This was it.

After a full year of waiting, anticipation, pregnancy cravings, morning sickness, hopes, and dreams, the time had finally come.  Sky Sailing was sitting right by his fiancee's side in the Los Pegasus Hospital, awaiting the birth of their first foal!  He felt they were as ready as they could ever be.  The name was agreed on, the crib built, the flat absolutely stuffed with all the baby equipment that their friends and family could supply, and waiting in the wings were two pairs of prospective grandparents, almost as eager as Sky and Windy themselves!

Both their parents were in the hall outside, though; only Sky and the midwife was with Windy at the moment.  "I'll be right here through the whole thing, don't worry."  He gave her hoof a comforting caress, holding it ready for Wind Dancer to squeeze if need be.

~~~Wind Dancer~~~
This was a moment that Wind Dancer had been both looking forward to, and dreading the past couple months. Right before breakfast this morning, Wind Dancer felt her water break and that only meant one thing. Little Glimmer was on their way. Wind Dancer was very much looking forward to being a mother, and over the last couple of months she and Sky had gotten more than enough diapers, bottles, and other various foal items for a newborn. They were prepared in every possible facet. Well, except for one.
Wind Dancer had heard from several friends that were mother's that while there was nothing more joyful than foal birth, there was also nothing more painful. And she could believe it. She felt Sky's hoof on hers and she smiled at his words. She was going to reply when she felt the first major contraction and winced as she felt the foal start to move. It was at that moment Sky found out just how tight get group could get.
~~Sky Sailing~~
Sky knew as well as anypony that his mate would likely be in pain, and in need of personal support.  He was ready to provide, hoof and wings at the ready, to be extended as much to her as hygeine would allow.  And hey, the bone-crushing grip on his hoof also meant that he could provide empathy as well!  That was a nice reflection.  Unfortunately, it did mean that the first scream that was heard from outside the birthing room didn't come from Windy...
~~Scarlett and Nor'Easter~~
"Oh dear..."  A matronly pegasus winced at the noise.  "Sky was always so sensitive... I do hope he knows not to take anything Wind Dancer says in the heat of the moment too seriously."
"Oh, I don't think Windy's the sort of mare that would curse her mate out.  She's a sweet filly."  He husband replied, offhandedly casual, even as his ears flattened against his head.
"You didn't think I was either, and some of those things I shouted I regret to this day."
~~~Water Wing~~~Morning Dew~~~

This was the moment that just about ever set of parents in Equestria had been waiting for almost their entire lives. Their first grandchild! Hearth's Warming miracles were always recounted during the tradition of how somepony's lives had taken a momentous turn for the better, and right now that miracle was in a room that they weren't alowed into at the moment. The two pegasus parents were sitting out in the waiting room with their soon-to-be in laws. They were thankful that they two families got along so well, and why wouldn't they!? They had been neighbors since forever when they were in Cloudsdale! It was literally as Scarlet had said. They both had gone hundreds of miles away, just to fall in love with the colt/filly next door. She couldn't help but giggle a bit when she heard Scarlett say that she hoped Sky didn't take too much of what Windy might say to heart in the heat of the moment. "You and me both! I am pretty sure that the doctors in the hospital at Cloudsdale are happy that Windy was my only one cause I'm pretty sure I gave a few of them some really stern kicks... I hope Windy doesn't take after me too much like that," Morning said.

"It didn't help that Windy was a feisty one right from the get go. Something that it seems her little one has too if what she says is anything to go by," Water Wing added before the actual screaming started. He was a bit surprised that the first scream wasn't Windy's. "Welp, looks like she does take after you dear, but I think she missed the doctor," Water chucked before he started hearing the screams and cries of his daughter. Being a stallion himself, he really had no comprehension of what she was going through right now. The only thing they could do was wait.

~~Scarlett and Nor'Easter~~

It was of some comfort to know that each family had experience with what was happening now, in their own way.  From generation to generation, each pair of ponies had to face the part they would play in the miracle of life, and all things considered, Scarlett and Nor'Easter felt they had prepared Sky Sailing as best they could.  Their confidence extended the same trust to Morning and Water in raising Wind Dancer, not always a given for in-laws.

