Daring Do and the Quest for the Golden Statue (Closed)

The day had finally come. The day Twilight had always dreamed of! The day when she would get to do one of her favorite hobbies to a few fillies and colts. On this day Twilight gets to read to a few lucky fillies and colts of Ponyville in her very own Library. She was so excited she could hardly contain herself! She had spent a few hours of her day cleaning up the library and making it perfect for the kids when they arrived. She wanted them to WANT to come back because who knows, she may do this again if the kids like it. Though she was a bit nervous about reading to kids she wanted to make a good impression. She knew almost all of the kids but she wondered if any new ones would show up today.

Twilight then quit worrying about her impressing the kids and decided to get ready. It was almost time for the kids to arrive. So Twilight went over to the area she had set up in the Library. She had a seat for her and a blanket set up on the ground and a few cushions for the kids to sit comfortably on. She also had a small stand by her chair for the book of choice to rest. That was it. The book. Daring Do and the Quest for the Golden Statue. She had a few more Daring Do books but she chose this one because she thought it would be best. As she looked it over she saw Spike out of her peripherals. "Hey Spike. Do you think the kids will enjoy this book?" She didn't look at him but she still awaited his answer. No answer. "Spike?" She still didn't look and still no answer. This time she turned her head and saw that Spike was gone. She huffed and turned her eyes back to the book. "Whatever. I know the kids will like this book." She gave the book a nice smile and then looked up.

She looked towards the door and figured she would go and open the door so ponies would know she was home...or something. She didn't want anypony to get lost on their way here. But she really had no idea how anypony could get lost on their way here but anyways. She trotted over and opened the door and to her surprise there were two kids already there. One looked as if he was about to knock on the door. There was a filly and a colt. She knew both of them.

Shady and Scootaloo decided to come to Twilight's book reading today. Well they both actually really wanted to come today. They heard about it in class one day and then they both met after school and decided to go. Scootaloo had no idea if any of her fellow CMC were coming. But she was sure if they did they would love the story. Once they reached Twilight's house they both looked at each other. Shady was the one who decided to knock. But just when he did the door opened and Miss Sparkle was there in the doorway.

"Oh well hello there!" She gave both of them a friendly smile. "You two are here for the book reading correct?" She tilted her head to the side and gave them both a raised eyebrow in question.

Shady and Scootaloo both looked at eachother and then nodded at Twilight. "Yes Ma'am we are!" Shady gave Twilight a friendly smile.

Scootaloo then jumped in front of Shady and gave Twilight her wide eyed eager face. "Is it true? Are we reading a Daring Do book?" She started to bounce a bit at her own excitement. Shady eagerly looked at Twilight and hoped she said yes. If she said no then he would be severely disappointed.

Twilight noted their eagerness and couldn't help but giggle at it. "Why yes you heard right. Come on in!" She opened the door wider for Scootaloo and Shady to enter. Both of them looked at one another and each gave a wide eyed and opened mouth expression.

They then ran inside and stopped once they got in. Scootaloo was in front of Shady and she stopped first which caused him to fall over. They both then saw the area where they were pretty sure the reading would take place. So they both trotted over to the area and took a seat by each other. "I'm so excited!" Scootaloo was only really excited because she knew that Rainbow Dash loved Daring Do. And anything Rainbow Dash loved, Scootaloo must love. She made a few squeaks and waved her hooves around a bit. Shady smiled at her and laughed. "So am I!" They both laughed and then waited, not so patently, for the reading to start.

Twilight was standing by the door awaiting more kids to arrive.

Rune trotted towards Twilight's Library with an excited smile on his face. The young unicorn colt waved to Twilight as he stepped onto the threshold of her home, "Good morning Miss Twilight! I'm really happy you decided to do this!" He said.

Rune passed her and saw Shady Daze and Scootaloo were already inside. He walked up to them, "Good to see you two here!" Rune chuckled slightly and smiled, "You seem really excited about this Scoots."

Frost had trotted down the road of Ponyville, the birds chirped, the wind blew lightly which moved his mane in a slight way. His Lightblue mane Glistened in the sunlight. His hooves were stained with A dark brown of mud. He had To help his mother and father on the garden recently and had worked very diligantly to get done as soon as he could. He Had no wings nor a horn to help him so his chores usually had to be done with a can do spirit and tools. He Had heard from his friend Shady Daze that that Twilight sparkle was reading a book for all of the small ones. He didnt really care up until he heard it was about Daring Do! He had begun to trot faster down the road. His exitement began to get the best of him. He began a full run and ran as fast as his little body would let him. He had a small cloud of dust behind him as he went.

