It would appear that Trixie uses magic to create smoke to cover her escape on two separate occasions; I'd assume she also uses smoke in her performances. I always throught she used smoke bombs.I would say yes that unicorns can create smoke as an illusion type of magic.Presumably *anything* can be made as an illusion (provided they unicorn has the skill needed) since it's not real and just an image created to trick the eye (of course when you get into multi-sense illusions that trick your eyes, ears, nose, etc, the problem would compound, but still... seems to me like it would be possible. It probably isn't difficult, and even conjuring real smoke probably wouldn't be difficult if it is somehow related to their special talent. However, keep in mind that large scale magic is taxing on anypony. So even if they are able to create smoke for a building, them creating smoke and realistic illusionary fire at the same time might be too taxing on the pony. So just be mindful of how your magic would come off to others, and use the show as a guide. Most ponies cannot do what Twilight does.
