Spring Rain

i6D8xOo.png?1

It was a day off from work, and Spring was eager to spend it outside. It felt great to feel the sun warm her body and see the growth of plants around her. It was getting close to harvest time. Everywhere that she could see there were fresh herbs to be picked, trees heavy with fruit, and more vegetables than one could shake a stick at. Someone had even rather humorously grabbed a giant pumpkin, hollowed it out, and filled it with apples.

The pony left the town and trotted down past the farms occasionally pausing to fully relish in how great the weather was. It was enough to really put an extra bounce in her trot. It was a good time, if also very dangerous, to see what the Everfree Forest might have to offer. She would have to be careful not to go too far of course. She didn't want to get into trouble by disturbing the dangerous wild creatures that lived there.

  • Blacksheep changed the title to A Chemical Reaction OPEN

As it turned out, something, or somepony, may have already done that. Just as she neared the edge of the treeline, she'd feel an odd static buildup on her coat-

Crack!

- and suddenly, the crackle of distant thunder could be heard! Yet there wasn't a cloud in the sky... Not too long after, a steady blue glow rose above the treeline, but it wasn't remotely close to where she was. The staticky feeling dissipated over the next few moments, but in its place there was a peculiar charge to the air, as if it could happen again at any moment.

Spring Rain

The sturdy little earth pony tensed at the feel in the air. That wasn't quite right. It was like a charge. For a moment she thought she could almost taste it. It wasn't pleasant and made her snort stamping her feet. She did not like this. The loud crack of thunder startled her badly causing her to rear up and run back towards Ponyville. She had been struck! The fact nothing had touched her only sank in moments later, along with the odd clearness of the sky following the thunder. No storm? This had to be Everfree nonsense! This was certainly nothing any proper weather would do!

She glanced behind her and saw a blue glow coming from the forest. It was an attack! Something bad had happened! Something unnatural would come out from it! She had to tell someone. Anyone. Spring desperately changed direction looking for any pony that she could speak to and inform about the strangeness coming from the forest. The sooner ponies knew about it the sooner things could be fixed!

Kojo had been taking a nice walk along the forest’s edge, partly to look for more potion ingredients and partly just to enjoy nature, when he heard the thunder. He looked towards the sound, waiting to see if there were any flashes of additional lightning bolts. It was weird that there wasn’t even a cloud in the sky, that he could see, but he had heard about unicorns summoning electricity, maybe it was one of them. The glow that emerged was strange, but he wasn’t exactly a magic expert, maybe that was still a unicorn doing magic.

“Huh, mighty strange, that.” He said to himself, the small dragon shrugging before continuing the walk. Eventually, he came upon a mare that looked like she was freaking out.

“Howdy there, what seems to be the trouble?” He called out, approaching her with a friendly smile.

  • 5 months later...

Scatting a random tune while listening to some dubstep on his headphones, the strange-looking Changeling was headbanging when he heard the crack of thunder.

Taking them off, he looked in curiosity at the Forest, then to the duo who was standing in front of it.

Quickly trotting towards them, he made sure that they would notice him sooner rather than later.

"Hello there! Does anypony know what just happened?"
