  5. Free RP Rules The Free Roleplay sections of Canterlot.com, by design, have little in the way of set rules. That said, this does not mean these sections have no rules whatsoever. If you intend to partake in the Free Roleplay sections, keep the following in mind: All content must still follow Site Rules and Expectations for Conduct. Make sure you are familiar with the rules listed here before posting anywhere on the forum. Pornographic roleplay of any type is prohibited in all sections of the forum. Sexual roleplay or solicitation of sexual roleplay from minors in forum or private message will be dealt with very harshly. Roleplayers should strive to respect one another. Listen to your roleplay partners and try to treat others fairly. It's more fun for everyone that way. Obey the rule of consent. Players are not required to acknowledge actions that have been forced upon their characters without prior agreement. Players who godmod or otherwise compromise the RP game for others will be reprimanded. If the staff need to interject in a roleplay for any reason, please be understanding and respectful. (Although if you read and follow the rules, this should not happen.)
  6. World of Equestria RP Rules The following is a list of rules that apply to the World of Equestria Roleplay Environment. Please take the time to read and understand them before participating in the RP as they will be enforced. RP Applications The World of Equestria RP allows for two varieties of character to be applied for: cast characters--the familiar characters seen within My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic--and original characters--new characters designed entirely by the applying user. For all characters, a character application must be submitted in the form specified Playable Species List. Characters need to be from one of the listed playable species. Original character applications need to be posted as new topics in the Character Applications section. To keep the number of pending applications to a minimum, only one application titled as READY and one titled as WIP (Work In Progress) are allowed at one time. Your Roleplay character will be assessed by an RP Helper, who may request changes be made in regards to character design. Once the RP Helper is satisfied, a senior RP Helper will review the app and, if satisfied, give it an approval stamp. A Senior RP Helper may also ask for edits to an application. No previous relationships with any cast characters will be allowed within original character applications for any reason. Relationships can be worked out and established in Roleplay later, but it is not to be in any applications. You will be asked to change or remove this. Roleplay Etiquette Sexual roleplay, intense violence and gore are not allowed within the World of Equestria roleplay. Romance and relationships are okay, as is mild cartoon violence; just remember that adult content is prohibited on the site Roleplayers in the World of Equestria must always be sure to respect the boundaries of the other players in any given roleplay thread. Users should never take control of other players' characters without permission, and should try not to have their characters take complete control of the events in a thread. Please remember that roleplaying is a collaborative process. Respect the posting rules set by the player who has started the roleplay thread. If there is a turn order, wait your turn. Do not double post in roleplay threads or post OOC (Out Of Character) posts. Never intrude in roleplays marked as private, closed, or Invite-only without contacting the roleplayers involved in the thread first. If you are unsure if a thread is closed, consider contacting the topic starter first. Roleplayers should strive to be courteous and try and interact with as many users who post in a roleplay thread you are involved in as possible. No one likes to be ignored. Roleplay posts in the World of Equestria section should ideally be at least a full paragraph in length. (This means a minimum of five complete original sentences.) This is to ensure quality and so that the current roleplay has enough to build on. If the staff need to interject in an RP for any reason, please be understanding and respectful. (Although if you read and follow the rules, this should not happen.)
  7. Canterlot Gallery Rules The Canterlot Gallery is a place where members can share original MLP related artwork that they themselves have created and follow the criteria below. General Rules and Regulations Please try and put as much effort into your work as possible, using plain paper rather than ruled/lined will get more attention and look far better and less tacky. Submissions must be suitable for ALL audiences and must not exceed casual displays of affection or non graphic action scenes. Characters must conform to the creator's original version as possible. Art must contain characters or themes related to My Little Pony (Any Generation). Anthropomorphization and "Humanized Ponies" are acceptable as long as they conform to the guidelines. Photographs of physical items (custom MLP etc) must be your own work and stated as such in the description. Comments must follow the Board Rules. Examples of Prohibited Items Gore, extreme violence, and criminal acts Sex, sexual situations, or innuendo Illegal drugs, drug references, and/or paraphernalia Screenshots and photographs, with the exception of photos of crafted works such as plushies. Non-original artwork such as that built from traces or bases. Plagiarized artwork in whole or in part Image macros (eg: memes, reaction faces, etc.) Treating the Gallery as a "Photobucket" style host. Canterlot is not to be used to link images off-site or for banners/signature images etc. 'Pony Maker' or other generated images. Costumes / cosplay, photographs that do not feature ORIGINAL MLP artwork, logos, etc. NOTE: Art created by others of your own original character may be posted where full credit is given to the original artist. Submissions made containing other people's work that do not follow the conditions above will be considered a violation of the Terms of Service and will be removed without warning. Canterlot Staff reserves the right to remove any material they determine as unacceptable or inappropriate.
