Coat colour: Light Brown

Mane/Tail/Markings colour & Style: Slicked back blond mane with platinum highlight. Tail is the same, but slightly messy. His coat is a light golden brown. He is often seen wearing a lab coat over though.

Physique: Gears is tall (slightly above average height), slender, but athletic build.

Cutie Mark: Star of life (blue medical star with Rod of Asclepius). He obtained it when he saved his fathers life when he experienced cardiac arrest one night. He was able to create a life saving spark that saved his father’s life.

Origin/Residence: Born and raised in Manehattan, and is still a current resident there. Often times he can be found in his lab or at the hospital.

Occupation: Medical researcher (magic and biological) and free lance doctor.

Motivation: To further medical science in both magic and biology. His main focus is that of magic, but he realizes that not every doctor is a unicorn and not every problem can be solved with magic alone. He wishes to heal the world of medical problems and make it easier for medical professionals to perform their services cheaply and efficiently. He also wished heal ponies personally, and he does so as free lance to those in need as a part of Manehattan Hospital’s outreach program. However, the biggest thing is that he doesn’t want to disappoint his parents more than he already has, by straying from the family business; he wants to make them proud.

Also, he wants and needs challenge. He’ll often take on a medical challenge that has stumped the doctors at Manehattan Hospital to try and figure out the problem.

Likes: Science, music (anything that can calm him down after a stressful day, or that can stave off boredom if his mind isn’t working on a problem), challenges, sarcasm, research (anything and everything, if you tell him something he doesn’t know he’ll seek to correct that)

Dislikes: Stupidity, suffering, being told what to do or how to do it, liars

Character Summary:

History: Razor Gears was born and raised in Manehattan under two parents, his mother Clockwork and father Rotor Gears, whom are dedicated to using gears to make the lives of ponies easier. His father named him Razor Gears in hopes that he would follow in his father’s foot steps and become an engineer making tools for ponies in construction or other engineering work, like his sister, Gear Spring, became with his mother. He was brought up on applied sciences and physics, and was likewise very talented from a young age. He thought this would be his life, but he was never truly happy doing that work in school. It came easy for him, but it made him bored. He also never understood why, if he was so talented it didn’t earn him his cutie mark. He was becoming frustrated with that and life and his grades started to slip. His life changed one night when he was a colt.

One night he and his sister were awoken by a crash in their parent’s bedroom, rushing in the siblings saw their father motionless on the bed. Clockwork instructed Spring to run and get the doctor because Rotor’s heart had stopped. She told Gears to go back to bed because there was nothing he could do to help. In his panic and sadness he ran up to his fathers side and started crying, nudging at his father’s side. He only had one wish in his mind which was to save his father. Then a spark leaped from his horn and into his father, which lead to a gasp from his father. Shortly after the doctor got there she asked who had performed cardiopulmonary respiration on him, which apparently saved his life. Gears said nothing since he didn’t know what he did. That night he earned his cutie mark and knew he was going in the direction of medicine.

He started studying biology and medical magic, and general magic after that. When his father got out of the hospital he told his father that he wanted to become a doctor instead. His father called his decision shameless and that he would not succeed and would come crawling back later to be an engineer with him. His mother supported him, and helped him get into medical school. Upon his graduation his father realized that he was wrong and tried to make amends but didn’t know how. To this day their relationship is forced at best, because his father was never there for him. However, he realized one thing; his father was right about it being hard for him to become a doctor. Most patients wouldn’t want to be treated by a doctor with the name “Razor Gears,” and the fact that he barely made it through. His ability to take tests was abysmal, and he often found himself being unable to perform unless it was a practical exam, which he excelled in, along with lab based classes. So he started doing research on new techniques and modifying old techniques to heal the sick and injured with magic and practical medicine after his graduation and residency.

Other doctors recognize his skills in medicine and in creating new and inventive ways and started using some of his published works in their practice, and occasionally referring patients who couldn’t afford treatment or couldn’t make it to the hospital to his services. Eventually he was hired as a part of the hospital’s outreach program to help the less fortunate around the city. He wasn’t the best, but he was creative and could see solutions where other doctors could not, in fear of endangering a patient’s life. This however is not always successful, and like other doctors occasionally loses patients. This doesn’t stifle his ambition to save everyone he can whether it is personally or through his research.

Family: His mother is Clockwork, a skilled watch and clockmaker. She always tries to make new designs and mechanisms to get the best accuracy. His father is a mechanical engineer who works closely with construction companies to make machines for their construction projects known as Rotor Gears. He has an older sister named Gear Spring who works with his mother on clocks and devices. She has an affinity for designing the springs of the clocks and new mechanisms that are efficient in clock making.

Qualities: Gears is logically minded, and can learn many things easily, at least conceptually. He is skilled in medical magic, and can perform basic unicorn magic, like levitation, with ease. Basically any kind of magic that can affect a pony's body or physiology he can perform with work, time and study (and sometimes a bit of creative thought). He has the ability to understand science and how it applies to the medical field. He is also quite creative, and can solve many problems that more experienced or more intelligent ponies may have difficulty with.

Interpersonally he is cautiously outgoing.

His personal philosophy is that he wants to make himself the best pony he can be, whether it be physically or mentally.

Flaws: Most of his positive qualities lead to his character flaws. His ability to learn things easily makes him overconfident and will take action because of this leading to problems. He has to keep his overconfidence in check when a pony’s life is in his hands. This overconfidence also made his grades in school suffer, often procrastinating instead of studying and doing the work which was assigned to him. His abilities in medical science makes him mistakenly think that he can perform any magic he finds in books. As said he is always studying or working out to make himself better either physically or mentally (though he tends to study only things that interest him greatly or he needs immediately). He believes that both are linked. This however makes him hard to socialize with at times, and it takes some doing to get him to come out of his lab. He is also willing to try any magic he reads about, which has caused him some pain in the past.

Personality: He is overconfident, but easy to put in his place if a pony knows how. He is often sarcastic and is never serious unless someone’s life is on the line. He can be argumentative about almost anything he has done research on. As sarcastic and cynical as he is, it doesn’t change that he wants to help everyone, and he will if ponies give him a chance.

This is an excellent app! Well written, all of the required fields completed as well as a very unique and endearing character! I think this mix of 'medicine and magic' sounds very promising. One question I do have. Has he studied medicine? Is he a LICENSED doctor?

Yes, he went to medical school and completed his residency.

[colour=#282828]However, during his residency, he realized that many many patients were uneasy being treated by a doctor with such an odd name, and so he started doing research after its completion. It wasn't until later that other doctors started referring those in need to him that he started doing freelance medicine. Kind of like concierge medicine.[/colour]

So after messing around with pony generator, I think I finally feel happy with what I came out with.

So that is more or less what I think Razor Gears looks like.
