  1. Added art piece by GenesOfAwesome.
  2. From the album: Regular Cast Pics

I don't think people really liked my stylized, purposely harsh Dash obsessive speed picture, so I debated finishing this at all. However I went ahead, again I took liberty with style and shading rather than stick to my more "canon" FiM style for this image. It came out alright, unlike the Dash one where the lines were purposely black, these are colorized and softer, which strangely works better here. The premise is pretty self-explanatory, Spitfire is racing the Shadowbolt Raven in a very serious contest of speed. Both are pushing themselves to the edge in order to win and prove which group (in their minds) is "the best".

  3. Edited to include Pony Sages suggestions. Name: Yahom ( Stagename: Cyclone Frenzy ) Sex: Male Age: Stallion Species: Pegasus/Zebra Coat Color: His coat is a dark lustrous golden color(B4A930), with a black patch over his muzzle. His cheeks, forelimbs, and hind-limbs are also lightly striped with black. Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Yahom's mane is a wild windblown blonde(FEFA86) mohawk, that is sparsely streaked with black. His tail is similarly messy and colored, and completely covered in hair like a normal ponies. The hair is bound around the base with black cloth into a 'pony-tail'. Eye Color: Yahom has exotic looking almond shaped light green(00FE47) eyes. Cutie Mark: Yahom's cutie-mark is a twisting tornado rendered in sharply arched black and red stripes. Physique: Yahom is averaged sized for a pegasus pony, and is not too tall or too short. He is a slender pony with a slightly longer neck, slim legs, and a narrow angular head and muzzle. He is in good shape, though he has more of a wirey sort of muscle meant for speed rather than strength. He is quick, agile, and has good endurance while in the air. More accustomed to using his wings, he is a much better flyer than runner, and tires easily when put to the test on the ground. Origin: Yahom was born of two worlds. His father, a highborn pegasus pony named Look'n'Listen, was a cultural equinologist from Trottingham, who ventured to the mysterious continent of Unyasi for the sake of researching and documenting uncontacted Zebra cultures. On the northern banks of Unyasi, he met Moyo, a female zebra fortuneteller practiced in the arts of Uchawi. She along with a small host of other Zebras agreed to be his guides on his ventures inland. For years Look'n'Listen traveled the interior of Unyasi with Moyo, and eventually the two became sworn mates. It was not long after, that their son came into the world. In the custom of her coastal people, Moyo recognized her mixed son as possessing a great gift, and named him Yahom, which means 'with the wind' in the Zebra tongue. Unyasi was his first home yet not his home, and as his parents traveled he grew and lived with many tribes of zebras yet he was a member of no tribe at all. Years later, when Yahom was a young colt, his father convinced his mother to return with him to Trottingham. They set off on their own journey, leaving the grasslands to head into the heart of Equestrian Empire. In Trottingham, the family found a permanent home, and there Yahom spent the rest of his foalhood immersed in his father's culture. Today, he lives with his elderly mother in her fortune-telling shop. Roleplay Type: Equestria Mane RP Occupation: Yahom is a reserve for the Shadowbolts, who is occasionally called in to replace members who cannot perform. His specialty are stunts and tricks involving wind, particularly tornados. To supplement this part time work, he helps his mother out with her shop. Motivation: Yahom earned his cutie-mark through a sheer foolish accident. One day, back in his foalhood on the dusty savannah of Unyasi, there was a terrible dust storm. Great cyclones of dust and grit traveled the grasslands, and sent the native inhabitants securing themselves and their young to safety. Yahom's parents were unable to locate their errant son, and instantly feared the worst. Their son had an unfortunate daredevil streak, and had not fled before the storm but chased it. He had never seen anything like it, and a healthy sense of boyish adventure drew him to the display of natures power like a moth to the flame. He only meant to watch it from a distance but as they say curiosity killed the cat. It also sucked the colt into the dust-devil. Sheer miraculous dumb luck prevented the young Pegasus from being seriously harmed beyond a sprained leg, and they found him laughing, covered in dust, with a new cutie-mark. His cutie-mark represents the wild side of himself that he found validated that day, and his drive for adrenaline. It also represents an acceptance of his pegasus heritage. As a stallion his ambitions are great, to perform as a Shadowbolt, an organization filled with ponies as crazy and reckless as he is. Through these performances, he hopes to become rich in order to support himself and his mother, and famous enough to finally feel like he belongs somewhere. Likes: Moyo, Shadowbolts, racing, dizziness, sports, parties, bits, Zebra cooking, winning, flying, windy days, heat, jewelry, foals, birds, outdoors Dislikes: Books, school, losing, boredom, being alone, moving, formal dress, shopping, ponies who ask him what he is Character Summary: As a foal in Unyasi, being half-pegasus earned him strange stares, and more than a few unkind words from his peers. Despite the love and assurances his parents gave him, Yahom wasn't truly proud of who he was, and cared too much about what the other