Character Summary:Decades of mismanagement of the family farm just outside of Ponyville has left it a dustbowl. Her ancestors were originally potato farmers (ponies have to get their chips somewhere) during the very foundations of Ponyville. and were for a time a VERY prosperous farm. Alas, Blushroom's great -great grandparents pushed their children into taking up the family business despite their cutie marks being the exact opposite of potato-related, and those great-grandparents made their children take over. By then the land was already pretty useless for growing anything but mushrooms, and the barns were in such disrepair that they just fell down, so Blushroom's Grandfather Morel tried to capitalize on the few pockets where mushrooms and some wild herbs clung to the last bits of viable soil. Morel met and married Bolette, a pony with a similar love of mushrooms, from Canterlot. Together they had a modest trade in Ponyville, and had one daughter.. When Blushroom's mother Chanterelle, a vain, silly, and irresponsible mare, was old enough she ran off to Manehattan, eloped and returned with a tiny filly that she left in care of her parents. Soon afterwards, Chanterelle disappeared with her husband never to be seen again. Blushroom doesn't know much about her parents, but it is rumored that they are still in Manehattan together, trying to keep a hold of their youth. Lots of flank lifts and botox.

Despite these bleak surroundings, and somewhat of a tragic start, Blushroom's childhood was VERY happy with her grandparents (better than it would have been with her train wreck of a mother). Blushroom was such an imaginative filly, pretending stumps were castles and building little towns for the fairies that she imagined in the woods. There was a lot of love in the tree house on the farm, but there was not an exceptional deal of socializing with ponies her own age. When she was finally old enough to go to school, a lot of the other ponies just found her weird for her lack of social skills. It didn't help that it took her until nearly adult-hood to get a cutie mark! She was never invited for sleepovers or parties, so just increasingly found friends in the trees, plants, and yes, mushrooms of the Everfree Forest. At first she stuck to the outskirts, within sight of the trees house and the tumbled down barns. But as she got older, she got braver and went deeper into it and discovered all kids of wonderful edible things that just GREW! Her love of the forest all came to a head last summer when the Pegasus ponies of Ponyville neglected to have schedules rainstorms on the farm made it even dustier, and no mushrooms grew. No mushrooms meant no money, and since you can't live on mushrooms alone, no food. Faced with starvation, Blushroom scoured the forest looking for edible items that grew wild to help feed her family. She discovered that not only were some wild foods better than what she was accustomed to from the Ponyville grocery store, but that there were all kinds of plants and fungi that couldn't be cultivated easily that she could find in the forest! Blushroom realized that she had a special knack for distinguishing edible and delicious mushrooms from the poisonous ones, and her five-mushroom cutie mark appeared on her flank. Her talent saved her family that summer, and in the following months she dedicated her time to making gourmet forest-found meals. Her quest for ingredients for the perfect mushroom bisque IS pulling her out of her shell a tiny little bit. She often dreams of opening a restaurant in Ponyville to showcase her savory creations when she grows up, but at the same time is terrified of the attention it would being her.

Blushroom is quite a happy pony, content just sitting in a sunbeam, or exploring the forest. But that damned insecurity and fear of rejection is keeping her from having any kind of a social life. She often admires the "mane" cast from afar, and particularly likes to gaze in the Carousel Boutique shop's windows. She tries to replicate many of Rarity's designs in natural materials like bark, moss and flowers (much to her OWN chagrin, she is a little afraid of becoming just like her silly mother). She's too afraid to try to be friends with them, or anyone, because she is painfully shy and afraid that the ponies will laugh at her for living in a tree on a dust farm, with her mane always looking like a horror from being in the woods. She is not totally a hermit, though; she does from time to time purchase manure from Applejack's farm to help the local mushrooms grow better, but usually waits until only Granny Smith is around. She's afraid of Applejack's forthrightness (but admires her nonetheless, from afar), but even MORE afraid of Big Macintosh, who she thinks is dreamy (from afar). She has a half-wild pig friend named Snout (the descendant of a pig from the farm when it was prosperous) who lives in the Everfree Forest and helps her find truffles, but Snout is not her constant companion. She also, rather shyly joins in on the Running of the Leaves once a year, but always stays to the back and hopes that nobody notices. She loves Autumn most of all because she can blend in.

She definitely needs to learn that most of this rejection is all in her head and that if she makes true friends they will like her despite what she assumes is a major lifestyle flaw.
