly loved it, and it became a summer favorite. With a tingle on her flanks her cutie mark appeared, and she was quite content that it was something so predictable and straightforward in her zany life. Also that summer at Luna Park she also met Brass Ring, who had by that time not decided on the name Calliope, and did not yet have her cutie mark. The two fillies had been admiring the carousel, and chatting as young like-minded filles often do when they meet by chance during summer vacation. They would probably have been instant best friends if they had both lived locally. Alas, it was a brief moment in time, but both of them would always wonder what happened to the other, and regretted not getting each other’s address to be pen pals. The seasons drifted on, and Saffron enrolled in culinary school in Fillydelphia, a larger city but still not too far from the shore. She still kept in touch with her parents and her uncle Barker through the mail, but as she grew up and pursued her dreams of being a chef in the "big city", those letters got more and more infrequent. The young mare was simply too busy with her own life, and lost touch as young adult often do. After a few seasons had whipped by, each bringing their own unique flavors based on the foods available, summer rolled by yet again, and with it her hankering for her favorite dish, the one that earned her her cutie mark. She sublet her flat in Fillydelphia to her good friend Beautiful Dreamer for the summer, taking only her travelling tent and her outdoor cooking utensils, as well as her satchels of previous spices and a few carefully wrapped specimens of herbs she could grow in the sandy soil, and hopefully establish a few herb beds, and add to the already planted saffron crocus bed in the old orchard where her parents had camped year after year when she was young. With some luck, she'd be able to come back year after year herself! When she arrived back in Hoofington, she was astonished to see just how long it had been since she'd last been there, and just how old Barker had become. His health was deteriorating fast, almost as fast as the once beautiful boardwalk. She agreed to stay in the town, and put her dreams on hold to help out her grandsire, both out of love for the old, silly pony and nostalgia for the park Today she lives in the top of the carousel house, in a flat arranged around a central hub with her two best friends, Beautiful Dreamer (who had previously sublet her flat in Hoofington), a debutant who, let's face it, had nothing better to do, and Calliope, who opened the first boutique store in the work-in-progress that was the old arcade building. When she is not trying, with the help of her friends, to restore the boardwalk to its former status of jewel of the Sea Saddle coast, she is busy inventing recipes. Once the boardwalk is repaired and bringing in revenue again, she will settle down to her real dream of opening a cute little seaside café on the premises. Personality: Saffron is the kind of pony who almost always sees the best in any situation. In fact about the only thing that has ever gotten this mare glum is the realization that her grandfather was sick, and how in disrepair the boardwalk had become. Because she had an unconventional upbringing, she sometimes gets a little shocked about how much things cost, and how sometimes other ponies are unwilling to help or trade with others, as she is used to her "family"'s selflessness when it came to each other. The fact that real life is not quite as idyllic as her family doesn't get her down though. She has a lot of hard lessons to learn now that she is going to be having a career where one is EXPECTED to make money off other ponies. *Any name similar to a certain pony is merely coincidence.
14. On the point of Bucking shore beach, just on the outside of the Seasaddle Bay's protective cove, and outside of Hoofington's city limits there stood a lighthouse. The lighthouse was just over 100 feet tall and the house attached to it was just about half of that lengthwise. There were numerous outbuildings, none of which had a discernible purpose from the outside. A chest high split rail fence surrounded the abandoned looking complex which never seemed to have a soul around it. Despite the lighthouse's appearance, every night the light could be seen for miles as it searched the darkness for lost sailor ponies. When the fog would roll in the fog horn would awaken. Like a slumbering beast that was awakened in the night it would roar out into the dense fog, tearing it asunder like a blade in the night, beaconing for the seas to come and swallow it up. The gear on the side of the tower never stopped turning, slow as molasses seeping through an igloo. Inch my pain staking inch it turned, through the blistering heat, through the shattering cold. Like the creeping progression of time the gear moved forward. Somepony . . . or something had to be keeping that lighthouse alive. There were rumors of a phantom that haunted the light house. The ghost of a keeper past, that was tied to Equestria, bound to the lighthouse, forever walking its floors and keeping the light in running order. Colts and fillies would dare each other as to who could get the closest to the house. They never had gotten halfway into the yard before somepony would see a flutter of movement in a window or the pale frame of the 'Specter Keeper' wash past the lower level windows, causing the intruding ponies to head for the hills. As vivid at these tales of the haunted lighthouse were, there was but only an ounce of truth behind them. There was a pony there that was bound to the house, not by ethereal means, but by contract. She was the paid keeper of the lighthouse. Her name was Rivet and although she had occupied the lighthouse for just over a year, she rarely went into town and when she did, most of the town ponies thought she was just a traveler who refused to talk. She had all of her supplies and mail drop shipped to her house mostly by air-ship. She was not an antisocial pony, she was just not good at making friends. She was also almost always covered in a thick layer of grease, grime, and all sorts of other various dirt. She would watch the ponies adventure onto her lawn, she would never go out and greet them just watch them interact with one another. She would work on her projects and make improvements to the lighthouse. She had brought back this dilapidated monstrosity back from the verge of collapse and she was not going to stop there. She had grand visions of a new age of mechanization sweeping across Equestria with her helping it along. Even though most of her inventions were just improvements on already established designs, a pony can dream can't she. At this juncture in time Rivet was working on the internal superstructure of the light tower. She was reinforcing it making sure that an air-ship wold be able to dock on the observation deck without tearing the top of the light tower off. On this rare occasion she was standing on the observation deck and letting the wind rip past her face and through her braided mane. Her greasy pale form was highlighted by the sun against the cloudless sky. The sun was warming her pelt and she was happy. It had been a long day of working and this rest felt wonderful. She could easily be seen from the ground despite her height off of it. A strong wind gusted past her, causing her to stumble. She hurried back inside, not wanting to fall off the top. She wandered through her house, there must be something she could do to spruce the place up a little. It may have been a mech-engineer's wonderland but it was a little sparse. She walks outside of her house and looked at it. 'Maybe the flower boxes, I could plant some flowers there.' she pondered to herself rubbing a hoof to her chin.