foals said. As any young boy would, he overcompensated and struggled for the other Zebras acceptance, while shunning the pegasus aspects of himself. He never flew, but he did develop into a brash young pony with a reputation for doing wild, dangerous, and sometimes stupid things. He loved the looks of disbelief and grudging awe on the Zebra colts faces almost as much as he came to enjoy the feeling of adrenaline rushing through him. Yahom did not truly learn to fly, or accept his differences until the day he was pulled into the dust-devil. The feeling of being violently airborne did not discourage him from flying as his parents feared, but it did serve to give him a taste for it. He chased this new passion with a will, and became an adept flyer. However this acceptance of his wings served to set him more apart from his peers, despite all his daring aerial maneuvers. He was brave no doubt, but he still wasn't a Zebra. Yahom and his family got a new start when they left Unyasi and headed into the Equestrian empire proper. There Yahom faced a reversal of prejudice. Suddenly his pegasus side was what was alright, but it was the slender build and stripes that made the highborn ponies of Trottingham stare at him and his mother with critical eyes. Sure, he looked like a pegasus, but he wasn't really a pegasus. Today as a stallion, Yahom is still dealing with this conflict between his heritage, though to a lesser extent. He is more used to the norms and values of Zebra culture from his youth, and though he has since become proficient in mainstream pony culture aspects of Zebra creep though. His voice is accented, and his manner of dress and the jewelry he wears all have a mild Unyasi influence. He is proud of who he is, yet the subject remains a sensitive issue with him. He has a temper on him, and will quickly get angry at perceived insults especially those that bring up his stripes. He's just as wild and crazy as he was in his youth, and though he is daring, he is also quite exhausting to be around. He lacks subtlety in any manner, and can be quite a sore loser. He finds it difficult to back down from challenges, and he can find a way to make a challenge out of almost anything. Yahom is not a deep or thoughtful pony by any means, and he rather enjoy life than waste it doing something 'boring.' With all that said, Yahom is a dependable and reliable pony, who stands by his decisions and is willing to accept consequences. He is also fiercely loyal to those he's close to, and he cares deeply for his mother, Moyo. He is friendly and boisterously playful, if a bit loud. He believes that work should be fun, and in not waiting to do anything you want to do. He's dedicated to his amateur acrobatics, and to his reserve position with the Shadowbolts. He performs as much for fame, enjoyment, and money as he does for sheer acceptance. When he puts on the uniform and risks his life, he is not half zebra or half pegasus. He is a whole, a member of the team, a Shadowbolt. Made using GeneralZoi's pony creator.
  4. Name: Blueberry 'Midnight Dove' Blossom Sex: Female Age: Mare Species: Pegasus Pelt Color: Violet Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Mane and tail are Fuschia she keeps her mane and tail long enough to touch the ground, but when she flies with the shadowbolts she usually ties it back. Eye Color: Royal Blue Cutie Mark: A bush of berries Physique: Lean and fit with strong wings Origin: Cloudsdale Roleplay Type: Mane RP Occupation: Fruit Merchant and Shadowbolt Motivation: To become famously know for her great and daring flying skills or for great berries Likes: Berries, flowers, fast pace, flying, night, wine, speed Dislikes: Creatures who steal her berries, bugs, foals, nothing to do Character Summary: Blueberry Blossom was an average foal she wasn't too unique got average grades and a good pair of friends, but she always never seemed to enjoy anything. Nothing could truly make her smile; try as she might to find something that could thrill her like she's seen every other pony excited about one thing or another. Blueberry found her life to be quite dull through most of her foalhood and the first few months into fillyhood until one day she passed by a bushel of fruit on a short flying trip to Nimbusgait Lake. She'd never seen this sort of fruit in Cloudsdale something about this fruit intrigued her Blueberry landed right next to the bush and picked off the ripest fruit on the bush. It was a blackberry and the flavour of it sent her heart a flutter the sweetly bitter taste made her want more, to make more, to share it all with the world! There was only one problem sooner or later ponies will get sick of just one berry. So she searched the fields and found a few more blueberries, raspberries and such she took some of each and planted them excited for the first time in her life. Her mouth watered slightly at the thought of these seeds growing into the delicious berries she just ate. After an hour or two of hard work she tore herself away from her work and flew home eager to go back and check on it the next day. She continued checking on them for almost two months until the berries were fully grown Blueberry taste tested each berry they all tasted exactly how it did when she first tried it except it felt even sweeter because she grew them on her own. Suddenly it hits her that this is what she was meant to do, to grow berries and sell them for all to enjoy. Maybe even become famous for her home grown fruits! Turning around to fly back home she noticed something on her flank at first she thought