  8. Site Blogs Canterlot.com provides easy-to-use web blogging software for users to write about anything they wish to blog about. However, we ask that you follow a few guidelines to keep our blogs clean and civil: Canterlot user blogs are subject to the same rules as the rest of the board. You can find a full list of forum rules HERE. Post in English. The primary language of Canterlot.com is English. Please post your blogs in English. Blogs that do not adhere to this rule will be removed. Do not curse excessively. Occasional mild slips will not be actioned, but spamminess or excessive vulgarity (f-bombs, slurs, etc.) will result in removal or censorship. No smut. Pornographic material of any sort will be deleted without warning. This is not a platform for you to attack others. Malicious or mean-spirited posts will be interpreted as bullying and harrassment and dealt with as such. You are welcome to address more serious issues (so long as it is tagged appropriately), but do not take this as license to be toxic. Do not vandalize other people's blogs. Ranting, attacking, or spamming in the comments sections of other people's blogs will be interpreted as bullying and harrassment and dealt with as such. Be respectful! There are many users on Canterlot with the mind for blogging and writing and just as many opinions. It is inevitable that some of these opinions will be at odds with one another. Please keep discussions civil and do not resort to personal attacks because of disagreements in opinion. Opinions are not a game and there is no winner or loser. If you cannot say anything without attacking another person, don't say it! Think about what you are writing before you post it. You have many steps to go through before you hit the "post" button. Think about what you have written before you post it. Is it defamatory, derogatory, or malicious in any way? Don't post. Is it thoughtful, readable, insightful, and discussion-provoking while remaining respectful? Go ahead and post! Happy blogging, everypony!
  9. Internet Safety Canterlot.com Guidelines for Internet Safety All sorts of people use Canterlot.com to RP, chat and make friends. But it's important that our younger users (under 18 years old) stay safe when using our website. These are general guidelines that are to be followed on Canterlot.com's site and can be used for other online communities. Keep safe by being careful not to give our personal information - such as your name, email address, phone number, home address, photos or school name - to people you are chatting with online. Meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can be dangerous. Only do so with your parents' or guardians' permission and supervision. Accepting emails, IM messages or opening files, pictures or texts from people you don't know or trust can lead to problems - the may contain viruses or nasty messages! Information you find on the internet may not be true, or someone online may be lying about who they are. Tell your parent, carer or a trusted adult if someone makes you feel uncomfortable or worried, or if you or someone you know is being bullied online. Guidelines based on Childnet International who have lots more information and advice. NOTE: You can report any abuse on Canterlot.com by clicking 'report' found in all posts and private messages. The Canterlot Staff does not tolerate bullying or harrassment under any circumstances. Suggestions for Conventions and Meetups With the recent explosion of pony conventions and meetups, it is more important than ever that you remain safe both online and offline. Some tips to help out new con-goers and meetup attendees: Be honest with your parents or guardians. Tell them where you want to go and who you want meet. Take a friend so you can look out for each other. It would be boring on your own, anyway! Follow the 621 rule at conventions - Per day you need a minimum of: 6 hours of sleep, 2 meals, 1 shower. Make sure you're always contactable by your friends and family. Send a quick SMS now and then and tell them how great the convention is and what they're missing. It will also let them know that you're all right. Do not accept drinks or food from strangers or people you don't know very well. Do not leave your drink or food unattended. Most of all, please remember that your common sense and awareness is an important factor to make sure you're safe and have a good time with your friends!
  10. Images, Avatars, Cutie Marks, and Signature Rules Avatars Maximum size 150x200px and 200KB in file size; GIF, JPG, and PNG are accepted formats. Avatars must follow Site Expectations of Conduct Signatures A maximum of 200 Characters and three lines; images may be up to 600px wide and 100px tall and can be in GIF, JPG, or PNG formats. Please keep your signatures smaller than average posts. Keep it small and reasonable! DO NOT post audio/video sources in your signature. Do not combine images to make a larger image. 11. Welcome to Canterlot! We’re so happy to have you here. Actually, we’re probably even worse than Pinkie Pie at containing our excitement about the fact that you’re here! And if you’re looking at this thread, you probably want to introduce yourself, but don’t really know how to go about doing so. That’s okay! Everyone’s a little nervous when they first meet new people. I’m a little nervous typing this! But I’m typing this to help you get a good idea of how to introduce yourself to all these wonderful new people you’ll meet here on Canterlot.com. Before I begin, though, there’s probably one thing I should make sure you know. You need three posts in order to unlock a lot of the things you can do on this site. Without those three posts, you can’t edit your posts or add pictures to the gallery. Not being able to edit your posts can make applying for a character really, really difficult. We suggest that you post your introduction and say hello to a few other new members in order to get your three required posts quickly and easily. Now, there are a few hard and fast rules to posting an introduction. Please don’t share any personal information. This includes your full legal name, your age, where you live, and anything else that somebody could use to find you. Please don’t roleplay in your introduction post. While we’re really excited to meet your characters, right now we’re more excited to meet you! Tell us about yourself, so we can get to know you better. Don’t advertise anything. Whether it’s a project or another website, we don’t want you to join our site just to advertise things. Accidents happen. If you accidentally double post or you messed something up in your introduction and can’t edit it yet, use the REPORT button (it should be on the lower right corner of your post) to let staff know, and we’ll take care of it as soon as we can! And now we get to the really important part… your introduction! About Myself This is easily the most important part of your introduction. Tell us what you do, what you like, and who are! We’ve got all sorts here, so you’re bound to find someone with common interests on Canterlot! How I found Canterlot.com We on staff are always really interested to find out how everyone found Canterlot. Let us know how you stumbled across our site! How I became a fan of MLP:FiM It can be really interesting to read how different people fell in love with My Little Pony! Tell us your story! We have all the time in the world. My favorite main cast/pony This is pretty self-explanatory. Which pony is your favorite? I know, the list of options is a little slim, but we’re working on changing this question to make the answers a little less restricted. And here’s the fun part. The rest of your post can be whatever you want it to be! It can be more about yourself, or maybe some questions for us! Whatever you want to tell us that could help start a conversation is great. So now that you have an idea of how to introduce yourself, go ahead! We’d love to get to know you! And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask myself or another staff member. We’re here to help, after all. Ready to introduce yourself? Just head on over to Introductions Board and post now!

