Character Summary: Gold Standard is the only foal of Canterlot unicorns High Stakes and Lady Risk. He was named for his gold colored coat and hopes that he would carry on the family investment business. At first, the happy family of three lived well from all of their smart business dealings. But later on, many of the unicorn couple’s investments went sour. Eventually, the family ‘fortune’ was gone and the once proud unicorn couple was reduced to poverty. In order to make enough bits to live on, High Stakes and Lady Luck hired themselves out as wagon pulling delivery ponies. It was hard work, but the happy couple was determined to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table, especially for their only colt. One stormy night, they took an emergency delivery to Trottingham when they were offered double the pay to get it their on time through the raging storm. Gold Standard didn’t want his parents to go, but they insisted all would be fine. Leaving him with a foalsitter, the couple set out with their wagonload into the night. Sadly, they never came back.

With no kinfolk to take him in, Gold Standard was sent to the Equestria Orphanage. Broken hearted and grief stricken, for months Gold would rarely leave his room. It took the kindhearted Phoebe Piccafilly to get him to believe in himself again. Thanks to her tireless efforts, Gold Standard began to recover emotionally from the trauma that had defined his life. “Nanny” taught him that the world was a wide, wonderful place full of adventure and opportunity. Now he has a great outlook on life and participates fully in the everyday activities of the orphanage. Excelling as a student, Gold was also able to help many of his fellow orphans cope with the circumstances that brought them to the orphanage. Gold Standard has quietly become somewhat of a role model and ‘leader’ among the orphaned foals. He is happy, warm and caring. Gold Standard is determined to succeed in spite of his tragic past. His one goal in life is to someday earn a college degree and start a business.

Personality: Gold Standard is not your typical Canterlot unicorn. Although there are times he does act a little snobbish, Gold is usually very 'down to earth.' He enjoys simple pleasures and truly cares about his fellow foal. He will often go 'out of his way' to help those in need, and even under less than ideal situations, Gold sincerely tries to make the best of things. He's very kind, loyal and brave. He's the kind of foal that doesn't get discouraged through failure. This is especially true with his magic. Nanny's steady encouragement has helped to rebuild his self esteem. Though he is young in years, in many ways, his life story has helped make him stronger.

This is a good application, though I do have a few questions I'd like to ask, in order to help you expand on the character a bit.

He has a rather short backstory- this is understandable due to his young age. However, you make little reference to his personality. Perhaps you could dedicate an additional paragraph in the character summary detailing a bit more about his personality? You touched on it, but it is generally a good idea to ask yourself what your character would be like to interact with. How does he behave around others? It isn't enough to simply list traits - it's usually a good idea to go into a bit more detail on the personality of the character.

Still, great work!