it was a piece of dirt that got stuck to it, but upon further inspection Blueberry learned that she had earned her cutie-mark! She flew home head held high thanks to those little berries. Once Blueberry was old enough to live a life on her own she soon moved to a nice plot of land near Whitetail woods. She heard that the soil there was rich enough to support a whole field of any sort of plant life, shortly after planting everything Blueberry was once again bored with life she loved planting berries and getting the results back, but it all took so long to do! She wondered around the nearest town Canterlot in search of something to do to pass the time. She looked everywhere for a good part time job, but nothing satisfied her feeling lost and hopeless she heard a rumour about a new team on the rise a aerial team of pegasi who do dangerous stunts for fun and money. This peaked Blueberry's interests seeing as her plants will do fine without her for a few weeks the young mare set out to find this team who were known as the ShadowBolts. Blueberry traveled from Whitetail woods to Manehattan to Fillydelphia and then to Ponyville. All unsuccessful in hopes of finding the ShadowBolts as she got home to tend to her berries a good friend of hers informed her that the Shadowbolts were in Canterlot but only for a few more hours it was almost sundown. Excitement pulsed through her veins at such news quickly she tended to her garden then dashed off to Canterlot hoping to meet the famous team. She didn't find the Shadowbolts but she found the next best thing, their manager! Blueberry begged and pleaded for the pony to give her one shot after 5 minutes he caved and told her to show him what she's got. Immediately Blueberry shot into the air not wanting to waste time. During her trips to the other cities Blueberry worked on her flying maneuvers and tricks preparing for when she'd finally get this chance. She not only displayed her grace, but her speed and control of how she flies for her final trick she flew high into the sky her shadow caste down onto the manager in the rising moonlight she dived straight for the ground wings tucked in at her sides a few moments before she hit the Blueberry opened her wings and pulled up, but not fast enough she hitting her front hoof on the ground but didn't slow down she zigzagged between the line of trees at fast speed grazing her wings on the bark a few times, but she finished her trick and landed in front of the manger out of breath. The manager was impressed with her work even though she needs a little more fine tuning, but would be an excellent addition to the Shadowbolts. That day was one of the best days of her life, next to the day she earned her cutie-mark that is, she earned the nickname Midnight Dove and was guaranteed that she could work for the Shadowbolts and be a fruit merchant during the off seasons. Blueberry Blossom is a laid back sort of pony she doesn't find much excitement in almost anything most think she's cold and heartless because of this. Most don't understand how she can grow such fine berries with that attitude Blueberry doesn't care about what other ponies think of her and never tries to go out of her way to please anypony. Blueberry Blossom took the starter position in the Shadowbolts because she wants to do every show she can before the harvest begins and when she leaves for home a reserve pony member takes her place. 5. Name: Nightshade Sex: Male Age: Stallion Species: Pegasus Pelt colour: Light Blue to Cyan Mane/Tail/Markings colour & Style: Hair swept back by wind, never bothers to do anything about it. Tail is also fairl messy due to the extreme speeds he is constantly exposed to. Both are a darker blue colour. Quite similar to that of Soarin' Eye colour: Purple, wears goggles most of the time. Cutie Mark: Dark purple cloud Physique: Thin, very maneuverable. Yet he is not weak either. Origin: Being born in a fairly rich family in Cloudsdale, Nightshade was rather spoiled in his early life. His parents were very protective of his well being, mainly due to his interest in dangerous things when he was young, also, multiple times he had gotten into dangerous situations inside his own home, including one instance where he ended up hanging from a chandelier while his wings were still in their weaker stages. After begging his parents for a chance to enroll in JSFS, they eventually broke down and let him attend. He began to train more than normal, as if to make up for all the years he's missed out on. His days in JSFS were rather short, considering the length of the actual program being not very long. He continued to practice though, without the restraint of his parents yanking his tail as they grew accustomed to his training, they still monitored it, to stop any dangerous events from occurring. However they didn't do a very good job of it... Roleplay Type: Mane RP Occupation: Shadowbolt Captain Personality: Calm at times, serious nearly always. Very respectful of ambitious recruits, as well as any pegasus that shows motive. Uncaring in terms of negative show results that occur within the stands to a certain degree. He dislikes a lack of revenue and un-prepared Pegasi on his squad. He believes that if the ponies are there to see extreme risk takers, they must take a few risks themselves. (Yes this is a bit grimdark but this is the attitude of a Shadowbolt) Not one to burst out in anger, although keeping it bottled up usually effects his personality greatly for a short while. Only yells when disrespected or when shouting over the roar of the winds