  1. On Long Kong there hides a group, a family of sorts, taking in hoodlums, the desperate, and desiring a place to call home. Shady, underhoofed: sometimes it pays being naughty. Here are some highlights to the group as it is built and grows; The Divine Protectorate, aka the Triad of Long Kong. DIVINE PROTECTORATE Poke me if you've any questions or toss in an app if you wish to join the ranks. I'll be posting an OOC thread regarding it's members and open positions soon. Long Kong Lore Long Guo Lore RANKS Ranks are the simple state of the hierarchy within the family. There ranks instill a sense of power and place to a group who are otherwise outsiders and casteless amongst the Long. There will be limited positions for a rank, but no limitation on what sectors one can work in. Long Kong is divided into four sections, all being controlled by the Da Family within the Redoubt's District. All members know where they live and which Dragon Head they report to. Glossary: "Mountain" or "Dragon" Master (or 'Dragon Head') is the boss of the family group “Patron” an individual who provides fundings and laundering services, part or separate from the family. "Deputy Mountain Master" is just that to his or her boss. "Grass Slipper" is the Mountain Master's proxy, a son or daughter "Incense Master", who oversees inductions into the DP. "Vanguard" assists the Incense Master. "Red Pole" refers to a "military commander" overseeing defensive and offensive operations. "49" denotes the position of "soldier" or rank-and-file member. "White Paper Fan" provides financial and business advice "Straw Sandal" functions as a liaison between different units. "25" refers to an undercover law enforcement agent or spy from another gang, and has become popularly used as a slang for "snitch", i.e. informant "Blue Lanterns" are uninitiated members Long Kong Dragon Head: Da Jian-ya Patron: Yu Kinokawa (Cat Constellation), Open Slot, Open Slot Dragon Head: Port Town District Head: Open Downtown District Head: Open New Town District Head: Open Celestial District Head: Open Deputy: Open Slot, Open Slot, Open Slot, Open Slot Grass Slipper: Yin (Horse Constellation), Subjective Slots Vanguard: Open Slot, Open Slot, Open Slot, Open Slot Incense Master: Open Slot, Open Slot, Open Slot, Open Slot White Paper Fan: Open Slot Red Pole: Yángguāng (Ox Constellation), Corva Pardus (Ox Constellation), Open Slot, Open Slot Straw Sandal: Open Slot, Open Slot 49ers: Unlimited Slots Blue Lanterns: Unlimited Slots 25; The Snitch, Undercover Law Enforcement or Spy: ??? Four Pillars The Four Pillars of the Divine Protectorate, also known as Trines, control a section of family’s business to ensure the overall, unified goal of the family is met. Each pillar runs its own business front to generate a profit which is sent to the main house on a monthly basis for purchase of land deeds, equipment, and other amenities. Weekly stipends are often sent to the local Dragon Heads to provide extra allowances on luxuries the clans re not usually able to afford. Sometimes these stipends are called bribes by lower members because it keeps the Deputies in favor with the local Dragon Heads. Within the Trines there are Three Sects called Constellations. Each sect is named after a unique, skyward constellation to identify their roles in the family. It is often considered more honorable or preferred to be part of certain constellations as they make higher profits and can afford more free time while other constellations are more militaristic in their nature. Whatever the case there was a place for everypony. There is a thirteenth constellation known as the Cat that is not regarded as part of the House Trine. They are outsiders who have been given place in the family or members who have been cast out of the family, but have to be kept close and under an iron hoof due to their knowledge. They are always watched. It is not regarded as honorable to be cast out to the Cat constellation, as you are now an outsider and can never be part of the family, even if though marriage. First Trine; Business Sector Members of the First Trine handle much of the local and foreign business involving the paperwork regarding formal and informal contracts. These paper trails are meant to keep authorities off their tails and present their businesses as legitimate giving them official sounding names. They are also known for buying out local businesses who have been threatened or forced into financial ruin by local DP members. Rat: Businessponies by their nature those of the rat constellations are at the forefront of these deals. Accustomed to wearing the suit they have a keen eye in spotting risky deals and are remiss to risk the family's profit. Dragon: Hard workers those of the dragon constellation drive themselves to the bone