Sugar Cube Corner - Apple Cake Pie and Co. (Open)

It was a very lazy, very hot summer afternoon at Sugar Cube Corner. Pinkie Pie set about her business, making the bakery even warmer than usual with her wide gamut production of baked goodies: hayseed brownies, cookies, cakes, and of course plenty of pies, rife with the finest summer berries Ponyville Markets had to offer. The overzealous, boundless pink mare was doing triple duty today -- she was not only foalsitting Pumpkin Cake (who was hanging out on a rug by the stairs leading up to the living quarters, happily sucking on her little beige hoof while her parents and Pound were out and about), she was planning on having Apple Bloom over to test a few recipes while she was handling the evening bakery production.

It was decided beforehoof that "recipe tester" sounded way better to a young filly than "foalsitting." It was no white lie, either: Pinkie Pie was quite interested in trying out some new things with the precious, bright young filly. It was known.

"Whew! It's like a bazillion, jillion, fazillion degrees in here!" Pinkie panted, sliding a hot tray of pies onto a cooling rack. Pumpkin nodded in agreement, spreading out on the carpet like nopony's business.

Pinkie's pink ears perked up as she heard the front door of the bakery jingle...

Glimmer hopped with glee as she headed to Sugar Cube Corner. Her brother, Razor, lagged behind and seemed rather worried.

"D-Do we have to go in there....ain't there a candy place around town? And besides didn't mom say your not allowed sweets due to the incident last week?" He said, looking up at the gingerbread styled shop with dread.

Glimmer stopped in mid hop, using her wings to keep her in the air and looked at her brother funny, "Why are you so scared? Sugar Cube Corner is awesome and besides mom said I'm not allowed candy....but she didn't anything about cupcakes."

Razor groaned, faceclawing. Leave it to Glimmer to find a loophole.

"Anyway..who said I was scared. I'm not scared." Razor said, though he gulped as they grew closer.

Glimmer rolled her eyes, "Riiiiight. Whatever you say." Still she wondered why he was so shaken up. Was it nerves? Maybe he was scared cause he was nervous?

But what would make him nervous about Sugarcube Corner?

Suddenly she got it and she couldn't help but giggle, "Razor...are you scared of Pinkie?"

Razor looked around left and right and above and below, before looking at his sister and saying, "What? Hahahaha, what gave you that idea? I'm not scared of a pink pony with a sugar addiction. The simple thought is ridiculous."

Glimmer smirked, "So....then why don't you go in first. Besides its nice for a gentlegriffon to hold the door open for a lady."

Razor went tensed, and looked at the door with slitted eyes, "I...that....fine." He said, though he was shaking as he approached.

'Though I doubt a kid counts as  a lady.' He thought bitterly as he pushed open the door, stepped in and held it open. Though he was tense as a tree as he entered into the domain of doom.

Sweet Surprise wandered through Ponyville as sweat poured down her body. The chocolate hued earth pony was planning on visiting the town for the day to get a new inspiration for her candies but the intense heat put aside those plans in a hurry! It was like Deja Vu for her as she remembered only a short time ago facing a heat wave that combined with a power outage melted all her candy. Thanks to quick thinking but her new-found friends she was able to save the candy and her business. But now things were getting dire as she slowly made her way down the street.

"Must... find... coolness," she said as her eyes became fixed on a building that looked like a gingerbread house! It reminded her of her own candy shop in Canterlot, only hers looked like it was made of candy rather than gingerbread. For a moment she thought it was a mirage but she trudged on as two griffon entered in. She was about ready to step through the door into the whimsical place when the female griffon closed it behind her before Sweet could stop.

Bam!

Her face hit the door like a bird hitting a window!

"Owie!" she said rubbing her muzzle as she felt her body getting more dizzy. She pulled open the door and in one fluid motion dove inside, rolled into a ball, and collapsed on the floor!

"Hi everyppony," she said faintly not realizing about the two griffons, "I'll be with you in a moment. Just have to check to make sure I'm not melting."

"Whew!" Spitfire wiped a hoof across her brow as she landed in Ponyville. "Gotta get cool! It's so hot today!" The Captain had just finished a scorcher of practice with the Wonderbolts and was looking for some way to cool off. It wasn't her usual practice but she had opted to shed her flying suit for her time in Ponyville.

The mare trotted down one of the quaint town's small streets, headed for a bakery she had a fondness for. Perhaps she could grab a quick treat and head down to the swimming pond? It was a bakery and if it was in full swing, it would most likely be even hotter inside the gingerbread building than outside. "It's worth it for a sugar cookie. Just get in and get out!" Spitfire narrowed her eyes in determination. She was going in!

BAM!

A brown earth pony slammed into the closed door!

"Ouch! That must have hurt!"

Spitfire followed her inside where the earth pony promptly fell into a heap on the ground. The Captain trotted to her side, getting down lower to inspect the poor mare. Spitfire took her role as the leader of an offshoot of the Equestrian military seriously. If somepony was hurt, she would be there to aid them as best she could!

"Are you ok miss?"

Wind Walker flew through the happy little village of Ponyville. She was on patrol for DANGER! After a few unique encounters over the last few weeks, the little filly decided she would seek out any foreign invaders and give them a good thrashing before they caused any trouble! Flying Bears! Dragons! Magical evil centaurs! Didn’t mater! She would whoop ‘em until they promised to be good. And then she would whoop 'em again, because they were probably lying.

So far, her ‘patrol’ was rather uneventful, but then....out of nowhere came a wonderful scent.

“Oooh! Something smells good!”

It did not even take her a second before she knew where the trail was leading her to.

“Sugarcube Corner!”, the filly shouted as she neared the beloved building. The happy little house and business of the Cake family looked good enough to eat! But as sweet as it looked, it was still mostly concrete, wood and plaster. Nothing tasty at all. She had tested one of the walls before with her tongue. That had not been a very good idea.

Nothing like a nice treat after keeping Ponyville safe. She would pop in and buy a freshly made cupcake. Hopefully somepony will be there this time!

After her hooves hit the ground and her wings found their resting spots, she entered the bakery.

Both Razor and Glimmer were there! She waved at the pair, “Hey guys!”, she yelped.