in-flight to his squad. Not extremely approachable most of the time. An easy way to get his attention is to offer any baked goods that involve blueberries. Should this offer be fake, he will be pretty mad. Scones and Tarts are things he doesn't joke around about. Motivation: Out-maneuver and out-shine the oh-so-popular Wonderbolts. His hatred of them knows nearly no bounds. His squadron has nearly surpassed the Wonderbolts in speed and agility, however they probably never will, what they lack in that field, they make up for in the "extremeness" of their stunts. They have yet to earn the notoriety they desire. Likes: Winning, Speed and Agility, Training, Nighttime, Coming up with new techniques, cooking ( surprisingly good at it ), Blueberry anything, his squadron, recruiting, facing off with the Wonderbolts, did I mention winning? Spas (his parents owned the most popular one in Cloudsdale.) Dislikes: Loosing, Wonderbolts, Daytime, New recruits that show a lack of motive, pones with a lack of common sense, Annoying noises, suit misfitting, "no"s, Pegasi that don't make good use of their wings. Character Summary: Hailing from Cloudsdale, Nightshade was a fairly sociable Pegasus. During his years at Junior Speedsters Flight school, he witnessed an event that strongly influenced his motivation. A rainbow-maned Pegasus named Rainbow Dash performed a Sonic Rainboom during a race, which inspired him to try more extreme flying tricks. He never got the chance to meet her, but he'd seen her during other incidents, and her unique mane really made her stand out in his mind. His parents were very strict, disallowing any flight practice that included anything considered "dangerous" to them; which tended to be most of the stuff he was interested in. His intensity in his training became increasingly apparent as he grew, he began practicing moves recognized by other pegasi as "hazardous." The word didn't scare him though, he was determined to be the best of the best. He decided to form a clique, inspired by the sonic rainboom, to practice flying and increase the severity of their stunts. Nearly all of the moves they practiced were all to increase their chances of getting accepted into the wonderbolt squadron. However, thanks to an extreme incident during one of his groups practice sessions, in which one of the Pegasi was left crippled for a few months, they were forced to disband the clique, also getting three of them expelled from the JSFS simultaneously. His constant "tricks and maneuvers" after the clique disbanded got him into various forms of trouble; the most serious when one of his practice sessions ended up injuring two pegasi that just happened to be in his vicinity. This incident didn't phase his attitude however. He continued to practice these moves until he perfected them, there was no room for error in his book, it was either a perfected move, or a scrapped one. He began to migrate away from the norm, he left Cloudsdale in pursuit of a new place to practice without interruption. The Everfree forest appealed to his needs and therefore became his home, he constructed a rather large hut in the deepest parts of the forest, killing his sociable attitude. After years of practicing without interruption, he became one of the best pegasi flyers to ever come out of Cloudsdale, however his efforts went unnoticed. He hatched a thought that joining the wonderbolts would give him the recognition he wanted, and his practices wouldn't be wasted. The Pegasus signed up for tryouts, and a week later it was his turn to show them his stuff. He pulled off many stunts, one of which he nearly crashed during. The wonderbolts took some time to decide, and after a 3/4 vote, he was accepted into the ranks, given his suit and his title, and they set off. He toured with them, having a pretty great time wherever he went. After a few months had passed, the wonderbolts began to recognize his stunts getting more dangerous, and more unruly. They decided for this to go unsaid for a bit, until they knew for sure that he was loosing his game. Another month passed, and Nightshade's attitude became more self-centered and rotten; some examples being his disregard of orders and complete dis-recognition of the welfare of those around him, including the audience. He was confronted about these dangerous stunts and newfound attitude. The wonderbolts asked him to "tone-down the danger factor in his stunts and put his head back with everypony else's. He refused, to put it simply. This led to a very wary group of wonderbolts monitoring him very closely from as far away as possible, while maintaining a team. That next week, a show was scheduled for trottingham at 11:00am sharp. The stands were full, the crowd was noisy with gossip. The wonderbolts were in their own area, preparing themselves for the show, and planning their stunts accordingly. After an hour of prep, they were nearly ready to go. Nightshade was told what to do, but seemingly ignored the wonderbolt. After being asked again, he said "yeah, sure" and kept walking; with a lack of care apparent in his voice. The show began as usual, with the reserves opening with some stunts they usually used; nothing out of the ordinary. It was now the main squad's time to perform, and they were ready. They pulled off a few well executed stunts. Aweing the crowd and sending cheers throughout the stands. About thirty minutes into the show, Nightshade broke away from the squad and emulated a very dangerous stunt that he examined in a book earlier that day, despite the stunt going off without a hitch, the