to ensure everything is perfect when it comes to the loss ends. If ever one finds a loss end, it wasn't a dragon. Monkey: There is hardly a more relatable constellation than the monkey. They are the talkers. They convince the shopkeeps, foreigners and other individuals to keep business with the Da Family, under the assurance they have no ties with the Divine Protectorate. Second Trine; Security Sector Members of the Second Trine are the enforcers of the family's rules and laws. While not prone to any questionable behavior, it is not unheard of. They are the muscle to the brains, often being hired by the Business Sector for guard jobs or clearing riffraff in areas they are looking to raise property value on. Ox: This constellation works with what they have. Never needing more than a target they are independent and capable of getting the job done with as little instruction as possible. They are often more permanent fixtures in neighborhoods run by the DP. One can never know who is an Ox so it is always best to behave when crossing the train tracks. Snake: Leaders by their nature this constellation is well known for executing jobs using hired mooks either from within the ranks of the uninitiated, the Roosters, or outsiders who have done wrong by the family and seek penance. They are mobile so are never in one place long, often used by the Construction Sector as security officers with small teams. Rooster: In this constellation they are better suited in teams and strategic planning. Brain within brawn they excel in the lin kuei arts and other forms of espionage. Third Trine; Public Relations Sector Those in this Trine deal in the public image of the family businesses as well as covering up individual incidents that could lead to exposing their secrets to law enforcement. Tiger: More comfortable in large groups this constellation often hold public offices as secretaries or managers to important figures such as provincial governors or celebrities. The money paid to charities are often funneled into DP funds. Horse: The motivational speakers: this constellation are often the mouth pieces to the Construction and Business Sector, allowing the groups to wedge into business using their charm and precise expertise in the situation. They present these often unfair practices of forcing our business as financial and social opportunity for the pony being extorted. Dog: The counters, the measurers, and thinkers. This constellation is revered for “carrying an abacus in their saddlebags” as they are excellent problem solvers. They are kept by Dragon Heads to ensure profits aren't skimmed off of by Deputies and assist the Business Sector with larger trades and numbers. Fourth Trine; Construction Sector This Trine is responsible for all the construction business in the family. From shipping construction materials to purchasing land they are in charge of the general infrastructure that provides the DP with advantage over the local government. If their demands aren't met it sometimes means strikes from local teamsters causing a halt to businesses in Long Kong. Rabbit: The climbers, this constellation strive to buy as much possible always fighting to be seen as better than their peers. They are favored by the Dragon Heads for their insatiable drive to market themselves through their work. They are often in charge of listing, buying and selling property for the family to build on, tear down, or build up around. Sheep: A solitary constellation who prefer the dark office to field work. They are suited to the constant crunch required of the bureaucracy that is the nature of business. Office decorations they sometimes slip into privately owned businesses and funnel funds into DP projects without ever being discovered. Pig: Given roles as leaders to a union of teamsters or on the docks as ship captains this constellation benefits from DP funds by delivering material goods and workers into DP hooves. Functional members of society they have usually found their way into DP through financial strain. Fifth Trine; Outsiders This constellation is for outsiders, the dishonored and scattered gangs who wish to retain their freedom but remain disassociated with the DP. Cat: Loners, outsiders and the shamed. This constellation is a catch all for those who will never find ascension in the family but are either too valuable to turn away or have proven themselves valued allies. A place is a place and for casteless or outcasts this is often better than banishment. ------ Wow you're still here? Well if you are interested in joining just post below with the character you are interested in using. It does not have to be a Long, it does not have to be a pony, but they do have to be selfish and interested in doing the crime despite the time. This is for naughty ponies not