There was also her second favorite Wonderbolt, Captain Spitfire! And she was standing by a mare who didn’t look so well. Considering it was a little on the hot side, she may have been suffering from heatstroke. Thankfully the poor pony was in good hooves. All new R.E.A recruits needed to be trained and certified in field first aid.  Before Wind would order anything for herself, she would make sure to get the poor girl some cold water. Maybe whoever was behind the counter could get her a glass. And while it wasn’t nice to cut ahead, this was very important!

“Hey! Is there anybody here today? Mrs Cake? Miss Pinke Pie? Somepony needs a little glass of water please!”, she squeaked.

Well this escalated quickly. Unfortunately, with the ovens blasting out delicious product after delicious product, it was quite muggy inside the shop, albeit full of sweet-smelling goodies! Caramel! Chocolate! Berries! Pinkie Pie waved enthusiastically as the veritable menagerie entered the shop. Even a Wonderbolt was in attendance! She nearly scrambled over the counter as the griffon siblings entered. She was quite found of Razor and his sister. She grinned widely, waving frantically. "Ooooo hiiiiii! Oh Razor, you look like somepony just stole your tail! It looks like you need some sugar, stat!" She brandished a cupcake happily, stuffing it in the poor griffon's face with aplomb. She felt something slide across the carpet in front of her. She blinked, looking down. "Oh hey there, Sweet Surprise! Are you down there playing with Pumpkin?!"

Pumpkin Cake didn't really want to move, it was so hot. She did manage to look up to see her new friend on the carpet with her. She opened her little mouth and clamped on Sweet's nose. "No no Pumpkin, she's not food! She's a friend!"

More friends seemed to pour into the shop, adding to the stuffiness quickly. This was no surprise to Pinkie, this was prime shop hour.  "Oh hey there, Spitfire! Are you going for the sugar cookie today or did'ja wanna try one of our huckleberry 'n hay pies?! Eek, oh, hi there! Wind Walker, right?! Welcome to the shop! Water?! Oh sure, I've got lots of water! Lemonade too. Oh, and hot chocolate! It would be silly to have hot chocolate on a day like today, though! Hoo! Oh, what about cold chocolate? But wouldn't that just make it chocolate milk? Ah, what about lemonade? I like to put mint in mine!"

She looked down at Sweet Surprise. "Er...did'ja want something to drink? If you do I have to get Pumpkin off your nose first!"

Apple Bloom was more excited than a fat foal with cake, which was close to appropriate since she was heading to Sugarcube Corner today. She was a big pony who wanted some big pony tasks and was more than capable of handling big pony responsibility. Why, just the other day she managed to tie down all the cider in the cellar in less than ten minutes! If that wasn't the peak of filly efficiency, she didn't know what was. Ponies had to be impressed with how responsible she was now, right? She helped Applejack with the pie and apple sales so much better than she used to, and her grades were even improving. You couldn't ask for a more reliable filly in all off Ponyville- heck, all of Equestria for that matter! So today- well, today Apple Bloom was excited because somepony was finally gonna act like Apple Bloom was a big pony after so much time proving it!

Pinkie Pie had asked her to come by Sugarcube Corner and help her out taste test some new recipes! That was a super serious job! Sugarcube Corner was the cornerstone of the tasty treat industry in Ponyville which was the most important thing to any good little filly. Recipe taster was game and Apple Bloom was the name..umm...of the pony playing the game! Yeah! Before she could go there though she had other things to attend to. Chires at the farm were never ending- feeding chickens, cleaning the pig pens, helping fix a hinge on a broken door- ya know, all the simple stuff. Doing it in the hot sun was one thing, but today was an entirely different matter all together. It was blazing! Celestia musta set the sun a lot closer tan usual. She was shocked the trees didn't catch on fire all spontaneous like.

In any case, Apple Bloom made sure to hurry right on over to Sugarcube Corner immediately after sprucing herself up. 'Course that didn't mean much and she might not have done the best job, but she was too excited to really care. Today was the day of days. Pinkie Pie was the mare of mares. Today's recipes were the recipes of a greater victory and Apple Bloom was excited to taste it all. She galloped from her farm to not too far from the front door of Sugarcube Corner, slowing into a determined and bouncy trot as she neared it. She could see ponies inside from the windows and could hear a certain amount of congealed chaos, but no matter. Apple Bloom was here to make everything all better! She gayly opened the door and trotted inside, hopping over the collapsed Sweet Surprise with a smile and a wave to the thunderbolt and a snazzy snap-off salute to the griffons before worming her way closer to Pinkie. “Howdy cuz! Ah got here as fast as Ah could, chores dependin'!”

Razor waited till his sister was in, but before he could close the door slowly.....

...she appeared.

Pinkie. And in her usual wild antic behavior. Her appearance made him jump that he let the door go, and by the bump he heard causing it to slam into somepony's face. But all he could focus on was Pinkie.

Glimmer on the other claw was delighted to see Pinkie, friend and hug mentor.

"Hi Pinkie" Glimmer said, running over to the pony and giving her the biggest, tightest griffon hug she could and purring in delight, "I've been practicing my hugging." She squeezed again, flapping her wings as hard as she could to try to give a little lift.

Razor gulped, "H-Hi Pink-gaaahhhhh" Of course before he could say a word, Pinkie shoved her hoof into his mouth and deposited a whole cupcake, causing him to gag and choke as his beak slammed shut when the hoof was gone, and his cheeks bulging from the cupcake.

With a deep gulp, swallowing the whole cupcake with a pained expression, Razor gasped for air and placed his claws to his throat, "Aaaaghhh! Stop putting random things into my mouth!" He rubbed at his throat, sore from having to swallow a whole sweet. He couldn't help but shiver in horror at the feeling of sugar and fat messing up his lithe body.

When the door opened again, Razor caught sight of somepony diving in and he saw a mare roll in and collapse. He blinked and took a step back to give himself space from the mare, and especially Pinkie.

"Uh....don't melt then." He said to the mare, frankly he didn't think it was that hot, and noticed others coming in. A yellow and orange maned Pegasus, and two fillies. One which he recognized. As did Glimmer.

"Windy!" Glimmer shouted, leaping from Pinkie and tackling her friend into a hug. She nuzzed her feathery head up to Wind Walker's neck, her purple bow which she wore today tickling her friends nose, as she purred in delight, "I missed you. How have you been?"

Razor couldn't help but smirk seeing his sisters antics and went to greet Wind Walker as well.

