There are brilliant dynamic pastel like colours of green, purple, blue and pink, which seem to lighten as they reach the tips of the mane and tail as it flows. Her mane flows majestically with an almost regal air about it.

Residence: Canterlot Castle

Occupation: Co-Ruler of Equestria, Guardian and bringer of day.

Cutie Mark: A sun with eight wavy rays emanating from the center.

Celestia didn't get her cutie mark from raising the sun for the first time as you’d expect. Such a feat for a young filly would be far fetched to say the least. Instead she got it when she demonstrated her innate leadership abilities and ability to bring balance and light to all ponykind. Many ponies remember the story of Hearth’s Warming Eve, and how the three clans came together in the end in mutual harmony. That however was not the end of the story.

Though the leaders and their assistants had made peace and tried to bring it forth to all pony kind, like all change, it isn't always easy. There were disheartened ponies who wished to prevent the unification of the three clans, and would often prevent other ponies from doing their job, and to blame it on clans. It reached the point where the unicorns finally refused to raise the sun, and thus a community meeting was called of all three, now unified clans.

During this community meeting where the leaders tried desperately to make all ponyfolk see reason, it seemed to be a fruitless endeavor, eventually threatening to punish those responsible for their acts against their new found peace. This was the story until Celestia, a older filly at the time stood up. She and her younger sister were inherently different, possessing traits of all three pony kinds. And so she decided to make a stand, and shed a new perspective.

She only said a few simple words. Encouraging a common camaraderie, suggesting that punishment wasn't the way. She said that punishment would only serve to further segregate. She and her sister were the only pony without a place, because they were unique in having traits belonging to all three clans. She asked if they were to be outcast because of their uniqueness and hated by all. And asked why all ponyfolk couldn't step into the light and join harmoniously. Moved by the filly’s words, the unicorns joined together and raised the sun. When the sun was raised by the unicorns she noticed a light upon her flank and saw that her cutie mark had appeared. She realized then that it was her destiny to unite the ponyfolk in mutual harmony.

History: Celestia was extremely close to her sister Luna as she was growing up. They did most everything together, not forgetting about their friends. Life was generally normal with the three tribes living in a state of mutual need and trading. This was of course until the winter storms started that tore the three tribes apart. Celestia and Luna were never sure what side they were on as they were both different from everypony else. When the leaders of the three tribes came to an accord it looked as though it was over, until the moment when some ponies didn't like the new found camaraderie and began making trouble for all. When the meeting was held and Celestia spoke for her cutie mark everything seemingly went back to normal. The leaders even decided to take the image of the two sisters and use them to create what would become the Equestrian flag, to symbolize love and harmony between all ponyfolk no matter their race.

After that incident the three tribes found a certain amount of peace and harmony as Equestria prospered. Celestia grew up into a young mare. As she and her sister grew up they discovered they each had an uncanny connection to the celestial bodies and were able to move them more easily than several unicorns as were previously needed. Celestia found she was able to move the sun without the aid of others. And so she became the shepherd of the sun. This relaxed the three tribes further as they no longer needed to trade and barter and just accepted their duties to help one and other. The two sisters quickly became a beacon of hope and harmony among Equestrians. Celestia brought forth the sun and Luna brought forth the moon.

As time passed Celestia notice that a dark shadow was looming from the north. They reached the northern area adorned in crystals they found that a unicorn possessing dark magic known as King Sombra spreading his darkness across all of Equestria. The two sisters used their combined magical powers against this foe and banished him from the world, unfortunately with his last strength he took the great Crystal Empire with him. The success of vanquishing the great evil made Celestia quite pleased, but she was sad that its brilliant light and magic could not shine across Equestria as it once had. She hoped that one day it would return and that it’s brilliance could be shared by all.

Upon their return to their home they found the ponies in misery and everything in chaos. While they were saving the world from darkness the spirit of chaos, Discord, seized the opportunity to gain control over Equestria. A crafty one Discord tricked them into becoming resentful of each other to prevent them from effectively opposing him. Finding a drawing her sister did of them as fillies her heart began to swell and showing it to Luna allowed them to mend the rift that had come between them, at least for the time, and they were able to unite to defeat Discord, or so they tried. Unfortunately Discord’s powers of control proved too much for the sisters, and they had to think of another way. Celestia had heard of the legendary Tree of Harmony and the two sisters sought it out in the hopes that it would hold the key to Discord’s defeat. There they obtained the Elements of Harmony and were able to use them to set Discord in stone. The damage that Discord did ran deep between the sisters. Celestia was able to control the darkness that Discord planted in her heart and eventually drive it out completely, but she noticed that something was different about her dear sister. She tried talking to Luna often about her feelings, but Luna became resentful that the ponies relished in the Sun and shunned the night. Celestia, confused by her sisters great change in demeanor.

Eventually it came to an impasse and Luna raised the moon to block Celestia’s sun. Celestia pleaded with her sister, knowing this was not truly the sister she knew and loved. To Celestia’s great dismay her sister then became a wicked mare of darkness. They had a great clash and her sister, now Nightmare Moon, nearly defeated her. Reluctantly, Celestia opened the chamber containing the Elements of Harmony and used them against her own sister. With tears in her eyes she turned the great power of the elements onto her sister and banished her to the moon.

Equestria maintained a peace for a thousand years, but Celestia still felt guilty of what happened with her sister, and could never fully forgive herself. She always tried to not allow her feelings to interfere with her duties to the people she had come to lead with her sister, she continued to be a beacon of hope and took control of both the sun and moon in her sister’s absence. Over time the pain dulled, but she never forgot. The Summer Sun Celebration became a constant reminder of her having to banish her dear sister, and it was the hardest of days for her, as it was the day she did what she had to do to protect her subjects from darkness eternal.

