Coat: Mostly white with black stripes. The placement on her face gives the impression she is wearing a white skull mask that doesn't quite cover all the black. Other than that, there is nothing all too special about her stripes. 

Mane/Tail: Both her mane and tail are styled into long dreadlocks that are mostly grey in color with some red ones here or there. Her mane is tied back somewhat, keeping all but one red one out of her face, though still letting them fall naturally behind her head. 

Physique: Her body is nothing special really, at first glance nothing one wouldn't expect from regular exercise, though a more trained gaze might recognize her body as one trained for agility and fighting. She is slightly smaller than average in height. 

Residence: A house in Hollow Shades which also doubles as her shop. 

Occupation: Potion maker. Also a member of the Oculus portion of the Historian's Guild. 

Cutie Mark: A tribalistic depiction of an eye made of white lines that almost seems to meld in with her surrounding stripes. To her, this represents her ability to see through illusions and her constant quest to find the truth of things. 

 

The day she got her mark was really no different than any other to start with. Over the course of the day though, she would hear things that nobody else would. It was strange, pushing her to ask a local witch doctor what was going on. What she was told was that she was being hounded by spirits playing tricks on her, ones that could not be seen but still let themselves be heard. Seeking help for the problem, she got the witch doctor to work with the potion maker Zola was learning her trade from and the three of them brewed something that was supposed to help her with the spirits. The effects left her blind to the real world, though now she could see through the illusion hiding another young zebra nearby. Not trusting herself to move in her state, she pointed out the culprit and the two mares got him to leave. The effects eventually faded, leaving her eyes seeing normally as her mark appeared. The potion was not as temporary as they had believed though. 

Unique Traits: If she concentrates and closes her eyes for a few seconds, she will enter what she can only describe as a spirit world of sorts. This blinds her to the world around her, though it allows her to see magic in use around her and also allows her to see through illusions. She is completely motionless during this time, having to focus entirely on her vision until she opens her eyes again. 

 

After her face markings were rearranged, she took to carrying a scythe on her missions as well as a black cloak, which earned her her codename. 

 

She also utilizes various concoctions on her missions, such as acids to eat through locks too hard to pick or smoke bombs to help her escape. 

 

History: Zola was born in the town of Taraju, and spent most of her childhood there or the surrounding area. Her father was one of the zebras to help with tourists that came to town, while her mother made potions for residents and visitors alike. Life was peaceful for her, and she began to learn under her mother at first, learning to brew potions. After she really took a liking to it, her parents decided to have her learn under the best potion maker in town, and it was under this teacher that she flourished and eventually earned her mark. After she discovered she could still access the special state that afforded her the special vision, she decided to cultivate it, practicing over the years until it stopped being such a drain on her and she could activate it fairly easily. 

 

Once she had completed her apprenticeship and graduated to a full-fledged potion maker, she decided to set off on her own and left her village behind her. She made her way to Equestria, wandering from town to town until she found Hollow Shades and its interesting history. She decided to settle down there, selling potions to any who needed them just like her mother. 

 

She had found the guild while visiting Canterlot before settling down, joining without hesitation in her pursuit of knowledge. It wasn't until after an incident where she found an actual spirit in her little vision state that she joined the more secretive part of the guild. The spirit had taken advantage of her vulnerable state, messing with her by changing her markings into the state they are in now.

 

Character Personality: Zola is a very friendly mare, thoroughly enjoying meeting and conversing with all manner of people. Her rhyming speech pattern may make it hard for her to get her point across at times, but she does not let that stop her in the slightest. She takes her job very seriously, be it brewing a potion or uncovering some secret for the guild, completing each task to the best of her ability. She prefers to take her time with most things, to make sure they become the best they can be. 

 

Character Summary: A friendly, if strange zebra that is very dedicated to both her jobs. Despite the morbid appearance of her face, she would prefer to not fight if it came down to it.