"Hey there short stuff. Been practicing your flying since we last met? How long it been, you look bigger." He said, and ruffled Wind's mane a bit.

Sweets were…not really his forte.

Oh sure, he was a fan of the random baked good as much as the next pony. Milkshakes, malts, smoothies - all that jazz. It was an especially refreshing treat to head inside a cafe on a hot, summer's day, and order something sugary sweet and ice cold, let it melt onto his hooves as he tried to eat it up as fast as possible. Hay, days like that were prefect for lounging around inside a nicely cooled cafe, whether he was sipping tea or stuffing face.

But bulk buying sweets just for the sake of having them? Nu-uh.

Which is why Inkbrand felt just a tiny bit…not so much awkward, a bit more resigned…as he strolled through the streets of Ponyville, idly humming under his breath. His recent stint as a temporary and reluctant foalsitter had made him much more aware of necessary materials that anypony needed to have under hoof at any given moment - including a steady supply of bribe material. Namely, sweet stuff, sweet enough for a foal to lose all their foal teeth after a single bite. It wasn't like he was planning on inviting a slew of foals into his Manehatten apartment anytime soon, but considering how woefully ill-equipped he'd been to successfully tempt and bribe youngins into doing his bidding during that time, well… It never hurt to have a little extra incentive.

And besides. Mares went crazy for sweet things, too. It was just logic.

Logic or not though, it'd be a little difficult to get said sweets if all the customers in bucking Equestria hadn't decided to crowd around just inside the shop's entrance.

"Eh?" Inkbrand huffed, feeling a spike of irritation sweep through him as he was immediately stopped in his tracks after pushing through the doorway. How could there possibly be this many ponies looking for sweets at this time of day? Never mind that this time of day was pretty much prime time for shops. He had places to be! Maybe he could save time by heading to Sweet Apple Acres…but he didn't want everything to be apple based. Besides, there was no telling if any of the Apple family were available to help him out, or if they even had enough goods prepared.

And doubly besides. Sugar Cube Corner was supposedly the best bakery in town.

The brief irritation he felt however, was soon swept away as Inkbrand took the time to realize exactly what was causing the miniature carriage pile-up right in the entranceway. A brown Earth Pony seemed to have collapsed right on the floor, and a few others were milling around, seemingly attempting to check up on her. They included a yellow and orange Pegasus and an almost violently pink Earth Pony mare - plus a cute little foal that was currently trying her hardest to ingest the mare's snout, causing Inkbrand's lips to twitch upwards.

"Pretty sure all the tasty stuff is on the counter, not the floor," the tattoo-clad stallion drawled as he stepped forward, bypassing the others to scoop one hoof under the brown Earth Pony's elbow in an attempt to haul her back to her hooves. "Though if floor flavor is your thing, don't let me stop 'ya."

Thankfully Sweet Surprise didn't melt, but nonetheless she still felt very drained from the heat outside. Thankfully the store, although still warm, was a welcome relief and saved her from not passing out. Before she could get up, she heard a concerned voice.

"Are you ok miss?"

Looking up brought her face to face with Spitfire, captain of the Wonderbolts. The chocolate mare knew who she was just as many ponies in Canterlot did when seeing one of their shows. But surely this wasn't the Spitfire? Maybe it was somepony that looked her or that the heat was playing tricks with her brain again. What if there was no Spitfire talking to her? She'd be talking to air! More voices though joined the fray, including Pinkie Pie, a filly asking for a glass of water, a cute foal that clamped down on her nose, and a stallion that graciously helped tried helping her to her hooves.

"Thanks everypony," she said looking around at the attention while the cute foal was still dangling from her nose, "Didn't think I'd make an entrance like that. Honestly I know how doors work, well except that one time when I was in Manehattan and got caught in the revolving door. Hi there Pinkie! Long time no see. A water would be great. Guess then heat was worse than I thought. I felt like I was going to melt. Uh oh, the fudge!"

The mare reached into a saddle bag that made a strange sloshing sound as she felt around, occasionally spilling drops of water. Suddenly her eyes went wide as she pulled out her hoof, revealing it covered in melted fudge.

"Awww... I was saving that! Oh well, can't waste it. Hey Pinkie, can this cute foal try some fudge?"

While trying to solve that problem, Sweet remembered the stallion who helped her up mentioned about the floor not being edible, which she giggled a little.

"Well of course the floor isn't tasty, except when somepony drops something there but then you have to factor in the three second rule. Or  is it five? Dirt isn't tasty either unless it's actually crumbled cookies with ice cream and gummy worms! Oh and thanks for helping me up! You're a really caring stallion!

So many ponies helped her that she hoped she got them all, her attention turning towards a filly who was there.

"Thanks for your concern. Guess you weren't expecting to play the hero coming here, huh?"

She then realized that Spitfire was perhaps not a mirage but really there.

"Oh wow, nice to meet you Spitfire! Have to say it's always nice meeting a new face, even though I think everypony recognizes you!"

"Oh wow, nice to meet you Spitfire! Have to say it's always nice meeting a new face, even though I think everypony recognizes you!"

The mare backed off a couple paces once she was sure the chocolate colored mare was going to be fine. One never knew when a dangerous situation might arise when it was so hot outside! She let the grey earth pony help her back up to her hooves. Really it would have been best to check in for any possible injuries first but he was already helping her and why stop him? Spitfire wiped a hoof across her brow again. She was surprised to see so many ponies packing into the place when it was so darn hot!

"Nice to meet you too... Sweet Surprise?" She guessed that was her name since it seemed that's what Pinkie had called her. She also nodded to the grey pony. "Thanks for helping her."

"Oh hey there, Spitfire! Are you going for the sugar cookie today or did'ja wanna try one of our huckleberry 'n hay pies?!

"Hey Pinkie, haven't seen you in a while...or any of your pals for that matter." Her thoughts quickly turned to the times she had run into the elements of harmony but at the mention of treats she came back on track. The heat seemed to be messing with her head. "I'll take a couple sugar cookies and some water."

