Character Summary:

Ever since Gordon was a foal, the world just seemed to have it in for him. It first started with little events, little things that constantly tested his parents' ability to deal with. Little accidents or mishaps that were constantly taxing their patience. But if it's one thing the Freemanes were always known for, it was perseverance even in the face of hardship. As their little Gordon grew, it seemed like the bad luck that plagued them seemed to have followed him. He broke his first tooth when it grew in, and he always seemed to come home with various bumps and bruises.

But Gordon inherited his family's tenacity and he never let the happenstances get to him. True to the Freemane spirit, he pushed on through until things were set right. As he grew, other ponies came to rely on him as the colt that got things done. Even if sometimes events went a little haphazardly (Or a lot haphazardly as a result of circumstances!) somehow, Gordon always won through. As he grew, the significance of events seemed to become more frequent. When they moved to Talonopolis from Fillydelphia, their train broke down and they were forced to make the rest of the trip with all of their belongings on hoof. When they reached town, the house they were to live in accidentally caught fire due to a stray cinder. But they simply pressed on and rebuilt.

When he was in the middle of trying to repair fence around their home that had somehow been torn up by a rogue tornado that had defied explanation, he came to the realization that frequency of events seemed to happen entirely too frequently. It was this realization that this unnatural frequency was about as unusual as it got, and that he had an uncanny knack to always come out on top that his cutie mark appeared.

As Gordon grew, he devoted part of his time trying to determine what had plagued his family with these occurrences. In order to keep his own support and supporting his own family (Who seemed to require a fairly substantial amount of finances to keep the rotten luck they were cursed with at bay!), he took on a job as a steel worker in a nearby industrial foundry. The most bits to be had were working with the molten steel itself, requiring him to wear a special protective armor to protect his pony hide from scorches and burns. Even though the armor was generally only worn when working in the foundry, one of his co-workers had painted his cutie mark symbol on it as a joke, marking it as Gordon's.

Gordon can't handle the hot crucibles with his own bare hooves, so a large steel crowbar is standard issue. He uses this to hook and drag the molten buckets of iron from one place to another down their respective tracks. Even though he's very very good at what he does, he can't help somehow being at the center of industrial accidents. His bosses have noticed this, but even they can't explain why they always seem to be centered around Gordon. Yet, even with this, Gordon seems to be the unique individual who also manages to not only fix the problems when they crop up, but comes out on top even better off than before. Thus recognizing his talent for problem-solving, his bosses have made sure that whenever there's a particularily dangerous task at hand, Gordon is the pony for the job.

The Lambda Symbol:

It was often used on the shields of Spartan warriors, in this regard I felt it had the significance of Gordon shielding others from the effects of whatever downfalls happen to strike. Though this isn't always successful, what also applies is that Lambda also stands for the density of occurrences within a time interval in the theory of Probability. This is why all sorts of events seem to happen around the Freemane family, most notably Gordon. They happen a lot, and his ability to overcome these hardships is what makes it significant. Otherwise, he'd have met his demise early in his life. In Cartography and Navigation, it denotes the longitude of a location, and in this regard can also suggest that he happens to be in the right place at the right time. All these factors together are what I feel make this cutie mark truly significant and descriptive of what makes Gordon Freemane special.

Sooooooooo tempted to app this... for the sole purpose of standing around and STARING AT YOU.

Oh you seriously have no idea. This would be epic. That's all we'd need, would be the entire cast of HL turned into ponies and converted to Equestria. Crossover or no.