Twilight's library came into view and he ran continuously until he made it. His breath was lost but he smiled up to twilight, "I hope i.....didnt miss it!" He breathed. He fell on his side and tried to catch his breath. He looked to see 3 other younger ponies here too. Shady Daze, Scootaloo, and.....Rune was it? he couldnt really remember but he knew his face. He smiled to them"I wonder which daring do she is going to read to us...." He said to them. it was all he could thinl of to say at the moment.

Twilight noticed that two new colts arrived for the reading of the book. She became a bit zealous to begin but she figured she would need to wait. So instead she looked back at the two new colts and smiled at them as they started to mingle with the already seated ponies. She wanted to trot over and talk to them but decided to stay by the door. "Welcome! We will begin shortly!" She gave the two colts a smile and then turned back to the doorway and patiently awaited any more colts or fillies. Or any older ponies as well

Both Shady and Scootaloo noticed the arrival of the two new colts. They both gave them friendly waves and smiles. Shady noticed his friend had come up to him and asked him if they were reading a Daring Do novel. He opened his mouth to speak but Scootaloo interrupted him. "Oh yeah we are!! Daring Do is awesome!" She waved her hooves in the air a bit and squealed again. She could no longer contain her excitement.

Through laughter Shady looked over at Rune and Frost. "I'm pretty sure it is Daring Do. Which I am excited for!" He to let out a small squeal and then contained his excitement.

Rune gave an enthusiastic nod, "I'm really excited about it to! My uncle has raved to me about the Daring Do books and how good the writing is. Not to mention they are something of historical fiction, I think, so that just makes them all the better!"

The beige colt grinned as he spoke.

Where could a child be headed to when there's no school or household chores to be completed? The park? A friend's house? The playground? How about a library? Yes, Dawn was was headed there. For unlike most fillies and colts, she actually took solace in reading.

Now, normally she'd study or read something like a spell book, or "Magic for Dummies". But today, she decided to step away from her normal playlist of literature and try some fiction. Specifically, Daring Do. This famed fiction mare is known by many and loved by many more. And how could she not be? A brave adventurer, fearless, courageous, agile, headstrong, cunning!! What more could you want from a protagonist!?

Dawn approached the large tree house. She quickly greeted the purple librarian, Twilight Sparkle, then took her seat amongst the other fillies and foals, eagerly awaiting the start of the novel.

The shy young filly couldn't say she was excited about story time in the library - it wouldn't be any different from having Mummy read her stories at home, right? Plus she'd be with a group of other fillies and colts who she didn't know, and she wasn't sure about how that would work out. She typically didn't much like having to meet new colts or make new friends.

But Daddy told her she had to go to story time, because he and mummy had work to do. So her father dropped her off at the library and waved goodbye to his little filly as though he hadn't a care in the world. This frustrated the little pink filly - if he was going to make her spend an afternoon with ponies she didn't know, then surely she could have at least had one friend come with her. Maybe her niece, Pinchy, could have tagged along. Or her best friend Noi.

Piña took a deep breath as she faced the library, and actually shied away from the friendly greeting of the Unicorn who would be reading the story to them. She didn't know the librarian very well, and it always took her a while to warm up to strangers. She was pleasantly surprised to find, upon entering the small library, that there were a few foals inside that she at least knew from school. Scootaloo was a wild and rambunctious sort and was usually playing with her other friends, but she knew Shady Daze rather well and decided to take an empty seat next to him. "Hi, Shady," she said in her small, shy voice to the other earth pony. She was sure she knew who the other colts were, too, but couldn't think of their names so she decided not to say anything at all to them.

She sat down on the floor of the library and began smoothing down her mane with one of her hooves while she waited for the storyteller to start.

Twilight noticed that one new filly had arrived. She didn't know her name but she seemed to be one of the shy ones and she had to admit that she found the shyness kind of cute. But still she would have preferred a hello or something. But anyways, she watched as the young filly trotted over towards the area and took a seat next to the light blue colt. She watched as she greeted him and it made her smile.