“No, just water, Miss Pie...That mare over there.”, she waved a hoof towards the fatigued Sweet Surprise, "Looks like she's got a case of heatstroke, but thankfully she's looking better already.", she smiled at the brown coated pony as she received a helping hoof from some stallion."And yes, I'm Wind Walker. I'm still thinking of what to get as there's so much to see here, and if I had my way, I'd get everything, but I don't think I have enough bits for everything, and if I did, it just wouldn't be fair for everyone else. So I'll need to think about it for a moment. Maybe see what my friends there are looking to get.",being a little on the excited side, caused the filly to ramble on just a little bit.

Once the mug of water was prepared, the little filly made sure it got to her 'patient' right away. "Thanks Miss Pie!"

Wind Walker quickly hoofed over the mug once Sweet Surprise was helped back up, "You looked like you had a bit too much sun Miss. Hopefully this will make you feel a little better.", her ears perked up as she overheard the little filly refer to Pinky Pie as a 'cuz' or cousin. Was that just the friendly way country ponies like to greet other locals, or were they actually real cousins? Apple? Pie? Guess it would make sense. While Wind had run into the little apple pony once or twice, she knew a few of the girl's friends. along with her actual cousin Babs Seed.  The filly sure looked excited about something, and while she was pretty curious what the little earth pony was up to, Wind had to see Glimmer and Razor!

But where was Glimmer?

For just a moment, the little griffon had vanished, only to be appear, and the pounce! "Yikes!", the little filly yelped as she was overtaken by the fuzzy griffon. "I missed you to. And you Razor.", she gave the older bird a grin, "It hasn't been that long. Just had to do some thing...er...", she really did not want to go into the details. It was all silly drama she did not even want to think about anymore. Adults were so dang weird sometimes! And her sister's coltfriend was as odd as they got. She would rather hang around her friends and eat candy than think of such things.

"Yep. But since I've moved to Ponyville, I only take Mrs Frizzlemane's class once a month now. Which is fine, since I'm up to the advanced stuff by now. She teaches us the new stuff. and we go home to train. I go back a month later and she makes sure I'm doing everything correctly."

The tempting aroma continued to tease the filly's nostrils with hints of future's munchings. "But enough about that, what sort of candy do you guys wanna get?"

(( This thread got very active -- if I missed a character doing something, my apologies! Try to work around it creatively or let me know! ))

Pinkie Pie happily squeezed the griffoness, nuzzling into her soft neck fur. "Glimmmmmmmmer! You cutie patootie! Are you keeping your brother under your claw? You really have to watch him! Heehehe, I'm so glad you came to visit!" The flapping from Glimmer's big wings caused a gust to blow about the bakery, sending a nice flume of powdered sugar into the air from an open bag by the finishing table. It rained down like fine snow. "Hah! It's like, the middle of summer and it's snowing!" Pinkie snorted, sneezing a few white puffs of sugar out of her nose. "We have a saying in this business -- if you aren't covered in white stuff, you're not doing your job right! Ha!"

She gave Glimmer a few more squeezes in her strong earth pony arms, feeling a nudge against her flank. She looked down, relieved to see Apple Bloom reporting, right on time! She was quite a dependable and hard-working filly, she couldn't help but feel joy she had taken time out of her busy farm chores to come help at the bakery. Farm to hoof eating was all the rage these days, and it certainly helped to be friends with Ponyville's hardest working family provider of food in the realm. "Cousin Apple Blooooom! Hey there miss big mare! I have a feeling today could be the day for that cutie mark if we can really knock it out at the bakery!" She gave the young mare a little noogie with her powdered-sugar covered hoof. "Would you please get some fresh fudge for Miss Sweet? Also sugar cookies and water for Miss Spitfire! We'll set up a tasting of our new products in a little bit. Maybe we can sneak a few bites to our friends, too!"

She looked up and waved as Inkbrand entered the shop. "Hi hi! Watch out for the powdered sugar cloud with that black coat of yours, hehe!"

The overzealous pink mare looked down at Sweet Surprise. "Yes, I would definitely try giving Pumpkin some of that melted fudge to get'er off your nose! You can also try tickling her! Oh look, here's some water right now. Thankies Windy!"

Pinkie dodged behind the counter, leaving a wake of powdered sugar, and began to prep all of the new products that needed tasting. She raised her hooves in the air. "Friends! I've got a super special surprise for all of you! Untested bakery products! Remember the last ones we had? Yeah, don't remember the last ones we had. I totally didn't mean to mistake the cayenne pepper for cinnamon. This time I've got a new range of cookies to try! Butterscotch, oat and orchid, for a little flowery note on the back end! Spinach surprise cookies, for the foals that don't wanna eat their greens! Oh yes, and of course carrot kale buttercrunch sandies! Try them all! At once, if you really wanna go for it! My special bakery apprentice Apple Bloom will help you out if you have any questions! Ready, set, go go go go go!"

Apple Bloom was momentarily overwhelmed as she looked around at just how busy it had become so quickly in the middle of the day! Most ponies did their bakery snogging in the morning, when they did their daily rounds before work. 'Course if you were just looking for a tasty treat for one you didn't have to worry about when, just how, and Apple Bloom got that for sure. After school she often snaked her way here, slithering into the story at low energy and in dire need of a direct sugar infusion. Sugarcube Corner could give a little pony enough sugar to survive the strenuous and difficult life that a blank flank had to endure. It was the center of all filly and colt rituals, the sugar addled discussions and games that followed beating all others in sheer fun and lack of control. This place was basically the greatest place ever and Apple Bloom was more than happy to help Pinkie Pie get the bakery in order.

In the middle of a white tornado of flour, Apple Bloom was given her marching orders. Fresh fudge for Mrs. Sweet- got it! Fresh fudge was the best type of fudge Apple Bloom found, better than aged fudge by Celestia's mane length and then some! And then Spitfire needed some water and sugar cookies. Sounds like a winning combination for a winning pony! Why didn't she want some of those high protein, low fat, all healthy looking snacks though? Didn't they have some sort of diet they had to hold themselves too, or was that all silly talk? Applejack didn't need to moderate herself and sh was one of the greatest athletes in the world, no matter what anypony else said. “Aye aye, cap'n! Ah bet bah the end of tha day Ah'll have a cutie mark in...err, being one heck of a baker pony assistant...thing...aye aye!” Apple Bloom shot off a snappy salute before quite literally leaping at the task.

