[Nightmare Night] Day 3 - Nightmare Moon's Monument

The statute standing just at the edge of the Everfree Forest is a traditional stop for all Nightmare Night goers. The foals of the town frequently leave candy offerings, and there is already a significant pile gathered. There is a rumor that, should anypony dare to take a piece from the foot of the statue, it will come to life, and consume the offending pony. More often than not, however, one of the locals will just jump out and scare whoever was trying to sneak a piece. But every since Princess Luna's return, someponies could swear there were more mysterious workings surrounding the monument.

Engraved in the front of the statue:

You dare to seek out Nightmare Moon? Then prepare to meet your doom!

For foals she finds a special treat- unless you leave her something sweet!

Moonlite Frost read the engravings and giggled, "Oh now that sweet," she smiled as she looked at the statue, "So much hard work and dedication must have been put into this statue, wonder who made it," she asked herself as she looks around to see if any other pony was there. Then she looked back at the statue, she had always enjoyed the Mare on the Moon tale, and then it came true! She thought about every angle to look at it, I mean if you put hard work into making something beautiful and everyone ignored it, well you might get upset too.

Nightmare Moon had just gone too far, oh such a powerful and great Mare she could have been, then she thought,. "Duh Moonlite she is real and great, this is just a different form of Luna," she giggled and sat down to admire the statue some more, partially hoping the ones named Twilight Sparkle or Rarity would show up.

Having gotten the urge to scare some ponies out of his system, Thunder Crash was calmed down. His natural progression inland had lead him to trying to find the statue of Nightmare Moon that he'd heard about days ago. Of course, after his carousing around the Lunar Palace, he'd decided to tell his crew that they could take Nightmare Night as a holiday and cut out on the hard work of making their dry dock. They all needed the rest anyway. The crew had jumped at the chance for some down time, and many had decided to go inland a bit more and enjoy the festivities. Being pirates they didn't really need costumes. They just blended right in with all the regular merry makers.

Of course, tonight was a night that Thunder had been particularly waiting for. He'd written a couple letters to Luna, and he did hope that he got to meet her, but this statue was something he wanted to see. He'd never known the Princess, as she was now or while her other self was making a merry mess of things, but he'd always wanted to meet her - even when he was just a foal. Most ponies feared her in their youth. They got told spooky stories and were scared of her. That hadn't been the case with him. No, his parents had told him the good about her - that she made the night sky, and that it was because of her that they were safe at night. Because of her they couldn't get lost. In a way, she was their guardian angel, in no certain terms.

Touching down not far from the statue, he stood behind the mare that looked upon it. A small smile came to his face to see someone else here, though when his keen eyes fell upon the engraving he scowled a bit, stepping forward.

"Sea and Sky..." He scoffed, "...Wish they'd change that engraving." He looked up at the statue. "Nightmare Night might be all about fun, but... poor Luna will never be let live this down." He paused, then looked at the mare with a faint smile. "Besides, it's kind of silly to leave good candy laying around, don't you think?" He looked at the hooves of the statue then. "Unless... hmmm... I wonder if Luna ever comes to collect it." He chuckled at the thought.

(-1 Candy, bags switched by Discord)

Fire Heart stood in front of the meanacing looking statue of Nightmare Moon. The structure was made even creepier by the glow of the full moon behind it. The unicorn read the plaque that was placed on the statue, interested in the rhyming warning.

Being a student, Fire Heart knew all about the event of how Princess Luna became Nightmare Moon, was banished, returned after a thousand years, and then was restored to her original state. Having met the Princess of the Night herself, the older filly knew that Nightmare Moon was gone. It was interesting though that ponies still persisted in keeping the memory of Luna's dark side alive and well. The unicorn also noticed that even the foals were encouraged to deposit a candy at the foot of the statue or risk being eaten by Nightmare Moon.

Fire pictured in her mind when everything was said and done, Princess Luna collecting the candy and enjoying it in the castle along with her sister. The thought of her friend being happy made her smile.

Fire then deposited a chocolate at the foot of the statue along with the rest of the candy that was there.

"hmm, what was that?" she turned to the Colt that landed nearby, "Oh the candy, yeah I'm pretty sure it's for her, that's why I left none," she explained, "I figure when whoever comes to pick it up arrives I may see them personally!" she said with a smile, "Always wanted to meet our great Royal Sister of the night," she smiled and looked up, "Mits beautiful isn't it, all because of her,"

Ember Heart entered the clearing where the famous Nightmare Moon Monument sat. Moonlight from the faceless moon cast a shadow in front of the statue which seemed to consume everything in it's path. It certainly was an eerie sight to behold. He was able to take comfort in the fact that he was not alone. Other ponies had come to see the statue as well. It wasn't the most enjoyable thing on his list of Nightmare Night fun to do but he felt it was better to get it out of the way now rather than later.

He enjoyed the effect the moonlight had on the paint he used for the skeleton markings on his charcoal coat. It made it glow and stood out. It was far better than his last costume which involved a large muffin and a baker's cap. Tentatively, he trotted up to the statue, allowing the shadow it cast consume him. He flinched as he felt a cold breeze blow by as he entered the shadow. The breeze picked up as he drew closer. Finally, he stood in front of the statue. With a glow of his horn, he pulled a small object out of his saddlepack, the lack of bulk showed his lack of luck with his trick or treating. It was a small wrapped piece of taffy he had bought earlier. He gently set it before the statue before backing away from his offering. It was such a silly tradition but it wasn't something he was going to miss out on. He turned to leave before taking one last look at the statue. "Creepy." he muttered quietly into the wind.

Nightmare Moon has returned! But as her shadowy form steps from the shadows, you see that it's actually just Princess Luna. Phew! The Princess of the Night has embraced this holiday with all of her heart, and wishes to reward those who, on the night dedicated to herself, show their courage greatly. Finding her results in gaining her respect—but more importantly, two pieces of candy!

Moonlite bowed to the great Princess of the Night, "Luna, an honor to meet you," she said gracefully as she was given 2 prices of candy from her. Oh how she wanted to just sit and talk with such an honorable pony, but the Princess was far to busy to be bothered, so Moonlite just sat back and went back to admiring the statue. She knew only one thing, she got to meet the Royal sister and now, her Nightmare Night was the best!

Fire Heart was pleased to see her friend making an appearance at Nightmare Night. It warmed her heart to see Luna enjoying herself.

"Hello there Princess Luna," Fire said with a respectful bow before giving the princess a hug, "Great to see you again! Hope you have a great Nightmare Night. This is really fun fior me."

The older filly was rewarded with two candies as were the other ponies who were gathered at the statue.

"Thanks! Well, I have to get going. I have a few more places to visit. Hope to see you again in Canterlot, Princess."

(+2 Candies)