Twilight decided that it was time to start to begin reading. So Twilight closed the door and trotted over to the seating area with all of the fillies and colts. She sat in her chair and gave all of them a smile. "Thank you all for coming today. I know you all are really going to enjoy this book." Her smile got even wider at the word "book". Oh how she loved that word. Twilight then glanced over to see if she could find Spike just in case she had any problems with the young ones. She didn't think she would but it was always good to have some support just in case. So Twilight gave all the kids on quick look over. "So is everypony ready?" Her quick look had eagerness written all over it. "Anypony have any questions before we begin?"

Shady heard a familiar voice and noticed a familiar pony. It was Pina Coloda and she had taken a seat by him! He always liked to think of he and Pina as very good friends and all. She was a very shy filly as well. Shady gave her a friendly wave. "Well hey there Pina!" He chuckled a bit and then realized that Twilight had been talking a bit so he stopped his laughter.

Scootaloo stopped and gave about half of her attention to Twilight as she started to talk. The other half of her attention was mainly directed towards the cover of the Daring Do book. She was picturing herself as Daring and imagining what it would be like to be a great adventurer. She would be so cool! Then Scootaloo shook her head and her eyes went wide a bit. Could Daring Do be cooler than Rainbow Dash? Scootaloo froze for a second before coming to the, in her opinion, obvious conclusion that Rainbow Dash was way cooler than Daring. She then raised her hoof and Twilight pointed at her.

"Yeah what's the title of the book?" She raised an eyebrow in question.

Twilight then levitated the book in front of her and read the title. She then narrowed her eyes and said, "Daring Do." She then paused for emphasis. "And the Quest for the Golden Statue!" She flipped the book around and showed them.

Scootaloo felt a bit dumb for not seeing the title of the book when she was staring at the cover a while back.

Frost had sat quite quietly while the other Foals trotted in. He hadnt really known to many of them and decided to seclude himself slightly. The only 2 he knew were Scootaloo and Shady, So he kept to himself. He listened to Twilight as she introduced to book to them. He Hadnt heard of this one before and he sat up a little straighter when the full title was read aloud to them all. He Smiled slightly in anticipation, What could the statue be? It could be more than just a statue right? He figured he should just wait and find out.

Twilight assumed it was time to start the story now. Everypony seemed ready to go and ready to listen. So, while containing her excitement, she looked over at the book and opened the cover open to the first page. She glanced over all the fillies and colts and gave them all a small smile. She was pausing for dramatic effect again. Scootaloo was about to just explode from excitement. Twilight needed to hurry up and read. So Twilight made herself comfortable and then took a deep breath,

"Saddle Arabia. A place where not a lot of ponies go..." ((If I could put in a transition I would have  Like I noise or something..)

post-6916-0-18167400-1370271898_thumb.jp

Daring Do began her trek through the harsh terrain of Saddle Arabia. Normally she goes on her adventures alone but this time she decided to have a few friends come along. Besides, she might need them. Even though Daring could get herself out of almost any situation it was always good to have a few friends by your side. And with the treasure they were hunting for today....it would all be worth.

Treasure. Daring's love. Adventure is her second love but treasure tops it. She has gotten a lot of treasure in her days and today she plans to add one more to her collection. But there is something about where they were headed and the treasure in general. The Golden Statue..hidden in the deserts of Saddle Arabia. She knew that this would be one of her hardest adventures since she never explored much of Saddle Arabia. But the adventure wouldn't be any fun if it was easy wouldn't it?

So there she was. Waiting on the outskirts to the desert overlooking the vast terrain. The sun was just rising so they had all day to explore. She loved to get an early start after all. She scanned the desert terrain and saw...sand. For miles and miles. She wondered if they would have to dig..she hoped not. They'd be digging for hours. Just then Daring heard commotion behind her and turned quickly. She freaked a bit but to her surprise it was just her friends. She wasn't used to having adventuring companions so she was a bit jumpy. She took a breath and looked over all of them. She had a variety of friends here today. There was Indigo, pegasus. Xukar, zebra. Volarte, the ever so slow pegasus. Sparkle Fire and Star Sprite. She glanced over all of them. "Are you all ready to find this treasure?!" She gave them a big smile.

Even if they said no to helping her she would go anyways. She kind of wanted to just take off but, she needed to take it slow. She was sure she would find the treasure.