Fudge. Fudge. Fudge. What type of fudge? Apple Bloom preferred some nice and softer type, real fresh like, so she got a small square or two of that and put it on a small tray. Sweet would really like that, wouldn't she? Then she made double sure to go over the sugar cookies and water. Apple Bloom trotted on over to Mrs. Sweet and gave her some nice fudge, hoof picked by Apple Bloom by way of Pinkie's culinary excellence in the kitchen. “Here ya go! Best fudge in town no doubt 'bout that,” Apple Bloom professed, giddily eyeing the fudge as she hoofed it over. She wasn't done though. Sh made a pit stop with Spitfire, giving her the tray with water and sugar cookies. “Howdy Spitfire! Ah reckon these'll be your favorite sugar cookies of all time bah tha time yer through! Heck, y'all could talk 'bout Sugarcube Corner in all sorts of interviews just because you love'm sooo much! Ain't that right, Pinkie?” Apple Bloom leapt about excitedly, her mind swimming with the possibilities of her being being responsible for making Sugarcube Corner the most famous bakery in the world.

Wouldn't that be just be the bee's knees?
As the powdered sugar continued to haze the room, Pinkie ducked behind the counter and started explaining what the plan was for the day. This wasn't going to be just a normal day at Sugarcube Corner, no-siree. This was a taste testing day with the best confectionery mare in all of Equestria tempting you with the delicious delectable from her creative oven! Apple Bloom had come over to help with the taste testing and was more than excited to jump on in, but something Pinkie Pie said gave her pause- was she supposed to actually just be around to answer questions? Might be difficult to answer questions with her face stuffed full of the goodies in front of her, each one more mouth watering than the last. She sidled up to Pinkie Pie, her expression clouded with some worry but still beaming with untold amount of glee. “Ah can eat- err, help test'm out too, right?”

The life of Maud Pie had taken an interesting course since she had set off from the rock farm, hoping to attain her Rocktorate in Rock Science from Rockwington University in Rockwington. her knowledge on the subject was such that there was little need for her to attend classes and most of the course work she was given was breezed through in months, which left her needing only many hours of field study and research. For this she had seen herself travel across Equestria, doing everything from manning a tour of a geological exhibit in Manehattan to exploring unexplored caverns in the frozen northlands beyond the Crystal Empire. To top it all off, after witnessing certain indignities during the Crystal Faire, she had become involved in a certain organization which meant more an unrelated travel, including travel abroad.

Between it all, there had been even fewer opportunities to visit her family than she would have imagined. Occasionally she was able to swing by the rock farm and see her parents as well as Marble and Limestone, but much rarer was it that she had time to visit Ponyville to visit Pinkie. The number of times she had seen her most excitable of sisters in the past year could be counted on four hooves.

Luckily, Maud found herself in Ponyville that time, with enough time to visit for a few hours before she had to continue onto Canterlot for business. It was a surprise visit, unplanned and unexpected, and unfortunately it had to come at time when Pinkie would be working--running the Sugar Cube Corner bakery, but Maud was sure it would be worthwhile all the same.

She strolled through the door at her usual slow pace and found herself somewhat taken aback for how busy it was. Perhaps it really wasn't the best time for a visit... but it was too late. Maud was already there. She started to step past the line and was just in time to see Pinkie stand up and announce that she had untested products she wanted her customers to sample. She was never hesitant to express her honest opinions of things, so perhaps she would be of use for such a task. Maud nodded at the thought of it, knowing she wouldn't dare miss a chance to help her dear sister with her work.

The gray mare finished walking up the counter then and gave a simple, understated nod. "I would be pleased to test everything and give you my thoughts," she said with no introduction or explanation, perfectly impassive, even as in the corner of the mouth there was the slightest smile.

Glimmer gave her friend one last hug before letting her go, "We should race sometime, but right now we need to get eating!" She was hopping up and down now in delight at the thought of all the baked goodies that she would get to try. She always found herself with no short supply of treats when she visited Ponyville, she loved this town.

She turned back to Pinkie saying, "And yep, I've been keeping Razor on a tight leash. Though still no luck on finding him a girlfriend. Honestly he is gonna be old and gray before he ever finds one." She sighed in defeat and shrugged her shoulders then she said, "Oh, oh can I try some of those butterscotch cookies?" The thought of sugary delights so close was starting to make her beak water.

"Hey!" Razor said, giving his sister a glare, "That part of my life is not your concern anyway."

"Shush shush." Glimmer said, waving a paw at him, not really listening. Razor just looked irritated at her.

Razor shook a bit as some flour flittered down on him, due to his sisters wing beats from before. He patted his talon across his head to get it off. He listened at Pinkies announcement, and felt a bit unsure about coming here now knowing she had confused one ingredient for another last time. How did she know she didn't do that again?

Well, it was not like he was gonna be stuffing cupcakes down his throat anyway. He could leave that to his sister; even if the aftermath did fill him with dread.

"Right, well I'm gonna sit over there. You have fun eating...don't do anything crazy." He said to his sister then turned to Windy, "After all this is done, how about another race and show me some of those advanced moves you've learned short stuff. If you win I'll teach you a few tricks of my own."

He then turned and moved to sit down, away a bit from the crowd now forming in the shop. It sure did get busy, and he recognized a pony or two...

There was Inkbrand, who he gave a slight wave to. And then there was a gray colored mare who he thought he recognized....though the memory wasn't really working well. Though she did seem familiar.

The rest were unknown to him, and so he decided to at least keep a distance and keep an eye on them....and make sure none of the girls got to close. He felt a little nervous right now being in a confined place with them.

Though his biggest fear was just what was his sister gonna do after her little fledgling body was powered up by sugar.

'I just know I'm gonna regret taking her here.' He thought.

That had gone from indifferent to awkward several seconds too fast.

'Course, Inkbrand had no qualms about ponies singing his praises - especially when he took time out of his busy day to help somepony out - and it could be expected from the mare who he had, indeed, taken time out to help off the floor. But it was all together a bit odd to be thanked by a stranger, for helping out another stranger. Maybe not if the two mares had known each other, but their exchanged greetings made it obvious that this was their first time meeting - and therefor left Inkbrand rubbing a hoof almost sheepishly against the back of his head, though in all honesty he was just confused.

"Eh, just did what anypony would do," the tattoo-clad stallion finally stated a bit gruffly, eager to move on from the awkward gratitude session and back onto the reason he was visiting a sweets shop in the first place.