good guys, unless yer a copper. Than we'll talk. ----- As a criminal organization the group needs a proper hang out where they go to pick up jobs and get news. The best place to do this is directly from the big boss himself: Da Jian-ya. The big boss is often seen hanging out at the bar, talking to clients. As a son to a decorated naval officer he has his place in the real world. The underworld is where his family has all the power. Below, when it is open, I shall have the link posted to the headquarters. It is a karaoke bar just at the edge of the busiest street in the Celestial District. At any given time this place can have ponies form off the streets coming in to find some fun in the arcades, a bit of friendly hangout in the karaoke rooms, or getting some locale cuisine to munch on at the bar. Some are looking to-- find opportunities or make them. THREAD TBA [OPEN]
  2. Yet another old, clutter-filled shop nestled off in one of the older, less glamorous parts of Downtown Long Kong. That's what ignorant passersbyers would think of Aunt Ci's Antiques, anyway. Locals wise in the ways of the city knew otherwise; they knew that the Auntie's antique shop was filled with a magic of its own. Anyone able to navigate their way around the store without shattering a Ming vase will find every sort of valuable beyond price... on a symbolic level, of course. Rent's gotta be paid somehow. At the heart of this commercial enterprise was the old mare herself, Aunt Ci. Currently the elder qilin had the store all to herself, so she spent that time wisely by sweeping the wood floor in between stacks of precariously stacked items. Seemingly without a care in the world, Ci hummed a tune of a local folk song that had been popular in her home town back when she was a young filly. Ah, the joys of the good ole days... With any luck, the floor would be spotless by the time the next customer trotted in. One of the frequent patrons would be nice; Aunt Ci's Antiques was often a place to go looking for the perfect birthday or wedding gifts. Even nicer was somebody with loads of money to spare, maybe a tourist. Ci had made a point of paying for advertising that catered to foreign visitors. Just as long as antiques were sold, the auntie would end her day with a happy smile on her face.....
  3. Roleplay Type: World of Equestria Name: Akemi Sex: Female Age: Very Old Species: Okami yokai Eye colour: Ice Blue Coat: Varies, though typically some shade of grey or white. Soft, pleasing swirls and shapes of the contrasting color to her base shade often appear and fade at random throughout her coat. Mane/Tail: n/a, not separate from her coat Physique: Roughly the size of a normal pony on regular occasions, Akemi's very form is somewhat amorphous. Long strands of fur flow like mist about her, and she can seemingly alter her size at will (within reasonable limits). Residence: Her ramen shop in Long Kong Occupation:Restaurateur Cutie Mark: None Unique Traits: As a yokai, Akemi is quite magical by the very nature of her being. She has many talents, the most common of which being her ability to alter her shape. This is most often shown by her statue form when presiding over her noodle shop, as she never directly appears to run the operation. The okami can also be invoked at any location simply by speaking her name, though an object in the likeness of a wolf must be present for her to appear. Due to her long life, the yokai has also developed a very keen sense of character, which she calls her "eye of truth." While hardly foolproof, Akemi can often discern whether or not somepony is lying if they are not extremely accomplished at masking their emotions. Finally, one of her most fantastical abilities is one of bending light about herself so as to appear effectively invisible when disguise isn't enough. This only works with an external light source, and becomes more fallible the weaker the light is. In darkness it doesn't work at all, as Akemi herself glows faintly with her inherent magic. History: As Akemi can count her own existence in various pony lifetimes, she doesn't often speak of days long past, preferring to stick with more recent occurrences. She moved to Long Kong from the areas surrounding Neighpon several years ago, having lost faith that the rise of technology would ever account for tradition and the old ways once it gained momentum. The wild and natural places were slowly disappearing, and she became disillusioned. In the spirit of joining what she did not see how to defeat, the restless yokai spent many months roaming the bustling streets of the city. Often this was done invisibly, other times as a statue or flickering lantern. Simply watching, learning. How could ponies, kirin and the like stand to be in such enclosed space? Were they not suffocating? It