After a calm silence Indigo Stepped forward, He smiled and nodded His brown mane Moving in the sandy breeze. His eyes heled nothing but determination. "I am at your side." He said to her bowing his head. Daring had Asked him to join on the expidition only on one condition. That he could Take any other artifacts such as vases, Trinkets or runes and Set them in display at the national History museum. He was a pegasus of purpose and drive That Had Sparked Daring Do's Willingness to let him come along. He had looked back to the others to see if they would say the same as he.

Xukar nodded from where he stood near the back of the group, the rising sun reflecting in his turquoise eyes, "I am." Was all he said.

He was here for a simple reason: He felt he owed a debt. On one of Daring's expeditions in the Zebra homeland, she had, albeit inadvertently, saved his village. On that day he vowed to help her, and the time had finally come.

Sparkle trotted forward, following soon after the towering Zebra, he was apprehensive, that much was clear from the look in his eyes. But he was determined to have at least one adventure in his life, and when Daring Do passed through his town on her Journey to far off Saddle Arabia with tales of riches and excitement, how could he pass it up?

It had taken the Pegasus a day to convince Daring Do to let him come along; constantly trying (and failing) to show off his physical prowess, until she eventually noticed he had a keen eye for detail, an invaluable skill for the intrepid treasure hunter. The arduous trek here had almost made him regret his decision, but here he was, ready to see things through to the end.

"I am" he called, giving a sheepish grin to the group stood before him.

Star jumps up and yells" i'm Star Sprite and I'm ready to hunt for treasure!" he's the adventures type but he was extremely exited because he was going on a quest with one of the most famous adventurer Daring Do. But like the others, he had a reason to follow daring, she got back his cities prize jewel and he also felt like he owed daring. he was embarrassed by his answer, but oh well every one has their own entrance. he was ready for the quest of a lifetime with daring.

Daring heard the collective amounts of her friends telling her that they were ready. She nodded at all of them and saw noticed that one pony hadn't responded but she didn't care right now. She was sure this pony would catch up. So Daring waved her hoof around to rally all of the ponies. "Alright then! Ponies today we embark on our quest to find the Golden Statue!" She then pointed her hoof out towards the desert landscape. "Let's go!"

Daring then quickly moved her hooves around and then took off towards the desert landscape. She knew that the heat would probably get to a few ponies but not Daring. She was used to the heat since she had been to various areas and such. Though the sun was glaring down on the ponies she had her hat on and it was shielding her eyes a bit. So she scanned around the desert and saw...nothing. She huffed a bit. Guess this wasn't going to be an easy adventure now was it? Daring then perked herself up, since she realized she didn't want to adventure to be easy! She loved the feel of the sand under her hooves though. Felt much better than rocks and mud and all those other things. Felt good enough for Daring to look leisurely down at her hooves to see a scorpion making it's way towards her front left hoof rearing to attack it. Daring kicked it away and watched it fly off into the sand somewhere. She was glad to see that little vile thing go away.

She turned her head back to her friends. "Watch yourselves friends. This place may not look like it but it is very dangerous." She gave all of them a serious look and then back to overlooking the desert. She swore that something caught her eye so she started to trot towards it. Though it was a ways a way.

Volarte failed to notice in the heat as her wings began to slowly flitter in a way which was of no use for flight, but at the very least helped to keep herself cool, as well as those nearest her. This worked for a short while, until she saw a scorpion approach Daring Do, which startled her so that she took to the sky at unmatched speeds, the only thing coming close to how quickly she darted upward was how quickly that speed decayed to her natural, slow glide. As she slowly allowed herself to spiral back down, she began to think about why she was even here, knowing that Daring Do had asked for her company, but not understanding why.

Volarte was certainly not a fast pegasus, save for the occasional momentary burst, such as that which she had just demonstrated, viewing flying less as a matter of speed and more one of art. Of course, Volarte had not always been so deliberate regarding flight, she was once like all the others, caring aboutn speed. She was never the biggest fan of the Wonderbolts, but loved what she had seen in posters, those split seconds in time where their flight is like a work of art...it was not until she saw them in person she found that flight as art is, for most pegasi, an afterthought, a rare happenstance, but Volarte found the aesthetics of flying more intirigueing han the speed.