wonderbolts didn't like the severity of it, but as to avoid confusion and annoyance among the standswith an abrupt stop, they simply went on with the show, rather than postponing the rest of the show. Not even fifteen minutes later, Nightshade, yet again broke from the squad, using another dangerous stunt, only this one didn't go so well. Nightshade crashed through a cloud pillar holding up the rain cover, letting it fall onto the ponies below. Despite this incident leaving only three ponies slightly injured, it caused an uproar in the crowd and an evacuation nearly immediately. Nightshade was yanked back to the prep area seemingly content, contrary to how he should have been, knowing he just caused this affair. He was planted on his feet and his goggles were taken off. The head wonderbolt confronted him, told him he was too dangerous, and was promptly kicked off the team. This enraged him, made him more disrupt than ever before. Soon after the kick, it made head news, becoming a huge topic in Cloudsdale's limits, making Nightshade an outcast yet again. He immediately blamed the wonderbolts for his firing and began to despise working for them. Seeking comfort in his old home in the Everfree forest, he spent a couple months hulled up in his abode, undisturbed by any outsiders. He developed a hatred for the Wonderbolts, slowly getting more and more angered with them with each passing day, but unaware of how to get revenge One misty day, during a routine flight pattern over the forest, he spotted a familiar multi-colored mane near three figures. He recognized her as "Dashie" by many of her past and present, the pony who'd inspired him back in JSFS. Curious about the situation, Nightshade landed near the cyan pegasus and the three figures and hid, eavesdropping on their conversation. The middle of the three Pegasus figures opposite of the mare introduced all three of them as the "Shadowbolts" a rival group to the Wonderbolts. After listening about their offer for a captain and RD's refusal, he looked at them just in time to catch their decomposement into purple dust that then vanished. Coming to the realization that this group was a fraud, he thought his dreams of getting back at the Wonderbolts was going to go unrealized. After a week of thinking, Nightshade hatched an idea; if he couldn't join the Shadowbolts, due to their unreal-ness, why not create them? It was certainly a good idea, many benefits as well. He could get revenge against the high-flying superstars, and show off his stuff. His team was thus hatched as an idea, and using the design of the fake's uniform, he made one perfectly fit for him. He designed the goggles just like the fake's as well, nearly recreating the illusion, except it was all too real this time. He donned his scarf and his outfit and set off, looking for a way to make his dreams a reality. During his travels, he met a pegasus straight out of cloudsdale living in canterlot, the pony was a newly-graduated business student and took great interest in Nightshade's endeavors after a few meetings. Soon after the two became good friends, the business pony took up the Shadowbolt's name and created the group that is known today. The business pony is currently the manager for the group, fetching any publicity options, and getting shows prepared. Nightshade currently wears his trademark tactical flying scarf nearly all the time now, as he believes it assists him in his flying stunts. It's his own personal touch and he loves it! 6. Name: LightWind Sex: Male Age: Stallion (early 20s) Species: Pegasus Pelt colour: Dark Indigo Mane/Tail/Markings colour and Style: Short Light Cyan mane with some of it covering the right side of his face; gels his mane back in the traditional swept back look when in Shadowbolts uniform. Short tail Eye colour: Black Cutie Mark: A pair of white feathery wings Physique: Average build, on the thin side Origin: Cloudsdale Roleplay Type: Mane Occupation: Former temp in Weather Control and former Wonderbolt reserve member, current Shadowbolt starter Motivation: Pretty much none whatsoever Likes: Flying, being alone, being inconspicuous, quiet DisLikes: Loud noises, public places, attention Character History: Born to the 2 best fliers from the prestigious Rainbow Painting Division, Equestrian Weather Control, LightWind was always considered to be just apple that had fallen a wee bit too far from the tree. While his parents were sociable and generally cheery, LightWind was stoic, somber, morose and quickly obtained the reputation of a pony of few words. His only saving grace, according to his parents, was that he had inherited his their talent for flying. From a young age, while the other pegasi foals were gingerly taking steps on the streets of Cloudsdale, LightWind had already taken to flitting for brief moments, only landing when he got tired. His parents were secretly proud of his rapid development, but they began to worry about their young colt’s temperament. Easily passing the entrance exams to Junior Flight School, LightWind’s talent quickly got him the attention of his peers and teachers as they praised his skills. As he garnered more and more attention from teacher and students alike for the ease that he picked up flying concepts, he began to adopt an increasingly withdrawn attitude; wincing when his teacher called his name till it became less and less frequent. He also preferred to leisurely fly home or hang out alone at the cloud fields on the outskirts of Cloudsdale thinking or flying around aimlessly after school while his classmates hung out, raced, ran