was a maddening conundrum to the okami. The air was heavy, the nights were loud. Just before the yokai lost hope, however, she met the mare that finally managed to change her stubborn perspective. Akemi happened to witness an elderly pony while sitting passively in her statue form one evening. The granny was headed into a noodle shop with what seemed to be her grandfilly, both lugging bags full to bursting with ingredients. It seemed that she owned the ramen house. Something about the warm joy on the elder pony's face intrigued the yokai, and she hid herself from sight to follow the pair inside. What she saw almost made her drop her invisibility spell in surprise, a rare thing for a creature usually so measured in temperament. It was one of the most traditional, beautiful interiors she had seen in a long time. Most definitely anywhere in Long Kong. Incense smouldered gently, chimes rang throughout, tasteful pots of bamboo were arranged about the restaurant. Everywhere Akemi looked, she was pleased. Enough so that she showed herself to the grandmare and her grandfilly the very next day. Naturally they were surprised that something as elusive as a yokai would introduce itself, but after a short time the two wizened souls were chatting away like old friends. When it became apparent that Akemi was despairing that the traditional ways would disappear, the elderly pony shook her head in disagreement. She responded that while progression and change was inevitable, the things we treasure only stop being relevant when there is no one left to care for them. So long as one person remains, so too does the treasure. The mare suggested that Akemi travel the world, see what it truly held beyond the fringes that the okami had inhabited for so long now. Perhaps she would find more clarity on such a journey. Sensing the wisdom in her friend's words, the yokai agreed to sojourn and return to tell the tale. She left Long Kong and traveled far beyond its borders. Over the years, rumors would spread of a great wolf that would appear, seemingly full of boundless curiosity about each new location. Akemi held true to her word, and even began gathering rare and powerful relics that she came across. Word had it that she even visited Longri-la, the storied refuge of the Serpent Council. Whether or not claims that she has seen the inside of the Dragon's Heart are true, she has yet to reveal to this day. After many summers, Akemi finally returned to the noodle house in Long Kong. She found her friend and her grandfilly still working, still honoring the ways. As promised, the okami regaled them with stories of her many travels. When the wolf finally finished speaking, she received a question in return. Had she found what she was looking for? The yokai thought long about her answer. Yes, she decided. There were still many ancient wonders in the world outside the tiny bubble to which she'd confined herself. Upon relaying this thought, her old companion smiled. It was time they switched places, was her response. Seeing Akemi's confusion, the wrinkly mare laughed and explained. She wasn't getting any younger, and she couldn't run the noodle shop like she used to. She wanted to see the wonders of the world one more time while she still had the chance. As a favor for the wisdom that she had bestowed upon the yokai many years prior, would she mind watching over the ramen house in the pony's stead? There was assurance that the grandfilly knew all the workings and could mostly run it by herself now, but it was always nice to have an elder hoof (or paw) guiding business. So it came to be that Akemi presides over a traditional ramen restaurant in Long Kong, keeping a keen eye on her only employee whilst helping unseen through magic and illusion. She still travels, often leaving the business in her capable ward's hooves during her absences. Rumors of the Sage Wolf still grow, and now those seeking her could always come inside for a warm meal and possible answers to their burning questions. Character Personality: Akemi is quite stoic, and often comes off as august and austere to those who do not know her well. Rarely is she caught off-guard to the point that she'll speak in anything other than a measured cadence, or even appear excited. That said, she is not emotionless, simply tempered by long years of wariness and exploration. She does become a tad more relaxed around those she knows well (though as her employee will tell you, this often doesn't do anything for her strictness). The most enduring of Akemi's monikers is the Sage Wolf, due to her ages-old propensity to dispense sound advice to those who ask it of her. While rarely immediately evident or understood by those who ask, time and again her suggestions have proven fruitful. Even in her current "settled" location