That didn't make listening to the screams of pain any easier, and both of them soon drew close, Scarlett tucking herself under Nor'Easter's wing... until the cries of the pair were joined by a third.  "Is that her?  She's here!"  And with a pomf of a wing, and a clippy-clop of hooves, the new grandmother was prancing to the delivery room, and Celestia help any nurse in her way!

~~~Morning Dew~~~Water Wing~~~Wind Dancer~~~
Scarlette and Nor'easter weren't the only ones that were restless while they were listening to the screams coming from the other room. Having gone through this before, they both understood what Wind Dancer was going through. It was going to be the happiest, yet most excruciating moments of her lift, and after what seemed like an eternity, the pair of screams in the room was joined by the wailing of a third. Scarlet was the first to pick up on it, and reacted in kind, bolting towards the door and Celestia have mercy on anypony that got in Scarlet's way, or her own for that matter as she followed behind the mother of her future son-in-law.
Water was right behind the two of them as they came into the room to see Wind Dancer laying in the bed, a small pool of red by her backside from the procedure, but the most important thing in the room, was the wailing foal. A filly that was a bright pink with little tufts of a lilac mane and tail was being wrapped up and soon she was nestled within the arms of Wind Dancer, who was wearing a smile larger than what could seem possible.
"Mom... Dad," Wind Dancer started, tears of happiness in her eyes. "Meet your new granddaughter," she said, clutching her as close to her as possible. "The most precious thing in the world... Our little Glimmer Skies..." she said, wrapping her wing around Sky while she was holding their little one.
At this moment, the pain in Sky's wrist meant nothing.  He, like Wind Dancer, was staring at the best thing he had ever seen.  A little filly, preciously small and beautiful, Glimmer Skies.  Wings intertwined with those of his mate, he was vaguely aware of the bursting in of the door and the crowding around of the bed by a full set of grandparents, each of whom were eager for their turn to hold her.
But that would have to wait, the doctor was waving them back, gesturing for the mare to be given space to breathe, and the baby time to nurse.  Once the little one was measured, weighed, full, and sleepy, each of them would get their chance to hold the pink and lilac bundle of wonder.
"Are you quite alright?  No troubles?"  Scarlett asked, smiling but a little anxious, as all caring mares are.
"And how about you, Sky?  You seem near to fainting!"  His father joined in
"I think... both of us could use something to eat."  He gave a weak smile.  "Labor took a bit of time."
~~~Wind Dancer~~~Morning Dew~~~Water Wing~~~

Wind Dancer smiled back to Scarlett. "I wouldn't be lying if I said that during the moment, that wasn't the most painful thing I had ever felt. I still don't undertand how something that big comes out of a hole that small. But this..." Wind Dancer said, looking down to where Glimmer was, gently holding her. "This is entirely worth everything and more. I can't wait to do it again when the time comes," she said with a smile. She turned to her parents who were more or less just staring in both shock and joy at their grandfoal.

"Windy... she's absolutely beautiful! Just like the beautiful pony that is her mother," she said, turning to Sky after mentioning that they could use something to eat. "Oh of course! both of you are probably starving after that ordeal. I know that after I gave birth to Windy, I ate three whole pizzas! Your father was lucky to get what... three slices?"

Water Wing would just laugh. "I think I eventually just ended up with a salad. What are the two new parents craving right now? I'm sure that we can figure something out other than hospital food."

"Actually the food here isn't bad. It's actually fairly decent. Well prepared, seasoned and perfectly healthy. I mean it should be as much as I donate to this place yearly," Wind Dancer stated. Normally she wasn't one to pull the donation clause. She was far from the only pony that would donate to the hospital, but she doubted others donated as much as she did. In truth, she wasn't even trying to pull anything there either, more just stating a fact. They should be able to afford decent food for the patients, granted she knew that some foods were required to be a certain way for some patients. "Buuut... since you asked, A couple giant bowls of noodles from that Neighponese place in Icy's casino would be amazing if I'm allowed to have them?" she said looking to the doctors for comformation. The two doctors would nod. "Actually better make that three bowls so that Sky can actually have one," she giggled.

"Like mother like daughter," Water laughed.

Scarlett tittered.  "Oh, that takes me back.  The hospital only allowed deliveries to mothers who just gave birth, so I asked for one of those party submarine sandwhiches.  I almost finished off the whole thing!"  She looked down at herself, shaking her head at the memory.  "Didn't make getting rid of the baby-weight any faster, though I suppose you won't have much trouble with that, once you get back in shape for your work?"

"No need to rush."  Sky gently interposed, brushing the little mane of his daughter as she nursed.  "I can support us for as long as we need."  Not to mention Windy's own savings, but every stallion liked to think of himself as a provider under the circumstances.

Once Glimmer was finished eating, and had drifted off, the doctor and nurse gently took the little filly to weigh and measure her.  It didn't take long to give a clean bill of health, at which point the hungry grandmotherly hooves were satiated as Scarlett held and cooed softly, like a dove, over the tiny pony.
