Fet Loch - Home to Real Lassies and Laddies

Fet Loch may not exactly be the most hospitable locale in the Solstice Heights, but those who live here take that fact as a matter of pride. A deep lake within the highlands, Fet Loch is fed by a number of streams and ultimately provides the Quickrun River to the south with its main source of water. A village named for the loch has resided on its shores for generations now, where it has cultivated one of Equestria’s most unique local cultures.

After the Great Nimbusgait Lakes, Fet Loch is the deepest lake in all of Equestria. It’s also certainly the murkiest too, with peat from nearby land clouding the waters here to an extremely low level. These unique conditions allow a small but stable population of strange aquatic creatures to live in the depths of Fet Loch. At least a couple of these can grow to monstrous sizes, but they are also quite docile in comparison to the terrors of the open ocean and so find themselves sought after by tourists.

As for the town of Fet Loch itself, it’s far from the sunniest place within the realm. Stuck between the Solstice Heights and the Eponnine Mountains, the highland settlement finds itself frequently subjected to the disarray of weather forces colliding with the two mountain ranges. Aside from an occasional shower, dense fog manifests itself nearly every morning on the cool moors. Unless a serious thunderstorm tries to develop, the local weather team frankly does not want to waste time and energy dispelling unruly weather; this generally unmoderated climate has helped give rise to the notion of Fet Loch being one of Equestria’s less-tamed locales.

The ponies that live on the shore of Fet Loch and the surrounding uncultivated hills mostly make their living off the raising of sheep; shepherds find the damp highland to be highly suitable for their flocks to graze on, and the village serves as a thriving marketplace for all-important wool. Not surprisingly, it takes a special type of pony to thrive on the moors; somepony who possesses strength of will or doesn’t mind being inconvenienced with unscheduled rainfall. The ponies of the Fet Loch highland are thus a highly-knit community; cultivating their own abrasive accent to celebrate their heritage with and welcoming outsiders to share in their peculiar lifestyle.