…Er, well. Not quite.

There rather ominous trail of white powder the pink mare left behind her was nowhere near as alarming as her sudden spewing of words, almost speaking faster than Inkbrand could listen. He was fairly sure he caught something about a dark coat, spinach cookies - bleh! - and an invitation for all and everypony to taste test untried and untested recipes. It was enough to make Inkbrand's head spin, though even as it did so, a sly thought began crawling through the gutters of his mind.

Hay, when had he ever turned down free food? The pink mare was practically begging them to stuff their faces.

Though, the grey stallion also had the sneaking suspicion that shoving a bunch of foals and mares out of the way to sample the delights would probably reflect poorly on him, which is when a flash of tan caught his attention. Inkbrand let his golden gaze drift over towards Razor, safely removed from the scene in front of the counter, and a griffon he hadn't realized was around through the commotion of the brown mare's - Sweet Surprise's? - collapse.

"Don't mind if I help myself, then," Inkbrand finally spoke up with a lavish grin aimed towards the pink mare and presumed baker, though he honestly couldn't tell if she'd caught his uttered words from his position near the back of the crowd. The grey stallion didn't attempt to fight into the herd right at the moment however - he could already see there were plenty of samples, he'd wait his turn. For now. The tattoo-clad stallion instead contented himself with turning around, eyes lingering somewhat bemusedly on the yellow and red-maned filly for a quick second, before he made his way towards the table.

"Alright there bud?" the grey Earth Pony questioned lazily as he slid into the seat opposite of Razor, without so much as a 'by your leave', "Great place to pick up a pretty filly friend, a sweets shop. Didn't think you'd dive in so quickly," Inkbrand teased, words lacking any malicious intent as he made himself comfortable on the chair.

To be perfectly honest, he wasn't all too sure what to consider the griffon anymore - they weren't friends, not exactly, but they'd had more than enough run-ins to be considered something more than acquaintances. Never mind that most of the run-ins had consisted of some noxious and mind-meddling potion that had turned them into testosterone-filled stallions with something to prove. Either way, it didn't bother Inkbrand enough to question it further, allowing him complete ease in the griffon's presence as if they were the very best of friends.

He just needed to lure a mare over to Razor's side, and his role as complete and utter flank of a friend would be complete.

Oh wow! Lots of great responses to my character. I'll try to respond to all of them, but if I miss one apologies.

Sweet Surprise was ... well... surprised over the number of ponies aiding her less than graceful entrance.

"Nice to meet you too... Sweet Surprise?"

"Definitely!" Sweet said trying not to get too fan girly over seeing a Wonderbolt, "I didn't expect that I'd meet a Wonderbolt here much less get helped by one!"

"You looked like you had a bit too much sun Miss. Hopefully this will make you feel a little better."

"Nah, the sun wasn't the problem, but the heat is! Thanks for the water though. I do feel better now. This must be a hot summer as this was the second time something like this happened. Not here though but at my shop in Canterlot."

"Would you please get some fresh fudge for Miss Sweet?

“Here ya go! Best fudge in town no doubt 'bout that,”

Well this was unexpected as the mare already had her own albeit melted fudge. Now she could try somepony else's fudge, perhaps to compare to hers. Sweet's fudge was her best candy she made, something that made ponies come to her shop. But was it as good as Pinkie Pie's fudge.

"Thanks," the earth mare said to both Pinkie Pie and Apple Bloom before trying a square the way that a wine taster tried wine, "Wow, your fudge is as good as mine, maybe better!"

"Eh, just did what anypony would do," t

"Being modest, huh? Well, what matters is you did a great thing for me helping my up. If you're in Canterlot, look up my shop and I'll give you a candy on the house. Actually anypony that helps me can get a free candy!"

"Friends! I've got a super special surprise for all of you! Untested bakery products!"

It was always a challenge making something new. Sometimes it worked out while other times ponies disliked what was new. But the best thing was to have a test group, and sure enough Sweet Surprise found herself part of such a group.

"Yeah, cinnamon and cayenne doesn't work, neither does making hot candy from cinnamon and hot sauce! I'll definitely try out your treats!"

The din of the bakery crowd went from a light conversation to a full roar, as more customers piled in for the unofficial-now-official bakery test product tasting.

Pinkie Pie nodded, flour escaping from her pink poofs of fluffy pink mane. "Great job Apple Bloom! Okay so, in the side kitchen you'll see a big rack with lots of sample cookies on it! Grab as many sheets as you can carry and bring'um on up to the counter! Also yes! Stuff as many in your face as you can! Try everything! You're a bakery mare today!" She turned her attention back to Glimmer. "Razor? Oh yeah, I'm sure he'll find a specialgriffon! He's got such a charming spirit, even his little sandcat outside is rough like...er...sand!"

The pink mare motioned to Inkbrand, offering a tray of treats. "Hey there palsie! Nice ink! I thought about getting a cupcake on my thigh but like, I already have balloons there! Here, have more! Plenty for everypony!"

Pinkie turned to address a grey mare that approached the counter. Totally caught off guard, Pinkie started to answer he new customer's order, only to find it was her sister! Her jaw slammed into the counter top, causing several test cookies to spin off in random directions. "S-Sis?! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" She dove over the counter, knocking more baked goods everywhere, to embrace her sibling. "I've missed youuuuu! Oh, hold on!" She dashed in back, returning with a "necklace" covered in hard, grey blobs. They looked like rocks. A rock necklace? "These are burned scones! We couldn't sell them, and they looked like rocks, so I made a necklace out of it for you! I know you love candy necklaces but I thought this might change it up!" She smooched Maud's cheek, looping the "rock" necklace around her sister's neck. "Of course I want you to try everything! All the things! You sugar-pony you! Eehehehe! Wow it's such a treat. Oh yes, you know Apple Bloom right? She's my bakery assistant today! Er...you'll see her when she gets back! She's getting more samples for our customers! Also there are our griffonfriends, Razor and Glimmer, and we have Sweet Surprise. Funny you'd find a Sweet Surprise in a bakery, huh? And this charming stallion is Inkbrand! Oh yes, Wind Waker, Spitfire. She's a Wonderbolt, you know!"

Pinkie turned her attention to the side kitchen. "Oh yeah, Apple Bloom, if you can carry it, check the cooler for a big jug of punch! It's my super special secret recipe. You'll know it's the right jug because it's fizzing and probably pouring over!"