Even now, Volarte was unsure whether Daring and herself were friends...what she did know is that Daring, using money from former expeditions, helped her to change careers. They first met after an adventure of Daring's which left her wing crippled, where sudden flight would only cause further injury, so after she had it treated, Volarte was assigned to keep Daring in pace, as Volarte would not be enticed by speed as so many others would. And in this occasion, on this expedition, Daring had seen a need for that attention to detail, but Volarte had not, until now, bothered to ask her why. "Hey Do, if it is so dangerous here, why did you have me come along? You know I'm not good at getting away, if we ever need to..." She said, as she finally touched back down to the ground.

The sun gazed upon the fellow comrades with its intense, blinding rays as was fit for the land it shone on. Little did they know of the presence of a second gaze which was laid upon them. From a distance on a sandy hill, there was a pony, but yet so much more. He glared down the hill to their silhouettes with his biting, ice-blue eyes and felt nothing but plain pity for them. The pony was completely covered in worn, dusty cloths to hid his body from any unwanted gazes which loose pieces of fabric waved in the wind. The wind blew and made streaks of sand dance around his covered hoofs. He knew what to do, he knew what she wanted, it was her demand, and her will had to be granted to all costs!

The pony slid down the hill with determination in his eyes, failure was not an option. He laid a hoof inside his cloth and fingered on the familiar grip of his toll. It had been used before, it will be used again. He entered the wilderness before the desert as he began to draw dangerously close to be group. The pony drew his tool. This had to be swift. He sneaked into a bush close to the group and frowned; who possessed it?! The pony gazed back and forth to each pony and came to the conclusion that the gray pony who appeared to be the leader must have it. He braced his body and prepared himself for what has to be done! The pony was charged and ready to do it. Then suddenly one pony in the group turned his way and he froze on the spot. Had he been seen?! Was it all over?! But the pony kept watching him, it was like the pony couldn't comprehend what he saw and was frozen solid as well.

He took the chance to escape. The pony pulled himself backwards away from the group, knowing in pain that he had failed his mistress.

Well away, though not too far, he considered what he could do instead. This wouldn't work, no, they were too many. He could handle one or two but not this many. The pony needed to change strategy and he had something in mind. A well tested trick that have never failed him before, should do the trick once more. He smiled behind his cloth and began to chuckle. The chuckle increased to laughter and so he laughed until voice broke but he didn't mind it. He kept laughing laud and bright for several minutes to pass. The idea which evolved in his mind grew along with his laughter.

And so he pitied the ponies. They wouldn't know what happened before it was too late change. Way too late.

The toll is the tardis

;)

Juuuust kidding, silly xD

The sun beat down heavily upon the company of ponies as they traveled ever deeper into the seemingly endless sandy wastes, and it was certainly showing on Sparkle Since Daring's altercation with the scorpion a few miles back, he had refused to touch the ground again, and the effort it took to keep him afloat in the intense heat was weighing on him, his wings began to feel heavy and his breathing was becoming stressed, "I'm not built for this kind of work" he complained between breaths.

He stopped for a moment to catch his breath and rest himself, when he gathered his senses again he took a brief look around at the desolate horizon that now encompassed them in all directions, nothing but dunes, the occasional piece of brush or rock. But during his second scan he noticed something else, atop a far off dune stood a faint figure, hidden for the most part by the sun glare. He picked up his pace and caught up with the group, whilst trying to ignore the strange sight. He was sure it was some sort of mirage or a trick of the light, but he kept looking at it in his periphery to be sure.

It was only a short time later that he saw the figure move, a minuscule shade casting dust on the flat of the dune. All he could do was stop and stare so he could focus on the movement.

He blinked and it was gone, Sparkle shook his head to clear his mind and continued walking. Sticking close to Daring should he need to warn her of anything.

Just then, before Twilight could continue reading the story she looked up at the kids and saw that little Scootaloo was getting quite antsy in her seat. She had her hoof raised so Twilight decided to stop and answer her question. She sighed and pointed at Scootaloo. "Yes Scootaloo? You have a question?" She raised and eyebrow and kept her sense of getting annoyed at the young filly. Oh well, everypony was entitled to their questions

So Scootaloo lowered her hoof once Twilight called on her. "Um..who was that pony earlier who was watching Daring and her friends?" She tilted her head to the side a bit out of curiosity and then a few other kids gave collective "Yeahs" out of their curiosity for wanting to know the mystery pony.

