Chipper Demise (Ready)

Blueblood

Recommended Posts

Roleplay Type: World of Equestria

Name: Chipper Demise

Sex: Male

Age: Stallion

Species:  Unicorn

Eye color: Hot Pink, though you generally never see the irises, as his eyes are almost always closed, either in a kind of sleepy smile, or a squint to see properly.

Coat: A Mottled dark blue with black splotches

Mane/Tail:  His mane and tail are both white, cut raggedly, as it is hard to find a barber in the Southern Wilds!  His mane in particular might be described as a bird's nest... partly because birds have indeed nested in it on at least one occasion.

Physique:  Thin, with a medium stature leaning towards the short

Residence:  Whitescar's Southern Wilds

Occupation:  Dark Magician/Necromancer

Cutie Mark:  The silhouette of a raven perched atop a pony's skull.  Chipper got this mark while being raised by his master in the dark and twisted lands of the southern wilds.  Many magicians flocked to the place to practice their dark arts free from interference, and among the most popular of these arts was necromancy.  Across the whole landscape, the bodies of the dead were raised in armies by necromancers in an attempt to crush their rivals.

While observing this necromantic arms race, Chipper noticed a flock of birds feasting on the desiccated remains of a de-animated corpse.  Suddenly having an idea on how he could show off to his notoriously hard-to-please master, he dedicated himself to channeling, communicating with, and controlling the carrion crows around the stronghold.  Soon, he was able to deploy his squadron of battle-crows, which swarmed and pecked apart a zombie warrior.  After demonstrating this feat, the young colt felt a flash and tingle that signaled the arrival of his cutie mark, and a new player in the games of magical power...

Unique Traits:  For a pony that is often concerned with things that are, or soon will be dead, Chipper Demise also has a way with living plants and animals.  He's developed a few magical techniques for simple communication, and can charm them to cease from hurting him, and even win them to his side.  And considering the sort of beasts that call the Southern Wilds their home, that's saying something.

Of course, he also has a suite of dark magic abilities, though he's far from the strongest among his kind.  He couldn't raise a fully-grown and fully-dead caribou warrior, for example, but he could execute a few dark pacts to bring him back from the brink, as necromancy is oddly allied to healing magic, in a way.  Chipper has some control over the acceleration or retardation of decay, can cast a few illusion and fear spells, as well as pure destructive bolts.  Using magic makes him quite hungry afterwards, though.

History:  In a happier, fairer world, Chipper Demise would have been born to a loving, normal family in Equestria, growing up to pursue a happy and fulfilling career in Veterinary medicine.  But no being ever raised on the harsh continent of Whitescar ever expects life to give them so much.

Instead, Chipper was born to a pair of necromancers, exiled unicorns pursuing a dream of power beyond the rights of mortals.  Not exactly what one would expect to be parenting prospects, but after all, ponies were still ponies, and not insensitive to charms, and perhaps to love.  That's not to say that they were any good at it.  Chip would have to learn pretty early on to take care of himself, because between dealing with incursions of undead armies into their keep, and sending out incursions of their own in revenge, they had little time to spare to take care of a young foal.

He himself wasn't all that resentful of it.  After all, without any other frame of reference, Chipper Demise felt his life was more or less normal.  And when his parents apprenticed him early to a dark Wizard who did have time to spare, Chip went along cheerfully enough.  After all, he was going to learn how to do the really cool things his parents did!

Unfortunately, the world seemed to have it out for Chipper and his optimism.  His parents were far from ideal, but they probably loved him in their way.  Chip's new master, on the other hand, thought of him only as another asset to his bid for absolute power in the region, and therefore his protege's unique talents were treated with irritated indifference, while the more traditional aspects of dark magic were instilled with harsh discipline.

The breaking point as Chipper neared adulthood.  Bereft of equine friends and companionship, he'd taken to taming and befriending the beasts of the field, including a Dire-wolf who acted like a surrogate mother to him, or at least a very affectionate aunt.  When his master caught Chipper away from his studies, playing with his wildlands friends, he stormed in with a rage and savagely attacked every single one of them in front of Chipper.

That was a mistake.  A BIG mistake.  In fact, the only way in which his master at all got what he wanted was that Chip did indeed apply himself assiduously to his studies for the next few weeks.  But then came one night, when all his preparations were complete...

The flashed of purple fire and flares of magic were seen from the next stronghold over.  Investigation revealed only an abandoned, ruined keep, where crows nested in the burnt-out remains of the wizard's stronghold.  What became of the wizard, only Chipper and carrion crows know...

He began to wander, shortly after that.  He became an odd figure, spoken of in confused whispers by those who lived in the Southern Wilds, or braved its depths for their will tests.  A happy, smiling, even singing young pony, surrounded by the beasts and birds for all the world like a fairy princess.  But... the fairy tales he is a part of are not the nice ones...

Character Personality:  Chipper Demise is a perennially optimistic fellow, always willing to put a cheerful spin on zombies, wastelands, and possible death.  As these things were more or less his childhood toys, it is little wonder that he has a rather warped view of them.  Indeed, his worldview is warped in general, as he was given absolutely no guidance in basic right and wrong.  He might kill a pony to cure their headache, or at least amputate a cut hoof, entirely convinced that he was doing a good deed.

For all that, he's not a hard pony to befriend, especially if you like animals.  Play nice with his wild friends, and he'll likely as not stick by your side and send them to ravage all undead armies in front of you.  Lay a hostile hoof upon them, however... and you shall never be heard of again.

Character Summary:  A young, animal-loving necromancer with a cheerful outlook on life, but a very skewed sense of morality.

Here comes RPH ready to smash this inappropriate necromancer OC to oblivion! :papyrus:

Nah, but given that this is a dark character from a dark place, you have to be extra careful that you don't cross beyond PG-13 boundaries. You can imply some of the more grisly things that are depicted in this app, but we ask that you remove all overt references to gore and killing. It's all a careful balance act, but you've been around for years now, so I'm confident you'll figure things out. ^_^