  13. Hullo, my name's Hallie. I like bacon, and pie. I'm crazy, but prefer the term random myself, like Pinkie Pie. That's all you need to know. ~Tom is best diamond!
  14. Oh, hello! So, you’ve decided to join the World of Equestria role play? That’s wonderful! But, um, before you get started, you might want to read Rarity's Simply Fabulous Application Form. I mean, if that’s OK with you… Now, once you know what you have to do to apply, the first thing you have to do is pick what species you want your character to be! So I’ve put together a list of all the cute, and, um, not-so-cute creatures you could be! Now, these rules only apply to the World of Equestria RP. But in Free-for-All, you can play all kinds of fantastic creatures! For now, let’s start with ponies. Pony Types: Earth Ponies Unicorns Pegasus Crystal Ponies Areion (Bat Ponies) Unfortunately, there are only four Alicorns allowed in the World of Equestria, the four Princesses! So, I’m sorry, but your original character can not be an Alicorn, or any kind of winged unicorn, if you want to play in the Mane RP I mean. But ponies aren’t the only creatures you can play! Other Playable Species: Buffalo Changelings (Drones only, with the exception of Queen Chrysalis) Diamond Dogs Donkeys and Mules Dragons (only babies and teenagers) Domestic Farm Animals (Cows, Goats, Sheep) Griffins Hippogriffs (and their Seapony forms) Horses Kirin Minotaurs (They’re not monsters!) Sea Serpents (only babies and teenagers) Sirens Yaks Zebras You can even play as some species that don't appear on our show! A few of those are shown here. We are also open to other creatures that could fit into the RP world! If you want to apply for something like a camel or a giraffe, feel free! The RP Helpers will take a look, and see how well your character might fit in. Deer (all species, including caribou) Giraffes Hippocamps (Dolphin-type Sea ponies) Kelpies (Shark-like Sea Ponies) Chamroshes (Winged Wolves) Perytons (Winged Deer) Serpent Dragons (Eastern-styled Dragons) Qilin (Part-pony, part-deer, and part-serpent dragon) Longma (Qilin relative w/ wings) Yokai (Mysterious spirit creatures) Now, I want to talk about my favorite subject: Animals! Your World of Equestria character can have a pet or ‘companion animal’ in the application. Animals can’t speak… well, I mean most ponies can’t understand them like I can, but they can be quite intelligent! It does mean, though, that most animals can’t be playable characters. You can, however, create a pet with their own personality, and include it in your character’s application! Angel Bunny joins me in a lot of role plays! But, just one thing: You really shouldn't have a large predator as a pet. So no wolves, or tigers, or any dangerous animals like that. Now, um, this next list has creatures that you are not allowed to apply for, and can’t be companions. I’m really sorry about that, but we have to set rules to keep the role play a nice place, and many of these are not very nice creatures… Not Playable: Alicorns (except for the four Princesses) Ahuitzotl Cerberus Cockatrice Huge, gigantic, terrifying, enormous, teeth gnashing, sharp scale having, horn wearing, smoke snoring, could-totally-eat-a-pony-in-one-bite, totally all-grown-up Dragons. Draconequus (with the exception of Discord) Hydras Manticores Parasprites Phoenixes Quarray eels Adult Sea Serpents (with the exception of Steven Magnet) Timberwolves Ursa Majors or Ursa Minors Windigos No monsters No Humans, Humanoids, Demons/Spirits, Aliens, Shape Shifters, Robots, etc. Now, if you have any questions about what kinds of characters you can play in the World of Equestria RP, or are just confused about the rules, you can contact one of the RP Helpers! They are all very nice ponies who will help you with your application! And, um, have fun in the role play!
  15. If you post other people's art with no way to prove you have full rights to as your own, (Artists will normally credit the person who commissioned them, for example)... [colour=#a52a2a]You will be publicly branded a THIEF and most likely banned.[/colour] Copying other people's artwork (tracing and/or re-colouring etc) is also NOT your own original work and not welcome in the gallery. Take inspiration from other sources. Use other people's work to help you learn how to draw. But copying or just tracing a "vector" from stills from the show is lame as heck and you're not learning ANYTHING. (for a start you're looking foolish by calling it a 'vector' when you're submitting a rasterised .jpg) I know we can't all practice drawing from still-life etc, but go find a photograph. Just don't trace it! You'll learn nothing and won't develop any skill. Any primate can trace and colour inside some lines. Give actual art a try! After a few months of sketching and drawing, you might find a topic or style that really fits you, rather than a copy/paste imitating still-frames from the show style. Would you like us to set up a public gallery where you can submit other (non-mlp) art work?