obstacle courses and played. Eventually, he faded out of the scene and ponies began to forget his existence, something that suited him fine. His grades were also nothing to shout at, averaging 60% and no matter what his parents did, from cajoling to forceful punishment, was met with silence and disinterest and they never improved beyond that. One day, in acrobatics class, his teacher had just demonstrated a move, a simple loop the loop, and had asked the class to try to do it. One by one they failed, some spectacularly, but when it came to LightWind, he stepped up and to the astonishment of his classmates and pulled it off flawlessly, then glided past them to the back of group without a word or any emotion. As he landed he felt something and turned around, his cutie mark appeared that day. Upon graduation, LightWind’s apparent lack of interest in anything, aim in life and anything remotely resembling a work ethic made finding a trade hard for him, and he ended up temping in Weather Control more on account of, and to placate his parents than anything. A last ditch effort by his parents to make something out of their son led him to audition for the Wonderbolts. Like most of his flying related endeavours he managed to impress them enough to be offered a reserve spot. While he fit into their routines perfectly and carried himself well, his spotty attendance record and poor participation in training sessions and near flawless non-attendance for publicity events and when he did attend; he was likely to spent most of it hiding backstage or wandering around in the crowd (and blending in perfectly) out of uniform instead of being where he needed to be. This led to his ejection after just half a year. Taking to wandering (helped that he got fired while on tour a long way from home), LightWind eventually chanced upon the Everfree Forest. Living as a hermit, Lightwind eked out a solitary existence by scavenging what little he could find from the few fruit trees available and digging out herbs to eat, all the while getting what little entertainment he could giving the runaround to whatever large predatory creature that thought of him as a meal It is while escaping from a pride of manticores (mainly by making them stumble into trees and each other while trying to catch him) that he chanced upon a previously unexplored part of the Everfree forest. It was there that he noticed a lone pegasus seemingly practising the same moves over and over again. Watching that pegasus' dedication to his art stirred something in LightWind and for the first time in his life he began to regret his wasted chances in life and it finally dawned on him that for all his talent, he never really amounted to anything. He stepped up, mustered his courage and flew up to introduce himself. The pegasus was initially dismissive of LightWind and moved away to resume practice, but LightWind followed and managed to keep pace with the pegasus, mimicking his moves competently and he finally managed to impress that pegasus enough to stop and take note. Stopping finally for a break, that pegasus introduced himself as Nightshade, and eventually the topic of conversation (Nightshade did most of the talking ofc) drifted to their shared experiences in the Wonderbolts and Nightshade's desire to form a competing team. Initially, LightWind's old fears of being in the public spotlight surfaced and he wanted to decline the opportunity. Nightshade, however, after seeing LighWind's potential, remained insistent and finally LightWind agreed to join him to form the Shadowbolts. Character Summary: LightWind comes off as arrogant and aloof initially but that is mainly a by product of him not having a care or attachment to anything in this world and a desire to avoid attention. Blessed with seemingly boundless talent for flying, LightWind has never felt the need or seen the value in training or practice and would only do so reluctantly and for short bursts at a time. This usually ends up with him being accused of being just plain lazy; something he neither confirms or denies. He still shuns the limelight, and the attention of being a Shadowbolts member still gets to him, but slipping away now is much easier and secretly encouraged by his team since well, they get more attention without him around, and they do so love attention. Deep down inside, he understands that the Shadowbolts represent the potentially last hope for him to utilize his flying talent and while he won't show it outwardly, he's secretly attached to the team and concerned about its financial performance and popularity. His dependence on the Shadowbolts is mutual as they see him as one of their steadiest and most dependable members (stunts wise anyway) and there's no pony they'd rather have flying at them at speed for a staged close-mid-air-miss than LightWind. 