History: Snails was born to two earth pony parents who own a lettuce farm outside of Ponyville. His parents were very surprised to have a unicorn foal, but very early on they started trying to teach him so that he'd have a chance to be more than just a farmer, if he wanted. However, it soon became apparent that Snails was a bit slow. Not stupid, but it took the colt more time to figure things out than other foals his age.

When he first started going to school, he fell behind the other foals, and often needed extra instruction to catch up. Because of this, he became a target for school bullies like Diamond Tiara. He did find one close friend in Snips. The two colts practiced their magic together, since Snails' parents couldn't help much.

Snails didn't really show much in the way of a talent. Other than his growing fascination with magic, not much seemed to interest him. Until one summer, his parents' farm was over-run by an infestation of snails. The farmers tried in desperation to get rid of the mollusks, to no avail. Snails, however, became fascinated by the creatures. He'd stare at the snails for hours, watching them move and eat. They were slow, kind of like him, but they were very good at what they did. He became determined that he couldn't let his parents kill off the creatures, so he had to find another way. He started going to the library in Ponyville, reading everything he could about mollusks in his slow, methodical way. He also

found himself drawn to books about insects and arachnids, and became fascinated by them as well.

On the farm, his parents had reached the end of their rope, and were on the verge of hiring a professional exterminator. Snails begged them to let him try first. During his reading, he'd found a repellant that would drive off the snails without killing them. The repellant proved very effective, and the snails began to leave the fields. As Snails watched the molusks leave, slowly but surely, he got his cutie mark. It represents his love of bugs and mollusks of all kinds, as well as his determination to get things done the right way, even if it takes a while.

That's not to say he doesn't get ahead of himself, particularly when Snips is involved. When a traveling Magician named Trixie came to town, the two colts were fascinated by the performer. Trixie represented everything that a powerful unicorn magician should be; brash, loud, and flashy. When Spike and the ponies in town tried to say that Trixie was a fake, the two colts were determined to prove them wrong. So, they came up with a crazy idea to lure an Ursa Major into the town for the "Great and Powerful Trixie" to take care of. When the idea backfired, Twilight Sparkle, the town's librarian, single hoofedly stopped the creature's rampage and sent the Ursa Minor back to it home. Snails' ideas about what a

powerful unicorn should be like changed a lot that day.

Character Summary: Many ponies make the mistake in thinking that Snails is stupid. In fact, it just takes him a while to pick up on new ideas. At the same time, though, he can let his excitement get the better of him, and he will do and say things without thinking. He shares his friend Snips' desire to be in the spotlight. Whether through their own magic show, or just getting into the student newspaper. He is generally very cheerful. Though he has developed a hard shell against being teased, it still makes him depressed when ponies dismiss him as stupid. When Snails gets to talking about entomology, he can rattle off facts and figures about his favorite subject rapidly, but he has a tendency to go into details that either bore ponies, or make them rather uncomfortable if they don't like bugs.