  16. Why hello there, darling! Eager to join our little World of Equestria game? Looking to let all that wonderful creative energy flow free? Well, before you do get started, you're going to have to submit a Canterlot.com character application. A gorgeous dress starts with a fabulous design and much the same can be said for a fantastic character! Your character's application is that design; it's there to tell us all exactly who your character is and how we can expect him or her to behave in the RP. For that reason, it is imperative that you fill it out and fill it out right! Luckily I'm here to tell you just how to make your application shine like the most beautiful of diamonds! So listen up and let Miss Rarity tell you exactly how this is done! The application must include all of the following, so listen closely. Absolutely no skipping anything, now! How to title your application: Now, before we dive in and get started on what goes in the application, I must first explain how we like for applications to be titled. Every character application starts with the title. It's the first thing ponies see--it's the thing that catches the RP Team's attention. So, needless to say it's important that one fills it out just right! Right? But how do we do that? Well, a title needs to start off with a topic prefix for the character's species; you should find a drop down box when you go to post your application that contains all of the options! This part is as simple as just picking one of the choices from the list. When you do, it'll appear in the title for you; you don't have to write anything! You do need to write in your character's name, however, followed by a label for the application's status in the title box. Now this last thing is particularly important, so do listen up, dear. For the status label, you have two options: [Ready] and [WIP]. [Ready] is for applications that are ready to be receive feedback from the RP Team. It does not mean that you are absolutely sure your application is the pinnacle of perfection, and in fact you could still be actively working on it; it just tells us all that you are ready to move forward with the process. Applications with this tag should soon be noticed and reviewed by one of the RP Helpers. [WIP] on the other hand, is for applications that you are still actively working on. These are incomplete applications that are not ready for RP Helper eyes just yet. If you are looking for feedback on an application DO NOT use this label, as it tells the team specifically that you're not ready for them yet (though RP Helpers may still look at and comment on [WIP] applications at their own discretion from time to time). Name: Let's on to the actual application content. To start with, before anything else, your character is going to need a name! Everypony has one! Now, we ponies, you'll find, have certain naming conventions. Our names aren't quite like the names of you humans. A good pony name is comprised of one or two words, usually having to do with our talents or personality. I happen to be a pony of truly uncommon beauty, talent and charm who is also adept at finding rare gemstones, for instance, so of all the possible names, Rarity certainly is the most fitting! Essentially, just remember to stay away from human names and you'll most likely be fine. Oh, and do also remember that we ponies don't typically have set surnames--Applejack and that oversized family of hers don't all have names ending in Apple after all! Of course, if your character is not a pony, you're playing by a different set of rules here! For your dragons, griffons and such, we're more open to all kinds of naming possibilities within reason. Gender: Now this one is simple, dear. What gender is your pony? You should indicate Male, Female, or whatever it is the character identifies as. Be a darling, darling! Age: For a pony's age, we ask that you DO NOT give a specific number (we do not know the number of years ponies live, or at what rate they age). Instead, please use one of the following labels: Foal - for ponies who are young children, regardless of gender Colt - for male ponies who are in their teenage years Filly - for female ponies who are in their teenage years Stallion - for adult male ponies Mare - for adult female ponies. You are welcome to add modifiers like "older" or "young" to give us a a more specific idea of just how old the character is, just don't give us any numbers for age (and that goes for ANYWHERE in the application)! For non-pony characters, you should use equivalent non-pony related terms for age. Child, Teen and Adult will usually be just fine, but if you want to use terms more specific to the character's species, that should be fine as well. Species: Another straight forward field here! What species is your character, dear? A pegasus? An earth pony? A lovely, majestic unicorn like myself? Or perhaps you are looking to create something a little more exotic? Griffons, zebras, cute little baby dragons like Spike? There truly are a lot of options! If you wish to avoid undue trouble, please do make sure you look at the Playable Species List to make sure your species is something that's allowed first though! Eye colour: What colour are your character's eyes? Any solid colour is fine, but we ask that you stay away from any really unusual eye effects. Keep it simple and you should have no problems here, darling! Character Colour: Describe for us your character's colours. If your character is a pony, give us the coat colour. A zebra? Tell us about those stripes! A dragon? The scales! Mane/Tail/Other: Tell us about the character's mane and tail! You need to indicate the colour (or colours) as well as a general idea of how the mane and tail are styled. Feel free to include any hats or mane accessories here as well, if you like--as well as any facial hair for all your distinguished stallions! Be as descriptive as you can! Physique: For this, just tell us a little about your character's shape. How big or small is your character? Is he or she muscular? Thin? Stocky? Glamorous? You can also use this space to tell us about any distinguishing marks, scars or physical abnormalities your character might have on his or her body. Use your creativity, but make sure you keep everything within reason and don't go overboard! Your character should look like he or she fits in the world where he or she will exist. Residence: Simple! Just tell us where your character currently lives. This is important, as it tells other players what locations they can expect to see you play your character in the RP. If you need help, take a look at our list of World of Equestria Locations for ideas! Occupation: What is your character's job? Please do keep this reasonable for the world in which the character will exist. If your character d0es not have an occupation, feel free to use this space to tell us how they spent their free time. Cutie Mark: In this section, we ask that you describe your character's cutie mark. Give us details, darling! Pictures help, but are not required. Do make sure the cutie mark is both appropriate and accurately describes your character. Stay away from symbols that are trademarked or already have a clear and explicit association with something else, such as flag symbols; the cutie mark should be something entirely personal having to do specifically with your character or his or her talents after all. You also need to tell us how your pony got his or her cutie mark. Trust me, the moment in which somepony receives their cutie mark is an