7. Name: Opal Shards (stage name: Killer Frost) Sex: female Age: mare (mid 20s) Species: pegasus Pelt Color: brilliant white Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: different shades of blue, long Eye Color: red Cutie Mark: a shard of ice Physique: unusually tall, well trained. Origin: Roughrider Ridge Roleplay Type: Mane RP Occupation: Shadowbolt reserve Motivation: Earning bits with her flight talent and weather manipulation Likes: Bits, independence, cold weather, mountains Dislikes: flat land, draughts, heat Character Summary: Disheartened and bitter from her time in Cloudsdale, Opal Shards in only ever happy in the freezing cold. She doesn't talk much and tends to think little about the ponies around her, but she is loyal and honest (sometimes to a fault), and always works hard for her craft. Origins: Where she came from nopony knows. On a routine flight, a weather team found young Opal, still a little filly in an oasis close to the outskirts of the Roughrider Ridges. There were no settlements in a several hour flight radius, and after waiting for some hours, the leader of the weather team, an aging mare by the the name of Stormy Days decided to take the Filly with them. She didn't seem to want to stay there anyway, and was very weak. They decided to call her Opal Shards, because of the curious way her mane naturally curled, resembling crystals. They brought her back to their weather station: a series of lodges in the Roughrider Ridges. It was very secluded and only populated by a handful of pegasi who took care of all the weather around the mountain. Mail and supplies were brought in by monthly couriers. Stormy Days decided to keep Opal around. In the desert, it would be impossible to find her parents, and she always wanted a filly of her own, but never have had a chance to bear a foal herself. Her job up here in the mountains was well paid, but didn't allow for much of a social life. The others didn't object. It was rare for anything interesting to happened here in the mountains, so this was particularly exciting for all of them. For the first few months, Opal didn't talk at all. They didn't know if she hadn't learned how to talk yet, or if she perhaps didn't trust them, because all she did was staring at them, all the time. She observed everything they did around the station with keen eyes, which, coincidentally, made it very easy to look after her. She never wandered off or left the proximity of the camp. However, all that would change when winter came. Out in the desert, it wasn't such a big deal, but here in the mountains, it was a busy time for the weather teams. Lacking the big weather factories of Cloudsdale, the weather team instead had to rely on other means to start the winter. There were powders to fill the clouds with water and to cool the atmosphere, and they had perfected different flying techniques to bind the clouds together to black out the sun. Although looking indifferent at first, once the first snow fell, Opal couldn't be stopped. She jumped around in the cold, catching snow with her tongue and rolling around in the snow. For the first time, they saw her happy. Stormy Days was delighted, and even more so a few weeks later, when Opal showed growing interest in her trade. And so Stormy Days taught Opal in the art of weather manipulation. She was an eager learner, and showed big talent with the mixing of the different powders used by the weather teams outside the heartland. Not only that, but she was a natural flyer, too, learning to fly before the end of the winter. Now that she spoke, Stormy Days tried to ask her about where she came from, but with no results. Either she didn't remember, or she didn't want to talk about it, but either way, Stormy Days would never know. All facets of weather manipulation fascinated Opal. However, she was only really happy in the cold, and longed all year for the return of winter. So much so that one night, Opal sneaked out of her hut, and made her way to the nearest mountain top, to the snow border. Once the coldness crept back into her body, she felt alive like never before. There was little to no wind up there, and she flew up, soaring through the icy winds. It took the weather team hours to find her. She felt very cold, but was more lively then they had ever seen her. Stormy Days explained to her how dangerous her actions were but Opal wanted to hear nothing about it. Only when she heard how worried they all had been did she give in, and promised never to just run off again. In all the chaos, they almost didn't notice that Opal's cutie mark had appeared: a pointy shard of ice. And so the years past, and Opal grew into a big, strong mare, helping out the weather team, and waiting for them when they went on their routine flights. She sometimes went out to the mountain top with a tent and some equipment, just to be close to the cold. Stormy Days wasn't too happy about that. It was dangerous out there in the Roughrider Ridges all alone for a young mare. That's why she started to work on a little side project. One day, in the midst of summer, it started to snow outside Opal's window. She stormed out to find that there was a cloud over her hut, snowing down and covering it in white. She was confused, but when she thought about it and saw Stormy Days flying over her hut, she realized: Stormy Days had found a way to make snow clouds in every season. And not only that, but she would teach her how it worked. It was a very careful variation of the formulas the weather team used all the time. However, she made it clear to Opal that she had to be careful with this technique, since it could influence the natural seasons. Now that she didn't have to leave the camp anymore to have the cold around her, she was happier then ever. She would casually lower the temperature around her, even in the winter, but the team didn't mind, since it made her so happy. And aside from that, she worked hard, and delivered excellent results when helping the team. However, it occurred to Stormy Days that the life of the weather team wouldn't be enough for Opal. She saw that she longed for more, and she showed a lot of talent and promise. Stormy Days decided to send her to Cloudsdale, sending her to the central, so that she could learn even more about the weather, and maybe become part of