“Oh, right.”, the little filly smiled back at Sweet Surprise as she hoofed over the chilly glass of water while not wanting to tell her that it was still the sun that helped make the heat. That would be boring! Nothing like a nice cool glass of water to beat the heat! And what was better than water? Oh yeah! Freshly made sweets! Sweets sure beats the summer heats and was also rather neat..neats.. Once she was sure the older mare was not about to keel over again, Wind Walker quickly made her way towards her two griffon friends.

But something emerged from sweltering outdoors, it was a terrifying ZOMBIE, fresh from the grave! She was obviously here to eat everypony's brains and turn them all into zombie ponies as well! And then the emotionless grey mare spoke. She also wanted to try out Pinky's new candies. Not Pinky's brain. That's good!

She gave Glimmer a short, but sweet hug before turning to the little bird's brother, "That depends on how much candy I have, but if we do race, I promise to go easy on you this time!", she gave the big bird a wink. "Actually, maybe we can get Captain Spitfire to join as well. Wouldn't that be cool?" She could only imagine the two of them trying to outfly the 'bestest' Wonderbolt.

She turned back to Glimmer,"Guess we're all going to be test subject's for Miss Pie's new candy." She would have preferred just having a candy apple or another tasty 'SBLOUNSKCHED' candy bar. But the more she thought about it, the better it sounded. This was a once in a lifetime experience. Be the first to try out Miss Pie's latest creations before anypony else did. Gasp! Wind nearly had another mental 'gasp' as the pink mare refereed to the grey-could-have-been-a-zombie-pony as her 'sister'! How could this be? The two couldn't be even more different!

Before the taste-testing begin, it appeared they would be trying Pinky's 'super special secret recipe' punch. This had to be good! She nodded to her old friend and motioned to get closer to the candy counter.

Sugarcube Corner got busier and busier by the second. If it got any busier they'd probably need to halt actual business and hire some fast working construction ponies to build a larger Sugarcube Corner just to handle this rush! Apple Bloom didn't know how those odler ponies could handle days like this, always waitin' on all sorts of customers. It seemed like it would tucker most ponies right out, making this a filly's game. Apple Bloom had more than enough energy to handle all of this! The only olden ponies who could handle it were Applejack and Pinkie Pie. They had enough energy to give Apple Bloom a run for her bits, but thankfully that didn't need to happen because Apple Bloom was here to be the most efficient and best bakery aid ever.

Pinkie Pie gave her new marching orders and they were the best marching orders this side of...well, the room, really, since the other side probably had nifty things she could probably be ordered to do too. Nopony knew what was going to happen except a lot of good eating and that was reason enough for Apple Bloom to salivate generously. At the end she was told she was a bakery mare- and heck, what a bakery mare she would be if she got a cutie mark in bakery mareing courtesy of following Pinkie's concise orders! She had to go to the side kitchen and get all the nice samples- and maybe take part in the festivities herself, if she was so inclined. Which she was because who could say no to Sugarcube Corner treats? “Aye Aye Pinkie! Ah'll get all of those samples out here in a flash, justcha watch!” Apple Bloom replied before single-leap bounding into the side kitchen in a daze of white powder.

Apple Bloom found herself in the side kitchen, a dizzying array of delectable goodness hanging somewhat precariously in every direction that Apple Bloom could look. It was like all the deliciousness of an amazing bakery condensed into one tiny space. It sure was bigger on the inside- Apple Bloom hadn't thought much of it before but she knew for the future that all she had to do was slink into the side kitchen to find all the real stuff. Surely they would be fine with her doing that on a daily basis, right? Anyway, she looked around and saw the sheets with many new and exciting foods on them. Celestia above, Apple Bloom wanted to just sit down and try them al out but there were so many ponies out there she didn't think she'd have a lick of time to do so. She grabbed one, two...third on her head...fourth on her back...fifth...lower back...six...flank...seven...could she? Apple Bloom was trying to move as slowly as possible so as not to drop it all on the ground. But no- no seventh because just then she heard a call for punch. It was gonna fizz over?

Good. Apple Bloom couldn't see it anyway so she'd have to feel that fizz. She slowly and methodically backed up towards the fridge. She opened the fridge with her tail and started to feel around, grimacing at all the sweetly weird sensations on the ends of her tail. Finally she felt a jug and her tail moved alongside it until she was at the top, where there was a fizz. Well, that had to be it, right? She grabbed it and then kicked the fridge door closed, standing on one hoof. She put the hoof down and then slowly made her way back to Pinkie Pie, six sheets and a jug on her tail as she stood half-cocked on her hind legs in order to balance everything. She was shaking, half because of nervousness, half because she was having some rather intense difficulty not dropping everything.

“Here...ya go...Pinkie!”

Maud continued to smile a subtle smile as her sister reacted with surprise and then hugged her. The smile fell when Pinkie presented her with the necklace. It was a thoughtful gift and she appreciated it deeply, but she couldn't help but feel somewhat bad for not having brought Pinkie something of her own to give. She supposed it was her own fault though; she should have known her sister to know that she would be wholly prepared for any possibility. Of course she would have a gift stashed away just in case.

The kiss at her cheek brought Maud's micro-smile back, subtlety reassuring her that it was fine. She could make up for it by helping Pinkie with her work as best as she was able to. Her eyes glanced at the gift and studied it for the first time. It was a delightful thing. It was very much fascinating how much something which wasn't a rock could be made to look and feel like a rock. That Pinkie could produce such a thing was surely proof of her genius as a baker. Maud wore the necklace with pride. "Thank you," she said.

Hey eyes went to all the ponies and griffons as Pinkie indicated them. She had been attending university in Rockwington, so she was used to seeing griffons. She was used to seeing ponies too, of course. She didn't know what to think of everyone assembled there, but Pinkie's enthusiasm probably meant good things about them. That they were there to support her sister and her place of employ was enough for Maud to want to show them politeness.

"Hi," she said simply while looking at them. "I'm Maud." She then turned back to Pinkie.

Just as she did, the sound of the door to  the back opening was heard and from it emerged a yellow filly. It was Applejack's sister. Maud had seen her once before at the most recent Grand Galloping Gala. She was carrying all sort of things which seemed about prepared to drop.

