The Saddleveil Plains - A Far-Reaching Sea of Green

One of the most distinctive and largest physical features on the Equestrian map is the lush, green Saddleveil Plains which cover much of southern Equestria. These highly fertile lands are paramount to Equestrian life and agriculture, their great bounty feeding ponies throughout the kingdom. With its abundance of food and land, the plains region has come to support numerous cities, towns and small communities, making it the most populous regions in all of Equestria.

The Saddleveil Plains stretch across south Equestria all the way from the Eponnine Mountains in the east to the Harridan Mountains which form the southern stretch of the border with Aquellia. From west to east, the plains are adjoined to the north by the Painted Pinto Desert, the Everfree Forest, the Whitetail Wood and the Solstice Heights, while the entire region ends at the sea to the south. The vast region is divided by four rivers of note: the powerful Manebrush, which feeds White Calf Bay and supports the city of Fillydelphia; The Galloping River, which supports Baltimare; The Quickrun River, located at the narrowest stretch of plains, on which sits Manehattan; and, furthest east, the Barrelfloat River on which Hoofington rests. The latter three rivers all feed the great Seasaddle Bay, which is critical to maritime industry in Equestria.

All of the plains land is green and grassy, with occasional trees decorating the landscape. Weather on the plains is warm and generally pleasant most of the year, allowing for perfect growing conditions throughout most of the region. The westernmost part of the region, across the Manebrush, is the exception, the plains being green but far drier and less fecund. It is because of this, that this region has not seen much development until recently with the growth of frontier towns like Appeloosa and Dodge Junction. However, while only recently have ponies taken a renewed interest in this land, the western Saddleveil Plains have long been part of the grazing and stampeding grounds of the buffalo tribes who are still common on the plains.

Containing in its boundaries some of the most populous cities in Equestria, such as Manehattan, as well as small but valuable farming communities like Ponyville, the plains region is both varied and productive. Ponies from all walks of lives can be found in the cities here, while the open plains of the region are mostly the domain of farmers. The adjacent shore land has become a great draw to the region for its beautiful sandy beaches. The Bridleback Shore between the Suntrot and Seasaddle bays is of particular note, for its size, as well as for the mysterious ruins that stick out from the sand and sea.