important one for absolutely everypony! Just describe in however much detail as you please the events surrounding this pivotal moment in your pony's life. Make sure the story is appropriate and logical. We should be able to easily understand how these particular events lead to this particular mark appearing. It is simply not acceptable for you to not know or not be sure what the cutie mark means in relation to the character. All ponies get cutie marks, and they get them when they are still young. An adult mare or stallion will always have her or his cutie mark, no exceptions! However, for all of your fillies, colts and foals, bare flanks are definitely still a possibility. If this is the case, it is enough to simply indicate as much. Oh, and if your character is not a pony or pony related species, it's fine to simply answer "not applicable" here. Unique Traits: Tell us about the little things special to your pony. If he or she has any special abilities, like my gem finding and fashion magics or my friend Pinkie's Pinkie Sense, include them here. Physical skills and skill with weapons or tools would also go here. As with everywhere else, we encourage creativity, but do make sure that the abilities make sense for the world to which your character will belong. The abilities should also not be of the sort that stress power over character; remember that this is a social game and the fun will come in cooperating with others. No one is going to want to engage with a character who feels unfairly overpowered. I would also advise that you steer clear of abilities which directly mimic those of me or my friends and acquaintances. Unique is the key word here. Rainbow might dazzle us all with her Sonic Rainboom, but that doesn't mean your character should be able to perform their own version of a Rainboom too. It's never fashionable to be a copycat. History: Describe your character's history. Tell us all about his or her life. Be as creative and descriptive as you like, darling. A good history is important, but we're not asking for every detail of your character's life story. As a general guideline, these are some of the basic questions you might consider answering about your pony in this section: Where was your character born? How was life for him or her growing up? Who are his or her parents and how do they get along with your character? Is there any other family we should know about? What is his or her life like now? How did your character get to where he or she is? Where does he or she hope to go from here? Character Personality: This one is probably the single most critical field when it comes to RP: how your character will behave. Again, you should be as inventive and as thorough as you are able. List their hobbies, likes, dislikes and any other little quirks your character might have. Be sure to tell us how your character will act and interact with others. Good characters will be unique, well-rounded and well thought out personalities. Remember that no one is perfect; your character should have flaws and faults, fears and worries! Do note that, particularly introverted characters will be a lot harder to utilize in RP. As I said previously, the game will rely on you engaging with and interacting with others--so characters who refuse to do this likely won't be as much for you or anyone else. Character Summary: Finally, give us a brief summary of your character overall. This should just be a condensed version of who the character is overall. Be sure to include all the most important details. This section should give someone reading it the general idea of who your character is in the broader sense, even if they haven't read any of the rest of the application. That about covers what should be included in the application, but there are a few more things that you absolutely need to know before you get started, dear! Applications should be written in plain, black, left-aligned text, with only the labels for the various fields in bold. Believe me, I understand the need to make everything gorgeous, but the RP team is looking for information that is easy to read, not pretty to look at. We prefer you write applications in third person. It's just easier to extract the needed information that way! Pictures of the character are very much welcomed, but are certainly not required for an application to be approved. If you're still unsure about anything after all that I've told you, feel free to direct any questions you may have to any of the talented and dedicated Canterlot.com RP Helpers! Have fun! To get started, just copy the application form below and paste it onto a new thread for your application: Character Application: Roleplay Type: Name: Gender: Age: Species: Eye colour: Coat: Mane/Tail: Physique: Residence: Occupation: Cutie Mark: Unique Traits: History: Character Personality: Character Summary: Addendum on Roleplaying as Antagonists and the Value of Communication: Since the World of Equestria roleplay now allows for play in worlds where unsavory characters may more commonly exist, there are a few other things we ask you to keep in mind, particularly in the case that the character your making is of a more wicked nature. If creating a thread where conflict is likely to arise, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you set up an out of a character discussion thread and link it in the original post. This is actually a good thing to have for any RP thread, but for threads involving villains and the like, just having a space to communicate with everyone else involved will spare you all so much confusion and frustration. "Power gaming", "God-Moding" and the like--that is roleplaying which is unfair, where one player dominates a thread and refuses to let his or her character be effected by events in the thread, be shown in a negative light or simply just doesn't play along with others. If such behavior is noticed, players are advised to report it to the staff using the Report button located at the bottom right of every post on the forum. Reported posts will be reviewed and if we agree that the behavior is inappropriate, the posts will be removed. Guilty roleplayers will not receive punishment beyond this, though they might receive a verbal warning from the mod staff upon repeated infractions. Remember that your roleplaying partners, by rule, must have your consent to do ANYTHING in the RP. If someone does something to your character which you do not like, you do not have to accept that it has happened. Roleplay needs to be fun for everyone involved, and for that proper communication is vital. If you're ever in a situation where you're unsure if doing something to someone else's character is okay or not, ASK THEM FIRST! Courtesy goes along way, darling. And finally, do be aware that, if a thread becomes an ongoing problem--that is, if frequent reports and complaints are received or if wildly inappropriate behavior is noticed--and no other recourse can be found, such a thread may be locked without notice by the Canterlot staff. The goal here is for our players to have fun; newer players should be encouraged to develop roleplay skill without ridicule or threat of punishment for "doing it wrong." Skilled players should do everything in their power to help support the newer ones. Remember that everyone is new once and deserves the chance to improve--something only done through actively playing with other skilled players. I do hope our players will keep this in mind as we continue to develop this -- and other roleplay sections -- at Canterlot!

