“Thank you for your generous purchase, ma’am!” Another successful sale for Flakey Shards, selling an entire bunch of lovely discounted gemstones made right in the Crystal Empire to an old lady. That granny could now return back to Equestria with Imperial Crystal crystals for her entire family. Just one thing though about Flakey’s stall by the train station........ “Ha ha… suckerrrr!” snickered Miss Shards under her breath.

All those crystals the little filly sold were phonies, refashioned from stained glass into the shape of crystals. Grinning devilishly as she checked over her poorly-earned bits, Flakey kept a close eye out to see who looked like they’d be an easy mark. Preferably, an unknown Equestrian who wouldn’t be streetwise enough to question the authenticity of the crystal filly’s fraudulent products.....

The tiny colt stepped off the train, glancing around curiously, eyes widening at the sights around him, yet deep in his bones there was almost a instant connection with this place... like somewhere deep deep in his roots he was connected? That lovely poetic sentiment was ruined as he headed over to the stand nearby, snickering as he put his hooves on it, glancing at all of the fake bits of shiny glass.

"Are you a ..con artist like my uncle Roulette?" he asked, The GoLuckies had a history of being scammers and swindlers, though not malicious it was probably hard for those that had to deal with their shenanigans..

Look at this; some cocky colt felt confidence that Flakey Shard's set-up was all phony. There wasn't any way that some lame kid from Equestria really knew how to detect a con artist, the arrogant filly assumed. But Flakey felt she had a good plan for dealing with the new customer. "Con artist?" the little crystal pony faked a naive innocence, batting her eyelashes at the colt to increase her charm factor; "I'm afraid I don't know what a con artist is. I do know though that you're pretty cute for a colt, tee he he!" Flattery; ponykind's greatest weapon. Dangerous in the hooves of Miss Shards.

Flattery was probably lost on the Colt who moved to prod one of the "crystals" "But this is glass, not crystal, did you not know you were selling glass?" Reno did want to give her a shadow of a doubt, but that look on her face reminded him of one of his uncles "My uncle runs a big casino, an he's a "con artist" it's when ya trick ponies into thinking they are gettin somethin good but it's really rubbish! He's really rich because of it" Reno beamed at Flakey, tilting his head"What's your name? I'm Reno GoLucky, but you can call me Reno!" Offering the crystal filly his hoof.

Flakey's features darkened once more as the boy proceeded to identify her gems as fake. Oh, ohhhhhhh the sheer nerve of this twerp! Reno's only saving grace now was that he hadn't threatened tattle telling yet, but that was it. He needed to be shown who's boss! Seizing Reno's extended foreleg, the furious crystal pony pulled the tourist closer so that they were face-to-face; "My name's Flakey Shards... and don't you DARE tell anyone about my gems." There wasn't any use denying Flakey's deceit now, so all she could do now was threaten Reno into silence.

"How's a young filly like you supposed to know you were selling glass anyways?" He asked, raising an eyebrow "Seems to me that even if I tattled , you could just sniff and say that somebody gave them to you and told you a lie?" He pulled away "Nice to meet you Flakey! And I'm not gonna tell nopony, because if they can't tell then I ain't gonna point it out to em" He shook his head a few times, putting his hoof on the table again, prodding one of the pieces "They are really pretty anyways"

What was more scary; the fact that this mere kid saw through Flakey Shards's deception so easily, or was it how he could act as if everything was fine and dandy, with no foal foul play in sight? Still though, Reno had the good sense to not be a tattle teller, so to Flakey, the tiny colt was not so totally lame like a couple of the crystal filly's own schoolmates. Those two fools were outright insufferable by comparison. Vigor reentered Flakey's psyche as Reno complemented her on her craftsmareship. Ponies may say what they will about the filly's desire to cheat and deceive, but no matter what, her skills with her hooves should never be in question. "Of course they're pretty!" Miss Shards raised her head up high and pointed at herself; "I made them. I suppose you've got an equally amazing talent, Mr. GoLucky?"

He kept looking at the crystals, and spotted a pretty one that his Dad would love, and moved to count out bits from his bit bag and put them on the table for Flakey "Well I'll take this one" Pulling it over, at her comment about talents he glanced down at his flank "Ah huh! I'ma cowboy! Well gonna be, I can lasso with th' best of em!" He offered cheerfully..The boy's skills with a rope was not to be questioned, AppleJack a long time ago had unlocked a wonderful talent that had brought a destiny to life! Reno was free of the "GoLucky Curse" as most of his family had cutie marks related to gambling, or swindling...

"Yeah yeah, that's great Reno," Flakey Shards dismissively congratulated the colt for his special talent, her eyes more focused on the bits he laid down on the table for his purchase. Kinda odd how this kid wanted to buy something for his dad anyway, even though he already discovered the secret of the phony gems. Maybe he just didn't have the money for real Crystal Empire jewels? Meh, good enough explanation. Hoofing Reno's desired gift over, Flakey gave her customer a wink and another sickeningly sweet smile; "Thank you for shopping here today, cutie! Come back again sooooooon!!!"