Celestia kept her eye on a particular filly whom she sensed had great arcane potential. When she tried for entrance into the School Celestia had founded for those gifted in the arcane arts, the filly named Twilight Sparkle unleashed a great wave of magic. Celestia was able to calm her down and allow her to regain control. At that moment she knew her impressions were correct of this filly and took her on as an apprentice.

Celestia trained her using gentle teachings never being direct, much like she was with most of her subjects. She never wanted to force anyone but rather give them the opportunity to shine. Eventually she would test her pupil with a task that she could not personally involve herself with, the return of her sister who had become Nightmare Moon. For the sake of allowing her pupil to make friends and gain full control of the Elements of Harmony which she had broken connection with when she imprisoned her sister, she sent Twilight to take care of preparations in Ponyville where the representations of the elements lived. Upon the return of Nightmare Moon she allowed herself to be captured to allow her pupil to be able to take care of the problem herself. After her pupil and friends had cleansed her sister of the darkness in her heart, she was finally reunited with her long lost sister after a thousand years, vowing to once again be friends as they had been for so long in the past.

Celestia did that several other times, allowing her pupil to take control to teach her leadership, friendship and humility. She didn't leave everything to her pupil of course. There were many things that she took care of herself, like a parasprite infestation in Fillydelphia. Always making decisions using foresight and her vast experience from ruling for a thousand years.

Then her old foe, Discord, reappeared. Knowing that Celestia no longer had control over the Elements of Harmony he went after her pupil and friends. She believed in them, but knew he was crafty and would do the same to them as he did to her and Luna, so as a precaution she sent all the letters that Twilight had sent her to remind her of the friendship they had, which would allow them to utilize the Elements of Harmony as she and Luna had done a thousand years before that. Once set into stone once again, peace was once again restored to Equestria again, until a threat was made to Canterlot when her adoptive niece Princess Cadence and the captain of the Royal Guard Shining Armor were to be married.

Unbeknownst to her an infiltration had begun already. The changeling queen, Chrysalis had entered the city and began feeding on Shining Armor. Her pupil vehemently tried to convince others of Princess’s Cadence’s evil, but even Celestia was blind to the changeling. When she was proved wrong she went horn to horn with Queen Chrysalis and lost, sending her pupil and friends to gather the Elements of Harmony. They too were captured. Ensnared she thought all was lost when Cadence and Shining Armor’s love repelled the love devouring creatures. She praised her pupil for following her instincts and bringing the truth to light.

When the Crystal Empire was returning, which she did not know much about, she decided it was a prime opportunity to test her pupil and sent her to restore the Crystal Empire to it’s former state, impressing upon her the direness of the situation, recounting how darkness in the Empire could affect all of Equestria. When successful she decided it was time to prepare the final two tasks for her pupil reforming Discord and completing Star Swirl the Bearded’s unfinished spell. When she completed the tasks, Celestia was proud to crown her once pupil Equestria’s newest Princess.

Character Summary: Many see Celestia as merely the primary ruler of Equestria and the princess of the day. While these things are true, it is not what she chooses to see herself as. She is not just a princess, in fact she prefers to not act as such outside of professional necessity. She is a normal pony with a great sense of humor.

At her core she is wise and just, which came from her long life and experiences on the throne of Equestria. She always had a talent for seeing the bright side of a situation of bringing light to ponies, both literally and metaphorically. Leading them with grace and wisdom. With her long life she has learned how to be patient allowing things to come and never rushing into things. She thinks things out and plans everything for the best. There are two sides to her personality, those which she chooses to show the public and what she considers to be her true self.

In a professional setting she is always dignified and proper. She carries herself with an air of royalty only befitting a princess. She rules Equestria with foresight and the knowledge and experience she gained over a thousand years of rule. She prefers not to use her great arcane abilities to do anything though. If something must be done she prefers to allow ponies to solve problems themselves or doing it with the help of others, merely acting as a guide or mentor whenever possible. She does what is needed and joins whenever possible, however she knows being a leader is more than doing things for others but teaching ponies how to do things for themselves. For the most part she succeeds, only intervening when absolutely necessary. She tries to be an impartial and fair force for Equestira, maintaining the peace that she has worked so hard to maintain for a thousand years.

All that is really not Celestia though, that is her professional, royal self. If anything that is her job persona, which she prefers to step out of as much as possible. She is actually a rather laid back mare with a bit of a mischievous streak, much like her pet Phoenix, Philomina. If people are treating her too much like royalty, she’ll organize a way to spice things up to make things more interesting or even harmlessly prank a pony or two. Naturally she also can take a joke if she herself is on the receiving end. Being able to laugh with the best of them. She doesn’t always prank ponies, but she always does it in good fun. She sees the best in every situation when it comes to those closest to her, even when things seem bad, she knows that the right people can make any situation better. She also has a bit of a sweet tooth, especially for cake which has lead to a few less than flattering pictures.

Celestia’s interests are vast and diverse. Her most obvious interest is in the arcane, which is part of the reason why she founded Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns. Not only is she interested in learning the arcane, but also mentoring young fillies and colts in the ways and knowledge of the arcane as well as through their life experiences. She also enjoys all kinds of music, from chamber music to new popular music, she enjoys it all to an extent. She knows all music has a purpose, after all, as lovely and relaxing as chamber music is, it isn't as fun to listen to as popular music. She enjoys fine art, especially those with an extra creative flair that can show off ponies’ inner selves. Then there are books and reading. Though as much as she loves books, what she loves reading most are letters from her subjects, especially those sent to her by her pupil and friends on the magic of friendship. Which would lead to her greatest interest which is in her subjects, taking note of what they might need whether it be land, general aid or guidance. She wishes to learn all she can about her subjects seeking to remember each pony she meets by name.