  18. !I just threw up this new thing called Canterlot.com's Roleplay For Newbies Guide. I've tried to answer all the questions thoroughly while being tl;dr, but I feel like there are more questions that I'm missing. So, from all of you, I'd like suggestions on questions, and even answers to those questions! You may get credit in the post for being especially helpful. Also, if there's anything that you think should be expanded on in the questions I answered, you can give some critique.
  19. *Important Edit by Manestream* I have not made any final decisions on the RP availability of The Changeling Queen, or changelings in general. These are working concepts, but do not consider these final decisions, as they are still works in progress until I have a chance to sit down with my RP experts to discuss what is possible, and how best to incorporate as much from the show as possible. *Manestream out* --------------------------------------------- Hi, folks! Wow, has it been two whole seasons already? And no signs of stopping that I can tell as of yet! I can't wait to see what season three has in store for us. But while we're waiting, I'd like to recap over some of the things that have been brought to our table here at Canterlot and hopefully address them in a fashion that folks will easily understand and will come to accept as a matter of course. There's a few topics I'll tackle each in turn. They'll be about new cast characters introduced into season two, along with new technologies and concepts, and new abilities. Each of these topics I'll try to go into detail and hopefully you can reference them specifically for clarification on those particular items. I'd like to consider this as going forward as well to help keep things fair and comfortable, as well as sensible going forward into season three and beyond as well as what we have seen in season two. And of course, I needn't mention that this will pertain most strongly to Mane Roleplay. New Cast Characters Firstly, New Cast Characters. We've seen plenty of new cast characters, and even some names for characters that we hadn't quite had before, like official names for Mr and Mrs Cake (Or at least, Mrs. Cake...she was specifically called 'Cup Cake' by her husband in Mmmystery on the Ponyville Express! Which means her husband is likely called Carrot Cake by canon as well if he hasn't been named so by Hasbro), Cadence and Shining Armor, Hayseed Turnip Truck, Fancy Pants, Fleetfoot, Fleur De Lis, Chrysalis, Flim and Flam, just to name a few. There's been such a rush on Cast Characters both old and new, that we've had a hard time keeping up! So here's how we're going to consider them from this point on, and in to the future. Generally 'normal' new cast characters, such as regular ponies will be considered pretty much fair game. Any new unicorns or pegasi, earth ponies, or even new critters like Zecora will be pretty much appable. Those with 'special needs' or unusual powers may have to be considered by staff beforehand, but those will be very obvious. There is a general level of 'powerful' we're trying to maintain in the Mane Roleplay in order to keep things sane and fair for everyone, not to mention fun and sensible. Good stories are told by characters themselves, not in how powerful they are. In two seasons (Or even in previous generations!) the vast majority of the story is told about the characters and how they interact, not necessarily what they can do. After all, we've seen even in the last episode of Season Two that even Princess Celestia can occasionally meet her match, and that's saying something. 'Special Needs' Characters, such as new villains and characters with extremely powerful abilities (Such as Starswirl the Bearded, who has been mentioned several times) will generally be considered unplayable with one caveat: If they are a 'hero' type character, such as Starswirl the Bearded, they may become playable at the staff's discretion if it is considered that their general storytelling can be controlled reasonably. Villains, however, are a different story. Unless they are a villain like Trixie who turns out to be pretty much mediocre in power or otherwise unremarkable in any other magical or powerful way, they won't be generally playable by the general public. There will be special events where they may become available for the purposes of those specific events, but for general roleplay please consider them 'off the list' even if we haven't yet specifically added them to the off limits list. I ask that players please consider some self-policing in this regard, and don't get overly excited about the possibility of their being appable. The answer is probably going to be no. If we take for example two villains at one end of the spectrum, Discord and Chrysalis are considered pretty powerful. Discord for his obvious reality-bending powers, and Chrysalis for her ability to steal other pony's powers and her hive followers. That's just way too much to put into sensible roleplay. However, if we take other villains, such as Gilda and Trixie, then we find ourselves at the end of the villain spectrum where really good stories can be told, and that's what we're looking for here. Try to find new and novel ways to bring these characters out, and others like them, in ways that can really get other characters involved in trying to defeat them if the story is going that route. After all, half the fun is finding out where a story can go, and you have the pleasure of not having to bicker about what you can and can't do with one another. Nobody likes a Powergamer, and Nobody likes the story hog. Discord and Chrysalis are considered at 'High Risk' for this sort of thing. It's also why monsters such as the Hydra aren't considered playable. Going forward in the future, it may be that we may encounter more alicorns, like Celestia, Luna and Cadence. Cadence's appearance certainly makes things a little more awkward as we had assumed that Celestia and Luna were the only Princesses there are, but Cadence's appearance (And, for that matter, Blueblood) proves that there may yet be other Princes and Princesses out there in Equestria we have not yet met. As such, unless they are a standard type pony (Such as the unicorn, Blueblood), any new alicorns will strictly be characters that appear in the show directly, unless the show gives us something about Alicorns that allows us to include them as an 'everyday' race. Thus far, they seem to be specifically related to Royalty and more to the point, seem to be at this point only Princesses. So unless we see a male Alicorn in the future, there aren't going to be any in the Mane Roleplay either. I'd like to draw you up a little graph that will likely help illustrate what we're looking for. At one end, we have Discord and Nightmare Moon, and at the other, we have Trixie and Gilda. In this graph is also Chrysalis, and I hope this is easy to understand. Serious Villain | (Discord-Nightmare Moon--Chrysalis----------Trixie--Gilda) | Antagonist As you can see, Nightmare Moon is just one pip below Discord, but that's only because while Nightmare Moon was technically Luna, and her powers were strong, she never got the chance to actually use them against the denizens of Ponyville, much less against Equestria. Discord, on the other hand, did get to use his powers and we were able to see what he was truly capable of, even if he focused them specifically on Ponyville for the time being. On the other end of the spectrum, we have Trixie and Gilda, and of course Gilda is two pips below Trixie because while Gilda isn't