within Long Kong, she tends to act as an information broker for her friends who seek counsel at her ramen shop. The yokai often favors company that appreciates the old ways, and individuals who seek knowledge to truly better themselves. Those who tell grand tales are very welcome in her home, especially those who are talented in the delivery of such stories. On the other paw, she does not lightly tolerate thugs and villains, which leaves her diametrically opposed to the Triad and various hooligans that associate with them. Rare is the occasion that a member of that collective has been allowed past her door, though it's not completely unheard of: she does believe in the concepts of yin, yang, and balance between the two. Though she doesn't often talk about herself, Akemi enjoys reading ancient scrolls and listening to the guqin being played. She keeps a rock garden in her spare time, and to the lucky few that are actually invited to her home (not the restaurant itself), they find themselves in a glade of pristine natural beauty. How such a thing exists about a ramen shop in Long Kong is quite the mystery. Character Summary: Akemi is the embodiment of wisdom and tradition accumulated over many, many years of learning. A very well-traveled being, the yokai finds pleasure in upholding the old ways and finding how to fit them into an ever-changing modern world. She houses a collection of very rare and sometimes powerful relics in her mystical glade that she maintains above her noodle shop in Long Kong, and often dispenses advice to those who come seeking it. Somewhat oddly for her kind, Akemi has over time seemingly forgone taking the guise of more common sentient creatures when out and about. She often appears simply as herself, a great wolf striding through the crowds. Her innate powers instill a mild protective glamour, in a way that only perceptive creatures or those actively looking for her will easily see her. Elsewise she is akin to a fleeting thought, drawing no more attention than any other might if one were to look at a crowd of complete strangers. To those she truly wishes to avoid, there is always her invisibility. The Sage Wolf still actively travels to expand her knowledge, that she might pass it on to others. And while she won't actively admit it, she does dote on her employee in mostly unseen ways despite said employee's thoughts otherwise. In the end, Akemi is a caring, old soul who wishes for nothing more than for those she cares about to be at harmony with the world. To that end, she sees herself as a conduit to times nearly forgotten, ever ready to be the window into the past that looks upon the future.
  4. Roleplay Type: WoE Name: Da Jian-yá Sex: Stallion Age: 42 Species: Qilin Eye colour: Magenta, surrounded by black sclera Coat: Ebony, Purple, Lavender Mane/Tail: Purple Physique: Thin, Fluffy Residence: New Town, Long Kong Occupation: Divine Protectorate Leader Cutie Mark: N/A Unique Traits: History: Their father, Mariqus Da, was a respected officer of the navy. He served for over thirty-three years and had become a decorated officer renowned for his tactical prowess. His family has lived in Long Kong for five generations, having emigrated to Long Guo’s mainland. He was forced into retirement when his great-grandfather called for his presence. It had been time for Da to take over his role as head of the family. Da’s father and grandfather had, sadly, met the afterlife and could not continue the tradition as they were meant to. Organized crime and a delinquent attitude toward law, Da took over the Divine Protectorate. It was the life Jian-yá would be born into. Jian-yá was a small foal, underweight and often having difficulty keeping weight on throughout his life. This made him frail and as an heir to the family he was always under the protection of trusted family members or his father. Father and son spent little time apart. When there were meetings held among other families or with rival groups Jian-yá was at Da’s side. The Marquis was diligent in his affection to his son, so he would not come to hate Da as the Marquis had come to hate his own father. Jian-yá did not have many friends. His spoiled nature left him to his own devices which often got him in trouble with Deputies. His life was a lavish one full of imported treats and rich silks that touched the fur like air. With a manor settled on the coast of Long Kong his family ran the organization from the heart of New Town. With businesses in Downtown, Long Kong employing over 200 New Town residents the Divine Protectorate are both a blessing and a curse for the city, a double-edged sword. Jian-yá frequented the arcades Downtown, often getting into mischief with foals of local Deputies and Poles. In time Da would retire and pass his legacy to