"Here, let me..." Maud said upon silently striding over toward the filly. She took from her the jug and two of the more precariously balanced trays and with them in tow returned to where Pinkie was.

Glimmer was practically a bundle of excitement at the thought of trying new sweets. But as she watched the little filly carry all the stuff in she went wide eyed.

"Wow, you're really strong. And that bow is adorable." She said, to Applebloom.

But then another shocking revelation, the gray pony and Pinkie were sisters?

Glimmer blinked and looked at Pinkie, happy and hyper and go luck, then to the gray pony, Maud who frankly looked.....well....gray and rock like in composure.. Then to Pinkie, then Maud. Then back to Pinkie, then back to Maud.

She then just looked at the ground as she placed a talon to her head, feeling a slight headache. Trying to figure out how the genetics worked was just too much for her young little mind.

'I'll leave that to daddy.' She thought before turning to Windy.

"Lets eat, and see if we can help. That filly looks like she could use a claw or two." She said before turning back to Applebloom, "Would you like an extra claw to hold some of that?"

-------------------

Razor sat at his table, before he was interrupted by a new comer. He turned and blinked in surprise.

"Inkbrand?" He said surprise, "I never thought I'd see you in a place like this."

He blushed a bit at Inkbrands words of finding a fillyfriend, and looked away, "It's not that. I'm just here with my sister. She always drags me into places that sell sweets."

He pointed to the little bow wearing griffonness fledgling, who was happily conversing and hopping with delight.

He found it a bit odd conversing with Inkbrand like so. Usually they only ever conversed after being drugged by some magical liquid that made them go for each others throats over a mare. In fact, Razor worried that if simply by conversing right here and now, they weren't somehow stirring some psychic energy mixing pot of chaos that was sure to end up with them drugged on some magic potion again.

Long as it wasn't darts again.

"Uh anyway, I didn't think you frequented places like this." He said.

Cupcake on the thigh, hmm? That'd be nice - then a hungry stallion could take a small nibble whenever he was feeling a bit peckish.

…Eh. Again with the violation. What was it about these sugary-sweet mares that made him feel so dirty just by thinking in their general direction?

Perhaps he should have been a bit more surprised - and frankly, concerned - about the fact that the pink Earth Pony somehow knew his name, without him having introduced himself to her or the shop at large…but honestly, Inkbrand wasn't all that put-out. Even putting any ego aside, the grey stallion knew that he stood out in a town like Ponyville - that was just a fact. He wouldn't have been all that surprised if most ponies in town knew his name, if only by connecting rumors and description with a name.

Nopony accessorized quite like him, after all.

Still, it was always a pleasant surprise to meet a mare who didn't immediately accuse him of being a leech of a playcolt, something Inkbrand could appreciate as he sent a lascivious wink in the pink mare's general direction, before refocusing back on the griffon in front of him.

Who was, predictably, blushing.

"Oh, you know," the grey Earth Pony stated helpfully, inspecting the end of one hoof with an intensity too meticulous to be casual, "even a stallion like me gets a hankering for something sweet, from time to time." Another cursory inspection of the invisible speck of dust on his hoof, before Inkbrand dragged lazy golden eyes onto the griffon in full, lips curving upwards into a sly smile. "And I'll just bet she does, eh? She seems to think you need to get out and find something sweet for your own."

Which, had also been something he'd found rather peculiar about the pair. As far as Inkbrand himself could tell, Razor's littler sister - Glimmer, was it? - was Taurtarus-bent on finding her brother a fillyfriend. Possessed enough, even, to attack devilishly roughish yet entirely innocent stallions with love-filled darts in order to introduce said brother to a passionate paramour. While a rather sore point - flank, more accurately - at the time, in retrospect Inkbrand couldn't help but find their relationship amusing. Curious, even. How far would Glimmer go to achiever her apparently life-long goal?

As he conversed and chatted, Inkbrand kept an eye on the goodies available at the counter. The bakery owner had been very forthcoming in said goodies, all but pushing the plates onto him, and the grey stallion would take up underwater basket weaving before passing over free food. There was plenty to go around, but still. Didn't hurt none to keep an eye out.

And that thought abruptly reminded Inkbrand of another spectacle he'd been privy to not that long ago, causing his ears to swivel upwards like a dog on the scent. "Though that might not be necessary anymore, hmm?" the tattoo-clad stallion commented carelessly. "How're things with that REA mare of yours? 'Ya know, from the rave? Tell me you got some contact info, at least." Bucking fantastic. How Razor had managed to stay sane throughout his and Clandestine's weird, half-flanked, exploratory flirtations thing had been a complete mystery to Inkbrand. Not to mention he'd been very much occupied with an equally receptive black griffon.

But he could admit he was curious. Clandestine wasn't a pony Inkbrand would touch with a ten-foot pole, but how'd Razor handled her? Like a bucking champ, apparently.

The excitement was peaked at Sugarcube Corner to the point that Sweet forgot all about her less than graceful entrance. Despite the number of ponies and griffons in such a small space, she didn't feel like she'd pass out again any time soon. Now the earth pony was interested in trying out the treats and meeting all those there.

"Funny you'd find a Sweet Surprise in a bakery, huh?

"Even funnier when ponies find out I own a candy shop," she replied with a chuckle, "I think my parents though named me Sweet because I was sweet. Not like a candy though. Imagine if there was a real pony made out of candy. Of course that pony would have to avoid this heat!"

"Hi," she said simply while looking at them. "I'm Maud."

"Hi there! So, you're Pinkie's sister huh? Nice necklace! Reminds me of the rock candy I make. Do you have a favorite rock?"

"Oh, you know," the grey Earth Pony stated helpfully, inspecting the end of one hoof with an intensity too meticulous to be casual, "even a stallion like me gets a hankering for something sweet, from time to time."

Sweet could see how casual Inkbrand acted when talking to her, pretending to be casual. He seemed though to be just playing hard to get.

"Alright, well the invitation is open. All you have to do is stop by. You can't miss it as it looks like a house made of candy! It's a really neat design. Speaking of design, did you tattoo yourself? Isn't that kind of hard when you need to use mirrors and things to see what you're doing?"

She knew only little about tattooing but she could guess that a pony would need help from something to aid them inking themselves.

Hope I got it right that Inkbrand was talking to Sweet Surprise