technically a 'Villain', she's still an antagonist, and Trixie had the luxury of actually being a unicorn with magic. But there's ten pips between Trixie and Chrysalis, while there's only two between Chrysalis and Nightmare Moon, with just one between Nightmare Moon and Discord. This means that the closer on the scale you get towards Discord, the more likely we are to say it won't be playable, but of course the closer you get towards the Gilda end of the scale, the more likely the character will be playable. But you are more than welcome to developing your own 'heroes' and 'villains', too! Don't limit yourself only to the cast that's shown up in the show...you can create your own villains with which to threaten the welfare of Equestria! I'd consider it a challenge to see if you can create a character that could even entice all six of the Elements of Harmony to join your roleplay to defeat your villain as part of a great story! But try to keep it worth playing and fun. New Technologies This post will likely be shorter than the last, for some really simple reasons. We've seen some new technologies crop up in Equestria as of Season Two, and we'd just like to remind people that roleplay in Equestria is not supposed to be about the technology, it's about the ponies. The technology that appears is generally only there to assist the story and add 'color', but it shouldn't be specifically about the technology itself. Take the Ponyville Express, for example. We saw the train crop up in Season One, but it was handled kind of awkwardly. SInce Season Two, it's taken on it's own 'character' in a way, and we see that it has real steam technology, and even is powered by coal. This makes a lot of possibilities about technology that can be used in the roleplay based on this simple exposition of 'how things work', but we remind folks that this is a more primitive world than ours, and everything should be based around those simpler ideas. Does this mean steam powered technology is main stream? Yes, in a way it does. But keep in mind that where it can be pony powered, it will likely be pony powered, since ponies tend to keep things simpler. They would much rather not put a pony out of a job with mechanization if they can help it, except for tasks that would be considered too dangerous or gruelling. Consider when Applejack was running the cherry sorting machine, for example, which could have been run by a waterfall instead, or a steam engine. It's simple, it keeps a pony employed, and for a pony who's joy is being fit and strong, Applejack or other characters of her type are perfect for that machine. Stuff like that is perfectly fine. However, it'd be nonsensical to have ponies running a generator 24/7 for electricity, so hydroelectric dams and such are more reasonable, and that's where the one outside of Ponyville comes in. Instead of inventing a machine that takes a job or task away from a pony that would otherwise be perfect for it, try to see about making a pony who's job it is to perform that task. Every pony needs a job, and it's much better to have a pony doing it than to hand it off to a machine. We have Flim and Flam to thank for that. Going forward, we will likely see other things, such as resurgence of AIrships, and such. Pinkie's Party cannon and her welcome wagon are great examples of a persistent 'technology' with a specific purpose that may come up in the future. We'd like to remind folks about what was just said above, and remember to make their stories about the ponies in them, not about how fantastic a machine can be invented for a singular purpose, except if the story is to be about overcoming that machine. Perhaps a pony invents a machine that can cut down trees faster than manual labor, but it turns out that by doing so it's threatening the wellbeing of the forest or otherwise goes out of control and results in ponies having to work together to stop it before disaster strikes. Just a few ideas, but at its heart, it should really be about the story. The same goes for other unusual concepts, like Minecarts, and cranes. New Abilities This one will be even simpler than the technology bit. We know that Celestia and Luna are supposed to be the two most powerful ponies in all of Equestria. But Cadence's appearance and Chrysalis's suggest that there are other ponies out there with varying levels of power and abilities that have yet been untapped. Nightmare Moon is a classic example of a villain that threatens the very existence of Equestria, and I'd be sure to say that Season Three will likely bring about another Crisis as part of the season just as the last two have. I look forward to it, as well! Let's address the two new characters we've been introduced at the end of season two. I'll start first with Cadence, and move on to Chrysalis. Cadence is, of course, an alicorn, and evidently another niece of Princess Celestia. This means that Princess Cadence is likely of the same strain of power, but the last episodes of Season Two have given us pretty much the extent of her power. She only seems to be able to influence the power of love between characters, and this is actually a little bit dangerous. Unlike Celestia, who's main role seems to be to come in and pretty much be the hard stop when things are getting out of hand (As infrequent as she's been seen to do it, passing it off to Twilight and her Friends), Cadence is of a much lower caliber of alicorn than her aunt. She's most likely not as physically strong (As seen with the minecart scene, but her previous appearances during her babysitting sequences suggest the same) as Celestia and Luna, and her magic isn't particularily mind-blowingly powerful. Only with Shining Armor was she able to bolster his magic to allow him to cast the single spell that he was best suited for, but on her own she's otherwise pretty weak. This is unusual in that it has somewhat broken the hard and fast rule that all alicorns are super powerful, but that's to be expected as she doesn't even have the same kind of 'niche' to fill as Celestia and Luna, and as such, her powers wouldn't really have as much the same place. However, this also means that Cadence -is- playable by the general public. But let's take Chrysalis as another example. She's also technically an alicorn, though by her very appearance, she's more like an insect than a regular alicorn. She's got a horn and wings, but she's the first appearance of a type of Flutter Pony we have seen as yet. She's like the Queen of a Bee Hive, and her 'subjects' are more akin to monsters than playable characters, and so we've decided that at this time they're not going to be appable. Chrysalis, like Cadence, doesn't seem to have much in the way of Celestia-caliber power, yet we've seen that one of her most significant strengths is the ability to feed off of love, and turn that into a powerful weapon she can use against Equestria's most powerful of ponies. Yet she was defeatable by that same power, when it was used appropriately, by Shining Armor and Cadence together. This is very similar to how the Elements of Harmony worked against Discord. This is why she's considered unplayable by the general public, but she -will- be allowable for special events, just as Discord and other powerful monsters will be. For my take on Chrysalis's subjects, see this post lower in this thread. --------------------------------- I hope this explanation helps folks understand where things are and where they're likely to go! If you have any questions, please by all means, feel free to post your comments and concerns!