Jian-yá when he was around thirty-years of age. Raised in a life of decadence the spoiled prince of crime would become its king. He would want more than he desired and turn the seething cesspool into a deeper trench of debauchery and chaos. Many say he suffered a curious worship of the long-like figure of the emissary of chaos, but it was mere conjecture that was often met with swift punishment or a visit from local Poles, even an increase in taxes. Jian-yá took over the family with years of training and tutoring to control every aspect of the organization behind him so he could ensure it held Long Kong in its grip for years to come. The Divine Protectorate controlled Long Kong through businesses, blackmailing positions in political offices and being surrounded by leisure all his life the young heir had spent his days training in the martial arts of the Qilin and athletics to train his bored body and keep his mind sharp. He was built to be an heir of the Protectorate and nothing else. Soft-spoken and only speaking when he find it necessary it was the result of his special talent that enforced this stoic nature presented by the thick brows of his sprouted horns. He was a late bloomer. The Da had worried his son would not meet the expectations of the families and he would be disallowed to continue the Da family line on the seat of the Dragon Head. It was during an altercation with a rival group seeking to take territory from Downtown that Jian-yá would find his way. The young qilin, at this time only at the age of fifteen and been sent to the front to negotiate in hopes the experience would bring meat to his skinny bones, at least that was how his uncle had put it to his father. Things turned violent and Jian-yá was cornered. He was not as physical adept as the Poles, but they were preoccupied with the rival group’s goons. In fear the young qilin, who had struggled much of his life with his dragonfire, attempted to exhale a blast. The beast’s gullet ensured that not only would the attackers be incapacitated but a good portion of the poorly constructed slum house would be damaged and collapse as well which easily sheltered the confrontation from authorities. It seemed his dragonfire produced a subsonic sound that, otherwise doused the heat of his flames, and created concussive damage. Character Personality: Jian-yá has a short temper when he doesn’t get exactly what he wants. He does not show it through brute force, but instead uses underhoofed tactics to humiliate, sabotage and demean his enemies. Notoriously snide to both employees and prospective customers alike, the qilin is blunt with his responses and indirectly passive-aggressive with his remarks towards the perceived incompetence of others. Cheap: they refuse to pay more than they have to the qilin will often resort to stealing, undercutting worker pay and taking shortcuts in construction costs. The boss is temperamental, smug and is not known to take ‘no’ as answers. Indulgent, hedonistic, and spend only for themselves. The selfishness is a large part of the reckless deals he makes, never considering later costs and only current profit. Character Summary: Raised to be the heir of the Divine Protectorate the young qilin spent his life studying to take if over from his father. Spoiled to the core and a cold, nihilistic snark the qilin uses sonic abilities to deter attackers and will do anything he can to secure more money, more property, and more goods than he would need in the next life. An avid hater of the Path of Harmony the qilin is known to incite riots and dissent among those he can influence and the authorities of Long Guo. Named Jian-yá, for his black whiskers which are black as night, he is known to sign his name as Σ among his paperwork. No one knows what the symbol means, but there are rumors to the symbol having deeper connections to Tartarus.
  5. Music wafted through the streets and alleys of Downtown Long Kong, the raucous blaring of club speakers and the excited chatter of patrons carrying even into the quieter portions of town. As the distance from the riverfront increased, the architecture morphed from the sleek, modern design of Long skyscrapers and entertainment venues into more traditional stylings of Long Kong suburbia. The last rumble of distant thunder gently shook windows and sent ripples through the water pooling in the cobbles. In spite of the passing of the storm, a humid haze lingered at street level, its sticky miasma clinging to the coats of goers-about like hitchhiker seeds. Bucephalus shook the last of the rain out of his mane. Or rather, the mane he had assumed. This form was of a well-built pegasus stallion, his coat the white of freshly cleaned bone with mane and fetlocks the hue of rusted iron. His heavy footfalls reflected martial