Stage Two: Bubbling Brook! Time to Go Bold!

Recommended Posts

And with a mighty snap of Elden Wood the bridge broke from its moorings, swamped by the bubbling brook and carried away on its waters!

It means nopony  that has yet to cross the bridge may cross it to gain points, but there is still time to get to the other side of the riverbank before points are lost!

Pinkie bounded up ahead, the bridge growing smaller to view behind her. She was determined to find the end to this storm. It was totally ruining her party vibe, not that she would tell anypony that!

"Hmm hmm hmm!" She hummed as she went, the gale roaring around her. She glanced back after a moment and...

"Oh Celestia!" She shouted as she saw Apple Bloom get swept of the bridge.

Pinkie had bounded back in a trice and was prepared to step back onto the bridge to haul the filly back up. However, Abby was strong and she managed to pull herself up and soon her and little Zap were safe on the far side!

"Wow! That was a close one you guys!" She grinned. "This is some Running of the Leaves huh?"

She wrapped a protective foreleg around Abby and Zap for just a moment. She couldn't help it! The pink really hoped the rest of the course wouldn't be as dangerous as this leg had been!

Just as she was thinking that, she heard a huge cracking sound. Pinkie turned around just in time to see the whole bridge get swept away by the raging waters!

"Uhhhh, maaaaaaybe we should try to catch up with the others." She suggested, trying to keep what she had just seen as light as she could.   "Tempest and Strong Copper busted tail outta here a little bit ago! Those two are so so so serious! Ha! Either way, let's get moving, this storm is no bueno!"

Pinkie made her way back up the trail. She should probably try to stick close by these two. They were pretty grown up now but hay filly, even grown ups needed help from time to time!

Berry Punch

Well, wasn't this turning out to be one of the most fun Running of the Leaves in years!  So full of drama, excitement, and... *ahem* great scenery!  She was rather relieved to see most ponies, especially the little ones, emerge safely on the other side of the bridge (seriously, why didn't they just put up something in steel and concrete rather than put up a rickety wooden structure every year after the first one breaks?  Something to discuss with the mayor-elect ASAP).

After having helped Midnight up, they were once again paid a visit by the exotic Wingaporean.  Though, Berry had to look askance at her latest attempt to flirt.  'Giver her the sniffles?'  Since when was that an attractive metaphor?  Must be some cultural thing lost in translation.  "Oh, we ain't letting you get away that easy!"  She shot back, her enthusaism undimmed by her bafflement.  Leading the pack of the two handsome stallions, she scrambled to catch up to the unicorn mare, providing both Midnight and Tiger eager incentive to keep pace, or at least stay within sight range.

"Name's Berry Punch."  She would say, once she had nearly caught up, which wouldn't be until the forked paths began to join again.

Well then, today was turning out better than expected. Tiger had started out hoping to catch the eye of some pretty mare in the stands, or one of the competitors, and getting some after-race fun with them. Now though, it seemed he was going to get that with Berry and much more. He was probably going to have to share with Midnight and Jade, judging by how things were going. Midnight he wouldn’t mind, the bat was pretty good-looking and seemed like a nice pony so far, but Jade, something about her still rubbed him the wrong way. It was like there was a predator just out of sight, but you could tell they were there somewhere there just waiting to pounce. Part of him hoped he was just imagining things, but he couldn’t shake it.

As the rest of his little group took off after Jade, he put on the gas as well. He picked up speed, though he was still pretty far from his limit, and caught up to Berry right before she introduced herself to Jade.

“Probably heard me before, but name’s Tiger Blood.” He said next, offering Jade a wink as well.

Apple Bloom shook her head a few times, trying to clear it of any residual fog and water residue. She could already feel the massive headache coming on, helped in no small part by a sense of embarrassment that was without due cause. Why should she feel bad about falling? It was treacherous. Well, Zap Apple had done it and he was just a colt. A young mare shouldn't have a problem with it. Except they should, anypony should! It was a dangerous weather condition. Uggh. Why couldn't she have just gotten out of here safe and sound and not having acted like a fool? A hug from Pinkie Pie didn't hurt, especially since they didn't seem to lose themselves any speed as she did so. Was everpony sure she wasn't a unicorn? Because she sure was magical!

Once free of her pink friend, possibly relative and honorary one for sure, she took a deep breath. She knew the course well enough and knew that there would be time to spare. There was some distance growing as the hyper competitive frontrunners gained their distance for now, but the race was young. She felt good, aside from the headache and how there were strange duplicates of some creatures and trees and the ground seemed all too close, and as a result she felt good about this day. She would try and stick around Zap but if this had showed her anything it was that Zap Apple wasn't about to make this boring.

She trotted alongside him with a wide smile, offering head nods of thankfulness to those who had helped him as the Apples galloped together forward, unto the dawn and the ending of this leg of the race! "Ready have ta some fun, ponyevery!?" She asked and yelled, half out of cockiness and half because she couldn't quite remember if she had asked it before. Then she realized what she said and looked down. "Uhh...Ah meant...ready ta...have some fun, everypony?!" She tried again, less sure, more embarrassed, but still just as excited. After all, she as racing with family. What could be more fun than that?