one of their flight crews. So Opal set out, under lots of tears, to find her destiny. She traveled to Cloudsdale, heading straight for the weather center. However, without the credentials that are customary among the citizens of Cloudsdale, nopony was willing to give her a chance to prove herself. Luckily, the letter Stormy Days had written for her brought her a job in one of the cloud factories, where she would work for some time. It was hard work, which she didn't mind so much, but it was terribly monotonous. The pay was bad, and for the first time, she had to buy her own food. She lived in a small room in the worker district of Cloudsdale. On her tiny desk under her window, she carefully kept on working on the formulas she had learned from the weather team of the mountains. Opal hoped that one day, she would be given the chance to show her findings to her superiors, but that day would never come. She could hardly afford the raw materials needed for her experiments anyway, and had already started to hoof some of the stuff she needed from the factory, which was starting to get dangerous. She felt miserable, but she didn't want to crawl back to her family; she didn't want to fail Stormy Days, the mare who had shared her rations with her for years, and spent her free time making her happy. She wrote a letter every month to the weather station, but she left out the bad parts. It would only worry her family. She realized that she would need bits in order to live the life she wanted. Her talents were wasted here, she knew that, and she searched for a solution. It was then that she heard of the Wonderbolts, an esteemed group of pegasi, the finest fliers in all of Equestria. Surely they didn't have to worry about food and shelter. And so she started to train for the tryouts, continuing to work on her cold manipulations, learning how to shape hail and snow in the air and improve her flight capabilities. The great day finally came. She woke up at dawn and waited in front of the tryout area, eager to show the routine she had worked on for so long. When her number came up, she flew up, preparing the clouds and watching in delight as the judges and the other competitors shivered. She flew complex figures around the clouds, compressing the frozen water in the clouds and causing a hailstorm in her wake. However, this is where it all went wrong: she had never tried it on such a large scale before, and although confident, she lost control. The iceshards she had formed in the clouds started to rain down on the onlookers. She wanted to suspend them in the air with little swirls of wind, but it was just too much. The Wonderbolts interveened and pulled her out of the sky. Opal was furious, and hadn't even noticed the mayham she had almost caused. She barely listened to what they told her, something about "raw talent" and "lack of discipline". She stormed off and buried herself under her pillows at home. The Wonderbolts would never accept her, she was sure of that. She would find a way to make bits with her talent, no matter what it took. Days later, Opal found an anonymous letter under her door. 'Maybe this is my chance to make a big break' she thought. She asked around, and soon found her way to the up and starting new flight team, the Shadowbolts. They were holding tryouts near the outskirts of the Everfree Forest. Without skipping a beat, she quit her job and made her way to the tryouts. After watching a few of the other competitors, it was finally her turn. Her performance at the Wonderbolts tryout had earned her this chance, so Opal decided to eleborate on her previous routine. This time, things went far better. She deepend the already creepy atmosphere of Everfree Forest by lowering the temperature even further. Then she proceeded to swell the clouds with water, swirling through them, collecting hail and snow in her wake. She hadn't gotten to this point the last time, but now she would be able to show her masterpiece. Flying in circles, Opal created localized cyclones that suspended icecrystals in the air, forming small crystaline structures. She then proceeded by pushing the individual cyclones together, forming a huge, sharp-looking ice sculpture, still spinning in the air. She then reversed the cyclone, bringing it to a halt, with her beneath it. As the ice fell to the ground, she raced down to the ground in front of it, stopping right before the floor, right underneath the only hole in the structure. She flaoted a few inches in the air, as ice spike stuck into the grass around her. She was sure it looked impressive, and it was very controlled overall. She had guided the structure with flight wind, and although she had never tried it on this scale before, she didn't even flinch as shards of ice just barely missed her head. She was put on the newly formed team. It was dangerous work, but the pay was great, and she could finally afford all the materials she needed for her experiments. And best of all, she didn't have to worry about food or keeping a roof over her head any longer. She left that part out of her letters to Stormy Days, this would worry her for sure, and that was the last thing Opal wanted. But overall, life was good again. Addendum: Established Powders: Atmospheric Cooler: White, crystalline substance that is sprinkled into the air, and then in combination with wind lowers the surrounding temperature. Used a lot, because Opal is only really comfortable in the cold. Cloud Humidifier: light blue powder used to increase the moisture in clouds. Almost never used without the Atmospheric Cooler.