discipline, but the measured rhythm of his steps reflected high-born pedigree. Thankfully, he had managed to shelter in the metro station before the worst of the storm had struck. Water beaded off his coat and clung to the strands of his mane, but he was otherwise none the worse for wear. But now another problem presented itself. A low growl shook his stomach and put a cringe to his face. It was a long walk to get to the main street Downtown. His dwindling bits meant an unnecessary train ride was out of the question. As if granted by providence, a ramen shop was just around the next block. Bucephalus took one whiff of the delicious scent of soba and broth and began salivating. Love and friendship fed changeling magical reserves, but food was what filled a hungry belly. Furthermore, staying to do dishes or assist with cooking meant a few more bits to pay for lodging for the night and food the next day. With nothing left to lose, Bucephalus hoofed open the door and stepped inside, taking a seat upon one of the cushions by the low counter.
  6. Roleplay Type: World of Equestria Name: Dān Xìnyǎng (单 信仰) Sex: Stallion Age: Adult Species: Longma Eye colour: Russet red Coat: Dull Purplish blue-black (#191970) with scales the color of obsidian. He often polishes his snout and brow scales to give them the same sheen as that stone, but they're ordinarily a rough matte. Mane/Tail: A long single braid of Chinese Violet (#856088) for mane, and another for his tail. He keeps both tied with a black ribbon. His horns are a cinnabar shade (#E34234) and curve up then swoop forward sharply, like a puku. He keeps them razor sharp. Physique: Muscular, in the way of a stallion who eats well and does a lot of heavy work. However when he's not working he tends to hunch down so as to look less intimidating. This isn't helped by the scars on his scales. Residence: Third floor of a little curio shop on Porcelain Street, Trades District, Long Kong. His landmare and her son run the shop together, and he helps out from time to time, but he's there to pay for the shop's…insurance. Occupation: Officially he's a clerk at a tea shop. However since that lounge is owned by the Triad, easy money is on him being an enforcer and bouncer. His codename is Mr. Zhentou, Mr. Pillow. Cutie Mark: A river that makes three loops in an inverse triangle before paradoxically flowing into itself. Unique Traits: a pair of nez pince spectacles is nearly always on his nose when he's not doing his Other job, though the lenses are just for show. He also has several small scars on the scales of his nose and forehead, signs of a rough childhood by the look of them. He also nearly always has a book to hoof or carried in a satchel or saddle bag. History: Dan Xingyang's father was a Triad goon. His grandfather was a Triad thug. His great grandfather was a Triad tough. He came from a long line of low level strong-arms writing for the Triad, so it was a matter of course that Xin follow that same lonesome path. However his mother, Ancestors keep her, had insisted that he be educated before taking up the family business of getting himself killed for someone else before his foal was out of diapers. And so he had been. He took to it like a duck to water, as did his younger brother and both of his sisters. Unlike them he actually did end up joining the Triad, his cutie mark practically guaranteed he would, but he was smart enough that his bosses didn't just throw him at cops or scags. No, his combination of brains and muscles kept him closer to specific interests as combination bodyguard and enforcer, keeping an eye out for trouble from without or within. Eventually he'd been and long enough to request assignments, and was given a rather cushy job watching some dream peddler sell his Breath. It was easy, he made sure the qillin wasn't disturbed while they worked, and that they didn't use their magic on the bookkeepers or Bosses, and that guards were discouraged or bribed off. Character Personality: Xingyang is surprisingly erudite for a two bit goon. He dislikes violence, seeing it as a necessary evil at best, inefficient and too likely to draw attention. Violence begets oppression, oppression begets resentment, resentment begets violence. One flows into the other like an endless river. Much simpler to convince them you're doing them a favor, but Xing wasn't in charge of things, generally, and didn't really want to be. All that resentment and violence tended to percolate to the top of the pyramid, in his experience. As long as he wasn't on the bottom rung, he was where he wanted to be. Character Summary: One of nature's corporals, Dan Xingyang is thoughtful, erudite, and poetic, and he will kick your flank up between your ears if you give him cause to. It's nothing personal, just business.