  20. For any newpony on this site I recommend for you to read this. It is super important to read the rules because if you don't know whats right and whats not you can do something on accident and not know till told of what u'd done. And sooner or later you can end of banned! So my best idea is to go over the rules and follow every word it says. I hope this has been any help to you. Thank you ~adiosToreador
  21. Hello there! This is Skye, your friendly Equestrian Peryton here with some exciting new news! Some of you may have noticed, the 'Getting Started' section is no longer visible. That's because we've replaced it with a more centralized 'Rules and Faqs' Section. You can find it on the main page by clicking on the icon you see below: This will take you to our new Rules, Guides, Faqs and Info page where all that stuff will be stored from here on in. Though it won't work quite the same as posts and topics, at least they'll all be found in the same place. And it'll be quick and easy to find, theoretically. But here's how you can help! In each of the documents, we work hard to make sure all the links all work. So if you come across a link that doesn't work, please by all means, let me know! It'd be helpful if you'd let me know which page you were on with the bad link, and the link to which page it was referring to. That goes for the Rules/Guides/Faqs/Info page and any other reference posts you come across (Like the shortened Application form in the Applications Forum). Hope this makes things more attractive and easier to use!
  22. Welcome to the Creativity Corral! It's here where all of your creative ventures are supposed to go to keep them nice and organized. Oh, but before you start, we have just a few rules in order to keep the corral tidy and sane. Firstly: No Plagiarism, Tracing (Copying) or Art Theft . Plagiarism or Tracing is the drawing of artwork that is a duplicate of someone else's artwork and claiming it as your own. If we find out about it, we won't be happy! Same goes for Art Theft, which is the direct copying of someone else's artwork and claiming it as your own. All work must either be original or posted with the explicit permission of the original creator. No Begging. Unless someone offers to create you something or opens offers to create things (Known as commissions), don't ask. No sex, porn, or excessive gore. Seriously, keep it reasonable. If you want to do this kind of stuff, keep it off site. We really don't need to hear about sexual conquests or how messily someone was disassembled. Seriously. Do not advertise the sale of products or services. Regarding Commissions: Canterlot.com cannot be held responsible for any exchanges between it's users.
  23. Nightmare Night Instructions: *updated!* - check end of post for additional material! Here's the game, and everypony has to play! Well, not if you don't want to- but there will be a prize for the pony who gets the most candy! There may even be awards for those ponies who achieve something great! Here's how it works: There are four locations, and each night of the event you may choose to trick-or-treat at one location. Each night, a different character will appear at a random location, and you will be tricked, or treated! The object of the game is to be treated the most times, and end up with the most candy by the end. There will be a real prize given away, so do your best to get as much candy as possible! Basic Rules: -Once you pick a location for that 'night' (one location per RL day), you may not be active in a different location until the next night! -Each night you can choose a different location to try your luck at, or choose to revisit the same one you last visited- but you may only trick-or-treat at one location per night!. -Also, no wings, and no magic! Wait, that's not right! Oh, you can only have ONE character participate, although it can be a cast character if you have one. Remember, you can go to the same place every night, but the fun is in mixing it up! -Each topic is open for 24 hours- to Trick-or-Treat for that day you must choose one location and RP your chosen character (OC or Cast) within that thread during those 24 hours! At midnight (my time) each topic will be visited by a mystery character, and all the ponies present will be tricked, or treated accordingly, and the thread will then be closed to all posts. New threads will open up at 12:01am the next morning starting a the next 'night' to be RP'ed! Be sure not to miss a night, and try to get as many candies as possible! Trick-or-Treat outcomes: Treat – Receive 1-2 pieces of candy Trick – Lose 1 piece of candy Poison Joke – The next round, your character is cursed with Poison Joke! However, they may continue to play as usual, just with the effects of Poison Joke. This event will run from October 29th until November 4th! *~Updated~* There are five possible characters that can visit each location (topic) per night- but only 4 locations- each character does something different, and you never know which character will show up in which thread- its always random! At midnight each night, the threads will lock and I will post which character has visited each thread in the thread- I will then unlock the topic and you can RP out your character's reaction to the trick-or-treat result! Every post after mine will not be counted towards candy- since the topic has already been trick or treated. Each thread will stay open only 24 hours after it has been visited by its mystery character for you to RP your reaction- once it is closed, it is closed for good! I will post rankings soon!