Twilight grumbled a bit. "Well I guess we will find out soon won't we?" She smiled at all of them. There really was no need to be angry at them. So she just shook it off and continued. "Now, where was I?..."

As the group trekked through the never ending desert Daring could feel the heat beating down on her. She was sweating but it wasn't a hard and horrible sweat. She was able to just wipe it away so it didn't bother her. Once Daring was wiping her brow sweat clean she looked off into the distance and noticed something. She focused her eyes on it and squinted on the object off in the distance.

She sped ahead of the group slightly and got herself a better look. What she saw made her eyes widen. It looked to be a structure of sorts! Perhaps the temple she and her friends had been searching for? Maybe! They would have to reach it to find that out for sure. So Daring pointed towards the structure off in the distance and with an eager smile on her face she turned to her friends. "Looks like we've found something! Waaaaayyy over there!" She kept her hoof pointed towards the structure until she was sure that everypony had gotten a good look at it. She lowered her hoof and stomped on the ground. "Let's go!" She then slowly made her way down a small sand dune she had propped herself up on.

star watches daring closely to see if anything was bugging her but all seemed clear. he kept watch of the environment and barely saw anything but sand. for a second he thought that one of them would have to stop and go back, but they all seemed alright. after a while he looks back and sees fire back staring but he didn't want to catch fire off guard so he kept walking. after a while he stops by a cactus and breaks it open to get more water from inside the cactus. it was lucky that the cactus was full so he split the water evenly to every one who wants it and put it in there canteens and they were off again.

Xukar had followed Daring in silence. He wasn't really one for idle chatter in the first place, and when walking through a desert, it is always wise to conserve ones breath. He had accepted the canteen of fresh cactus water from Star Sprite with a simple grunt of thanks. Daring had stopped at the top of a dune, pointing out ahead of her and declaring she found something in the distance, before declaratively stomping her hoof into the sand and starting down the dune. The large zebra set a hoof on the sand dune next to where she had and was about to begin making his way down when the sand shifted beneath his weight. With a surprised grunt he slid down the dune, straight past Daring and stumbling as he hit the bottom of the somewhat more solid base. Admittedly, it was a pretty humorous sight. I mean, who wouldn't laugh at a back breakingly giant zebra sliding uncontrollably down a sand dune with a wide eyed look of surprised terror? Xukar shook himself, re-situating his packs and turning to face the rest as they made their treks down in silence. While he wouldn't admit it, he had found the trip down rather enjoyable.

star walks down the dune and sees that there were a hole bunch of snakes around them, he went to each pony (and zebra) individually and whispered about the snakes and the dangers of this species of snakes. he whispered it to them to stop from startling the snakes. for star it was easy to fly over, but not everyone had wings. he looked at the snakes around him and thought about a way to get pass, but sadly his mind was as blank as the desert they've seen so far.

Stifling her laughter from seeing the zebra fall down the dune, Daring pressed on. She had her mind set on finding that treasure and she vowed that she wouldn't rest until she found it! She was so concerned with the treasure that she didn't even noticed all of the snakes around and Star trotting up and whispering something about them. She just assumed that if they left them alone then the snakes would leave them alone.

So after a bit of careful trotting, Daring and her friends found themselves getting ever so closer to the structure. Daring could now identify the structure as some type of temple. It made her eyes widen at the sight of it. Granted it was still a little ways away she couldn't help but contain her excitement. She turned to her friends. "We are so close now! Come on we gotta keep going!" She flapped her wings and waved a hoof and continued to trot towards the temple.

After laughing as the Zebra lost his footing, Sparkle took extra care to manage his speed during his trip down, the gradient was daunting, but using his wings as air breaks he kept a leisurely place as his hooves cut through the fine desert sand. As he reached the bottom however, he soon began frantically flapping as he spotted the mass of snakes gathered at the foot of the dune. He finally took wing and landed a short distance away from the snakes in a tumble, as he pulled his face from the sand and looked up, he saw the towering temple towards the horizon, the sight filled him with awe and determination as he quickly brushed himself off and followed Daring, almost matching her pace.

"Is that what we're headed for?" He gestured towards the distant structure "I've never seen anything like it!"
